Hulu has a rating of 1.6 stars from 1,175 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Hulu most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and free trial problems. Hulu ranks 225th among Streaming Movies sites.
Hulu is a fantastic streaming service with a diverse range of content, including current TV shows, classic movies, and original programming. The ability to watch new episodes of my favorite shows shortly after they air is a major plus. The ad-supported tier offers great value, although I wish there were fewer commercials during playback
I've tried most of the movie sites and Hulu is by far the absolute worst. The website itself is slow and difficult to navigate. Their disabling of right-click makes it even worse. Movies stop at random places to load, ruining the continuity of the movie. And trying to skip ahead or back stops the movie outright for anywhere from several seconds to half a minute. You can't even pause a movie where you want because of the delay. Subtitles are out of sync with video on most movies. You have to pay to watch the movies, and then pay again if you want to watch them without ads. Even the free bootleg movie sites work better than Hulu. I tried their free trial so at least this poor experience did not cost me anything.
Hulu is pathetic.
They show ads every few minutes. The worst part is that the ads pause during streaming and you have to sit through the slow dragging ads.
Pathetic service. The day another service has the same shows, I'll cancel my service - WITH PLEASURE!
I signed up for a trial month. I called to cancel, was told it was cancelled. They have billed me $11.99 a month for the last 9 months. The wait time on the phone was an hour for billing. The Chat Person said she would only give me a 3 month credit. I was told numerous times theyd fiqured the problem out, and have not. The bank sends me back to Hulu to resolve. I have finally closed my Wells Fargo account to get rid of them. Insane.
They are raising the price $10 a month! Are you kidding me! I have to restart my tv 4 or 5 times a day because the system gets stuck. When I call for tech support they tell me to reboot my modem. I shouldn't have to restart my modem 5 times a day. I only have one tv on at a time it's not like I have gaming and computers on in every room. At least cable was reliable! Probably going to switch back to cable at least I can watch an entire show without restarting my tv
I signed up for a free trial, and put in payment by Paypal, which was promptly charged $12.63 at that point immediately, instead of when the 2nd month starts.
I called the number listed on Paypal email receipt. I explained this, and the woman said that's a matter with Paypal. I said it was Hulu that charged me, Paypal is just the payment processor. She repeated that Hulu would do nothing. I said that was ridiculous, then she hung up.
I called back and explained was just happened, and this rep was helpful. She said she would refund the money, and look for that in 3-5 days. About an hour later I received an email from Paypal saying I had a refund from Hulu in the amount of $8.41.
I will of course be cancelling in about days, and let them keep the difference of $4.22. And that's the end of using Hulu.
I just spoke with HULU, customer support, would not offer discount or credit, towards our bill, with had no power or internet for over 2 weeks, poor judgement, on there part, will look for other options, since they are pricey to begin with!
I called because I couldn't watch on TV and they ask me to download an app also to open my bank account when I refuse the guy told me that he is going to report me he was very very rude unbelievable. Then I told him that I wanted to cancel my account and he still was telling me that he is going to report me for what? For refuse open my bank account, then he pass me with the manager and he keep me more time on the phone almost 40 min with these people and they don't resolve anything, in the end I have hang up and cancel my account online. Horrible horrible service.I have to put one star but for me is 0 star. What a rude rude customer service.
I was never told live tv doesn't count for the no ads. The price for no ads is crazy. Hulu refuses to give refunds, even though it has not even been 24 hours. I contacted customer service to be told about the live tv doesn't count for the no ads. This needs to be loud and clear. People are being forced to pay this price without knowing. I paid over $70.00 for a specific show and this show doesn't even count. This company needs to be held accountable. I didn't get the free month because I upgraded to the live because I needed it to watch my show. I have canceled and won't be back.
I like everything but I wish they would go back to the queue. I don't like the new watchlist. I like being able pick which episodes to have not just what hulu decides to put in there. I like having full control of but goes into my queue. And being able to remove stuff as well. Please bring back the queue. HATE watchlist.
First off, you pay them, and you still get ads. When you want to add a network, there's nowhere to add them on the app. Tried to add starz and had to go to their website. And now I'm just laying for starz and it's not even showing up on Hulu. Waste of money
So, where to begin, how about I don't bore you with the history, the point is, even if you pay for Hulu you still get commercials, the whole reason we stoped using cable to begin with. Hulu is a lying sellout whore that makes you pay to watch commercials.
I subscribed to hulu for the sole purpose of watching the last season of Grey's. I cannot get anything to load. The interface is disgracefully outdated. I have lost an hour of my life I will never get back trying to load S14E1 of Grey's and then resorting to trying later and settling on a movie, which did the same thing! Thought maybe it was the beta program. Nope! It did the exact same thing on the original site. I am so glad they offer a free trial so I didn't waste any money!
