“Best meal plan I've tried!”

Mariann B.
1/12/22

Always great food! I like how they separate the food into individual paper bags which makes cooking and figuring out portions a breeze. I also like the big card they use for each meal. My 10 year old and 14 year old's both can make a dinner from start to finish without help (although I do stay in the kitchen while the stove/oven is on;-).

“Cheating & Fooling New Customer”

Mohammed Azam S.
5/13/24

Cheating & Fooling New Customer Last week I have seen their offer for new subscription for $21.96 for 4 meals in a week, but NO WHERE they have mentioned that the subscription will be doubled from 2nd week onwards. They have charged $45.46 for 2nd week. After checking with their call centre support, he said that they have added shipping, handling, packaging, etc? So why its not been cleared in their communication on 1st instance only, why kepy all hidden and cheating/fooling customers? Pathetic experience

I will start off by saying I can in some ways appreciate what HelloFresh is striving for but in many ways, I think they're doing it wrong. I'll explain.

HelloFresh is essentially an online shopping market that allows you to order so many meals per week that they tout as 'home-cooked' and 'cheaper than eating out.' There's no debate that the meals are home-cooked since despite them sending you the ingredients yu must cook them yourself, but I have a lot of speculation that it's cheaper than eating out. It may depend on the person and their budget, though.

Moving on, each meal weighs in at around 1000 or more calories. Most are not keto-friendly and if you're seriously too lazy to go shopping or prepare your own food yourself, I doubt you'll bat much of an eye at that fact, but if the average person eats 3 to 5 times a day and your entire diet consists of high calorie and high carb food, well, I hope you have good life or health insurance.

Personally, I don't think HelloFresh is what's cracked up to be. I can eat much cheaper and healthier by just buying my own food and preparing it. Does it take longer? Sure, but at least I know I'll be able to see my ankles when I'm 50.

But as with those people that like to choke themselves for a good time, to each their own!

It started off great - fresh, easy to cook food sent to your doorstep. What's not to love? Apparently, a lot can go wrong. A few weeks in I receive a box with improperly sealed meat and vinegars, with juices soaking through multiple meals. Ew. They gave me $35 in credit for the trouble. It sounds ok but remember this for later. The very next week, I find a delivery slip saying I was missed. I work from home all day and no one rang. When I contacted customer service they first said I didn't have my callbox information but when I questioned how delivery were able to ring me on previous weeks they said "Yes, I see." but wouldn't do anything to help. They wanted me to go on my own time, 50-min and 50-min back to get the box from the Purolator office. Unbelievable. I know Purolator sucks but you chose them as your carrier - take responsibility. Now remember the $35 credit? I can't use it until I use up all of my discounted boxes first. So I'm really out ~2 boxes at the end of the day. "Smart" business plan but angry and insulted customers!

Wish that i could give 0 stars but I cannot. Just don't bother with Hello Fresh...

Great for anyone who wants to be duped out of some hard earned money! And I only signed up because I got the first few boxes on a discount - the idea of paying the full price for this rubbish makes my skin crawl.

The food isn't that good, the subscription model is the worst and cannot be paused or stopped easily (like the tell you it is when you sign up). Once you're in, you're essentially forced to stay with recurring payments every week, whether you want the food or not. There's barely enough time to change the recipes and for a primarily vegetarian person, there's only a small and boring list of options.
Oh and not sure what sort of deranged person wrote this recipe, but they tell you to pooor a boiling kettle of water onto dry rice... An absolute abomination, clearly they need a new chef to review their recipes.

Also this company claims to be an eco-certified B-corp whatever, however half of the stuff in their boxes is wrapped in plastic film/bags.

The only redeeming quality this company has is its customer service team, shout out to the Hello Fresh customer service team, keeping the company afloat at this point!

