Hi Neil,

We appreciate your interest in one of our properties. Once an auto bid is setup, it will only be triggered if a bid is placed against your bid by another user. However, the system will not go over your max auto bid limit. With that said, you will not be able to outbid yourself unless you place a bid higher than your max auto bid limit.
