Back in the days we didn't have such technologies, mark my words. Today we can explore the genealogy just using the mobile application which gives you insightful information about your origin. I ain't believe it's 100% correct, nevertheless it's way cheaper than applying to special labs or companies which are specialized in gathering your DNA and running comprehensive tests. Moreover it's more time-consuming than just using mobile application. So I pretty much favor them for this app.
I cancelled membership 1 day prior to a repeated monthly charge due date but was charged 2 days later. Customer service states there is no record of my cancellation. They did cancel this renewal and promised to refund this charge. I will update this review accordingly but this should not have happened to begin with. I am skeptical of this companies business tactics.
I've had a membership off and on with Ancestry for over 10 years. And I've been very happy with them. They've helped me build a tree of over 2000. Their data base is far larger then any other family search site and with less useless gimmicks. My only complaint is how many ancestry members just copy other member's trees without doing the research. Any mistakes in those trees are then repeated over and over again. So be sure to back any info you may find on other member's trees with a reliable source.
As for the high cost of a subscription; well, Ancestry is a tool. Use it if you want your money's worth. As the volume of data in your tree grows, the quality of your hints and your search results will improve. That said however, it will eventually get harder and harder to find new available sources of info. There is only so much out there on your family. That's when it maybe time to take a break and cancel your subscription for awhile. Cancelations will cost you $25 unless you wait to cancel at the end of your subscription. Then it will cost you nothing. If you take the 2 week trial and want to cancel, be sure to do it prior to 2 days before the end of the trial. Otherwise you'll be charged the $25 cancelation fee and the 1st month's membership. That's in the terms of agreements.
I have much of my family's historical information and had been on ancestry.com looking up more. I ran in to a roadblock so decided to use their "professional" genealogy services to hopefully complete my family tree (at least until it could give me information on my German ancestors). I paid over $3000. 00 to have them do this research for me. I emailed JC Bossone the family tree that had been handwritten by my great aunt as well as info my parents had given me. He told me it might take a while but they would try to trace my ancestors to Germany (or wherever they are from if the records indicated something else). Understandable, right? Well, I eventually received an email that my tree was complete and I would be receiving my booklet soon. I excitedly went online and was dismayed that there wasn't any new information. I got my booklet and it had all of the information I had given them and copies of a couple of papers my great great grandmother had signed for a pension for my great great grandfather from the civil war. Well, I already had these (you can get them free online from a civil war database). It had absolutely NO additional information and actually contained LESS info than I already had. I emailed JC and he replied telling me that they have to verify information before they move on. Verify what? I gave them all of the info so if they took five minutes (as long as it took me) they could have verified all of the info. That's what I got for $3000. 00... What a joke!
WORST EXPERIECE EVER! DO NOT EVERY GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO. THEY WILL NOT LET YOU CANCEL, CONTINUE TO AUTO SUBSCRIBE AND HIT YOUR ACCOUNT! NO REFUNDS, HIT ANOTHER MONTH AFTER CANCELATION. NO CANCELATION OPTION ONLINE. MAKE IT THE MOST DIFFICULT TO CANCEL. AND ON TOP OF IT THE SERVICE WASNT EVEN WORTH IT. TOO DIFFICULT TO FIND MY ANCHESTRY. IT IS ALL DO IT YOURSELF. RIDICULOUS WASTE OF MONEY!
Not worth the cost. To find out nothing new. Horrible customer service. Can not give a minus rating but that is what they deserve.
Tip for consumers:
Don't waste your money.

DNA test.
The product is a scam. My mother had to provide them with spit 2x; once because Ancestry lost the order once received and the second time due to not being able to provide a final decision regarding ancestry. They asked for a 3rd sample. Every time they ask for a sample it takes 6 to 8 weeks for them to process. My mother received the gift for Christmas 2022, it is now June 2023 and still no results. We asked for a refund and they refused stating it was through Amazon and all refunds should be through them. Amazon is a drop-shipper Ancestry used, it wasn't Amazon's fault it was Ancestry's for not being able to provide/follow through on the service paid for. You can't return a service to Amazon and if it was a product (which it is not) it is already passed the 30 days due to Ancestry's processing times and incompetence and it is a product you spit in and mail so that's also a reason it would be impossible to gain a refund from the third party. This company is worth millions, has millions of dna stored (supposedly) and yet can't seem to figure out how to get this right after 2 attempts nor will they provide a $60 refund due to their ineptitude. This company is greedy and fraudulent. I would suggest finding another company. We've done 23 and me and they were able to get results within the first try.