Took my money, despite me cancelling as they had NO options I could eat (Vegan)
Spent an hour disputing the charge and cancellation, only to be told you have to cancel 5 days before the payment, when my sign up was 1 day before and I cancelled within minutes of placing the order as there was literally nothing I could eat.
Then told Id have to request a refund via my bank
Rude and unhelpful staff
Just awful service and ridiculously restricted menus

I've had Hellofresh for 6 months (2 of them unintentionally).
Despite the pause and termination, I received packets that were also billed to me! I've tried contacting the support several times, but it leads to their meaningless FAQ each time. At some point, a lady called me and told me that they didn't have any problems like that. She also didn't want to see my evidence (email with a confirmation of pause and termination) probably because she herself knew that it happened more often... I never had any problems with the delivery in terms of punctuality. However, they simply increase the package prices and entice you with a 3-week free test, bull$#*!, you still pay the full price with a maximum deduction of 10%. Hellofresh clearly has good dishes and the individual dishes tasted very good. However, their system is almost non-existent, and canceling or pausing is a foreign word for them. I hope the support team understands my point of view, otherwise, I will, unfortunately, have to take legal action and sue Hellofresh.

I was looking for a meal service for my husband and myself. I looked at Hello Fresh first. They make you setup your account and osyment information before you can even look at their meals. So i did. I looked at their Neal's and knew thete was nothing we would like so I didn't pick anything and cancelled my account. This was on Dec 31st. I got a email about a bill for my first order. Of course they were closed down til Jan 2. I called first thing on the 2nd and they said the order was in process and couldn't be stopped. I said I didn't pick anything. Was told they picked for me. I said there us no way this order is in process because you have been closed since it got ordered. A supervisor was to call me and never did. Food showed up yesterday. Do not deal with a food company that makes you put in your payment info before you even get to look at their food

My room mate had been ordering hello fresh for about 6 months (he is NOT any more) In those orders there are cards for a free box for new orders. The card says, "claim your free box" & "give a free box" Go to, hellofresh.com/free-box... Etc. So I figure I will try out a meal plan different from what I have seen my roommate get. The fine print says, "may be an $8.99 shipping charge" "value of free box equal to $65.00". So I go to order a "free box"...my particular plan was UNDER the $65.00 limit. When I go to checkout, Not only do they want my credit card number with no explanation, But they also want $10.95 (what happened to $8.99?). Again, no explanation. I have eaten hello fresh with my roommate, It's just OK... Just OK. Right on the line of, "I don't know, is this really worth the trouble it takes... the meals are sort of easy, but not THAT easy (or fast) to prepare, BUT, I'll give a different type of meal plan a try".
However, I Despise being treated like an idiot by a company, being mis-lead and just flat out lied to. For me, this is an automatic deal breaker. My philosophy about this is, "If your company is truly a good value & high quality"... you know, It may not even be about "value" I will gladly pay for high quality as will most people. But when a company lies, mis-leads, however you want to say it, It tells me that the company doesn't even have faith in their own product and they think I am stupid and will just overlook the deceptive advertising. I am sure I am not alone in this feeling.

I would never recommend hellofresh to anyone. Aside from the meals being mediocre (I'd give 3 stars based on the quality and quantity of the food), the customer service is terrible. After cancelling my subscription, I got a notification a few days later that my box was on the way and my card was charged. Obviously I thought WTF because I had cancelled my subscription. After talking to customer service, they claimed that because I never received a cancellation email form them, that they couldn't verify that I had cancelled. So, obviously it was my fault, even though I had cancelled appropriately on their website.

TLDR: Contact customer service directly if you want to cancel your subscription because it SURPRISINGLY might not go through if you follow the online cancellation instructions.

Oh yeah, and the same exact thing happened to my friend. Guess it's not just me.

I recently tried to order what I thought were premade dinners for my elderly mother. Upon realizing that this is not what I was ordering--the information on the site was ambiguous--I attempted to cancel the order. The technological programming makes it very hard to cancel--it locks you in to a subscription. Having failed initially to cancel, I noted that I had until 11:59 the next day to cancel. I succeeded in cancelling around 11:30 pm and received notification it was cancelled. In following up to confirm, I was told that I was able to cancel the subscription, but not the initial meals despite fulfilling 11:59 contractual statement of the corporation. It required three phone calls to get explanation--the first two people hung up on me. This is a company that no doubt has designed a program to rob you and deceive you at multiple steps and does nothing to behave in a just fashion--it breaches its own contractual stipulations without apology. I suggest you avoid this corporation and look to services elsewhere. Unfortunately, they seem to be modelled after numerous others that "program" this kind of injustice and straightforward robbery under the guise of a multinational corporation. In the end, they simply spat on an elderly woman trying to eat--shameful to say the least. Zero stars is more appropriate along with litigation--ideally, in the form of a class action suit.

