Match has a rating of 1.2 stars from 1,207 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Match most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and fake profiles problems. Match ranks 652nd among Dating sites.
I've been using Match for about two years and I must say I'm very pleased with their service. They have a large user base, and the website is simple to navigate. I was looking for a relationship but didn't want to get hurt again, so I tried online dating sites. In my opinion, Match Online Dating Sites is by far the best online dating site. They have many users from all over the world who are very friendly and easygoing!
Match, "customer service", does not communicate. I was banned from Match due to something that my ex-wife did on their site. I had to investigate this. Match refused to investigate. They claim the right to ban without explanation. Ok Cupid is owned by Match. I was banned on Ok Cupid, as well. I had to contact my bank to have my fees reversed. They'll even try to keep your money.
Here is an email I just sent to their 'customer care' team:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Here are a few of my complaints.
1) Repeat billing without an opt-in
2) Automatically checked but unwanted extras when signing-up
3) No contact from other users except when I am NOT signed up
4) Change in repeating billing policy with regards to boosts and subsequence ‘top-up' of boosts when I clearly only wanted to purchase 10!
5) Numerous bogus contacts
6) No dates for over a year despite being a decent looking guy!
7) Difficulty in finding a support number and being cut off when you select the ‘cancel repeat subsciption' button
8) Inability to remove my credit card from your database unless I renew my subscription!
9) making it as difficult as possible to cancel repeat subscriptions.
It is #8 which concerns me the most experience tells me you are in the habit of using my credit card without my consent.
Clearly it is illegal to refuse to allow me to change or destroy confidential personal data unless I pay you money so now I am formally requesting that you remove my credit card from your database.
If you refuse to do this please give me the name of the bank and I will cancel the card.
Failing that I will have to track it down myself and cancel the card, but a modicum of help from you would be nice.

While there is no question some people are certainly legit and can find a mate, match.com is not all that it is cracked up to be. One, if you decide to cancel your membership they will often keep charging you for months. It might take a real battle to stop them from taking your money. Two, some of the people on the site are plants or the ads are fake. Many have pictures that look like models when in fact they are just there to draw interest. Some of them have been there for years. Third, you often will get emails/interest from people who are running an out of this country scam. They will contact you with fake letters in the hopes you will send them money. Fourth match does not provide the privacy they should. For example, match advertises on a cyberbullying site called Topix. The Topix site stays in hot water with attorney generals and the media for the horrible content of the site. Did you know that match allows your profile to be seen on the Topix site without your permission. That is ethically wrong and possibly even illegal but they do nothing about it. How would you like your profile seen on a site where crimes have been committed and some of the content has led others to suicide?

WORST DATING SITE ever. Zero dates or matches in a month compared to many matches and dates on free sites like pof. Most men on there have ONE pic and do not ever respond to a gorgeous woman like me - as they are 90% FAKE PROFILES! Only real people they have is 60 - 80 year old dirty grandpas. And as soon as I politely pointed out I was HALF their age and NOT interested in dating them. I got a HARASSING EMAIL stating I am off the site for "improper communications" and violating the rules. Excuse me? Is this Sex Trafficking Site and Match Douchebags think I am their property and they are selling me to their 80 year old patrons? They won't even refund the $90 fee! RUN fro this MATCH SCAM!

These strange foreigners from dating sites. How a descendant of a Napoleonic general escaped from me and why the ladies are throwing macaroni.

In the last 30 years, I have never had a breech in security on any site I have ever used. This is very dissatisfying on how the match customer service team handled the situation. The fact that someone was able to hack into my account with all my information out there and acting like its not okay by saying "its okay we reset your account and you can still use it". The fact of the matter is, I don't want to use this site ever and will tell everyone I know to not sign up for it. Customer service was poor, management is even more poor. When I requested to talk to a supervisor or manager or how it would be handled with my information out there on my profile, the answer was "well we reset it and you cannot get a refund but feel free to continue to use it For another month." I'll tell everyone to never use this site. I asked for a refund too due to the inconvenience to have to change my password everywhere and they said they don't do refunds and acted like getting hacked is a normal thing and nothing they could do. Do not use match!

I signed up with Match for 3 months. By the 2nd month I made sure to get on my settings and unsubscribe for future renewal billing. I did not know I was supposed to get a cancelation number. After 3 months I was billed again and went through to find a number or contact info. Not easy to find. When I spoke to someone she said it can't be refunded even though they know I haven't been on it since the 2nd month. Their customer service is in the Philippines and you can barely understand them. They do not care whether you are refunded or not. I asked for the supervisor but I am sure he was not a supervisor either. I have been unemployed just after I signed up for this service which is why I canceled it. NEVER WILL I USE THIS SERVICE AGAIN. They are the worst for customer service! I would give them ZERO stars if I could.

