I absolutely love this site! I can see the problems with it but nothing bad like that has happened for me, in my personal experience everything went right. Don't buy the premium though its wasteful. Just buy an actual chess set or use the free one, the premium can have a lot of things go wrong with it.
I have played on this site since 2021 and has recently been playing for hours almost everynight and has gone down from 600 to 200 or less now due to the SITE's MESSED UP IT not taking care of their end and blames the players computer and it has been already checked on by a technician. I sent numerous of Reporting players and yet Chess does not even respond back nor check any cheated play on their end but to mess players up so they can be frustrated and not be done fairly to enjoy the game. Chess.com needs to be BANNED from the website if this is how they HATE people to play on it as long as they get THEIR MONEY from people that's all they care about! Look how FAST I keep losing because their system is so SCREWED up. THEY DON"T LIKE YOU if you keep complaining about their site even though you get cheated said I violated them! I heard this system is happening from overseas and Eric A. (Pres) of Chess doesn't do anything about it. This site won't take my shot screen to show how screwed up Chess.com is. Again, I've gone down on 1 min play from 600 to almost less than 200 that quick in time due to Chess.com's site that is lagging on my end to purposely have me lose everytime when I played since 2021.
Chesscom is beneath contempt. Short after opening my account and paying an annual registration fee of approx. 99 Chesscom accused me of cheating (using assistance e. Q. computer engine) and closed my account. The immediate closing of the account was performed without any investigation. Followingly, the chesscom support was ignoring my emails. The only answers I received was that "I should reconsider my position", meaning that I should claim that I was cheating. After making it clear that I will be forced to take the legal actions and giving a deadline to Chesscom for returing my money or reopening my account, the Chesscom finally retured my money back.
The whole issue took over 2 months.
From my personal experience Chesscom is a bunch of hihgly incompetent self claimed "world`s leading experts" who cannot distinguish between a computer and a club player. Furthermore, chesscom treats the customer as a piece of s**t.
I can only warn everybody from this chess server.
Chess.com is a good website, it has a good UI, fantastic bots, amazing people, and a better rating system than lichess, but I don't feel like it's good. I have poor wi-fi, and chess.com isn't making it better. Chess.com should have an option for people with slow connections. My primary time controls are 3 min. Blitz, and 1 min. Bullet, but chess.com isn't helping me get better, or like chess more, but it's just kinda bad. Chess.com might make me feel worse at chess. The lessons are amazing, but they restrict it better. I hate lichess puzzle lessons, but at least they give me more than one lesson per day, and that's the least chess.com could do. This is all I want to add to chess.com's website, SLOW CONNECTIONS for people with slow connections. Why is it that I lost just because the internet at my school is horrible? It's not my fault that the internet is trash and people are greedy. At least give a draw or at least a chance to pause the game and carry on until the other person is back online. Could they just stop the game, let the other person play other games, then notify the other person that I'm online? Then I just wait to resume the game. Is it that hard to do? Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my rant about the internet, but chess.com is really starting to go behind lichess in terms of how much I like it, and I despise lichess.
Tip for consumers:
If you have good connection, good for you, if not, too bad. If you have bad connection, then just do OTB or use the bots.

I just reached out to chess.com yesterday because I noticed that everytime I realized I was playing a bot, (you can tell by the profile sometimes and lack of history). However everytime I played a bot hiding under a low rating only for them to use expert techniques in the final seconds to win. I believe they do this to keep ratings down so people buy memberships to their site and they can then hope to become a better chess player.
Chess.com doesn't let you block users though. If you block them you will still get matched up with any of their hundreds of fake bots that run all the time. It's not fair if a free member or a paying member wants to play a "live person" they should have the choice. And if they want to never play a certain user (regardless if they are real or a bot) they should be able to restrict that user from being matched up ever again and having their rating lowered (and simply time wasted). I reached out to chess.com help support and then today they just disabled my account with no response at all, all because I emailed them calling them out on the user blocking not working and simply asking them how do I fix it. Rather than tell me it's a real tech support issue they disable my account? So because I discovered their secret rather than find a work around they decide to try and hide my knowledge from the public. Forget them. That's so shady.
Despite having no issues with the rest of the internet, I consistently have latency & connection issues with this site
I also regularly notice my time 'disappearing' as my opponent gets the same 'lost' time
I also have issues with the site also constantly altering my moves
Unhelpful customer service, also got 'warned' for being upset for them cheating me
Stupid game site that is not up to date. While playing on this website, you cannot play (defenitely) the 'roque' move after a 'check' has been made and unmade on the opponent king...
DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY TO THIS GROUP OF A-HOLES!
I told them, you need to raise the bar and become more professional. Did those little boys do it? No, they kicked me off the site instead. So now they owe me $100 dollars because they couldn't handle being called out for their stupidity. A bunch of cry babies.
My account was closed with no explanation at all i really don't know why this is RIDICULOUS! I HAD BOUGHT MEMBERSHIP THINKING IT WAS A GOOD IDEA I GUESS I WAS WRONG THEY TRY TO GET YOUR MONEY THEN THEY CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT. CHESS, COM YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS OR ELS I MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE THIS TO LEGAL MATTERS.
