“I've been using Match for about two years and I must say I'm very pleased with their service.”

Cemile M.

I've been using Match for about two years and I must say I'm very pleased with their service. They have a large user base, and the website is simple to navigate. I was looking for a relationship but didn't want to get hurt again, so I tried online dating sites. In my opinion, Match Online Dating Sites is by far the best online dating site. They have many users from all over the world who are very friendly and easygoing!

“Match and OkCupid”

Paul W.

Match, "customer service", does not communicate. I was banned from Match due to something that my ex-wife did on their site. I had to investigate this. Match refused to investigate. They claim the right to ban without explanation. Ok Cupid is owned by Match. I was banned on Ok Cupid, as well. I had to contact my bank to have my fees reversed. They'll even try to keep your money.

Match has lost my business and its reputation due to my horrible experience! Not only do they not monitor their website but they do not monitor what people post as their picture! I was suggested to talk to a guy who's main photo was a close up of his $#*! and balls! When I made a complaint to customer service they took a week to respond and only responded after my second email! ( they say they respond within 48 hours) they sent me a pre written response that did not address anything forcing me to email them a third time. I kept demanding a supervisor call me and listed my number. Then Sara M. Began emailing me and was not apologetic for the poor customer service. Instead kept making excuses and saying it is the customers responsibility to keep following up. They obviously we're not going to respond to my first email because they had marked it as resolved even though no one had ever contacted me! (I noticed this before I had sent my second email) Sara M. Said I was lucky enough to even receive a refund and then refused to help me any further! She never called me like I had requested several times nor even brought up any reason why she refused to call me. (hence the reason why I wanted to deal with a tea supervisor!) they did not understand my frustrations and refused to offer me any type of free membership. Instead, she had he nerve to try to sell me 6 months of match... Why would I want to give you more money when you haven't done anything to earn my trust back?! Match has absolutely lost my business. All they had to do was offer me a few months free membership and I would have given them another chance!

Loads of fake profiles of people asking you for money.

Racist and rude people on here. Customer service does nothing about. Would not refund me my money when I asked for the harassment I was getting.

Also their daily matches are opposite of what your specifications are.
WARNING TO WOMEN: most men on here that contacted me were in their 40's or older. I am 28 and my age specification was 28-35 but they ignored it. What is most DISTURBING is that I look like I am barely 18. I am disgusted with this site, it's members, fake members, rude men that expect you to go out with them because they just said HI.

MEN ON HERE ARE full of themselves, thinking they deserve whatever they want. They are RUDE and they all want young women who have money, fit body and easy going, love to travel. FYI: I am slender, young, successful but disgusted with the men on here who want perfection and expect to give nothing in return for it.

NOT FOR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR A LONG-TERM COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP. I find most men on here want sex and companionship, forget marriage or kids, this site IS WORSE THAN PLENTY OF FISH.

RACIST site, discriminates against non-caucasians. Numerous times I have been called exotic. EXOTIC is what you call an ANIMAL FROM THE JUNGLE. Not someone born and raised in the same country as you who only speaks english.

Customer service does a poor job when people report each other. I've been threatened my profile would be taken down for responding to mens rude comments by kindly asking them not to contact me when THEY were the ones harassing ME.

Tip for consumers:

Match.com engages in discriminatory business practices, based on gender. Male (and almost exclusively only male) customers are often reported by other users or my match.com employees for "verbally harassing" other members, even when they do not communicate with other members at all. While other members' reporting may be simply a trolling or revenge practice (resulting from a lack of interest received from male members), match.com employee reporting is a practice directly supported by the company itself. One of the most active corporate-sponsored scammers works under the name "Tony E.".

Following the completely fake, unfounded accusation(s), the merchant terminates the unsuspecting users' account, without looking into the facts or giving any explanation, falsely citing the male user's supposed behavior, while providing no evidence whatsoever, of it. The merchant hides behind its reference to "privacy policy" and typically gets away with wrongfully terminating the account with zero explanation or proof of alleged activity given.

The merchant then collects the funds for partial or no service rendered, as the terminated member does not get reimbursed for the remainder of the the original, pre-paid subscription term, often at a value in excess of hundreds of dollars. The customer service center refuses to answer inquiries from the wrongfully terminated member, hangs up on the caller, states that it has no relationship with the corporate office itself, which supposedly decides over investigation or cancellations. The only step it recommends is to email the corporate office - but the corporate office refuses to respond to emails altogether.

Curiously, though, this scamming practice includes the invitation of user to open up another, brand new account, effectively paying again for the already-purchased service.(!) Very well organized scam with a well-established brand to cover it.

