Tutors are accessible and respond fast. The site is user friendly. I am impressed that my phone calls are always answered promptly. I highly recommend WyzAnt to everyone who needs professional academical help. It's been a wonderful experience. Thank you, WyzAnt.
I spent quite a bit of time preparing my profile for applying at Wyzant. They said it needed some work and I updated it. They still wanted changes so I tried again. They dumped me. I have vast experience with teaching and tutoring but they apparently want generic profiles that match their algorithms. So, much time was wasted and I moved on to friendlier tutoring sites.
From the first call to the last communication via email, the customer care was always there to answer my question, walk me thru solving the problem, and the last but not least they were very patient and took the time to come with the best solution possible, THANK YOU.
Alex Jordan has been superb in getting me back to where I used to be before I became ill. He is patient and very well versed in his field. He is an excellent teacher.
I was able to get my grandson tutored so he could understand and proceed with calculus. It was a very positive outcome and we will continue to use your services from time to time.
Will was able to make the mechanisms and reactions very easy to understand and remember. Helped greatly with homework and for last minute studying! Definitely recommend!
Grayson was very knowledgeable with Excell and that exactly what I needed. We were able to work through all my work and double check anwsers and formulas for errors. Will definitely hire him again.
WyzAnt has been a great network to let folks know I am available to help them with their computer needs. I have meet some wonderful folks who needed someone to tutor them.
She was wonderful, patient, and explained problem well. She recognized where I was having trouble and talked me through it. It has been 14 years since I took my last Math class.
I have been tutoring with Wyzant for about 6 months now. I started soon after finishing grad school. I appreciate the services it provides, and wish I would have known about it when I was a student.
Pros: I like that the financial information is handled through Wyzant. They ensure the money is there to pay me, and I don't have to do a thing. I have had students who short me on what they owe; some tutoring sessions take longer than expected. With Wyzant I never have to worry about that. Also, they give me greater visibility than I have been able to find anywhere else. Want ad postings get me a fraction of the exposure I get through Wyzant. And their website ensures a satisfactory experience for the student as well. Their certifications help weed out those who don't have a clue, they offer a satisfaction guarantee for the first lesson, and offer background checks on the tutors.
Cons: They're expensive. For me to make my normal rate, I have to charge an extra $10 to cover the cut Wyzant takes. Also, they limit my travel radius to 40 miles, when I would be willing to travel twice that distance to reach higher densities of students in my core subject areas.
Conclusion: Wyzant offers screened tutors at a moment's notice with a minimum of fuss. However, you pay for their services, perhaps a little more than expected.
My tutor is helping me learn at my pace. The class material is saved for my tutoring session and reviews it with me and answers all my questions. I am really enjoying this. Thanks Melvin.
WyzAnt - not so wise!
Here is the other side of the coin that I experienced:
I have been desperately trying to secure a statistics tutor for my daughter who just started at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA (San Francisco Bay Area). The Wyzant website looked like a great place to start when I read their propaganda, but after two weeks of waiting for responses from their tutors, only one has replied to say he was out of town. The others have not responded at all! Even though the site states a 48hr reply period. Yesterday (Oct 27,2010) I sent an email to Wyzant to find out why there is such a slow turn around - You would think their office would at least try to contact me immediately for good customer relations, I even gave them my work phone number. But what really makes me disappointed is the fact that they insisted on having my credit card information before I could expect any phone reply from the prospective tutors. Well they have my credit card (since 4 days ago), but not one person has called me back. I will post an update if anyone does decide to contact me. Right now I would recommend finding a tutor at the school where your child is attending because this company should be graded with an 'F' for failure to perform as stated.
Christiana was very knowledgeable, patient and empathic with my daughter in terms of helping her with math and her special needs. I would recommend her to anyone!
I was able to use Wyzant to find a tutor that suited my daughter and her needs. I was able to read profiles and get an idea of their expertise. Very pleased with the Wyzant service and Jean as tutor.