Ancestry DNA
You do not have time to read my reviews of your NEW enhanced version. I have just looked at half a dozen sites and not one of them has favorable comments that are not overshadowed by an enormous negative reflection.
I do not like any feature of the new ancestry program. The time line is cluttered by every family members info. The Life Stories are a joke filled with the wrong information on the ancestors I viewed. Oh yes I can edit it but I spent my time documenting it and getting it right to have to endure someone else's mistakes in my view.
I added a will yesterday that attached a wrong death date and when I added it to all the children it gave all of them the same death date. Every time I add a record I do not want to wait for the timeline to highlight before I move on. My time is valuable and this version is a Power point presentation, not user friendly it is time consuming and not logical.
40 yrs I have been researching and I have had FTM since version 1 15 yrs with Ancestry and this is not worth the effort for me to have to click click click and then redo the errors that come with the program.
This was more than an enhancement to the program it is a major overhaul and like when Henry Ford introduced the Edsel a lot of hype and a big Flop!
Ordered 2 DNA kits and received them. Charged $88.95 each. Got results 6 weeks later which I am suspicious of. From day of order, emails flooded account with advertising and more advertising. Blocked them. 2 weeks later they charged me another $149.00. Saw it on my year end statement analysis and called them yesterday... 2 calls 30 minute wait time. Jerrod told me he could not help me and kept saying and reading scripted nonsensical answers... I escalated, he put me on hold, came back said he was Shawn the supervisor BUT IT WAS THE SAME REP. Saying the same nonsensical things. Told him I wanted a supervisor who could rectify my problem and Shawn said there wasn't one. They were supposed to call or email me with resolution about a credit yesterday... no word. They engage in deceptive automatic billing practices for subscriptions that you never wanted or knew about. This company needs to be stopped. I only wish I had been recording the convo cuz it would be viral today... beyond stupidity.
I 'Had' been a member of Ancestry.com for 14 years. Recently, Oct 2023, Ancestry updated how their interface works (OR in my case did NOT work) and there was NOT a way to 'Contact us' either through chat or a phone call while online. I was having an issue with a duplicate person, which is VERY common on Ancestry, I needed to delete this person, so I did. Keep in mind I was working in about the 1450's, where the records are messy at best. When I deleted this 1 person, it removed every person in my 'Tree' from that time up to about 1800, over 1000 people. So I used their 'Chat bot' which is a f'ng waste of time, when finally I was able to chat with a person. "We cannot do anything if you delete a person"... come on I was on IT for 35 years, data is still there. I was so upset I canceled my account and had EVERYTHING deleted. 14 years of research, with piss poor service. Plus they would not apply the remainder of my account balance to my wife's DNA account. So I got screwed out of about 9 months or $300+ that was left. DO NOT USE ANCESTRY.
Tip for consumers:
I really enjoy doing ancestry work, however, Ancestry.com ruined that for me. I should not have ever signed up with them, 14 years.....

Buyers be aware! Ancestry notes that they take their customer service and any complaints seriously. Then if they take complaints seriously then why is their response to everything the same "Canned" response over and over of call customer service and speak with them?
On June 30th, I called to inquire about my question. After a 45 minutes conversation with an associate and going back and forth, I asked to speak with their manager, I was told that Ancestry "does not have managers." The associate then hung up on me.
After being hung up on, I called back waiting 30 minutes in que to speak with someone then asked to speak with a manager. The associate argued with me and told me that she was in charge of ancestry and "how she is dying to make my dreams come true". I got so frustrated that I ended up hanging up.
On other occasions on June 30th, July 1st and July 10th, when I asked to speak with a manager, I was put on hold for 2-hours waiting to speak with a manager only to be told, "they could not be bothered with customer's petty issues".
Ancestry needs to get their act together, they need to stop responding with "Canned" responses and they need to take time to actually resolve the issue. The time they spend with the "canned" response could actually be used to help solve customer issues. Buyers be aware of their treatment.
After sixteen years of research and never uploading my tree to ancestry, I felt with the coming of old age the benefits of doing so would be beneficial in its completion.
My tree was marked private; therefore, it would not be shown under their trees for review. However, the moment it was synced, it was shown making my private notes available for the world to view.
Only one of my trees was linked to Ancestry but they hacked all my trees (a work in progress) and made them and my photographs visible.