The above findings have been thoroughly documented, and the documentation is now being used in support of a lawsuit by the legal representation of three members, one of which is the author of the above review.

Folks - I dabbled with Match.com for three months also and managed to get them to shut off the billing, but I understand how it can stay under your radar. There is a simple solution to this, for this site and anything else you want to control with internet purchasing. My banker clued me in. All you do is:

A) create a separate checking account, with one c. C. tied to it
B) keep just enough money in there to pay for the one-time (or whatever) thing you're charging against it. Make yourself email reminders for when something is supposed to come due and re-bill and just empty the account enough so the billing will fail.

My banker does this himself. Since many of these dating sites have overseas billing, most banks (Umpqua Bank anyway) have trigger alerts that will automatically lock the card and reject the purchase if it's a first time / unknown vendor, or, if you've cleared the vendor with your bank/card and they try to hit the card again with no money, it will fail, and as they will auto-repeat the billing attempts, continued failures will tell their system to give up.

It may seem like a hassle to set up a distinct account just for internet, but it makes a lot of sense. All these banks have online banking now where you can transfer money between account easily and it's easy to manage, I've been doing it for awhile now If a lot of people get wise and start doing this, these greasy sites will start cleaning up their billing machinery. At the least, they won't get your money. It's just plain dangerous to have hard-to-reveal vendors hitting your main bank account. Treat them like the <insert label here> that they are. Good luck.

OK so here it is... I have been on many sites and there are pluses and minuses. I started at Match and went back as many do... However, here are the major drawbacks as I see them.

1) The women are spoiled on there. Meaning there are so many guys on the site that the women get buried in requests and they become so picky that they are mainly looking for reasons to NOT meet you instead of reasons why you might be worthwhile. I had one woman admit that to me.

2) Many of the women are unrealistic. Many women seem to think because of all the attention they get that they are more amazing then they are and probably pick the wrong guys to actually meet (smooth players) and then get disenfranchised and become impossible to connect with.

3) Many of the women lie... I have heard the men do too. I put the truth on my profile... about my age and my photos were very accurate but I can tell you the 70% of the women I met did not look nearly as good as their photos. A huge number lie about their age as well and I hear the men do too.

I get the lying about your age thing because it eliminates you out of a search group and everyone wants the youngest best looking person they can find but it is very unproductive and wastes a lot of time.

4) Also after a year I kept seeing the same women in my search parameters and I have either met them or they blew me off by then. LOL

5) One more thing, there is a way you can hide your profile where only women you contact can see your profile... There is an extra charge for this but it is well worth it, otherwise you get constant emails from women outside anything you are interested in... if you just want attention it is fine but it also wastes a lot of time.

Notes:

Put on your bullet proof emotional vest and don't take anything too personal. It is the coldest hard core situation... at first I felt bad not answering emails and felt badly when mine were ignored... DON'T! It is a DOG EAT DOG world on Match.com

Match needs to put some sort of verification processes in place regarding appearance and background.

All in all I think there are too many guys chasing too few women on the site.

DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE YOUR $$. I will continue to repost this to everything that has to do with Match.com to get the word out to everyone possible to save them the pain of my situation. I unsubscribed to them 2 or 3 years ago, but I checked the card I had used and they are still charging me for this. It was a card I hardly ever use and the only reason I checked it was because I had returned an item I had bought online for a Christmas present and wanted to make sure that it was credited to my account. That was on November 25,2015. Today is Dec. 29,2015 and I am just now getting in touch with them. I was told they would cancel it again, but would not refund me any of the money. It only comes out 1X a year or 1X every 6 months because I don't see it being done each month, but I haven't ever logged onto the the account in that amount of time. I did try to log on to check after I saw the charge on my credit card and the site told me I needed to subscribe. So if I need to subscribe, why are they still taking money out? This is the most disreputable company I have ever heard of and it has been nothing but a hassle to deal with them. It's less painful to have a root canal and NO supposed love match can be worth this horrific hassle, and I haven't met anyone that it has worked for anyhow- I've heard of more successes on Plenty of Fish (the trashy site) Stay Away from Giving Them Your Card Number

I want to express my absolute disgust towards the customer service department of Match.com. Users beware - if you do not take your account off of auto-renewal for billing, you will be charged and denied a refund. I called a few days after I discovered a new charge on my card because I never got a notification that my account was about to expire and apparently they put you on auto-billing when you first sign up for 'convenience so there are no lapses in service', which is really their sneaky tactic of charging you since they know not many people read fine print or will bother to change it. I spoke to three different account representatives, including someone at their corporate office and they were unwilling to help me in any regard. All they tell you is 'unfortunately, there's nothing we can do' like they are reading off of a script. What they are really saying is that, 'I am not going to put any effort into helping you fix this situation because you are not important to me'. This is the most frustrating experience I have ever had with a company, let alone a company that acts like they care about your personal happiness.

