“3 good years with User Testing”

J G.
2/15/24

I have been very impressed with User Testing during the 3 years I have worked with them. The projects I've worked on have been very satisfying and fulfilling, and payment arrived exactly 7 days after the task was completed - just as promised. I have only had a couple of tasks in which the system let me down, and I have always been paid (at least partially) for my trouble. Recently, the wait time for payment has been changed to 14 days after task completion, but it was clearly communicated and seems to be working. My only real issue is with the survys that I can't get rid of, which appear on my list again as soon as I delete them. Also, a few that are completely irrelevant to me, but do not provide a 'non applicable' option. Very small issues compared to how much I enjoy working with User Testing.

“Poor communication/contact and impulse termination”

Lisa P.

I had retained a very high rating (five stars) over the course of my time there, yet they dismissed me when the storm Debby knocked out total services in my area and I was unable to attend a session. I relayed this message, but they still deactivated my account(with$511 pending payout) I have ALL of the correspondence sent to them with no response. Additionally,, the customer they claimed gave me a low rating actually reached out to me for another session with them and couldn't t understand about the accusations of the low rating. Things started out well, but went downhill quickly. I am definitely warning others on working with this company

It's been 4 days. A couple of screener questions, no tests so far.
The only way to know if there are any available tests is constantly going to the site to check and answer some filters if available.

I wanted to make at least $40 or $50 per month, which seems hard to achieve so far.
At this moment it feels like a waste of time, I could give it a try for 7 more days or so, I'll update if my review changes.

And last but not least, I'd like to know why their app is not on Play Store, is that Google does not approve it?

I used User Testing for about 18 months and I used to make a regular £20-30 a week from them, tests were interesting and insightful, some were short and some involved a one on one interview which were higher paying. My rating on the site was 4.5 out of 5 after doing 301 tests and earning £3000, so all was good until at the end of December I stopped receiving any invites. I got in touch with User Testing but they sent me an automated response which did not answer any of my questions. I tried again and received the same response. In the end I gave up and cancelled my account as from looking at other reviews the same thing seems to happen to lots of people using the site. Its a shame they cannot give you a proper response to why they have stopped sending you tests.

I am alway wondering if a website is real and if they will pay for you doing questionnaire, in person surveys, online surveys, etc. Well User Testing is real and fun to do. Amazing all their clients that use the site and the questions we get ask to give our input into. I like the fact they are listening because I have opinions and always wondered how to be an influencer. Where here you go and you get paid. I would much rather do this than uber, instacart, etc.

I joined about a month ago and I have been successful in using the pc based testing. I have not tried the mobile testing yet. Does anyone have feedback on this type of testing?
It is not a plan for making a lot of $, but consider it extra income for those that are looking to boost the bank account a little. I enjoy the experience and learn a lot as I go through the tests.

After installing their app... a few hours later I got a sudden message blinking on my phone that I won an Iphone 7 whatever but then I read the fine print it said if I agree I will be charged a dollar a day forever unless I text stop to whatever number... I never get stuff like that on my phone only after I installed their app... shady business if I may say so

As far as I can tell, all they do is put out fake Screeners to get you to answer survey questions. I've gone through A LOT of Screeners and never qualify. They pop up more frequently than I believe they have people paying them to do tests.
There are sites similar to this that pay you a few pennies for filling out surveys. This company just tricks you into doing it for free.

UserTesting is the most pathetic application and a way to waste your time. I would not encourage anyone to work with UserTesting. SCAM alert. They are big time scammers and just collecting information and marking all the tests and surveys not for you, once you have answered 3-4 questions.

I just started one week ago. First ten dollars was great, and a five star rating! But then I did another test and I got one test that was just docked one star, and another that I answered all questions and reviewed it well, as I tend to try my best and I got zero stars. So three tests altogether. I thought the lowest was one star, but i guess not. There is no way to dispute the grading. And as a result of my new average i have receive no tests in five days. They should NOT have the clients reviewing the workers, there should be a second grader. The client can rate, but so should user testing. This tells me they don't stand by their employees... the testers themselves. And i guess they don't need to. They have an unlimited supply of people looking to make a fast buck. And i tell ya its fast, but don't count on earning any more that 30$. I wish i could say it was better, but its not. I am very disappointed. My average is 3.5 and i have little hope to receive any more tests. :(

Do not waste your time and efforts with this company. I joined in October trying to make a little extra money and never received a test as of yet. I signed up for UserTesting and passed their test in order to receive paid work. I did not make any money because of this obvious scam website. Remember, they collect your information and who know what they do with it.

I don't normally write reviews, but this was very frustrating experience, from technical issues to customer service problems.

Technical - I had to record the same video of me talking for five minutes - three times because they had many technical issues.

Customer service - after writing a nice email asking to solve this problem, I've got a response after 3 days saying "for tester assistance, go to *link*" (as if the lady couldn't pass the request to someone else herself). Anyway, after going to the link and writing basically the same thing, after 2 more days I got another response where a guy answered something completely different. It was obvious that he didn't even care to read the whole email I sent (why would he care, we're "only users".).

Horrible horrible horrible

The first time I saw the site it seemed like it had a lot of opportunity--there was an huge list of projects. Don't know if they are overexposed, they have signed up too many testers but the opportunity just isn't there.

I qualified and unlike some of the other reviewers who never got reviews because they weren't currently working, I was working at the time and also fit most of their demographics.

Even so, I went through more than 30 surveys before I got any test I was paid for. THIRTY.

If it's not a live interview, it's an obvious way for them to collect free research. ONLY the live interviews pay.

There were two website reviews I went through. They were officially "not recorded" by them.

