I absolutely love this site! I can see the problems with it but nothing bad like that has happened for me, in my personal experience everything went right. Don't buy the premium though its wasteful. Just buy an actual chess set or use the free one, the premium can have a lot of things go wrong with it.
I have played on this site since 2021 and has recently been playing for hours almost everynight and has gone down from 600 to 200 or less now due to the SITE's MESSED UP IT not taking care of their end and blames the players computer and it has been already checked on by a technician. I sent numerous of Reporting players and yet Chess does not even respond back nor check any cheated play on their end but to mess players up so they can be frustrated and not be done fairly to enjoy the game. Chess.com needs to be BANNED from the website if this is how they HATE people to play on it as long as they get THEIR MONEY from people that's all they care about! Look how FAST I keep losing because their system is so SCREWED up. THEY DON"T LIKE YOU if you keep complaining about their site even though you get cheated said I violated them! I heard this system is happening from overseas and Eric A. (Pres) of Chess doesn't do anything about it. This site won't take my shot screen to show how screwed up Chess.com is. Again, I've gone down on 1 min play from 600 to almost less than 200 that quick in time due to Chess.com's site that is lagging on my end to purposely have me lose everytime when I played since 2021.
It's an alright site. I don't recommend upgrading to anything that costs money. It isn't that it is a scam, but it just isn't worth it in my mind. The website offers enough tips, tricks, and hints to win a game without having to spend money.
Once I got charged now game a analysis won't load. Lessons are ok but a little over my ability right now. Would be nice to see more openings and defense rather than 2 world class players battling it out
They ban accounts without reason. Glad I never bought a membership here. Had one account banned accused of fair play violation. Average about 80% accuracy with about a 70% win rate. Nothing that crazy. Just someone whos played chess a long time. I appealed that decision. After weeks I got a link to setup a new account. A couple weeks on that account, and also banned. Their site is completely unusable.
My child has been playing on Chess.com with a clean record for over 3 years. He does not use engines, and he is an honest person. He has been playing chess every day, and he always studies his past games whether or not he wins or loses. He then writes it down, what he should do in that position, and commits to memory. This has helped him play in some tournaments with almost no inaccuracies, after we ran it through the computer. One day, after he got a first place online trophy in his school club game, he got his account closed for "Violation of Fair Play." I really think that Chess.com has closed his account mistakenly. Help!
Biggest is not always best. Many bugs and often not available. Hard to use interface. While I personally obviously have no proof, but it appears the website is being used for commercial gains by a lot of "players", so there are a lot of cheaters.
Dear Teny. We have a strong anti-cheating policy. You can check it out here: https://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-com-fair-play-and-cheat-detection And the most important thing is that you can simply send a message to support@chess.com and we will gladly help with you anything. You just need to reach out and we will be there for anything you may need.
At your completely disposal.

I have been locked out of chess.com for quite a while now and don't know why. I try the reset password function and it says there is an email sent to reset, but it never gets received, even in spam folder. Emails to support are ignored. Anybody have suggestions?
They took my money for a one year premium membership and then closed my account after two months with no refund. They provided no reason for closing the account. They have not responded to multiple attempts to contact them about the matter.
I would not buy memberships ever again from chess.com in view of these unfair business practices.

My son loved chess.com and has worked hard to improve his rating > 2000 over the last couple of years. He recently won a chess.com qualifier tournament and got banned supposedly in breach of their fair play rules. He loves his chess and is not the kind of kid to be cheating - in fact he gets very annoyed about the amount of cheaters on the site. (I also happened to be sitting next to him during the tournament so I know that there was no unfair play involved)
They are interested in your money but have zero integrity and the tournaments they run have zero credibility - especially when kids like my son who are progressing and play well get banned with zero evidence presented from their side as to why they are making that decision.
It rings true with other reviews on here that it is likely the bots or automated systems that are incorrectly banning players and they are very reluctant to overturn this.
Don't waste your time or money with chess.com. There's so much cheating on the site and they just retort with made up numbers about how many cheating accounts they closed each day. It's meaningless. Most games will have the other player using a chess machine to try to beat you, or "occasionally" use the cheating so they can't be detected by the so-called "cheat detection." It's a sham and I would recommend against paying money to a site like this unless you really like playing computers masquerading as humans.
Look, I'm not a sore loser, it's just casual chess, but when I get to 1700's ratings and then go back to 1500's because I suddenly begin to lose to a bunch of 1400 rated players, there just HAS to be some bull$#*! going on. Either chess.com does not care about program users or they are in on something that stabilizes ratings for some business purpose. But my experiences is just not possible. Very bad chess site.
Hi!
It could be that you are playing opponents who have recently joined Chess.com so their rating is not a completely accurate representation of their skill level. If you would like us to examine any of your games to make sure that your opponent was not using outside assistance, please let us know their usernames at support@chess.com.
We would really like your feedback on Chess.com so that we can better your experience. Please let us know at support@chess.com if you have ideas about how we can make the website more to your liking.
Thank you!

