Great if you want to watch classic series which are not readily available, requires buying many boxsets o r you missed on iPlayer or ITV Hub etc.

They seem to be improving the app since launch. My only gripe is that they tag everything as HD even if a programme was recorded in the 80s on videotape. My only guess is that they upscale the content to HD but I'd rather know what is true HD. For example Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been converted to HD on Blu Ray as it was shot on film, but is the version on BritBox HD?

My mission now is to watch all of Classic Dr Who.

I had to close a previous account due to multiple issues. I closed it after speaking to a rep AND cancelled the subscription through APPLE. BRITBOX (NOT Apple) still charged me the annual cost of a subscription and the account is CLOSED a week after I cancelled it. No one will return my emails or my phone call. DO NOT SIGN UP. IT IS A SCAM AND THEY WILL STEAL YOUR $$. Disappointing b/c I liked some of the shows

Willing to pay but keeps asking for me to enter code on my tv moronic, who does their IT. Love programs used Apple AppStore to subscribe,
Works on iPad but need it on my smart TV without constant inputting codes.

Subtitles
September 20, 2020

Most of the time the subtitle has a problem: either there is none in the middle of the show, or it is not synchronised with the sound.
The system is very poor: hard to find previous episodes.

Scam IMO

Had to find a device that I could actually review my account details on first. When I could finally access them I had no choice to manage my subscription in any capacity.

Update on BritBox
July 29, 2020
Updated review

BritBox is becoming a good source for British TV.
1.) The only fault is with the navigation: We watch a series (like Father Brown or QI) and then 6 months later we watch it again. When we do that, the system won't update to the next show. So, when we go to "Continue Watching" and click on, for example, QI, the system loads the same show we just saw. This began when BritBox updated... maybe two years ago. I've learned to deal with it. *** As for finding a show and watching it, it's best if you know the name of the show and search for it. But most comedy shows are in the comedy section, however some are actually in the "Panel Channel" section. That's British for "Game Show"...
2.) BritBox is adding more shows all the time. The recently aquired the entire series of Death In Paradise and Father Brown. These were on other sites. But the power of BritBox is the power of the BBC and ITV. (It's a joint operation.)
3.) It is just British TV. So, no movies, etc.
4.) They are slow in adding some shows. Once the latest episode of a series is aired it can be found on YouTube. But not Britbox. Eventually, the episode apppears on BritBox. Now, if you watch EastEnders or something like that, BritBox does a great job of keeping the "soap-opera" style shows up to date. But for many shows, it takes a while for it to appear on BritBox.
5.) I have not tried to contact BritBox since my last review of them. But they were difficult to contact then.

Y'All must not be using a ROKU...
September 22, 2019
Previous review

I have been watching Britbox for well over a year. My only complaint is the navigation. It's very awkward. But I got used to it. Unfortunately, the recent 'Upgrade' to the site has made the navigation worse.
OTHERWISE, it's a very useful resource. I can watch the same show many times, or back up in the middle of the show to see something I missed or did not understand. Close Captioning is okay.
I did try to use the FIRESTICK from Amazon. That's Awful. ROKU has the Amazon Firestick beat, unless you want to watch Amazon originated shows. Otherwise, the ROKU is much better.
I just wish Britbox would fix their navigation. I am managing it. But it could use improvement.
What's more irritating, My browsers won't load Britbox.com because they have not upgraded their security info. I can't load their site and communicate with them.
BritBox has also fixed their website connections.

If you are thinking about Britbox, remember that it's British (BBC) and controlled by the government in ways that Americans don't understand. Unlike Acorn and NetFlix, which are private, for profit, corporations.

No 21st Century software
January 18, 2020

I'm viewing the 4 episodes of Midsomer Murders available of the latest season Britbox has for viewing. When I leave an episode and want to return to that episode where i left off or to start the next episode, here's what I have to do: on my WatchList, the series comes up - FROM SEASON ONE and i have to scroll or arrow through all the way to Season 21 at the end! Every time! Lucky it's only 4. I am so done with Britbox.