Then they sent me a customer service survey, which expires after 3 days, so now I am no longer able to give my feedback because that window has passed, so instead I'll publicly let people know how I feel. They also have horrible customer service hours (I live on the west coast) so they are closed by the time I get off work, and now they've even cancelled my account so that I am not able to use it - but they're keeping my money! If they are not going to refund my money, then they do not have the right to cancel my account.

This is an absolute scam, and they are crooks who need to be stopped. I have seriously never felt so disrespected and appalled at how heartless a corporation can be. You can bet I will be sharing my story with everyone I know and who will listen, because as a professional who has worked in customer service, marketing, and management - I know this is not how you do business or retain customers, and I do not want to see anyone else treated this way in the future.

Tip for consumers:
Do not use this company's website unless you want to be treated like a non-human. If the relationships they advertise are anything like their business ethics, this is not a company you want to be involved with.

I've used Match before with no problems. However, this time I got stuck paying for a 6 month membership that should have been free. I followed the requirements for each month and accepted free 6 month renewal. Unfortunately, I did not check my credit card statement until months later to find they charged me full price for the renewal. I called several times and was given different answers why. First, they said you need to call or email the site to say you want the extention which is garbage. 1) It had never been that way before 2) It does not say that in the FAQ 3) You need to do a thorough search of the internet to even find a contact number, match.com's site only has an email option. So after giving me the run around with that, I was told I needed to choose the premium plan and not basic. I told the representative I was looking right at the requirements on the page and both plans contained the guarantee. The final excuse was it was longer than 30 days since my charge so they could not review if I was eligible for the 6 month free guarantee(although they had no problems automatically charging me for it).
Basically Match will give you excuses not to give your money back and when you prove they are wrong and make you wait on the phone for 20 minutes each time you point out they are(probably receiving a new story to tell you from a superior), they will come up with a flimsy excuse like it's your responsibility to check your credit card charges to see if THEY charged you incorrectly. Like you should be doing their job for them.
There is a reason every Match review page you find online is negative, and this is just one of them.

Tip for consumers:
Actual service while using my membership was fine. Searches, email, no problems. Their policies and guarantees however are very shady to the point of being made up on the spot.

Instead of giving the user more information at a glance, or God forbid, give the user more control over what information is presented at a glance, Match has removed every bit of displayed information about a candidate other than age and an "Iceberg Shot". An Iceberg Shot is best described like this: "10% of an iceberg is above the water and beautiful; unfortunately, it's the 90% you can't see that's going to ruin your day". When all I can see of a woman is shoulders neck and face, "that's" an Iceberg Shot. In order to even find out where a candidate lives, you must hover over the photo. To find out anything else, you must open the candidates full profile. You don't even know if there are any other photos until you go to the full profile. The new interface is so inefficient, that I've stopped using any of the Search functions (which they've stupidly re-named "Discover"). All I check these days are "maybe" the 12 daily matches, which can sometimes make me wonder, "What the Hell are they thinking?!" Other than that, all I do is respond to "Likes", answer emails and check Views. I can not imagine what marketing imbecile thought these changes were value-added to the user. I can't imagine the executive idiots that listened to the imbecile's sales pitch and thought, "Oh yeh, this will be a big improvement for our users." If they don't restore efficiency and information at a glance, I'm going to start looking at other sites. It's really "that" bad. Match's only value is in the mere number of candidates, which "can" improve probabilities, but at an unacceptable cost now. If you value your time, don't bother looking at Match. With great disappointment - Jim Moscardini

This was the works experience I've ever had with a dating site. I thought that because I was actually paying for this, I could get in the ballpark of what I was looking for.

1. The filter criteria is a joke and only works for searching. You will be inundated with people that are not within the age range you specify.

2. If you are older, 40s-50s+ this may be a good site for you but the age demographic is much more senior than advertising would let on.

3. Their controls are the worst. I tried turning off email notification from the app and from the laptop and it would not stop the email notifications received for EVERY like, favorite, wink, and message. I am relatively attractive and was inundated with messages spamming my inbox.