Who do I keep playing a legitimate game of chess and all the sudden my opponent gets his king back. Or even worse, he inherits a second king. This isn't checkers. I won't be playing again. Probably some kind of bs upgrade to give you such a ridiculous advantage. Fix this crap!
Watching is sometimes problematic but playing, when not a paid member, the site will load tons of third party software onto your computer while playing that your pieces freeze and you'll most often be forced to lose over and over again even if you are winning. It's the most frustrating site I ever went on. It becomes more of a challenge to win in spite of the site working against you than actual enjoyment of the game.
Go find a different site. This site is a joke. They want your money, plain and simple.
I have won games constantly and then it just freezes with last move. So I don't win when I checkmate just a frozen game. The whole feel of this app is cheap and tacky. Serious chess players go elsewhere.
This bot forced a draw when I had the complete advantage, and said stalemate. I'm no chess genius but this is complete bull$#*!. I'm white, see screenshot, and don't bother wasting your time. It's like a bot who doesn't like to loose so takes away your win. The bot should have resigned.
Hello Monty, this is quite a surprising draw! It's clear that white is winning based on material, and you've played well to have so many extra pieces. Bots will not resign even in totally lost positions since many players prefer to play until checkmate, and it's good practice. This position in your is a draw due to the stalemate rule. This is a special rule where a draw occurs because it is one player's turn and he has no legal move, yet he is not in check. Since it is not checkmate and yet the player cannot make any move, the game is ruled a draw according to stalemate. Check out this article for information: https://support.chess.com/article/682-what-is-stalemate
In the position in your screenshot, all of black's pawns are blocked, and all of the squares around black's king are attacked. Black cannot move his king or any pawns, yet Black is not in check, so it is not checkmate. Therefore the game is ruled a draw according to stalemate. If you have any questions about this rule or suggestions for us on how to improve the new personality bots, let us know at support@chess.com.:)
Kind regards,
Customer executive response is like once in 2 weeks, they will ask for membership and once you have taken they will then close your account without any notice and not after closing your account. If you will raise dispute you will either get no reply or a very delay in reply mentioning as we don't accept your dispute. My personal details are yet to be deleted from their database, and when I asked for deletion of that I got no reply.
Hello Mani,
An account may be closed for violating site policies, regardless of membership status. In such cases, we ask the member to write to us at support@chess.com to dispute any violations. I have almost always faced issues of lags and then i lose out on account of lags. Of course there are situations where I managed to win completely lost positions on account of lags from the opponents side but that does not excuse these folks from taking responsibility. They accuse me of stalling when the issue is actually related to connectivity. I notice a streak of arrogance. It's not a site for any self respecting person
Hi Eminent
I'm sorry to hear about these issues with lag. We're working on server connectivity and reliability during these periods of unprecedented numbers of players. That said we can also discuss tips on improving connectivity and trying out alternate connection types, such as Websockets. For assistance with that, please write to us at support@chess.com.
Thanks!
Product has failed since their new version... have complained and complained and done all their million solutions but nothing works... I am paid up until September but they are ignoring me about my request for a refund... I want to move on and use a service that works but they want to keep the money despite it not working... After 5 years on here this is a nasty taste in the mouth... seems they are greedy fat cats after all... not a "community" site like they like to make out
Dear Charlie. I am really sorry to hear that! This does not represent the way we work. Please, send me an email to david.kaufmann@chess.com and I will make sure to make you a refund IMMEDIATELY.
At your complete disposal,
All the best,

