Buyer beware

I booked my car rental through this agency online for my trip to Aruba immediately upon receiving confirmation of my booking. I also received a separate advising me that I should take out car insurance which appeared to not have been included in my car rental and that it would cost me more once I arrived at the car rental agency. After consideration, I decided to purchase the car insurance when I arrived at the car rental agency. The agent immediately told me upon reviewing my account me, even asking or inquiring that my vehicle had full coverage as part of the rental rate I was charged. So it is very important to contact the rental agency before committing to taking any additional vehicle insurance when I requested a refund I was denied multiple times so this is a fire beware warning.

Booking Group Scam
April 5, 2025

You make the car hire booking and make payment.
Then they say you have to provide an International Driving Licence.
When you say you don't have one and you have never had to provide one before, they cancel your booking.
You ask for your money back and they say there is a cancellation fee. The moment you accept this they get to keep the majority of your money if not all of it having incurred no cost.
In my case they haven't paid be back one $ having taken $579 of my pension.
They don't respond to emails or messaging.

Unbelievable
February 18, 2025

It was a Saturday afternoon and my car died and needed a rental quick. So the only place I could rent it was TF Green Airport. So I went ahead and booked one as I was in a hurry. I thought hey what a great site. So I took an Uber down there. Then as I got down there the airport said I could not get car without a Credit card which was absolutely ridiculous as I had already paid for the car. So all of a sudden I am way down in Providnec with no car. I did figure something out and found a small rental car company that helped me out. So I emailed Economy booking and told them what happened which was an honest mistake when in a rush. They emailed me back saying that they won't give me a refund. So for a guy on Disability the 200 they stole from me his huge money. I mean it was a mistake. I really think they should have given me my money back. I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM ECONOMY BOOKINGS. READ THEIR OTHER REVIEWS. THEY SCREW OVER A LOT OF PEOPLE. I WISH I TOOK THE TIME AND HAD THE TIME TO DO MORE RESEARCH.

Blackmailed

We booked a car through this company for a 5week rental from Stansted airport. We contacted booking group several times before the rental to let them know that we were going to arrive at 4 PM instead of 10 AM and had no response from them but we didn't think anything about it. On arrival to pick up a car through Drivalia we were told there was no car as we had arrived late we informed Drivalia that we had told booking group about a later arrival, but they had no knowledge of it. The drivalia rep then informed us he would find us a car if we were prepared to pay the top insurance premium of £40 extra a day I pointed out to him and that was over £1000 in fees and we couldn't afford that he said therefore there is no car for you so we were left stranded at Stanford airport. Just to double check I then went on the drivalia website and discovered there was at least six cars available to book at Stanford airport but he would not give us one unless we paid the £40 extra. He was basically blackmailing us.
We contacted bookings group to tell them of our situation and up-to-date. They have done nothing about it, except to tell us that we arrived late.

My husband and I arrived at the car rental center of the Miami International Airport and were directed by BookingGroup to an area outside where a shuttle would pick us up to take us to the offsite car rental location. We called the number for the car rental agency multiple times in the course of 30 minutes to request a shuttle and the phone rang continuously, without an answering machine or anyone picking up on the other end. When we called BookingGroup for help, they also could not get an answer and told us they could not get another car for us. We were charged for the rental anyway. When we filed paperwork to get our money back and sent the phone records as proof as requested, we never got an answer and no money back. I do not trust BookingGroup to work with reputable car rental agencies and will not use them again.

If you book here you will not receive any confirmation email. All they send is an email with 1 button. When you press that button, money is immediately withdrawn from your credit card. There is no way you can get this money back. Immediately after it happened I called but with 0 results. I was within 24 hours of picking up the car and therefore not entitled to a refund. What they could do for me was send an email with where and how I could pick up the car.

DO NOT use this car rental company. They do not adhere to their own refund policy. I cancelled my reservation due to bad weather 72 hours prior to my pick-up time, well within their stated 48-hour cancellation window. Despite this, I did not receive a full refund. Instead of a refund to my credit card, I was given a credit. Additionally, a cancellation fee was deducted from what I had paid, even though this fee was not mentioned in their refund policy. To make matters worse, if I wanted the remaining funds transferred back to my credit card, it would cost an additional 60 euros ($65.07). Essentially, you have to pay twice: once to cancel within the 48-hour window and again to have the money transferred back to your original payment method. Look for a company that honors their commitments and doesn't charge hidden fees when you cancel according to their policy.