4. Customer service is outsourced to India. They repeat rhings from your profile over and over that you already know because wrote them. They count saying thank you to people for liking your pic or thank but no thank you to those you aren't interested in ad "using" this account. Ridiculous. I cancelled my account a week after my 3 mo prescription started and they refused to refund any money, not even a portion. They were also a little rude.

Bottom line, try the site if you have a free trial but use a gift card to sign up so they can't trap you on recurring charges. I think this site is no better that the many free ones out there. Guys are just as aggressive, overwhelming, some desperate, and some crazy. So... at your own risk.

As a company, Match is a dissapointment! Good luck out there.

This is an open letter I wrote to Match. Enough said. Steer far, far away. Complete waste of hard-earned $$. The 1st paragraph is their statement on the FAQ section.

"Match.com does not send members misleading communications, including notifications, emails, or winks. However, sometimes you'll receive a message from a Match.com member, only to receive a "Profile Not Found" error when you try to look at their profile. Or you'll be notified that you've received a wink, only to find that it's disappeared once you sign in. In both of these cases, the member who contacted you has, for whatever reason, hidden their profile or may no longer have a valid account with us."

The above is a statement made by Match.com in the FAQ section. It is absolutely an outright lie! You MUST be well aware of this! The above is the reason why I cancelled. You cannot be trusted. Why is it that ONLY when I was NOT a member (before and after) I suddenly was the most popular guy in the world, getting winks, flirts, hugs, messages, etc. etc. Beyond belief. Only to finally sign up and nothing was really there. I received email after email from YOU telling me about all these people who wrote me messages and were checking me out and were interested in me and so forth. From YOU... so to blame your elusive members who allegedly spend their lives doing the "wink and run"... is ludicrous. You really need to stop misleading and scamming people. Truly, for a site as popular and well-known as yours, you should be ashamed of yourselves. And for the record, I have spoken to several other people who have not pursued memberships for the exact same reasons. Extremely disappointed with your business practices.

I have subscribed to match.com a few times as a paid subscriber. Being aware that Match segments their subscribers more than other sites, I performed a test by changing my zip code to different local zip codes within a 3-mile radius and the females who viewed my profile and daily matches varied by zip code, therefore just putting your profile on match does not mean your profile is automatically accessible to everyone.

Match.com is the No. 1 Dating Site (note that match is an advertiser to the sites that state that match.com is No. 1), BUT Match.com is the No. 1 Scammer based on my experiences:

(1) Match.com continuously gave me Daily Matches of women who are no longer on the site, women who did not post photos, and women residing outside of my geographic area. Match takes your money and delivers what you don't want.

(2) Based on singles that I know personally that are no longer on match, the site uses their profiles as if they are still on match.

(3) Failing to show a photo is a red flag that indicates that a person is either married, a criminal, or is hiding something, therefore delivering those profiles to me through Daily Matches leaves a red flag about Match.com. From my documentation, some days included 8 out of 10 Daily Matches with no photos.

(4) Most of the women (95%) on the site that I communicated with were not exactly honest about numerous aspects of their profile. Some are obvious - age, race, body size

(5) I had Scammers view, Like, Favorite, and email me. Profiles of Scammers are fairly easy to identify, but Match.com attracted a good number of them.

From experience, you have to date/meet at least ten people on match.com before you find someone decent, not perfect, honest or your match, just decent.

As Match.com receives your money, Match.com gives you the impression that you will fall within that small percentage of couples who really connect for a long-term relationship, but I have been on match.com a few times, and like most people, I am not one of the very, very few that they advertise to reach a Long-term Relationship.

Don't be Fooled!

So being on the dating market for some time I decided to give match.com a chance. I did the 6 month plan with "match guaranteed." I built the account and put in everything and sent out messages on a regular basis. On that note, I had one response that got only a few messages in before it went dead in the water. After a year of trying to use it, I never had a successful match on the site.
A large issue I also had on the site was I put in as a deal killer "Does not want kids" as I have no desire to have children. 8/10 of the daily matches were "wants kids." You're doing a pretty poor job on finding good matches if you're ignoring the deal killers for a person when you go "hey, here are some folks that we think would be good matches for you." It would be similar to telling your friends you do not do well at dating very religious people, then having them set you up with a person who is in church 4 nights a week and bases their daily lives on scripture. To each their own, but ignoring someone when they say "I don't want to date x types of people" is piss poor matchmaking.

So I mentioned in the subject "Unless you fit into a particular appearance." Reason I mention that is online dating how you look more often than not ranks very heavily on if someone will just glaze past your profile or take a closer look. Online people seem to often be much pickier on appearance than say at a bar or something similar. Is it a bad thing? Not really. Everyone is entitled to their own physical preferences. Someone should be with the person that makes them happy and if part of what makes them happy is based on their appearance then more power to them.

