Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
(1) The seller did not ship my item for almost a month! I received no communication from Mercari during that time. I ordered on December 4th and received after Christmas on December 28th! (2) I had to find the seller on Facebook to get her to ship the item. She's a teenager who said she didn't ship because her printer was out of ink. She only shipped it when I told her to take a pen and write my address on the box! (3) The rating system sucks. I thought I was giving an initial rating of the condition of the item. Instead, it now says that I had a "good" experience with the seller and it was NOT GOOD! (4) I tried to cancel, but Mercari support did not do it in time and she shipped the item anyway. (5) Correspondence with Mercari support was poor. (6) The website redirected too many times for my browser to let me log in or check status. I finally was able to do it by opening another browser. (7) I will never use this site again and will encourage others to avoid it. (8) I want to change my rating for the seller and give some comments, but it will not allow me to do that!
I have been a seller on Mercari for several years with many successful sales. However, the two return requests I have received have made me never want to use Mercari again. My first return request, the buyer said the item was damaged in transit, with photos of the tag slightly bent. Mercari approved the return and told me to package my items better. Moving forward, I started shipped in boxes instead of bags, so that tags wouldn't be damaged in transit. This week, a buyer requested to cancel after I had dropped the package off, so I knew it probably wouldn't end well. When the buyer received the item, they requested a return for item damaged, and showed photos of a blemish on the front of the sweater that was hardly visible in their photos - it looked like dust. Mercari approved the return. When I received the item back, there was not a smudge like the buyer showed in the photos, but they had pulled the fabric and the tag was went in half. I alerted Mercari to this issue and they basically said "sorry we can't prove it." I tried to look at the buyer-submitted photos again, but Mercari only allows sellers to view return request photos for 24 hours. After asking support to compare photos, they said their decision isn't changing and they will not show the buyer-submitted photos for me to prove the inconsistencies. Customer Support appears to be awful for most people on both the seller and buyer side. Don't even bother with Mercari - use the other platforms.
Hello. I purchased 5 old US peace dollars from a seller on Mercari. The coins arrived when I was visiting family as it was a long weekend- Thanksgiving. When I arrived back to the house I found 5 peace dollars that seemed suspicious so I took them to a coin dealer where he scanned the coins and found they were fake. I immediately filed an issue with Mercari and they said it was beyond the 72 hour window and they'd give me a coupon for my trouble...I said this was not an acceptable resolution and had to go back and forth many times before they said that if I can provide proof that they would refund me. I went to another coin dealer that I know of with an xray scanner to tell exactly what the coins are made of- silver plated brass (prior to 1964 dimes, quarters, 50 cent pieces and dollars are 90% silver). I took many photos and even videos of each coin being scanned. Sent it to mercari. And Mercari said they need an expert third party to say the coins are fake. The evidence I sent wasn't enough. They are the worst company. I will be going to a secret service office in Ft Myers Florida that specializes in tracking down counterfeit US currency next. Mercari and everyone there is a joke. Avoid at all costs.
Mercari's website posts that they offer returns in 3 days of you receiving an item but it is not true. Mercari's website fails to allow you to even start a return within the 3 day window. You can click on dropdowns and write a few things but then it won't let you submit. When you try to contact them, guess what? You can't! They have no email on their website. Their return policy doesn't mention anything about taking photos but if you want to return, they ask you for photos but their photo link won't allow you to upload any. How convenient. To contact them within the 3 days window I was able to find support email by googling it. Not on their website. The rep told me I could not return the item because "the transaction had been rated." I had no idea what that meant. I told them I never rated anything. They told me that their system "automatically rates all transactions after 3 days!" OMG! Another rep told me that my transaction was rated the day my package was delivered. So basically no one can ever return anything at Mercari because they themselves rate the transaction preventing any return. WHAT A SCAM! Customer service reps also give you false, misleading, and contradictory information. Some tell you to send photos of the item, others say photos have to be sent within 24 hours. In the end, you will never ever ever get a refund from these people. The store should be shut down. Do not buy from them!
My issues with Mercari. It ask you to list a description of the item you're selling then list the condition. If you list Fair - which clearly states multiple-flaws the buyer isn't satisfied then they rate the seller low and give them a negative review. Mercari customer service chooses not to intervene and remove the low rating even though it wasn't your fault as you followed the directions of Mercari. This here is horrible customer service. Next complaint I have is why do us sellers have to wait 3 days for a rating if the buyer chooses not to rate. The item was delivered per UPS, USPS or FedEx. I did my job as a seller and shipped it to you in a timely matter. All buyers should rate immediately and if they don't they should be penalized in some way. My next biggest complaint I have is regarding shipping cost. If I list an item and shipping is paid by the buyer the seller in no way should be responsible for any additional shipping costs. PERIOD! Any additional shipping cost should be charged to the buyer. Mercari you should be ashamed of yourself by deducting these cost from sellers! Your just simply greedy!

