“There has been a tremendous turnaround with Norton”

John D.
9/2/13

There has been a tremendous turnaround with Norton. A few years ago, I got rid of Norton due to it's unreliability and poor screening for viruses. Also, it used to be next to impossible to remove the program, and they used to sneak it on your computer when you downloaded something else. They have really turned this company around and I give it the highest ratings. Norton catches almost everything, except malware, and is very reliable. I currently use Malwarebytes (Fantastic program) in conjunction with Norton. I have not had one issue since doing this. Both are constantly catching something, and I would recommend using both. POST NOTE: The difference between using the free Malwarebytes and the Pro version is that the Pro version catches malware as you surf (real time) while the free version is an after the fact scan.

Norton antivirus is a virus. We would need no antiviruses if these companies went out of business because there would be no more viruses taking over our computers like these so called "anti viruses" do.

Our account was hacked. I called to ask why and was told not to worry. We discovered this on our Credit Card when we were charged 495.85 on Oct 8,2023. When I called to find out why, Norton customer service representatives said don't worry we are looking into it. Norton When I started to ask questions, they hung up on me and told me my phone number was blocked. I would like to report them to an appropriate government agency.

Norton 360 with lifelock. Forget about it. No VPN and who knows what else doesn't work right. I'm stuck with them until license runs out. Anti-virus program is the only good part. Forget about the rest. When the VPN worked, it kept losing the connection. Dangerous to say the least.

In a way it pains me to rate this service so low, as I have had good service from them for a long time (almost 4 years). But lately there have been too many changes, and if you dare to complain, you are shuffled around among different people, and left on hold for longer and longer times while the call volume on your phone drops away. Earlier this week, I had the FBI Virus removed, and purchased a 'tune-up" for seventy bucks (I prepaid for the virus removal). When the job was done, I shut down for several hours, then fired up the next morning, and noticed a boot-up time of several minutes. When I complained, I was told that it was probably something else, and I would have to pay another fifty dollars to have it fixed. Say Whaaaaat? So much for their seven-day guarantee. When my subscription is up, I'm gone. I'm going to use a local tech, and learn to do more myself.

Norton works great while it is installed. The only pop ups I got were from them wanting me to buy more of their products but the service was great. At the end of my term I did not want to renew but could not uninstall. Even the instructions which were hard to find was uninstall and renew. After uninstalling I'm still getting pop ups warning me I have no protection. Very disappointed in their tactics. I have no resolution to share to successfully uninstall. It's great if you want to keep it for the life of your computer.

Tip for consumers:
The reason I don't have proof of purchase I was included in someone that bought 10 uses and shared one with me.

One of such kind is the Norton Antivirus Software. It protects the systems, laptops, etc. from viruses, spyware, worms and Trojan horses. It continuously scans the computer as the user surfs various websites, so that it can provide a constant protection against viruses. http://nortoncom.org/

This is a review of my recent experience with Norton anti-virus software and support. First of all, there IS no support. You are directed to bots and it is very difficult to get an actual human being WITH a brain or courtesy. I also tried calling and was on hold for over an hour before finally giving up.

I have a case number which NO ONE ever followed up on: *******.

I tried to sign up for a new subscription. I actually tried FOUR separate times. The site directed me to pay 39.00 but when I went to the payment page, I was asked to pay $ 94.99. The rep on the chat site tried to figure it out but could not. Instead of escalating or getting assistance internally, he simply disconnected the chat. BEYOND rude and unprofessional. It's all there in the chat notes.

Now I've been waiting for THREE DAYS and no one has responded to my query. The lack of service, knowledge or courtesy is appalling. Norton should be ASHAMED of the level of incompetence within. In any case, I will NOT be signing up for service and I caution would-be customers to research providers before using this company.

Products used:
None bc I was UNABLE to sign up for their service, even with different support agents.

The overall slowdown of my computer performance after installing Norton, and the constant annoying pop ups to buy more products, makes this not worth the security it gives. Toooo frustrating for

I trust my protection with Norton LifeLock. I have been a member for over 2 years and feel very safe with this antivirus software. Get it if you don't have it!

I've used Norton for years but since they included Life Lock and VPN I've had many problems and the support is the pits. It's bad when you know more than the guy they call a tech who really can't fix anything without software. The VPN keeps shutting off at the worst time possible and you never know when it will happen. I'm done with this software that has me virtually locked out of my admin account probably due to allowing a hack or malware in. I use a lot of security and spyware detection and frequent scans. Their fix was to blame it on my ip service and tell them to unblock ports 500 + 4500. That is a router issue that hasn't had a problem. Mostly they won't listen because they appear to not understand or know how to fix any other problems caused by the faulty software program they promote. Techs these days are usually thousands of miles away and I can hardly decipher their accents. They said I should call a repairman for the final solution. What a joke! Norton techs had remote access and when they were done I had to reinstall my keyboard driver libraries and ALL my security software. Beware, the software used to be trouble free but not anymore. I'd appreciate it if someone could suggest a better VPN and virus program, I've tried a few. Thanks.

I am personally using the Norton Deluxe edition, which I have used for over 3 years now and I had no problems with Norton. My favorite function that is included in the Deluxe edition is the SMART firewall.

Tip for consumers:
If you have a plan, and want to switch then do not contact the support. They will just connect you to a gotoassist or teamviewer and help you from there, and I do not feel safe when I enter my credit card details when somebody is remote accessing my computer, so just turn off auto-renew, wait until your plan is over and buy the other plan you planned to buy.

I had Norton installed years ago and have never hesitated to renew... until my computer was hacked. They didn't find this out - I did. First thing I did was call Norton and they promised to take care of this... for a fee. A $300; 00 fee and asked for my credit card. Well, I've hit hard times and could not believe the amount, and knew I couldn't pay it. I was trying to hide the fact that I was crying until the gentelman informed me that he needed the number to another credit card, because first one was rejected. No sense in hiding the crying anymore... I knew I was screwed and told him to forget it, I didn't have the money. Don't know if he felt sorry for me or if he was just a kind man or if he was to "get what he could" because he said he would take care of it for $100.00 now and $100.00 the next 2 months. Payment of $100.00 went through... he took care of hacker and I haven't heard another word about "payments". If this gentleman had not been so kind I would've rated Norton much, much lower. I do realize that he could've been just "getting what he could" but prefer to think he was simply a kind man. As far as Norton is concerned... kind of sleezy claiming to take care of attacks on your computer and then charging a ridiculous fee if your computer is attacked under their watch.