The one live interview I did, they have taken over a month to pay me for. In fact I'm still waiting.

I wish I had read the reviews before I signed up and wasted a lot of time. This company needs to be sued and driven out of business.

I never qualified for tests for the first few weeks. I got sent a test every week or so, and the questions always screen me out. What a waste of time. I started to get going a bit, then I was suddenly banned because some customer wasn't satisfied.

The unbelievably silly screeners you have to go through. You will not qualify for 90% of the screeners. I have made $40 in one month, which is 4 tests. And I am certain I have gone through over 50 screeners. The questions on these screeners are just ridiculous. How does it matter if I have used a website before? Or how many people exist in my company? Or if I have looked up flight tickets? Complete bull$#*!.

I have a 5.0 rating. Problem with this site is the recorder they use. I can't tell you how many times it screws up and I can't finish the test. So, I'm out money and time. If you complain or report the issue they will hold that against you. They actually tell you, we will credit you this time, but if it keeps happening then we may have to remove your account. Look I don't care if you don't credit me, but don't penalize me for letting you know your software doesn't work! So, I don't report problems anymore. It's crazy! How is it the tester's fault? Your software is screwy. The screeners are silly too. I am sure they are selling those answers. Wasting hours not qualifying. There has to be a better site for testing than this. WASTE OF TIME!

Been on it for 2 weeks now and have had a total of 4 test, all of which i answer a few questions and then get declined. I'm beginning to think it's a scam and the "real user testing" is the "screener questions"..

As other reviews have been saying, you get asked a ton of screener questions in order to qualify to take a test. You are almost never qualify and instead have given them valuable marketing information about yourself for free.

The company UserTesting.com has dumped me. They ended my account after my last user test. They said something about the video not playing properly after being uploaded. This is not my fault or problem. It is their software that is being used. Everything went fine on my end. When you sign up they tell you that is something goes wrong with your recording or you are unable to complete the test then you will not get paid. I did not get paid but closing my account do to their problem is crooked and unfair. This is just another reason not to expect anything from this company. I'm guessing other user testing sites work in a similar fashion since I get no work from a few that I signed up for a year ago.

UserTesting is Horrible!

Do not waste your time and efforts with this company. I am trapped at the house with no income, so I was looking for online part time work that did not cost anything to get started. I signed up for UserTesting and passed their test in order to receive paid work. I had a short test at first which paid $3.00. I got a 4 out of 5 rating for it. After that, I hardly had any tests sent to me but I figured more tests would come over time. Not many do but the biggest problem is when the tests do come they ask a pointless multiple choice question before you can take the test. It is completely random which answer someone may choose but this has nothing to do with testing how a websites functions, which is what the job is about. This is not a survey site, so questions should not be required before testing a website for pay. However, I would answer the question or two before taking the test and every time it would say unfortunately this test is unavailable to me no matter what answer I chose. This makes no sense and it happened every time. These questions have nothing to do with the job and how a company's website works or looks. I did not make any money because of this obvious scam website. Why do they bother to let people sign up if this is how the company functions and there are too many people doing it already? Remember, they collect your information first and you also have to download their screen recording software. Who knows what else this software is doing on your computer. It may be collecting information and sending it to them. You don't know but I cam tell you that i made nothing and any email I sent to them complaining about the questions or lack of receiving work went unanswered. They did not respond or care.

Tip for consumers:
Please don't waste your time waiting to make money from this website. It is better to pay money on a website that guarantees you paid work.

Verified purchase

They gave me feedback that threatened to give me a one star review, but didn't because it was my first test. They said I gave "little verbal feedback" during the test, even though I was giving feedback the majority of the time. The only time I was silent was when the game was doing nothing/loading or the gameplay was the exact same for the 50th time in a row and I could not for the life of me think of more feedback to add.

Not going to waste my time if they have such unreasonable expectations for reviews. This is a $#*!ty company that does not understand at all what being a reviewer is like. Not worth wasting your time over.

Tip for consumers:
Don't waste your time with this, find an alternative website that doesn't treat its reviewers like $#*!

I really like Usertesting and have been a tester since 2017. I've seen good changes and not so good. For instance, having a limited profile and that profile does not get referenced it seems. Qualifying gets tedious when if the question was a profile statistic you wouldn't have to take the qualifier. Not a fan for the new update as the old system was much more pleasing to the eyes. Still the best for UX testers imo.

I started strong but then like so many I spent too much time trying to get qualified and was rejected again after again. I also had a iPhone, Android and PC for testing and scored high on the ones I was able to get.

After the initial honeymoon phase I wasn't able to get anything on any device.

My thoughts are that they have so many testers now that they are flooded with 'talent' and don't have enough work to go around. Save yourself the frustration and head elsewhere. But, then you never know, it might work out.

It's not a scam, if you land a qualifier and have a good test you get paid exactly 7 days to the minute after you complete the test.

Yes, you will take a lot of qualifier tests before you pass one (You pass maybe 10% of qualifiers on average pending your demographics), but to qualify for a test you just have to answer a few questions, takes literally 15 seconds per test.

Qualifiers are specific because the clients want their specific target audience to test their site. You don't want say someone who doesn't care for cars testing a car enthusiast website, you want someone who will actually want to use the site to test it.

It's not a full time job, but you will earn some side money.

They deactivated my account when I did not violate anything. I asked the reason why, received a response telling me they cannot accomodate my question anymore as I am no longer a member. And that's it. Haven't done anything wrong but got the account deactivated.

Tip for consumers:
Their customer service sucks. It took days to get a response and cannot really assist with your concern

They sound like a total scam. I don't even see how a company like this can be in business. At some point in the process, I would think that people would be wiser than to engage with a company that so many people have warned others about.