Hello Jim,
I'm sorry to hear that your account was closed. Please write to us at support@chess.com and we can look into whether your account may be reopened. Even if that is not possible, we will of course refund the membership you no longer have access to.
Thanks!
I lost but my king didn't die. The game is hard to win, easy to lose and doesn't offer moves that would be allowed if you had the game chess. This game is trash, and not the good kind.
Hi!
If possible please contact support@chess.com with your username and we will examine this game to determine why you were told you were lost when you were not checkmated. Chess.com should have all of the agreed upon rules of movement for chess. Which moves have you found are not working correctly?
We would really like to hear more about these issues you have encountered on Chess.com so that we can improve the application. Please let us know your thoughts here or at support@chess.com. We truly hope you will tell us more about your experience!
Thank you!

This site is full of cheaters. Recently i played a game and was sute that my opponent was cheating. I comfirmed using lichess site. I imported the game. The average centipawn loss of my opponent was just 13 which is most of grandmasters. Any centipawn loss below 25 indicates the possibilty of cheating but this guy has 13 and he made no blunder and no mistakes. At his level players usually make atleast one blunder or mistake but he made none. Which confirms cheating
Advice - please dont play at this site as it is full of cheaters
Hello Kuldeep,
Cheating ruins what chess should be. Everyone deserves the chance at a fair game. We always invite our members to report suspected cheating, so that we can investigate as soon possible. Please write into us at support@chess.com and we'd be happy to review games that seemed suspicious. It's possible we already took action in some cases! For just the month of October, we reviewed more than seven million games and closed more than five thousand accounts for cheating. We're dedicated to fair play, and we want our members to know that. Furthermore, if another player uses abusive language, we ask that you report them to us. We want to foster a community of safety and respect on Chess.com.
Thanks!
The site is crooked and they, the administrators, are the cheats. They harass you to try an get you to buy their product; they build you up with wins then whack you with losses so you might think you would improve from purchasing their advanced memberships: Bait and switch. What you do not understand chess.com is that THERE IS NO HELP FOR ME!
My account, which had a premium membership, was closed 3 months ago. I have reached out to the support team about 3 weeks ago to apologize for what I did that got my account closed, as well as attempted to apologize today by creating a temporary account and reaching out into the Help and Support forums on the site. However, even though the only thing I did was used that temporary account to apologize for what got my original account closed for abuse, all that happened was that temporary account was also closed for abuse in the same day without warning, thus ignoring my sincere apology. I felt like this was unfair treatment, so I felt very hurt, because I was apologizing, not violating community guidelines.
I have tried other chess apps and sites and they're not the same because they don't have the unique features that Chess.com has, like the puzzle battles, 4 player chess, and being able to customize your own profile. These are the reasons why Chess.com was my favorite site.
I miss playing chess on Chess.com because I have met some great people and clubs on the site, and now I'm unable to enjoy what I used to enjoy because my account is closed.
I hope someone can help me here and give me a second chance. I am committed to following Chess.com's community guidelines and Terms of Service.
Thank you for your help and stay safe.
I was playing with my friend in chess and I am just a chess god compared to him, but we were playing rated matches so after me winning 4 times in a row chess.com banned me, with no warning whatsoever. Chess.com deleted my account and had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to create a brand new account...I tried to get my account back (I was ready to have the points I earned from those matches I had with my friend to be taken away), but no chess.com basically said to go f- off, so I couldn't even get my account back. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU GO TO A DIFFERENT SITE TO PLAY CHESS, UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR HARD WORK TO CEASE TO EXIST! The photos linked are emails that chess.com sent.
It was nice for my 9 years old son to play and learn from this place until they closed our account. We send the appeal to ask the reason why they closed the account, but they just simply said we get outside assistance. We are so sure we did not, but they said that we probably did not notice we did break the rule, and they would be happy working with us for the account if we admit we did. So I ask them to identify which part we did wrong because this is not about the account, we would like to learn a lesson for the future. But the director of support refused to say the details. His reason is that is according to the non-disclosure policy. I doubt about it because I did not sign an agreement like that when we signed up the account, I ask him to send the link of non-disclosure policy we could learn. He declined. I checked online from chess.com, I did not find non-disclosure policy, but I do see the fairly play, I asked him to highlight those we had a problem, but he ignored our requests and told us that we could move to other chess sites, and then never responded my email. We were so frustrated with this kind of support from chess.com. I need a follow up with this issue, not just because I paid 99$ for Diamond Membership, but also about we need to be clear what I have done inappropriately, and we could learn a lesson in the future.
Platform crashes all the time making you to lose games on time!NOT good at all! It appears that its from their server but still you have a loss on time.
It's all cheaters, bots whatever. Complete waste of time if you want to play a real person. They will "analyze" your game after you play against a "person" and tell you about a bunch of mistakes you made but will tell you what they are only if you buy something. YOU ARE WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME WITH YOUR SHADY SITE!