Stay away from chess.com. It is loaded with cheaters. I have played chess in 40 years. I am 1600-1700 fide rated. And I can tell you. I have experience enough to claim that about 30 % av the users cheats. Most common is to make standard openings move, then the moves comes from like a chess God. When they have huge advantage, they start playing for themselves again, so that they can feel like it is themselves that won.
I can't even have fun playing chess. When I try playing online, I lose elo and can't go back to my original rating. I lose more than I can gain, and that discourages any new beginners to chess. That's besides the millions of times chess.com is trying to shove premium down my throat to support a website that doesn't work half the time. Like people want to learn from their games most the time
Team, I am a big fan of chess.com. I am not sure whats happening but the last three games I played were bugged.
The player on my right looses a turn, and my clock starts counting. Now am I able to make a move - No. This happened for the last two games and I lost points for no fault of mine.
I got snapshots if it helps.
Hi!
So glad to hear that you are a such a fan of Chess.com! We really appreciate it.
I examined this picture and your 4 player chess archive. Because I believe you may have ended this game prior to 4 moves, I cannot review it in your archive, however, from this picture it appears yellow moved to h11 and this was not depicted on your board. Your browser may be experiencing a glitch when updating the board to show moves from your opponents for Chess.com 4 player chess.
I would recommend you clear the cache to check if Chess.com performs better after all of the stored data has been reset. This article provides instructions on how to clear the cache in Chrome: https://tinyurl.com/ycg59c54.
If the problem occurs again even after you have cleared the cache, please let us know at support@chess.com, and we will investigate this issue further.
Thank you!

Today I played 10 games as guest on beginner and had the following results:
4 games - abandoned
3 games - other player resigned after 10 moves
3 games - disconnected after being a loosing position -- basically ran the clock down to the last minute and then disconnected
Site is basically garbage. Nothing the discourages slow play, abandonment, or just disconnecting.
With that said, the site itself is well designed.
This site allows players to abort if they don't like the rating of their opponent (too low or too high). This is completely unfair. Everyone HAS A RIGHT TO PLAY, regardless of their rating. Sometimes there are so few people playing that it will match whoever's available, and the higher rated player will keep aborting. So, the lower rated player isn't allowed to play. Rating means little anyway. What if they want the practice?
Same problem time and again some cocky git winds me up on chat I respond then they suspend my chat for violating their guidelines what about the other guy. This app attracts some real pillocks who give lots of abuse find another app
Hi Mark,
I'm very sorry if you've encountered abusive opponents. Please write to us at support@chess.com about your chat suspension and about the other insulting member. We'd like to resolve this! I totally get where you're coming from about being provoked by another player. All the same, we ask that you report offensive players instead of responding to them. We want to encourage a respectful and safe community on Chess.com.
Good luck with your chess
Hope to hear from you soon :)
For the past several months, it's infuriating to try and play short time controls at chess.com. Their servers are beyond terrible. I have lost countless games on time, because moves I play in less than half a second take over 4 to travel to the distant realm of chess.com's server. Even pre-moves often take over two seconds, instead of the standard 0.1. I don't know what sort of problem that is, if it's local, and I'm sure it doesn't happen to GMs in the site's much advertised death matches and live streams. I know it's not me, because it happens regardless whether I am playing from home or elsewhere, and more importantly, because it has never happened on chess24, where I occasionally play.
Chess.com is the largest chess playing site. Ensuring an at least decent user experience should be their first priority, but this huge problem has persisted for so long now that it seems they either do not care, or can't fix it. Neither option is appealing.
We are so sorry to hear that dear AI. Could you please send us a message to support@chess.com so as we can speak with you and make sure all the connections problems have disappeared?
Thank you so much for your time and sorry for all the inconveniences.
All the best,
The Chess.com Team
Too many unsportsmanlike players on this site. Moderators adjust ratings if reported but I've found that really not worth the time if you enjoy playing chess to learn and have fun because of unethical opponents