I had a horrible experience with these folks. I needed to book a truck for a trip as mine untimely went into the shop. I searched Kayak and came up with a vehicle with these folks. I reveiwed the rental conditions and booked the vehicle. I then get a confirmation voucher from Routes car rental. On the voucher it stated no local rentals. I called to see about cancelling or refund but they said I would have to go through the 3rd party. I reached out to Economy Bookings and have gotten only the run around. They did not address my concerns and only sent a form email on why you don't get refunds/credit. They allowed me to book a vehicle with a local rental place using local information and local payment address. Then refused to address why they allowed that and why it was not listed in the rental conditions. I don't care how cheap they are I will never allow myself to be ripped off again by this business.
Your response here is also deceptive. The terms were not listed under rental conditions. You have already change the layout on your page since I filed this complaint to now contain it in that section. But, when I booked it was not listed under rental terms and conditions. I know you have responded and I do not agree with your assesment that is why I have posted my concerns online for others to be aware of your deceptive business practices.

I booked a car to be picked up at Europcar in Alicante airport. On arrival Europcar told me I booked through the US? I am european... Therefore I had to pay an additional fee of 300€ which I refused. Now Bookinggroup threatens me and they will charge me a no show up fee while I stood there for 2 hours and nobody helped me. Thank you gangsters...

Rent a car for Miami International airport for 3 weeks
When arrive 1h to try to locate the renter
Go on the suburbs if thé airport and they inform us that we could not Go to georgia and we have to stay in Miami!
Never mention by bookinggroup what a mess for an international airport! Back to the airport we have to pay for an other rental'at budget and bookinggroup now REFUSE to give us back our money while they did not pay the rental either!

We rented automatic car, end up getting manual car with problem. Their is no way to get response/ support from any one in bookinggroup.
I am still waiting for refund/ compensation on all the problems that we had during our rental. 6 month has pass, and no way to get response from the company.
They have all my details + the complaint details, but does not do anything

The black day was on the 29th of December. Standing for over 1 hour in line for a car. It finally was my turn. The person at the dollar/Thrifty desk told me there were no more cars left. This has been 17 days ago. I stlll waiting for my money. I contacted them many many times. Don"t book with this company! I bought the insurance and still, the desk people still try to sell insurances that I didn't need or want. If they sell you insurances they get a percentage! That is why they try so hard. BookingGroup in awfull. They steel your money!be warned

This company may be the least expensive option but their cancellation policy and customer service is the worst of any rental company I have gone through. My flight to Nürnberger was cancelled the day prior to my pickup date and I called only to be met with a rude customer service representative who stated they could not give me a refund but I would be able to submit a request via email and rushed me off the phone while canceling the reservation. I paid in full and submitted my request for a refund with the email showing my cancelled flight. A week later I received an email stating how they could not issue a refund because them and the rental company incur a loss of operating expenses (though I cancelled 24 hours in advance). When I was able to get a new flight I tried to contact support again to see if I could reinstate my reservation within 30 minutes of the cancellation and was told they could not. I ended up reserving a car through Expedia, which was comparable in price and my experience was the easiest to work with. They also have free cancellation through your reservation time and do not require payment until you pickup the vehicle. I was able to cancel one car two hours before pickup due to missing my connecting flight in Paris. I was then able to schedule a new vehicle and pickup time along with child seat within minutes and it took a maximum of 10 minutes to pickup the vehicle once we arrived. The price was also comparable, only £30 more for the five-day reservation. NEVER go with Economy Booking, you get what you pay for I guess.

Not a good service

Very misleading wedsite, was redirected to an American page and offered the best deal although was completely useless as I didn't have insurance to drive the car. Been contacting customer service for the past week but yet to get even a reply. Stay away from this company because they're support is terrible.

Yep, they do make car reservations through their website. No, they do not follow through when the rental company - Hertz or Thrifty in this case - completely fails confirm your reservation through whatever faulty internal credit card reading system they use. DON'T USE IF YOU HAVE A CREDIT CARD FROM A MAJOR FOREIGN BANK BECAUSE THEY WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF.