The number of programs offered are okay, but not great. Some programs only have the most recent season, which is pointless if you haven't already seen the previous seasons. The user interface is not intuitive, but I could live with it if it weren't for the BIGGEST issue... the absolutely MINUTE size of the closed-captioning/subtitles (when they're even available!) I can barely read them, and I have decent eyesight. What on EARTH are older viewers doing? Getting fed up, I would assume. The worst part is that one day they were average sized and the next they were TINY. Why? And there is no way to change the size. As a hard of hearing individual, I cannot watch television without captioning. I find it difficult to believe that if anyone at Britbox was even TRYING to pay attention that they would think the minuscule size of the captioning is okay for all/most viewers. It makes one have to scrutinize the captioning and miss out on seeing much if anything that's happening on screen, rather than being able to do both. SO frustrating and easily remedied, IF they cared to fix it. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or like/need to watch on mute with captioning, don't bother signing up for Britbox.

I subscribe to this via Amazon Prime. Except nearly everything I want to watch on "BritBox" I am forced to instead watch on IMDb TV or Acorn Pluto TV or some other means -- but not ON BritBox. All of these other services make me sit through commercials for programs that were commercial free. That was the point of getting BritBox. But instead, I am paying for a service that directs me to other services wherein I have to watch ads to watch what I want to watch on the service that I pay for.

I have had Britbox since July of 2019. I was happy with them until i had a technical problem. Something happened to my continue watching cue. It will not go to the next show for you, you have to find the next show to play it. When i complained they apologized for my inconvenience, and said it was a known problem. They were working on it. That was on November 14,2020. It is still the same only now they have not answered two e-mails I have sent since then. I will admit that I did ask them to prorate my subscription since I was no longer enjoying Britbox due to the technical problem. In business it's the little things that kill you. Looking at the reviews here. I see Britbox is committing suicide. I guess I will have to ask my bank to give me a new credit card so they cannot charge me again. It is too bad because their shows are great and i have really enjoyed watching, I have even told my friends how great the shows are. The no customer service attitude they display is very disappointing to say the least. If they could correct my technical problem I would keep them. If they would talk to me I even have a solution for them unless everyone has the same problem I have. The led me to believe only some customers had this problem.

Will Be Cancelling
August 22, 2019

I signed up for Britbox thru my Amazon Prime because I love the shows that are aired. However, you start binging and then you cannot watch the final episodes because yoi need to get Acorn (Poirot) so I got Acorn, and thay have one of my favorites, Miss Fisher. So now I have three subscriptions, Amazon Prime, Britbox and Acorn, low and behold that in order for me to watch season three I have to either buy the whole season or per episode. This is just another way to rip off the consumer, By the time you get all subsidiaries or per episode payment you might as well stay with cable.

Does not work
September 7, 2022

This service does not work. Attempts to access a program via smart TV bring a screen that says, "Error. Video content not available." The company refuses to refund the fee. This is thievery.

I signed up online, where the Britbox website required that the PIN have at least 3 of the following: Upper and lower case letters, numbers and characters. You MUST do this or it wont take the PIN, but when we went to watch Britbox on the TV with Roku, we had to click on Subscribe to try to watch anything, and when we did, we got a screen with our email showing as user ID, and a space to type in the PIN. Of course, there are no letters on a TV or Roku remote, so that is impossible. I went around and around with Britbox customer service, they put in a ticket for tech support which generated an auto-email saying sorry for the trouble with buffering, which has nothing to do with the actual problem, and we heard nothing further. After 2 weeks of waiting, I called for a refund as they charged my cc for a full year. They tried to say it was Roku's fault not theirs, but I said then how come other people can use it on Roku but not us. They couldn't answer. They said would refund - hope they do. Acorn doesn't have this PIN problem, so I went with them instead. Too bad, Britbox has some great shows listed, but no good if you cant actually watch them.

Fraud
June 24, 2020

Had an account with them and cancelled months ago as the content was rubbish.

Roll on to this month and there is a charge on my bank statement for Britbox. Contacted them and asked why they're continuing to charge me. After I confirmed all of my details they confirmed my account has been closed for months. However, they have then told me that the account linked to my debit card is a completely different name and email address.

When I responded to tell them this must be fraud as I've not authorised any payments to them other than the initial account I set up months ago they didnt want to know.

They responded to say due to the Data Protection Act they couldn't disclose any further information and to contact my bank. Thank goodness my bank have been helpful and understanding.

I expected more in terms of assistance with this issue seeing as Britbox is owned by two big corporations BBC and ITV.

If I could give you one piece of advice. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK DETAILS. Better still, do not sign up for anything with them. You'll regret it either way because the content is rubbish.