I was reviewing the Hello Fresh reviews today and happened to only see the negative reviews and I'm thoroughly confused. I have been using Hello Fresh now for about a year and only 1 time was the receipe card missing from the shipment. No biggie, I just went online and printed one out. No muss, no fuss. One time I received an incorrect meal but I simply adjusted and made that meal instead. I take care of my elderly mother and have to prepare meals after working all day and I love HELLO FRESH.

What a Rip-off! Yes, I fell for the Free Meals offer. What a joke, the so-called free meals are spread over several "automatic" shipments. The food was borderline spoiled, so if it was not used the day it was delivered, it was already going bad. I received the first shipment, three days later than expected, so I already had two days worth of meals planned, so was not able to use it until the third day, so the ingredients had already started to spoil. THEN, I notified them to cancel the next shipment, but the "automatic" shipment (for Two meals for four) went out anyway, and took three days to be delivered from the day it was shipped, then, sat in the hot sun on my front step for over 8 hours because I did not expect the delivery and was not home. They billed my credit card over $100 for spoiled food! I just love throwing away $100 worth of food. The meat packages were warm to the touch, had leaked all over the produce, and other items, there was no expiration date on the meat or other "perishable" packaged products, (like the tiny sour cream pouches), and when I requested to return for refund, they outright refused, and after many back-and-forth emails, they finally offered a lousy $10 "credit" on my next order. I WOULD NOT order from them if they were the only food available in the world.

Tip for consumers:
Forgot to add, that even if you receive a shipment you do not want, and attempt to just give back to the carrier "unopened" to return to sender... Hellofresh ships via UPS with a no return address, so the carrier CAN NOT accept it for a return. Your credit card company will not assist and issue a reversal of the charge, (because you are still in possession of the goods) ... Unless you want to pay $20-$30 bucks to return it yourself.

If you're interested in trying a service like HELLO FRESH, let me just warn you! I got as far as creating the account, but I didn't finish selecting the meals, and the next thing I knew I was being charged without even submitting anything. DON'T create an account because you too will be robbed.

I received a 3 meal trial from HelloFresh and the quality was mediocre at best. The vegetables were on their last leg and if all 3 meals were not cooked the day I received the package, would have been inedible. I paused the account for 3 weeks due to an out of town work assignment and didn't get back online in time to cancel it or pause it again online. I contacted them directly and was told that because my shipping label had already been printed, it was too late to suspend the next shipment. The product was still in their possession but they printed a label - in this day of technology, that constitutes their inability to suspend shipment? As I was out of town, a neighbor posted notes on my door and caught the delivery driver and refused the box. I was still charged for merchandise that was refused/not delivered. Their CS people are very difficult to deal with, their product is expensive and of sub par quality. I have tried other services like this one and both their prices, products and services are far superior. Don't waste your money!

Several times me and my daughter skipped a week and a box was sent anyway and were charged for it. You can put skip and suddenly later it unskips and you are charged and sent a box you didn't order. Tried canceling five hours past deadline and customer service couldn't cancel. It was 5am! Unless you plan on getting every week don't use the service.

When I first started this I loved it. The recipes were good and had no issues. Then orders started missing items, or have wrong items. I am highly allergic to nuts so imagine my surprise when my order shows up with nuts in it. Then the boxes seemingly just got more expensive. I notice how they offer discounts for new comers all the time but never for anyone loyal to the company buying weekly. And I got burnt out of this company fast. I started skipping a lot of weeks because it was too expensive and you can't cancel your account without jumping through hoops. Today I saw my account was charged on a week that I SKIPPED on the app so I called to get that resolved and cancel my account. The guy hassled me to try and keep my account open and said he could not refund me my money for an order I skipped. And even said his supervisor couldn't do it either…, after a couple minutes his supervisor now says he can refund me half my money back on this order. This company is complete bs… they don't care about customers, and the quality is barely 1 star. I'll never recommend them since at this point I feel they screwed me over!

