Come up with images you like, from Google, logos that work for you, even if it's not close to what you want. This will give your designers a place to start, which will greatly speed things up as well as get them going the right direction from the start.
Have pictures that capture some aspect or idea you want in your logo, anything that works. When you shave these pictures with all the designers they'll respond. Then the interaction starts and its up to you to say yes or no and be specific and clear. You'll see your design emerge, it did for me. It's process, I know, trite but true in this case.
They'll probably be able to do a very good job. Be as specific as you can about your requirements and your expectations.
Sitejabber is a review site not a job forum. Try finding a designer in your area through a professional association for design like AIGA. Usually logo is $1000 and up, company identity is $3000, depending on the designers experience and scope of work.