5 months and only one real. And I mean real person that I met. I Have concluded reading the profiles and looking at the pictures and the BS text messages that they create these profiles to make it look like there are real possibilities for a match. One in-person meet and EIGHT other fake text contacts that all want to know you before meeting or they have to go out of town and. Of course... need money to get back. I have reported the same picture but different name or city, the same profile but different picture. They are so glad you did but they show up again. The FBI needs to Investigate this company and that is not a joke. Most profiles are not members but they can like and never communicate. This is true of most of these sites and they are also owned by match. Question is where are they getting the pictures? Was that once somebody who went on their site and they are using them in another fake profile in another city? A real person who pays for this site wants to meet you and see if there is a connection. This is such a scam they need to be shut down and all their data that they have collected on everyone be deleted

I Really have nothing against Match.com, truthfully! It's very nice to have something out there, to help you meet people, as I don't get around that much. You probably can and have met, some very real people out there whose intention are pure and good! BUT, I swear some of the guys I have met and communicated with are JUST OUT FOR A GOOD TIME. IT"S JUST A LEGALIZE PIMPING site. A whole lot of low life characters, who are using this to there own advantage, NO STRINGS ATTACHED. I am hurt, NOT to mention afraid of some of these characters REALLY! I might not meet as many people on my own, BUT, I have a whole lot more going for me, than theres users! I really hate to say this, But unfortunately it seems true.

The idea is that you are paying money for top notch service right? Okcupid is free and operates with a better format. I imagine any other dating site has a better format because Match.com is horribly laid out. On top of that, they are more set on getting your money than actually being a dating site. Figure this out after you bought a membership? Hope you figured it out before sending a message, or NOPE, NO REFUND. So basically, they sell you a $#*! service and then when you quickly realize they have done so they won't refund your money because you used their $#*! service which you wouldn't have known was $#*! till you used it. Then you are stuck with how ever many months you paid for. They are nice enough to cancel your auto renewal though. Let that sink in. "Hey, we are keeping your money even though you are clearly dissatisfied with us on an operations level and what we provide, but I tell you what, we won't automatically take more of your money like we were going to". Shady as $#*!.

My friend and I both joined Match and within one day we had over 100 or more views and likes. Wow was this exciting until we started getting messages from Canada, men 4 hours away and out of state profiles. We live in Michigan! A lot of creeps asking for your number, money, sex, and willing to relocate to be near me even though we had not met yet. I am 62 years old not bad looking for my age and Match matched me with younger men who wanted to have babies! I reported several for suspicious behavior and even received messages from Match warning me of some who had contacted me. They send a like but are not able to send you a message unless they pay a fee. I message them and no response back. The last one I agreed to meet half way for lunch. During lunch he told me he traveled 2 hours to stalk me in my town. During lunch he said he wanted a woman for sex and when I got up to to leave the resturant he said the $32.00 bill was pricey and ask me for money. On Match everyone is a match even if your religious and he is an Atheist! I only joined because Match offered me half price. This site is a poor place to meet nice people. They show the same old guys over and over. Getting in contact with Match is totally impossible! Run!

They make it very difficult to cancel, and they try what they can to make it impossible for you to quit. Their cancellation page shows a cancel button, but that's to cancel the auto-renew, not the subscription itself. Upon thinking I had canceled the actual subscription, I found out that I got charged for a renewal when my membership period was over. It triggered a 68$ charge, which caused an overdraft in my checking account, so it cost me an additional $35 overdraft fee. Upon calling to get the $68 back on the first business day after the charge happened, they claimed that I only canceled the option to renew automatically. What a scam! If you look at the cancellation page, the cancellation process is clearly misleading.
Now I'm trying to call them up to at least get some of that money back, and they want my member ID. So I go to my match account to find it... surprise! Can't find it! The phone prompt says go to the help screen, top right hand corner. NOT THERE. A search on their help page for "member ID" yields a dead end. I'm upset with this company and recommend you steer clear of them. There are plenty of ways to meet people without getting taken for a ride...

No customer service, auto billing if you don't change that they take your money, and when you ask to speak to someone they say that its corporate and they will contact you via email. When asked for who is in charge would only say I can give you email and then as I waited for it, they hung up phone. I was quite respectful and I think the hangup is only meant to stop people from emailing them. BOTTOM LINE, DONT USE MATCH. IF NO STARS WERE CHOICE I WOULD HAVE DONE THAT

Needs improvement on their system app, the support should be active all the time specially after payment processed most of the time you can speak with the bots only or auto response

I wasn't even on match for a week and I got scammed. I contacted them immediately to cancel my membership and a refund. Well membership is canceled but no refund. They said since I used it I wasn't eligible for a refund. If I didn't use it I wouldn't have gotten scammed. Be very careful if you decide to join.