I paid $44 and couldn't use it at all on my trip to ireland. Whereas netfilx was available, and $15 a month. And when i'm watching it at home i can't get through a movie without it stopping. Not worth the money.
Tip for consumers:
not worth the money
I used the free trial. It wouldn't continue playing the episode after I would shut my laptop. I would have to go back or forward an episode. Didn't renew when the free trial was up. Not worth $20/month to me.
I was charged twice for the same thing, in the same amount, on the same day. Got a rude response from Hulu's customer service rep. He denied that I was charged twice and rudely told me to take it up with my credit card company. I canceled my subscription and was informed that my subscription would end in about 4 weeks and I would have access to Hulu until then. However, access to Hulu was denied within minutes. No refund was offered, so I feel I've paid twice and do not have access to Hulu.
I don't mind the ads and the beginning of a movie and before watching trailers but why every 10 mins of a movie! And then the ads are way louder than you have it when watching a movie! They do this so you pay the higher price but not me I am canceling what I already have!

Took Hulu live and paid an extra $7 a month to avoid commercials excepting ESPN+ which was fine. I was watching a taped NCAA football game and I could fast forward past the commercials and when the finger was off the remote Hulu so generously took me back to the start of the commercials. I have 3 phone numbers for customer service and each one says we do not take calls go to hulu help online. Never can get taken care of with wait times that are absurd-e.g. You are 65 in the queue and above! Avoid this rip off provider-I am going back to Fubo when this contract runs out. Lies and promises not me. I also filed a BBB complaint and this seems to be a common practice for this company. They have under a 1.2 rating and that says so much.

Hulu is awful. The connection freezes all the time. I have called and called. It is common among their complaints. I have a internet connection of 150mbs... nothing is slow for me and yet I can't stream hulu on my TV... Ridiculous.
Have you tried to unsubscribe? You cant! They have your info and will not let you erase it. If you request to, they give you a web site that has Homer Simpson going DOH! And laughing at you. DONT GET STUCK!
Just wanted to cancel. Had problems logging into my account though internet, so forced to try to reach agent over phone. 45 min completely unacceptable and then agent asked me why i canceling, and then tried to sell me another service and then tried to get me to take a survey. Big headache just to cancel.
Hulu is... meh. People have already said everything that is wrong with it and I don't mind the commercials but, when your paying for premium you shouldn't have to watch ads. Hulu is greedy gets paid for every premium customer and for the ads that u have to watch... (the premium user)
Tip for consumers:
I'd say get Netflix. They aren't greedy and haven't had a problem. They also have amazing Netflix orginal shows.
I have Samsung smart TVs, and Samsung blue rays, the 5006 error code comes up. I did each of the troubleshooting steps, unfortunately multiple times. I am disappointed and frustrated in having to troubleshoot multiple times. I find it unreasonable for us to be the ones to troubleshoot multiple times. The app should update itself for the more updated tvs. There is no reason to have to pay for the app if it doesn't work.
I agree with other reviews that hulu plus is great in theory but ads are aweful. We watch it on the Wii and every time the ads start they don't play. You have to click the "a" button without it pointing at the screen for it to play and then you have to do it for all 4 commercials every time! I had also hoped for more networks to be on it. I wish you could find out what shows are on hulu before purchasing it.
Good for watching tv shows, but there are way too many commercials. And they're long, usually 90 seconds. I wouldn't pay full price for it, I only use it because I have it for 99 cents a month for a year.
I was watching a college football game and my hulu went off. The error message said I was no longer at home and needed to reregister my TV. Tried repeatedly but no luck. I contacted Hulu (which should be named Hulu-sucks) They told me I was watching on a mobile device. No I explained, I am at home watching my television. They insisted I was not but on a mobile device. I explained again that I was watching a game when this happened, nothing had changed. I was on my home wifi. They insisted I was on a mobile device. $45 a month to get booted out in the MIDDLE OF A GAME! I think this was done on purpose to try and get me to upgrade. Hulu sucks.
I was gifted $100. I added ALL 4 $25 gift cards at one time. Hulu billing is now trying to charge my credit card the subscription amount. Why? Because one of my gift cards MIRACULOUSLY disappeared from credit on my account. After spending 45 mins on the phone with them they ACTUALLY said it was my word against theirs because I hadn't retained all of the gift cards. They had also removed the transaction from my view in my account. When I loaded the cards I saw the $100 credit. Now the cards don't even exist. I my book... Hulu steals.
Tip for consumers:
Don't add more than one gift card at a time.