I love chess and this app looked perfect. Having opened an account, work summoned and it wasn't until a few days later I was able to play my first game. To my great surprise, I found that my profile had been blocked - with no explanation. I wrote to support who got back to me in a rather condescending email and accused me of cheating.
They told me that they would offer me no evidence (they were very confident in their "investigation team") but that if I apologised for indescration they would give me a second chance. This, I must note, reminded me of being drummed out of a fundamentalist religion for asking questions!
I held my tongue I wrote a polite email back asking if it was possible that someone else used the account (which is surely what must have happened) and asked if they might delete the account.
Rather than a "yes of course" or a "sorry to hear that" email, I got another off colour response pointing out that "It looks like the first game was a daily game played on the same day that you created the account"!
I had to put some thought into how to respond to this - at this point I felt more like a school child being accused of throwing the ball at the window on account of the fact the teacher now had *the ball* in their hands.
I have asked chess.com to delete all my information and I now wish to have nothing to do with them - I have suggested to them that they think about how they respond to allegations (with less assumption and more listening)... nevertheless be careful if you engage with these people... something doesn't feel quiet right.
I hve bad experience played with many cheaters at this site. They know a spcific key that makes the game ended as they won while the game still running. I faced this situation many times and I reported all of it but no one come to me and also I am loosing my points and time playing with cheaters
I am very disappointed and will not play here anymore if I did not get back the points I lost with these cheaters. Attached photos for my last 2 games
YOU ARE LOOSING YOUR CHRIDABILITY
My opponent put me in a stalemate. I could not move, so the clock ran out. Apparently, the program does not detect stalemates. Support can't detect stalemates either.
Tip for consumers:
Find another service. They interrupt your connection. The game times out in your opponent's favor, but your internet connection remains valid. The lost connection is apparently between their servers.
I've never won the opponent. The timing is programmed somehow on the behalf of the opponent. I do not recommend wasting time by playing chess at this site.
Good morning dear Amelia. We would like to apologize for the inconveniences. As you can imagine, we would never manipulate the time of any of the games. If you see strange issues, it could be because of the internet, the lag compensation and many other factors.
We will be more than happy to help you at support@chess.com
All the best,
The Chess.com Team
This looks like the best site to play chess, but it's actually the worst due to the most toxic community I've ever seen anywhere both irl and on the internet. It's a cesspool full of jerks.
1. Too many cheaters. I estimate 40% of the people below 1400 rating are cheating using databases for opening moves, computer programs to help with continuation in the middle game, and engines in the endgame.
2. Because there are so many cheaters. People like me who are between 1400 and 1500 are stuck in the 1100-1200 range wondering why we can't beat someone who is 1100 consistently.
3. The only app on the market that lets you move and premove illegal moves just so you can hear a buzzer indicating you can't move there. Why? It's a waste of time. We're playing on mobile devices. It's easy to fat finger moves.
4. The move confirmation button is over top of the back and forward buttons. So sometimes you can't use the button without hitting the back and forward buttons. And even if you mastered that skill, the move list is micrometers from the button so you can accidentally hit those and go back even further.
5. The GUI is glitchy and Over crowded with information that should be present only in review. You can tell it was made by people who don't play chess seriously.
6. Latency issues. I make a move it takes 6 seconds off my clock and my opponent makes 5 moves within 3 seconds. This is a huge problem.
I even caught someone that I suspected was cheating that got his account disabled in the photos. Even if they don't cheat the whole game. They will use an engine to get them out of a tough situation at any point in the game
This site has become yahoo games to me. I can see a future where there is no one there for the fun of playing chess but just to troll the people who are real players.
Hello Chris,
While cheating does occur, we have invested a great deal of time and resources into stopping it, more than any other entity in the world in fact! Here's a snippet from our October site updates ("Month in Review: October 2019"), where we also report Fair Play statistics:
Fair Play and Sportsmanship
72,429,634 games reviewed for Fair Play.
3,045,323 accounts reviewed for Fair Play.
5,263 accounts closed for Fair Play (three titled).
That was just October! We're committed to giving everyone the chance at playing a fair game, and while we're confident in our detection methods, we always invite members to report suspicious play to us.
Thank you for your feedback on the functionality issues. We are always incorporating members' feedback into how we improve and evolve the site. I just wanted to mention as well that if you are experiencing latency issues, please write to us at support@chess.com and we can work with you to optimize your connection from our end.
Thanks!
With or without membership they offer a very professional website offering the game of chess and expert advice, training materials, and an opportunity to play live or play a move a day game.
They put against their robots so you won win any games and so they offer you a membership so you can improve your tactics lol. Disgrace for real chess players.

The new UI(s) have taken things down several pegs. The features have been removed, and the usability is gone.

Hello,
I know it's been a little while since you posted, but I wanted to check in with you and make sure that you received a refund for your membership credit after your account was closed, since you mentioned in your review that you were still owed $100. If you have not received the appropriate refund, please send us an email at support@chess.com and include your account details. I will see to it personally that you receive what you are owed. No matter the reason for the account closure, we would never want to charge someone for a service they aren't able to access. That's just not the way we do business.
I hope to hear from you soon!
