“3 good years with User Testing”

J G.
2/15/24

I have been very impressed with User Testing during the 3 years I have worked with them. The projects I've worked on have been very satisfying and fulfilling, and payment arrived exactly 7 days after the task was completed - just as promised. I have only had a couple of tasks in which the system let me down, and I have always been paid (at least partially) for my trouble. Recently, the wait time for payment has been changed to 14 days after task completion, but it was clearly communicated and seems to be working. My only real issue is with the survys that I can't get rid of, which appear on my list again as soon as I delete them. Also, a few that are completely irrelevant to me, but do not provide a 'non applicable' option. Very small issues compared to how much I enjoy working with User Testing.

“Poor communication/contact and impulse termination”

Lisa P.
8/10/24

I had retained a very high rating (five stars) over the course of my time there, yet they dismissed me when the storm Debby knocked out total services in my area and I was unable to attend a session. I relayed this message, but they still deactivated my account(with$511 pending payout) I have ALL of the correspondence sent to them with no response. Additionally,, the customer they claimed gave me a low rating actually reached out to me for another session with them and couldn't t understand about the accusations of the low rating. Things started out well, but went downhill quickly. I am definitely warning others on working with this company

I became a user testing panelist about 2 or so months ago and I was averaging 4-7 tests a week. Than 2 weeks ago I get a email from them stating that I was recognized as someone banned and my account was disabled and about 70 dollars in tests were voided.

I responded with how could I be recognized when it was my first time having a account. To which I have yet to get a response.

My experience tells me if you do well they kill your account and accuse you having a previous account.

I do not recommend them at all.

This so-called website is a total waste of any one's time!
At the end of the day, 90% of the tests they send you, get denied by them from the screeners before you can even start them, a bunch of BS and malarkey... in short, get out of the house and get a regular job, no shortcuts in life...

I have been a tester for a while but the customer reviews is a such a terrible thing. They refuse to pay me and give you a one-star low rating. If you want to be a tester for this company, I recommend you can try trymyui.com It is a terrible company to work with, with terrible clients and terrible customer support, basically they think they are God, and you are nobody, now the one test is only $10 and not to pay you. It is such a ridiculous thing that kept happening. I am quitting now.

They play a little game with you. They give you a test that anyone can take and give you $10 to get you excited. They even give you a tip on how to make it better. Then they recommend a test that anyone can take. After that, you have to take "screener" surveys before you take any test. No matter what you write, you don't quality for a test. They also have unpaid surveys that you fill out to potentially get future testing jobs. Um, no. What they are doing is getting your information via survey and then not paying by saying you don't qualify. It's not a scam because money did go to my Paypal and they haven't been making fraudulent charges. However, I think it's a scam that they trick you into taking surveys, collecting all the information they need, and then not paying you. There are survey sites that pay you to take surveys.

Initially you will verbally review a website and actually be paid the $10 promised. After that you will receive a multitude of screeners but you will qualify for none of those. But in the process of determining whether or not you are a qualified participant for this particular study you will share a lot of information about yourself and your life for free. It will be for free because once you are done that sharing this information you will be told that you do not qualify for this screening. Get out quicker than you got in!

I have made $290 since I have been on it started on 04/10/2018 and it has helped me, as I have been sick and needed money just to get through until my short term disability kicked in. LOVE this site but you do have to keep the tab up and listen for the notifications. There has been 1 day that I didn't qualify for anything but I can't complain. It pays exactly 1 week to the minute of your test and it is AWESOME. I can do it from the convenience of my home, mainly bed, and I also put the app on my phone and tablet.

I highly suspect that the site is technically not a scam but they are dishonest in that what is happening is that as you complete "screener" questions you are providing important information about yourself that is being compiled and sold. The more tests you "screen for" the more they know about you. The more desperate you are to get a gig the more screeners you fill out. That is the real reason they put the fear of God in you to "tell the truth" so you won't get disqualified from other tests. Here's a screen shot you will see a lot of, consider it a losing lottery ticket. "Your profile is not a winner this time - Please try again!"

After about 70 screeners, I started earning cash; it took me like three days of just consistently having the tab open and waiting for dings while I did work or played video games. I would pause everything and take 20 seconds on a screener and then see if I was available to take the test. Remember to speak clearly and always follow the instructions. Have made $150 in exactly 26 days. And all together that was about 3hrs of work. One was a $30 live call.

I qualified to test a website out today. I did exactly as they asked me to, and then I upload the video. It took forever to upload and that's when I got suspicious. It felt like they were doing more than uploading that little video clip. It took like 15-20 mins, like they were downloading all my files or pictures from my computer. After all they have access to it now. I have uninstalled this and I am disappointed in myself because I am normally more careful:-(

I work on a small business full time, User Testing is my side hustle. I work from home, and online; I'm able to go back and forth on tabs.
Not qualifying for tests is normal, it only takes a couple of seconds to answer the questions. If you get denied, move on! There are plenty more tests to offer.
If you think about it, on average a test is $10 and they take 10-25 minutes to finish. That's $30 an hour but keep in mind you will not always qualify for tests. I did tons of research before I decided to give it a try. I've been doing this for a week, and I've made $200.

