Tutors are accessible and respond fast. The site is user friendly. I am impressed that my phone calls are always answered promptly. I highly recommend WyzAnt to everyone who needs professional academical help. It's been a wonderful experience. Thank you, WyzAnt.
I spent quite a bit of time preparing my profile for applying at Wyzant. They said it needed some work and I updated it. They still wanted changes so I tried again. They dumped me. I have vast experience with teaching and tutoring but they apparently want generic profiles that match their algorithms. So, much time was wasted and I moved on to friendlier tutoring sites.
I needed a tutor to help my daughter get a science paper done and I was very pleased with the results
Woops they do not listen to customers. God. I need to call again on monday. They would never give you refunds^^
I've been finding students through Wyzant for about three years, netting about $30K for about 600 hours. I think Wyzant's end comes out to about $8K (I forget just when I raised my rates). Right now I bill $80 per hour and keep $64. Package discounts come out of Wyzant's end. It's not nearly a living, but it isn't nothing, either.
Over this time, the site has developed a bit, and some initially infuriating site behavior (clunky interface, slow server) has improved quite a bit. There are still some page glitches. Administrative responses to queries have always been prompt.
Their cut schedule seems fair--hey, they have a business model, and if you want to use their bulletin board service and accounting, you pay their fee. They try to control student/tutor contact to prevent poaching (from other tutoring services) and cheating (by their own tutors and their own students). Some of the resulting policies are silly (like how they don't print your registered clients' full surnames--you tend to find this stuff out when you meet them for the first time) and some of them are annoying and silly (like how they lock communications when long-time clients change credit cards without telling them). But I understand and respect their paranoia.
If I were to recommend one change, it would be to eliminate the word-count check on tutor lesson summaries. I do resent a computer program telling me how to write. Of course, it doesn't complain if you fill out its requirement with jabberwocky. If I were to recommend another, it would be to edit the mistakes out of some of their tutor qualification quizzes. Those could be a bit more rigorous, too--though that might cut significantly into their tutor base.
I was in search for a tutor for my eldest son and thanks to this great site and program we received the help we needed.
We found an amazing tutor and scheduling and payments are all done through WyzAnt which makes it all really easy.
I found a great local tutor via WizAnt for my son. I see some customers are hesitant to provide billing info before they can get tutor's phone number. I was ok with that, may be because I spent more money than the tutor from WizAnt was asking per hour, to just check out 2 other tutors, who were not a good match. If you are willing to pay for work, it should not matter: we provide billing info for all types of purchases all the time, not knowing if it will be a good buy. I was a teacher myself, and know that this work is not easy, and deserves to be paid for. Also, you are NOT charged till your tutor loggs in session date/ time/ description, and you rate it. I also hear that the commission WizAnt is getting from the tutors' rate is quite high, starting from 40%, and depending on collected tutoring hours goes down to 20%. It does sound high. But if Tutors do use this company for marketing, I think it suits them. They do have an easy to use website, which pops up in a top 5 companies, providing similar services. The tutor I was connected to by WizAnt is very professional lady, her commute to my place is very short, and the rate is affordable. Sessions are logged in by the tutor with the short description of content, and time. My tutor is very good about providing exact session timing, I am not worrying about overcharge. You can see all charges on-line. So far I did not have issues with customer support (had to call to make sure my new billing info is available, so payment is not overdue). With the growing competition, I hope, WizAnt will lower the % it takes out of the tutor's rate, otherwise as a customer I am satisfied with WizAnt services so far.
So far my experience using WyzAnt has been wonderful. It has made scheduling and paying for my daughters Violin Lessons smooth and easy.
Prior to beginning Statistics in the fall semester, I was scared to death of the subject. I was enrolled in a level 400 Stats class with no background on the subject. Desperate for a tutor, I did my research and selected Leandro H. Leandro is an extremely patient individual. At times when I was frustrated, he insisted on showing me another way on how to find the solution. He is also encouraging and understanding and therefore makes him a patient individual (borderline Saint):)
As part of the course, I use JMP for Statistical Analysis. Because of Leandro's background with SAS, he was able to quickly assist with JMP software. Topics that he tutored me in are: Linear regression; probability models; hypothesis testing for proportions; comparing means; ANOVA; Multiple Regression and correlation; and comparing ANOVA models.
The books we used as part of my coursework were as follows:
Richard D. DeVeaux, Paul F. Velleman, and David E. Bock. (2011). Stats: Data and Models. Upper Saddle River, New
Jersey: Prentice-Hall, Inc
Alan Agresti and Barbara Finlay. (2009). Statistical Methods for the Social Sciences, fourth edition. Upper
Saddle River, New Jersey: Prentice-Hall, Inc
As a PhD student, I would HIGHLY recommend Leandro for Statistic tutoring.
I love wyzant. Their platform is easy to use and the selection of quality tutors is great. I was very happy with the tutors I found.
WyzAnt is easy to use, super convenient. I am very happy with my experience. I am also very happy with the tutor, he is helping my son a lot!
I have found WyzAnt to be very convenient and have always had very helpful tutors. My kids always are pleased with tutors.
TERRIBLE> I just wrote a review but it got deleted.
They will delete your emails, OR send them but cross out the email/web addresses/phone numbers (because you're not supposed to send that information via the Wyzant message system)... but they will do this arbitrarily. Sometimes they'll just cross out the pertinent information, sometimes they'll delete the message but still provide the name of the sender, sometimes they'll delete both the message AND the name of the sender and make it so you can't contact the person who messaged you. Also, sometimes they'll send you an email stating that someone sent you a "NOT LEGITIMATE TUTORING REQUEST." But there is no rhyme or reason as to what particular action they take... I guess it depends on their mood and PMS cycle or something. As a result, you lose out on business (they already take 40% of what tutors earn, and then cut them off at the knees whenever a student makes the mistake of - you know - providing very normal information such as further contact information in order to meet. This also makes you (both the tutor and student) look unprofessional, so thanks for that wyzant! I would LOVE to know what two-bit slacker runs this site. It is the HEIGHT of unprofessionalism. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!
I was very pleased with the service that my son received. The tutor was very knowledgeable in the subject. Great Job.
Found tutor within 30 minutes. Had first session in a few days later... scheduled some more immediately afterward... chat feature on App is awesome!
Super experience with finding a chemistry tutor for my son! Knowledgeable, professional and patient!
My daughters Algebra 2 tutor has been fantastic. I'm very happy with her progress. Great selection of tutors to choose from.
Do not appreciate Wyzant. They take a large percentage of the tutor's pay. Regarding their teachers, mainly of them cannot teach a professional lesson. The company Takelessons has much more professional teachers. Go to Takelessons to find your teacher!
I joined Wyzant to tutor students. It took over 12 days to get approved, and emails to customer support were unanswered. I googled the issue and found many teachers do not use the site because of lack of customer support. I was approved finally and I began anyway. Soon I found students who were spamming or messaging inappropriate things. But there is no way to block or stop the messages. I wrote to customer support but no response. I have never heard of a site that allows messaging but won't all the receiver to block for safety. Three days later Wyzant responded telling me they closed my account. This means I lost contact with 11 students I was tutoring. When I try to login it will not allow it. I have messaged customer support and I got this message below. So they closed the acct but can't fix it. They don't even know why it was closed. I have never heard of such. Also, it notes they will respond in 3-5 days. I have 3 sessions for tutoring set for this evening and the parents will not understand why I didn't show up. I would not recommend this site to teachers or professional tutors. They need to work on tutor safety and also improve their customer service.