All in all, I've had better luck on the free sites than match.com. Don't waste your money. Their customer service when you bring up the issues run copy and paste generic answers.

I just signed on SiteJabber to post this review.

DO NOT USE match.com. All there is on there are scammers. I signed up 3 days ago and ALL of the people I met say they are in Ghana. Even a profile that was listed as close to me stated that they were in Ghana. I'm calling them to cancel my subscription and request my money back If they ask why I'm cancelling, I will flatly say"your site is all scammers. You need to clean those out.: If they refuse, I will go to the media and expose them. I live in the nation 3rd biggest television market. When that report airs, I'm going to record it on my DVR and post it on YouTube. THEY WILL PAY one way or another.

UPDATE: March 2,2015 9:45 A.M. I called match.com and asked for a refund. Having read the reviews, I expected what happened. They said that they couldn't police all the members, yada yada yada, and they refused to refund my money. I calmly said "Thank you" when I REALLY wanted to use another work that ended in k rather than "thank" but like Arthur Fonzerelli I kept my cool. I hung up and IMMEDIATELY called the local CBS station (KPIX). The outgoing message said that calls are returned between 11 AM to 1 PM Monday. Through Friday. I left my story. Now we'll have to see what happens next. I'll update here... stay tuned.

UPDATE 04/06/15 Well, I just got a call from KPIX today. They want to do the story. YEAH! Match.com, I'm coming after ya! Film at 11.

Tip for consumers:
If you want to throw away money, flush it down the toilet. You'll get more enjoyment doing that than on this site.

I started with the site with intention of 3 mons. At the end I checked the boxes to cancel and also sent them an email to NOT renew me. They did anyway, with excuses that ranged from rep to rep. At the end of the second term I made sure and called them to cancel for good. They continue to send me messages to rewrite my profile, come back for 3 mons for the price of one, etc. I complained multiple times of having my email box filled with SPAM, from x rated to ed. I am a woman, ha ha. Over three mons I had over 2000 emails that they had shared my info with. They will match you with anyone regardless. If the daily matches don't align they will use something you say in your profile to use as a match. It's pathetic and the site is a waste of time and money. I met some great guys but many of them have been on the site for years and actually use it a s a dating source with marriage NOT in mind... many are married so be careful about that. I background checked everyone and was amazed how many have some criminal background, from battery of an ex to stealing company money.
I had to go in and mess up my profile info because I was still getting mail after I was gone. I see they do anything to get you to renew, not going to EVER happen. EAven after I added that I was 3 ft tall and bald, I still received mail. They said they will not remove my credit card info as it is part of their database and they are not set up to do so. Such a handy mistake. I changed my credit card number and I did have the company block them in case they try and use the old one, because they can if they wish. But they told me they would contact me first to okay that. If they are sharing your private info who knows if they will use the credit card info as well. Or worse, they get hacked like other companies.
Please think twice before you make the choice to join. I would NOT recommend. I am a pretty classy girl with a lot to offer but I can do better meeting someone in my neighborhood better than this pitiful site.
Good luck to all

I initially created a free profile last Thursday 7-9-15 and soon realized that you could not interact with others without a paid subscription. Since it said there were women interested in my profile I wanted to find out who they were. So I signed up to be a member on 7-10-15. All of their packages seemed expensive but I found a 20% coupon and was just going to get a 1 month ($32 dollars with the discount) but for $20 more I could get 3 months so I thought it was a good deal. I regret this so much now. It turned out that all of the women who winked at me and the 1 who wanted to chat were not real. Within moments a lot of the women who liked any of my pictures or winked could not be found anymore or there profiles would be listed as hidden. The one that actually chatted with me started to feel fake really fast and I could really tell something was fishy when they tried to quickly connect with me outside of the site. I wanted to cancel and get a refund that very first day I signed up 7-10-15 but their office hours were over. I sent an email but decided to chat with someone to close the account and get a refund online today Monday 7-13-15. This did not go well. Even though I explained what happened and that I did not feel secure using their service and that I immediately tried to cancel they said they could not refund 1 dollar of what I paid. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said the same thing. This is unethical and wrong in my opinion. After reading all the other reviews this seems abusive and illegal and a government agency needs to get involved. I will keep writing to other organizations like the Better Business Bureu and alert as many people as I can to not use this fraudulent service. Stay away!

I'll never use match.com again and I will tell all of my single friends the same. Most of my "likes" were scammers