DO YOUR RESEARCH AND APPRECIATE OPPORTUNITIES, BIG AND SMALL. The more you study, put effort into it, stay honest and continue to be grateful for something, the better your results. Open your eyes!
I will update yall in the near future. Good luck to all the beginners.

They get free user testing videos by screening the users. After that, hardly any test is available. They'll find any reason to cancel your account. Not worth it.

I signed up for this user testing thing, have done a ton of screeners, no tests and now I'm getting spam emails lol. Y'all, i've been duped. The most OBVIOUS thing of all? They don't ask a specific question in the screeners, they ask you multiple choice - like, "in the next 6 months are you planning to: 1. Buy a car, 2. Go on vacation, 3. Remodel your home, 4. Buy clothes - so if they weren't phishing, wouldn't the customer just ask you a question that's relevent to their product? Oh my.

I was looking up for some other testing gigs and came across some negative reviews about usertesting. I have been testing with them for a little over a month now, and every test I have taken I've beed paid on. Now the tests aren't back to back. On average I get about one test per day. Some days I may get three. Other days there may be none. But I've found that they are reliable and pay on time.
***I have yet to have on single issue, whether with getting tests or getting paid.
I think the key is to do good in your initial test/eval. If you get the concept and know what they are looking for, you will get tests -- I think it's that simple.
If I ever get shafted I will be the first to broadcast it. My brother also tests for them. He too has had zero issues.
5 stars!

Adam A

Tip for consumers:
Do a little research on what testers are expected to do/say during a test ---- so you ace your practice test and the paid tests that follow.
It's well worth it if you're looking to make a few hundred extra a month.

People on this site are severely lacking common sense or patience. I've been doing this for over two years and there are tons of test you don't qualify for. However I do easily make over $200 weekly which isn't bad at all. Now I'm in college and $200 without leaving my room is great. It's almost a part time job.

The trick
Make sure the site is open on a tab at all times, turn on notifications, sometimes manually refresh the testing page as I've found that sometimes I'd have test waiting and not hear the notification bell or see a new test until I refreshed

There are tons of screeners you won't pass but there are others that you will. It is ANNOYING but that's the nature of the job. I try to work on it 6 days a week minimum of 4 test as day. You get paid $10 every test with the average test lasting 8-13 minutes. Not including the $30 - $60 payouts for the longer test.

Pay Scale
$10 for 8-20 minutes of work
$30 for 30 minutes
$60 for 60 minutes

It works for me bottom line... I get the annoyance but people complaining about doing 4 screeners and not getting a hit are completely clueless. It's annoying because I don't want to see them get a bad reputation that they don't deserve.

Customer service is non existant. First, you'll most likely apply for like 2 tests out of fifty so it takes weeks to get something and sometimes other people will take it right before you can start. That was annoying but I was like fine whatever I guess. BUT THEN I spent 45 minutes on this stupid product review on my phone (they put like fifty questions for ten bucks) and then I try to upload and it keeps telling me it can't. I think maybe my battery got low but I didn't realize until after. But then I try to report a problem and that doesn't work either so I email them like yo I spent a looong time on this and it won't tell me what is wrong. They email back an automated message saying this might be why it didn't upload and good luck next time. TRASHHHHHHH

UserTesting is an interesting survey company to say the least. Even when a tester has a respectable track record of good reviews they take it upon themselves to lower your rating in one instance for biased costumers who want free advice and subsequently snub your payment. There is an unspoken rule at this company in which you cannot tell the customer that their (ie. Site, idea, etc.) is bad or risk getting a low rating thus decreasing your chance of getting further tests. As others have also pointed out there is no consistency to the tests themselves unfortunately. The majority of tests don't even align within your own demographics or area of knowledge. The operators of the site are disrespectful and care very little about the tester. I can only imagine with the percentage they receive from the back breaking work testers do all day the least they could do is provide a decent service whose operators respect their testers. I've been also noticing a high amount of spam to my email address and calls to my phone number. Don't be a tester for this company, you'd be better off flipping burgers honestly. I made a mistake signing up with them.

Almost all of the reviews that I have read here are negative. The majority of people writing them are obviously not educated on what UserTesting is for.
UserTesting is for extra cash and not meant to be a part-time job.
They never claim to be an alternative to a job nor do they say they will send tests at a specific time to specific people. The amount of tests you receive depends largely on your demographics and your diligence to check for them.
With that said I will go on with my review:
I have been usertesting for over a year now. The first few months, I was not very impressed just like the rest of the people reviewing. I didn't get many tests and didn't qualify for many.
However in the past 4 months UserTesting has been amazing for extra income. Last month I made $300 USD just by testing websites.
I will say, though, that I am signed up with multiple usability testing websites; not just UserTesting. I probably made around half of that with UserTesting though and the other half with another company.
I think they are incredibly generous to offer a $10 payout for 10 minutes of your time. So what if you have to wait a while, just leave the site on in the background and take it when you get one.
I love this website! UserTesting and the other one I use are the best usability testing sites I have ever used.