I was charged for the lesson I didn't request,
A tutor was able to schedule lesson without any confirmations in the last minute
And you are not able to cancel the lesson because of 24-hour cancel restrictions,
I don't get it what kind of application logic it is that doesn't have any confirmation of customer
I requested the refund, probably they wouldn't pay
Definitely the best tutoring website I have seen and registered with. I do hate the high commission they charge. But they do offer a lot of functions on website.
David is an excellent tutor. He was very knowledgeable & patient with my son. My son felt confident entering the 7th grade after receiving tutoring from David.
I enjoy working with WyzAnt and am really indebted to them for finding the tutees I have found. I am hardly entrepreneurial, and appreciate their middleman setup, which is quite copacetic.
If anyone claiming to be a tutor for Wyzant asks for any type of payment method then they should be reported to Wyzant immediately. Wyzant tutors are paid by Wyzant.
Wyzant tutors such as Dana M attempt to complete fraudulent billing practices. They ask you for your credit card before the first tutoring session and then their tutors complete fraud by charging your card for work they never did. I was told by Dana M that I would not be charged for tutoring sessions that were canceled 24 hours in advance. I no longer needed tutoring sessions so I canceled my sessions in ample time not expecting to get charged. I contacted Wyzant directly to make them aware that I canceled the sessions and that I did not expect to receive a charge on my credit card. A representative from Wyzant explained that I will not be charged for canceled tutoring session because I canceled 24 hours in advance. She assured me I would not get billed. I just received a bill for a session that never happened. DONT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD THE TUTORS COMPLETE FRAUDULENT BILLING PRACTICE.
Tip for consumers:
Don't request Dana M wyzant she commits fraud

It literally took just a few minutes to find a calculus tutor to meet our needs. And the tutor responded super quickly. It is easy to communicate with the tutor via the site.
They have played with my daughter's account while the lesson was going on they terminated the lesson and charged me. The tutor also charged me via Pay Pal.
I worked with a tutor who was wonderful and I worked with another who was not so wonderful. I only worked with the bad tutor for about 20 minutes online. Although I had explicitly stated what I needed (our correspondence is in writing), he accused me of not being upfront with him and being too low-level to help (he did not charge me, as far as I know). I called and spoke to a friendly representative who sent me a list of tutors and stated she would note the bad tutor to her supervisor. I am a "nontraditional" (aka old) student who has been out of school for a long time, so maybe I am a slower learner, but I have been working really hard to be successful (I've gotten A's on my tests). I felt insulted and humiliated by the bad tutor's comments/attitude. As I stated, the first tutor was really great (it's been a while, but I think he was from WyzAnt), so I don't think the bad tutor is representative of their tutors. Even though I had a bad experience, I would still recommend the site because there are kind people who are patient and understanding out there. Don't give up, even if you're old and slow!
I have been a tutor for a year and it has been rewarding on one side and also not so on the other. It is rewarding indeed to find new students and teaching them, but on the side, I don't have only good comments for the On-line tutor company. It is not so easy to find students, even as WyzAnt says that all the marketing and payments get on their hands, it is your job to follow all the E-mails and maketing yourself through your mails and successive contact with the customers, which I don't mind. But sometimes there are long periods of not having custormes and then they can deactivate your account without any explanation. Also they deactivate the account without warning, if they see something in the communication e-mails between you and your student they don't find within the rules of their company, such as giving your phone, or making appointments without them as intermediaries. They could give a warning, and not being so radical or dictatorial as they are, especially when I have been earning money for this company, that takes the 40% of your hourly rate. It is not a way to appreciate their tutors.
They ALWAYS use the send it to board of review to get on. They want cheap unliable people so they can collect their fee. Very very disappointing company.
If you ever make a mistake there, they will never forgive you. They will block you out for the rest of your life. They are paranoid, unloving, and only concerned about how much money they can make.
