Its really odd because its not clear what policy you have broken other than somebody just does not like what you say.
Especially if its protesting any racial or social injustice.
I was told after I heated debate with multiple facts and sources to back my argument that I was not breaking any rules but to stop speaking my mind.
After asking what rules i was breaking in a polite respectable manor, I was banned after being on for 5 years.
If you speak too much of the truth, they will ban you. Dont get too political as the moderators are not very intelligent and take offense easily.
They will allow many racist statements to go unchecked but delete non offensive statements.
Just not a good or well run site due to moderators.It would be great if not for them. Particularly JMT and YAC. Just horrible

Everything about their policing policy is privatized. You aren't able to tell what you said wrong until it's too late. Your content may get deleted for any reason, usually for the very extreme broad reason of "personal attacks", which could include anything from disagreeing with someone (literally saying "I disagree") to calling out an obvious troll. The mods expect you to worship them. They banned me forever... which is funny because I couldn't care less as I'll just whip a new username and account in no time. And just out of spite, when I'm ready to take a sabbatical from the forum, I'll be sure to send the main mods a PM telling them who I really am as a way to say eff you.

For years I thought City-Data was a good reference website to find out information about different cities. But then I discovered the information is unreliable. For example, a city whose actual population is more than 600,000, with a metro area of between one and two million, is shown in City-Data as having a population of less than 300,000. And a lot of City-Data's information is too many years out of date.

Don't post in their forums. Parts of the information you post will often get deleted without notice, leaving other parts out of context, making you seem stupid and silly, and you might never even notice it.

I would like to know the best website for information about cities. I hope it's infinitely better than City-Data.

I came to City-Data for advice about finding a job, finances, and teaching. Today I got banned for life because I was tired of the mods giving me infractions for every little thing while I was getting bullied left and right by a bunch of old school baby boomers in the frugal living section. I told the Mod to F-off and go get a real job. The mod then banned me for "trolling"

The people there are harsh and tried their best to somehow pick through my life from the small amount of information that I provided about me and my boyfriend. I was hoping for some sound advice. However, the advice I received was anything, but sound. The posters seemed as if they wanted my life to fail. They also picked at my grammar skills. City-Data is an informal board. Why would I write like I am in a college classroom?

I came for advice about moving into a cheaper place. The posters told me to do away with cable and that would save a lot than moving into a cheaper place. That just does not make any sense. My rent costs more than the cable. Thank God I came from a home that offers love and communication because if I didn't I probably would have taken their advice seriously. It is like the people on the site get a thrill out of speaking down on others.

Do not come on the site if you are young, liberal, and black. I have got into so many debates and arguments with people giving the wrong advice.

You WILL be banned for the most inane reasons. Every post will be monitored apparently and anyone can and will be reported for anything of the mod doesn't catch it first. Yes I am still a member have been one for nearly 10 years and getting ready to go on my second multi year sabbatical from them. I wrote the mods publicly in a thread this morning letting them know they are dismantling their own kingdom with their self righteousness. You cannot say anything there without it being taken wrong. Even when I asked a man who appeared to be contemplating jumping from a bridge near my home,, I just asked to clarify if he were really serious about this or just super upset for the moment and was punished by a mod about it as a personal attack. When I was actually VERY CONCERNED.

For you that don't know what Alt Right is or means, it's basically short for Alternative Right Wing. It's a collection of White Supremacists, tin foil hat conspiracy nut preppers, misogynistic sexists, anti government right wing militia nutcases, flat earth religious extremists, anti gay bigots, anti Muslim extremists, and run of the mill authoritarian Fascists. This is their playground. Mundane questions about what's the area around Cubs park like get answers like "It's liberal heaven, full of fags"

I am extremely confused by some reviewers saying that City Data is right-wing biased. I have never seen that, and my experiences have been the exact opposite. I have been banned, permanently I might add, because I posted facts about what legalizing recreational marijuana, and what illegal immigration, has done to my home state Colorado. Because these facts destroyed the pro-stoner and pro-illegal utopian types I was banned. Meanwhile there were leftist members breaking pretty much every rule on that site, including harassment and even death threats, and not a damn thing was being done about them. Every time I was banned it was by a leftist moderator. I have been banned 3 times now, i mistakenly decided to go with the 3 strikes motto, and every time I was accused of trolling just for stating actual facts and a different opinion. If you say anything, and I mean anything that goes against the far lefts views or opinions you will be accused of trolling and then permanently banned.

I've been a member of this site since '11. I recently got an infraction for "trolling" and a 20 day suspension.

My crime? Defending myself after getting ganged up on by a bunch of apparent dog haters in a thread about a mailman spraying tear gas in a FENCED in dogs face.

Animal abuse is one of those things that triggers immense rage inside me, I'll put that right out front. And when I read posts that condone straight out putting a "hatchet through its head" (this particular post was by a member named Soviet--and went undeleted), yes... I am likely to get a little blunt. Other posters were saying things like "I'd just shoot the dog" etc and I was completely appalled.
I posted that perhaps this mailman needed to find another job and was immediately ganged up on by The Clique.

They said horrible things to me that triggered not-so-nice memories of high school bullying so I left the thread when I spotted a thread about cyberbullying and found sanctuary there UNTIL the bullies stalked my profile and recent posts and actually FOLLOWED me to my sanctuary thread to continue to berate and pick on me.

I was expecting the mods to follow their own TOS, in particular the "personal attacks" definition which states that telling another poster they need "psychiatric help" is bona-fide criteria for which one particular bully, "LuvsArkansas" violated several times and nothing was done.

As a consequence I felt I had no choice but to defend myself against a bunch of posters that assumed they knew everything about me and continued the bullying until I was actually in tears. I left to take a break and when I came back in several hours later I found I'd been banned for 20 Days.

City Data is breaking the law by not only allowing cyberbullying but CONDONING it. I've never seen a bigger group of horrible people then the bullies on that forum.

Some of the forum posters are great (especially for my state). But prepare for a trip into 1984 if you use C-D. Moderators are psycho sometimes. It just oozes out of them. If you think outside the box a tiny bit, you get in trouble. It's really sick. I hear people complain about its racist mere rates, and while I haven't personally seen that, I don't doubt that its true... I have seen what jerks they are. Do not think they are all conservatives, though: I am conservative and they hammer me, for nonsensical reasons. Honestly, it's all just about the power trip. (The statistical section seems so-so. I rarely use it).