They don't care about you if you work for a company that is less than 50 people. The "Account Executive" who supposed to help me set up a trial did absolutely nothing. Started from 15 minutes late from the meeting, the late response to the email, to the end, he just stopped writing back. Got NOTHING from the trial except me myself had to tell them what to do. WORST ONLINE EXPERIENCE EVER. The whole back and forth took me over a week. IF you need your customer to tell you what to do, you are not doing your job, Josh, or the whole UserTesting Team.

I had to write this because I'm reading reviews from people saying that Usertesting is biased against them because they don't make a certain salary, are unemployed, etc. This isn't bias- it's how Usertesting works in conjuction with companies who need their product tested. If they want it tested by people who speak Swedish (and they will pay quite a bit to get your feedback videos), they should get what they want. It's pretty common for companies to want feedback from certain demographics.

I have been a tester with Usertesting for about four years, and have made between $500-$1500 per year doing it. I have it open only certain times of the day, and have only gotten 1 4-star rating and countless 5-star ratings. It's all about being clear in your speech, continuing to speak honestly, and putting in a little extra effort when they ask questions. Remember, companies who hire UserTesting are PAYING for the privilege of your feedback. Usertesting is just a platform (middle man) for this, and they pay their testers very well. I have received excellent customer service from UserTesting in the three or so times I have reached out, and I find their tools very easy to use. Excellent company!

I used to love doing user testing tests... they were simple, didn't take too long and paid well. I also did a few studies with them and was usually rated highly. They continued to send out surveys for studies they believed I would fit into, but within the past year, I have not been accepted to any studies- which is extremely strange (I would typically be accepted to 2-3 every month and my user testing rating is 4.5 stars). The last straw was when I completed my last test, the "customer" and user testing both believed that I did not complete the task successfully and rated me at 1 star which meant no payment. I was completely bewildered because I was positive I had successfully completed the tasks and even had proof of that because of the submitted written answers as well. I emailed Usertesting to let them know that and even stated that if they believed I did not successfully complete one part of the task, why would that be rated as 1 star vs 3-4? 1 star is the same rating as an individual who completely did not read directions or complete any of the task, but to rate someone as one star when they did complete the tasks and objective is not right. I will no longer waste my time doing these tests because they are obviously now rating lower just to avoid payment and they showed that they do not care about their testers.

I wasted under ten minutes taking some dumb test and then qualified for this nonsense. The 'scam' of this company is that they have a lot of 'supposed' tests but they appear to be the same test over and over (scam number one) and unless you are in some very niche category, you will not qualify for ANY test. I got various questions about some very specific type of tech category (I had to look it up because I never heard of it).In the interim, you have to answer a lot of questions and you get zero dollars for this scam wasting your time. You would best put your time and efforts to other side hustles. You are best to build a business online. I guarantee that this scam company makes money getting your data that they present as prelim questions. I use the same analysis for every job/side hustle. Don't let companies scam your time and pay you nothing!
BTW: I have added Chrome on my laptop and it was already on my phone but the same deal on both. Again, waste of time and no money made after answering over 35 questions.

UserTesting doesn't provide a way to appeal a 1 star review. It lets companies rate testers but doesn't let testers rate companies. Many times I provide excellent feedback for the clients, which they themselves say so and thank me a lot at the end of the session but I rarely see this reflected on my star ratings because UserTesting doesn't make it compulsory for clients to leave a rating. Then comes one client who leaves a one star feedback which messes up my whole ratings. It is unfair that many times we give great feedback and don't get a rating and then one bad rating messes up everything. If UserTesting really wants to assess the tester's ability and get the real rating, they should make it compulsory for clients to leave rating for every test. Otherwise, one bad rating easily messes up a tester's score. And UserTesting should provide a way for the tester to appeal a bad rating. As it is right now, UserTesting is heavily tilted towards the client and doesn't give a good support to its testers.

I used this website multiple times and got 5 star rating on all of my tests (around 5 or 6 tests) that I completed. I test websites for multiple companies and this was just a fun little way to try another web.
But few days ago I got a review back that had just 1 star on it. Why, you may ask? Because the test asked me to share my personal information such as names of my co-workers, messages and all the meeting I ever did with the software. I declined on showing the messages, which was unnecessary in the situation and I did hide my co-workers names. I followed the instructions and everything was good. Took me even more than 15 minutes.
I got a bad review, because I didn't share my company information which is agains the rules of both usertesting and my company policy.
I reported the fact that this happened and the response? They knew about it and I was right to not share my information but they will not give me the money or get rid of the bad rating. Because I had one bad rating, they took not only $10 that I made from the test, but for some reason all my pending payments that were from the same day. They apologized for the mistake and I never got around $40 that they told me I would have.
I will definitely stop using this website and you should do the same.
