Tutors are accessible and respond fast. The site is user friendly. I am impressed that my phone calls are always answered promptly. I highly recommend WyzAnt to everyone who needs professional academical help. It's been a wonderful experience. Thank you, WyzAnt.
I spent quite a bit of time preparing my profile for applying at Wyzant. They said it needed some work and I updated it. They still wanted changes so I tried again. They dumped me. I have vast experience with teaching and tutoring but they apparently want generic profiles that match their algorithms. So, much time was wasted and I moved on to friendlier tutoring sites.
They refused my application as a tutor and told me that I do not meet the vetting requirements. It is very sad to see a company using a non-solid reason as a back door to kick you out of the platform. I submitted my application three times and still get refused for no sensible ground.
I have worked with 2 French tutors.
Both times while in the middle of the curriculum the tutors raised their rates, changing the business nature of our agreement.
After my first tutor raised his rates he then decided to stop tutoring and gave no explanation.
My second tutor raised his rates 10$/hr, I declined to pay the additional fee and he charged me a cancellation fee. The problem is Samuel, my former tutor, did not even notify me of the rate change before I could cancel in time for his deadline. He broke his own rule. Samuel was unprofessional and uncaring. Wyzant did not lift a finger to help or understand.
You are expected to write the student's paper for them, and if they are unhappy with it, you get a low rating. Try to correct that. Wyzant doesn't care about the tutors, just about keeping the students coming back the next time a paper is due. That's what you see: "My paper is due in two days, can you help me?" "Help" means to write it for them. Difficult to get students. Policies favor the student or Wyzant, not the tutor. Better to put a ad on a local bulletin board.
I had my tests on the way and needed some tutoring. I came here looking for a tutor that would benefit me. This app is truly trustworthy, I guarantee you that you will find an excellent tutor. It is not like the other scamming apps. There are many positive reviews to back this up. Enjoy!
Once we got a tutor, it was a great experience. Only drawback was finding one. We were going to go with a tutor who listed area and would travel short distance. Then, upon contact, she only wanted to do it through the internet. Might not have actually been in the area. I must say, though, that WyzAnt protected us through the process. Overall, it was a very good experience and the tutoring was great.
Some say anyone can open an account as a tutor. NOT SO. Qualified tutors like myself are denied on the site, if they have not been past tutors, and are trying to reinstill them now, since I have tutor experience. They keep your email off,, and find that if you delayed filling out the profile, you are not qualified to be a tutor, though I have written books, have tons of references,, taught many classes, and great responses, and they don't like being involved with existing classes and media. I was very disappointed in their customer service., all answers saying on,,, they went to the advisory board. A secret method to deny services needed. Very disappointed in this firm and its management.
This company is a disaster. I applied and wrote 3 paragraphs about my experience, and they emailed me 3 times asking me to update my profile, then they emailed me telling me that they didn't think I was a match with their pathetic company. They are patently vague regarding the free response section of creating a profile, and I would never want to work for such a disgusting company like wyzant. Just read their Yelp reviews. Many are complaining about the 40% commission, then there are the vagaries about applying as a tutor.
Our tutor, Melissa, did not achieve any of the promised goals. She promised to improve my daughter's SAT scores. Instead, after three months and $2,000 of lessons, my daughter lost 20-60 points in each SAT subject area from her first effort. Her precalc math grade fell to 81%, which is the lowest Math grade she has ever had. Parents beware.
This website is a scam. I have been a tutor for over 10 months and all of a sudden my profile is removed because of policy violation. And they won't even tell you what it is. The thing is that they take 40% of your fees first, and when you get more hours in when they are bound to change it to like 30% or 20%, they remove your profile. Absolutely scam of a business.
I'm writing a dissertation and needed help deciding on a research design. Ali met with me the same day I contacted him, asked appropriate questions to understand my proposal, and provided timely feedback and follow up. I couldn't have asked for more.
This site is a fantastic way to find qualified tutors in any subject quickly and efficiently. I've used Wyzant as both a student and a tutor and have been very impressed with the business model, website, and the customer service!
This app really helped me find a great tutor- and FAST for my son who needed help prepping for test. I'd recommend it to everyone looking for a nice selection of tutors that you can peruse through to see who best fist your needs and wants.
Wyzant is extremely uptight. They seem legit because they make the tutors pass "tests" and other written explanations of their skills but I think they are controlling. I tutor at a college and through a different site, UniversityTutor.com. I have been able to meet up with countless students through that site and not a single one through Wyzant. I am trying to delete my Wyzant account because it is useless but with no such luck. You do not need to be paying commission to some site for tutoring or finding a tutor. There are other better options.