If you need to cancel your account you can call them. There is no way to do it on the app or computer

I selected a delivery date for two weeks out and they are delivering a box this week. One hour and 13 minutes later for them to tell me they can not cancel it. Th order was placed hours ago and I chose the right date. The rep said that the first delivery often takes the first coming date, as if it overrides you- but they made no concession. They say a "label" was made and even though the box has not shipped, they can not/will not cancel it. It was being shipped to a place I am staying for a week in another state- no one is there and it will go to waste. They won't refund the money even after insisting it happens because of their system. What a bunch of morons. They paid a rep to spend that much time on the phone, and I am waiting for a supervisor to call- I am sure they won't. This is principal for me because my hour is worth more than the damn box- but I will waste their time to more than the tune of the money. I told them to pull the box and donate it to a shelter or someone- shame on them. Dishonest- Dumb and NO BUSINESS SENSE!

After signing up I called for some support. They were helpful and logged into my account to assist. Come to find out, the rep "forgot" to log out and changed my address when she was talking to her next caller. Changing my address without my consent is a huge violation!
After that, each week something went wrong and each time I called, I was met with poor customer service. There was no effort to "take care of the customer" but it was more "do the bare minimum and hopefully the customer will stay". I even followed up with emails hoping that an official written communication would prompt better attention. It did not.
Finally after I was done with this poor service, I cancelled my subscription. I figured I would send one more email review and hope something positive would come of it. They never even responded!
The one star is completely for the customer service and experience. In truth, the food was actually very good. But if I'm paying for a service, I expect to be treated with respect and like they actually want to retain my loyalty. But each phone call and email only served to reflect they do not care to put any effort into taking care of the client.
I look forward to going to a competitor and hopefully finding a better experience!

The site makes you think that you can fully customize your orders and shipping dates -- BUT they don't let you know up front that you will not be able to make ANY changes to your first order, including canceling it, delaying the date, or changing contents of the meals you receive, AND -- you can't see the meals that will be in your first order until AFTER you pay for it! It's such a scam. Who buys a product they can't see? What if you just wanted to check it out before deciding? You can't. What if you are going out of town and were intending to sign up and have your first delivery arrive in time for your return? Too bad. You gotta bend over and take that first delivery on their terms. Horrible business model and a great way to turn off new customers who are just learning how the subscription works. Calling customer service immediately does nothing -- they can't change it. They say that the fact you can't change your first order is explained in the FAQ's -- how lame. It should be posted right at the place where you are agreeing to PAY for a product you can't see before buying like a disclaimer. Scammers! I will never try this or any other meal service again after such a horrible first experience that puts the customer satisfaction last.

We have been ordering HelloFresh for years and almost always thoroughly enjoyed the variety, quality and freshness of the food. In fact recently HelloFresh emailed us to thank us for having ordered over 160 boxes! However, the delivery reliability has absolutely fallen off a cliff recently. When HelloFresh sends you an email on your delivery day entitled "Important information about your upcoming delivery", that basically means "no box for you this week". In the last month, out of the 5 boxes we have ordered, only 3 have been delivered. The other 2 just never showed up, The FedEx tracking consistently showed the boxes as never having been received by FedEx. When I called HelloFresh they did try to blame FedEx a few times, but I double checked with FedEx for our most recent missing box and they confirmed they never received it. HelloFresh has credited our account for the undelivered boxes but it is a huge annoyance to have to make alternate dinner plans for all those days that we planned to have HelloFresh. A 60% success rate for deliveries really isn't good enough and unfortunately I will need to start looking into alternate services.

Tip for consumers:
Reliability is terrible recently. You may or may not receive the box you ordered and it is massively inconvenient when you don't.

They stole my money. I received a piece of mail that said, scan the QR code for 18 free meals. I read the entire piece of paper and nowhere on their did it say that it was gonna take me and set my card up to auto payments. I scanned the QR code. It asked me if I wanted 2 or 4 meals. I selected 2. Then I build my cart with the meals I selected. It then asked for my card so I put it in thinking the discount code would be applied after. It was applied but only gave me a 50% discount so I canceled out of the app. Then 3 hours later my card was charged because the system through the code they send me had me setup to get auto meals weekly and I was charged for meals I can't eat because I have Ménière's disease. They didn't even give me the meals I had in my cart when I cancelled and the company wouldn't give me a refund even after I called and was told they haven't even started my order yet. What a scam!