In order to do this, my computer had to be hacked as I did not upload these photos to them. They also obtained all personal documents held on the drive.
Not only was their maneuvers unacceptable but they made changes to my tree. They are
Unscrupulous in their grabbing private information to enhance their website.
Changing this data has forced me to begin again.
Should you need assistance with your research use www.familysearch.org. It doesn't cost you anything and records pertinent to your search are more accurate than Ancestry.
A total waste of money. Relatively quick processing but I didn't get my haplogroupes... Guessing nationality is useless - I already know it...
I have just gotten and account with ancestory.com.au and paid for the pay-as-you-go option. However once I had paid it and the money had gone through I was not able to access any documents on the website. Every hint I got on the family tree just took me to a page which tried to get me to pay for an annual service or pay again for the PAYG.
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT? I just paid for the right to access 10 documents on their website and suddenly I am not allowed to use that 10 and need to buy an monthly subscription. All in all I think ancestory.com is a huge con job (I am aware it is a reputable website but my experiences have been only of money grabbing and dodgy payment systems). They have taken $10 from me and given me nothing in return, although $10 is not that much it is something to me. When I pay for any good or service I expect it to be actually carried out, not meeting expectations is one thing but not doing anything for the money they collect is just a total rip off. Hence I am giving them one star because of their shoddy service and lying payment plans.
I would have given it a half star if I could of. I just spent AN HOUR AND A HALF on the phone with ANCESTRY.COM because they canceled my account and deleted my trees. I called to reactivated and restart the 6mn period today since I lost 2 months of work. Then the agent and a supervisor both told me I didn't have an account under my email address (even though I was looking right at it) and that I was using an account that was over a year old even though I didn't know the user name and password. How do you sign into an account you don't know the username and password and don't have the email or phone number linked to it to get the username and password? I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANCESTRY.COM. RUN, RUN AWAY FROM THEM!
Tip for consumers:
Save everything the moment you find it or you might lose it!
The fact our OWN ANCESTORS information is kept from us until they have their monetary gain is blasphemy. Can't see anything with a free account unless you pay.
DNA testing doesn't hone in on specific regions in Asia - just the continent itself. Thanks for verifying what I've already know - enjoy my $79!
CANNOT BELIEVE ANCESTRY LOST MY RECORDS AND PICTURES FROM 11 YEARS WORK. BETTER CHECK TO SEE IF ALL IS IN YOUR GALLERIES. MINE DISAPPEARED AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANSWERS!
Photos and added media cannot be viewed just keep getting a grey spinning wheel and the article in question does not appear going to go elsewhere
Cancelled my trial within 30 days but no refund. Hands off this company. Have sent emails to ancestry.com, but not a single reply.
Too many irrelevant searches. Also Ancestry is great for selling your family photos to Google and Pinterest without your permission. Thumbs down.
This site allows us to track our past and family lines. The creators had definitely poured time for this.
Information not accurate, not free public record, spam and virus computer exposure if u subscribe, all services with fee,
I called customer service today to find out why I was being charged $99 every six months (presumably because I failed to see some tiny print on a back page somewhere that made this unconscionable "renewal" occur-- that in itself a scam), and I was on hold 50 minutes. Finally, I reached a customer service representative. But when I told her that I needed to inquire about an unauthorized subscription charge, without comment, she transferred me to a number that caused a loud screech to come out of my phone. Then after 30 seconds, my call was intentionally dropped. WHAT A SCAM! Seriously!
It gets worse. At a minimum, I knew I needed to cancel my so-called subscription online immediately. THERE WAS NO WAY TO DO SO. I clicked on How to Cancel My Subscription. I followed the instructions exactly, going to My Accounts page that said Cancel My Subscription. But guess what? The link to Cancel My Subscription does not exist! I even had my twenty-year-old come over to the computer to double-check the process. She said "Wow, what a scam. The link's not there."
At this point, I've contacted American Express to dispute the latest charge. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER use Ancestry again. I am appalled at this entire
Scam by what I thought was a reputable company. WHAT A WAY TO MAKE MONEY! You've breached the public trust with your consumers, Ancestry, and I couldn't be more disappointed.
I got no where with my trial, canceled my account and they still charged me. They refused to give a refund, complete scam, do not use.
I did hours of research in the past and most of it is gone. Tired of clicking on names with feathers. Can't see a whole chart.
The limited information I receive was no more than I already new from my family. All they want is more money to track so called relatives.