Wyzant does all the thing that make tutoring undesirable like marketing and collection.
A little preperation and you can zero in on your student's problem and move them ahead. The goal of any good tutor should be to work yourself out of a job. That is easy with Wyzant.
WyzAnt is a total rip-off! I have had a profile with them for a year and haven't received any tutoring jobs in spite of having passed 6 tests from French to English literature. I have been tutoring for 20 years in another country and when I moved back to the US, thought I might use their site. Every time you end up spending a lot of time answering potential students - I have spent more than 40 hours doing that - but the students never want to give their credit card information to WyzAnt before seeing you and you are not allowed to give them the information directly. Frankly, I don't even understand how they make ANY money with such a poorly organized system.
Tutor was nice but not worth the money. On top of that they double charged me. I called and they said they would fix error instead they sent me to collections! Hit my credit score for being placed on there. I didnt want to fight them anymore so I just paid the collections. Then Wyzant tutored me on something else. Did you know you credit will get hit again for paying it! Totally true. Way to stick it to students!
The tutor that I had was able to talk to me about concepts. When it came down to the organic problems in the chapter, she was unable to answer those questions and said she would get back to me. I am now going to contact my teacher for any questions that I have and no longer waist my money on a tutor who doesn't know the material well enough to tutor someone
Tutors may apply to students who are a good fit, while tutors can gracefully decline tutor requests from students who may not be a good match. I presently have 10-15 students per week; I would not have had a connection to these students outside of WyzAnt.
Having worked through WyzAnt for just a little over two years and having accumulated 600+ tutoring hours, I can attest to the fact that the system works. I turn down students weekly because of my limited availability. I could have twice as many students if I had more time.
I set the fees to be charged. Though WyzAnt does keep a percentage of the fees, that is to be expected, as their internet company is what connected me with my students. Payments are all made to WyzAnt, who in turn pays me. I never have to ask students or their families for money! I make 3 times what I would be earning at a tutoring center.
Amazing resource When you need additional help with a subject a competent person is readily available I was a bit hesitant not knowing anyone who has used your service Presently surprised Was able to find an algebra 2 teacher to tutor me! Amazing knowledge and amazing service I highly recommend
I started Wyzant in May (today is June 11th) and I have one students and have made close to $1,000 already. What I love is the fact that the customer proposes a fee. Then the tutor has the opportunity to accept that amount, charge more, or less. Once you gain a trusting client who likes your work, the revenue starts pouring in. I also love that Wyzant sets it all up, keeps track of all the details, and only takes a small percentage. I am very happy with that. I have made no less that $30 an hour. Some people actually propose as high as $75 an hour depending on the request. If you are pondering whether or not to join, stop thinking and go ahead and set up your account. You won't regret it. Go for it.
They are extremely impersonal and don't do anything to look at any individual case, be it a tutor or a student. Their tests for subjects are fairly trivial, and they don't make it easy to get student. Their service is for the rich, and most cannot afford the prices wyzant wants you to charge. They are simply one of the big businesses in the US, and their top concern is the money they make. Their tutoring platform for online work was good for a short period, but they changed it so that it is almost always inadequate. They say that they don't want to you to do a student's homework, but many of the tutors do that anyway. I think their rating continues to drop, and some day they will be on the street.
My experience with this service was excellent! At first, I thought it might bea scam but it's legitimate. The tudor I worked with was very friendly and helpful. There are also many tutors who are ready and willing to help you with almost any subject. I hope more individuals learn about this site and what it serves to the public. Thank you Wyz Ant, you were a tremendous help!
I have only been working a short time with WyzAnt, but I think that it is a great website with a lot of potential for qualified individuals.
It is true that less than qualified individuals may fall through the cracks in the signup process, but these individuals drop off quickly by either 1) not being as interested and therefore dedicated to making money with the site or 2) showing their faults when speaking and/or working with potential clients.
Yes, I would rather be able to receive 100% of the payment, however I set my rates to something I can survive with and know that I am receiving a lot for that 40%: leads, a large backing company, administrative assistance and peace of mind for payments.
The site's biggest interest is not for tutor and student to connect with each other, but to make money as a third party agency. As a tutor, my account has been deactivated because a potential student was not willing to pay with a credit card through Wyzant. We still exchanged addresses and scheduled a meeting. Wyzant deactivated my account without notice, even though I have had many students before that and have brought reasonable profit for Wyzant. I would not recommend this website to any one.
Overall good experience as a beginning tutor. I was able to get 5 students within a month of joining the site. There are some algorithmic problems in how they look at underpreforming tutors which, importantly, they seem to be aware of and are looking to fix. I look forward to a continuing relationship with this company.