I signed up on 12/28 and on 1/29 i tried to cancel. Their tech system is so bad that the button to cancel did not work. I called the same day and they were closed since i am in Ca. And they are Dallas time zone. They could not give me a Refund even though it was their fault. THEN I thought to myself: "Maybe i should try this anyway and 'go for it'". Well, there were more and more tech problems. I got interest in my email but when i wanted to contact the men, the EMAIL HIM button did not work. I spent 51 minutes on the phone with a tech person to tell me that i should use Explorer and not Mozilla and that i should go to Match.com website to my account to respond and not use my email :( And even then, nothing worked. I sent a Certified letter for a Refund based on my first desire to cancel within 24 hrs. Which did not work online and they refuse to give me a Refund. That company sucks big time. I am going on EVERY Review site possible to give them a 1 Review. What a waste of my hard earned $130. I should have done my research and read the other Reviews. I think they have a rating of 1.7. It should be ZERO.
Tip for consumers:
DO NOT USE MATCH.COM EVER.

Very expense. You are immediately overwhelmed by fake profile contacts and phishers. They become very easy to identify, they all have basically identical scripts they seem to follow and they all have the same grammatical errors. You are drowning in them. You contact their customer service who says sorry, but you responded to one so now you cannot get a refund because you used the site. THIS SITE IS A RIPOFF - DO NOT USE IT
Tip for consumers:
do not even bother with this site

My 1st personal add was in a newspaper 23 years ago where I met my wife. I am a widower. I passed on her add twice, she answered my add. I proposed at the end of our 1st date. Never regretted it for 1 single second. They do work.
But you will only get out of it what you put into your profile. The more you put into your profile, the more careful you have to be. The sites have one purpose, separate you from your money. If you get a full subscription with all the frills, your experience will probably be a good one. If you try to use a "bargain" subscription, everything is geared to get you to upgrade. Be aware going in.
I started with Match.com and then switched to Zoosk. They both work basically the same way. Zoosk seems a little more determined to separate you from your money. Match pays a lot less attention to who uses their site. I got many more "ladies of the night" and scammers on Match than I do on Zoosk. Neither on pays much attention to your "preferences" in "matching" you to some one else.
I would like to extend a strong caution to the women. From the stories I hear, the scammers and men cheating on their wives is much worse for you. BE CAREFUL. There are good men out there (like me) but the people working the scams and hookers are extremely sophisticated and, I believe, are doing psychological profiling to target individuals. I put a lot into my profile and it makes me an easy target. I have had 2 hookers admit that they had been coached on how to approach me. But if you are like me, this is the only way of meeting anyone, JUST BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.

This site and its customer service don't deserve ANY stars! My account was set for auto renewal. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a life. I don't remember what my renewal date is. So, when $120 was withdrawn from my account without warning, I got ticked and contacted customer service. Why is it so hard for Match to send an email a few days ahead saying your subscription is about to expire and they will be taking X dollars out of said account? Other sites do it so I know it can be done. Then I complained about how they have this stupid 6 month free guarantee. I'd been on the site for 18 months with no results. So while apparently I was not eligible for the 6 month guarantee, they refunded the entire $120 they charged me. So, what's wrong with that, you must be wondering. Well, they ERASED MY PROFILE! When I try to login I get a message saying 'this profile has been resigned.' Even a non-paying member can have a profile. Why the HELL did they erase mine? I have been a paying member on and off of Match for the better part of 10 years. I've met 2 of my boyfriends on there, but I have seen customer service decend into the bowels of hell over the years. They have cut off their nose to spite their face. I will now NEVER renew my subscription, EVER with this company. I'd rather flush my money down the toilet.
Tip for consumers:
Run, run FAR away!

I had a one month subscription and wanted to turn off the auto renew because I knew I would not want to sign up again, but when I tried to cancel something came up stating I could get 3 months for the price of one, so I clicked on it to see how much it would be (I'd forgotten how much I paid for the 1 month). Nothing came up to show me how much and I was still on the same screen, so continued my cancellation. Later I got an email stating I'd signed up for 3 months. Which I did not. I emailed countless times to no avail... I got no response. Since they are closed by the time I got off work, I called on one of my days off. I was told by the rep that I would be refunded for the 3 months which was supposed to be from September to November. I'm still on the site and they will not respond to my emails. Yesterday, I got an email that I was charged for another 3 months when this 3 month subscription hasn't even expired yet. More emails with no answers. Match.com is not great as far as matches (they kept giving me Canadian profiles to look at), and their customer service is horrible. Not to mention, this is not the first time this I was charged when I shouldn't have been. I should have learned my lesson the first time.

Please please please never use Match.com they will ask you to sign up for a guaranteed 6mo membership and make you believe you will get an additional 6 months for free! This is what I did - giving up $150 CAD was a hard decision in itself, but then 6 months later, there is another $150 charge! I was horrified - that is $300 total in one year. It is days away from Christmas and now I will have to make sacrifices in purchasing gifts for family. I only met two men and I was disgusted by their demeanor. THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY! They offered to charge me $60 USD for ONE MONTH in exchange for the 6 months. Who in their right mind wants to pay $60/mo to be abused?
For all of the bullying and forum and verbal abuse I have been subjected to on that site, I am in tears to know that it has cost me both financially and mentally.
Tip for consumers:
They do not refund, they sign you up for auto renew with no reminder. Misleading membership options