I sold a few items on here and mostly purchased. Everything was fine and dandy until two days ago when I purchased a Foreo Luna and a brush for my dog. 20 minutes later I get a notification saying both transactions were canceled and my account suspended pending review. 45 minutes after that, I get a notification that my account is being DELETED due to 'suspicious payment activity'. I had recently added a new credit card with MY name on it to pay for the items; can someone tell me what's suspicious about using a card with my name on it? I emailed Mercari about this and just got some automated messages about my account being deleted because of the suspicious activity and how it's for the safety of the community blah blah blah. I email again asking what exactly was suspicious about me using my own card to pay for the items. The response I get?

We are unable to release specific details regarding cases in which suspicious payment activity has been detected. Per our policy, we have terminated your account for the safety and security of the Mercari community. We will not restore your account." Gee, that was helpful. Thanks.
I used Mercari after using Poshmark. I was thrilled at first due to the $0 commission that Mercari asks for, and the shipping has many different options. I was thrilled, that is, until I realized how absolutely abysmal the customer service is.
I had a really awful experience with a seller. She was abrasive, standoffish, and clearly just there to scam people and make money. She gave one word answers to everything asked about her merchandise, and gave a bad name to people trying to make an honest dollar and sell their old or unused clothing. I bought from her a pair of pants, and I paid $20+shipping for these pants. She advertised 1-2 day shipping, proof of shipment, and that the product would be in mint condition.
3 weeks later my pants arrived, with a ton of pilling, a huge hole, and a missing drawstring. They were absolutely disgusting! They reeked of smoke and were worth about $5 on a good day. I contacted Mercari asking for a refund or a return, and they told me it was too late! That if I wanted a refund I wasn't allowed to rate my seller. Well, I did rate my seller and it was too late for me to take it back, however I clearly didn't understand that and I would never have done so had I known how awful these pants would be! Mercari doesn't give 2 sh*ts about customer satisfaction, something I've learned the hard way. I paid almost $30 on a pair of busted pants, and I will never use Mercari again.
BUYER BEWARE! I urge anyone and everyone to stay off of MercariApp.
Tip for consumers:
My tip for people using this site: DON'T.
They let someone return an item to me THAT THEY DAMAGED, and will not do anything about it.
All you get is automated messages. And 5 days later you get another automated message that states people can pretty much return an item for anything and not reimburse you for packaging fees and or damage to the item during shipping or while in the buyers posession
I have been successful selling on another platform. Thought I would give Mercari a try. I listed several items. The next day they mistakenly flagged one of my items as counterfeit and removed it. It's a luxury brand, I get it, but I've owned it for years, and trust me I paid the Brand price at the original store. Mercari wants proof of authenticity. The box, bag and tags are long gone. I see other sellers with the identical item, in similar condition, with no box photos either! Mercari will not let me relist the item. As a result of me being a suspicious seller, they also will not let me promote or answer any messages from people interested in my other listings. So, now I have listings that I can not promote or answer any questions about in order to help any potential buyers. It makes me wonder if I would get paid if any of my items do sell?
I filed a complaint with customer service, which by the way is so poorly designed that they will only take inquiries about certain subjects, so I had to choose another topic in order to complain. There is no phone number to call to speak to a live person. When they do answer your inquiry, its a robo answer that just says, see the TOS. Just garbage!
IMHO the problems start with the platform. The Sellers are not bad people, they are using a bad platform.
Removing my listings and sticking with Poshmark where I am a five star buyer rated Posh Ambassador and don't get harassed by Poshmark.
Extremely poor to no customer service, completely unprofessional and disappointing. Don't waste your time shopping at this site. At all costs spend your time and money else where.
Tip for consumers:
do not shop Mercari
They did not sent my correct order, will never use them again, buyer beware. They are rip-off, customer service sucks, never use them. Ebay is soon much better.

I made one purchase here never received anything and when I went to their "help center " it said to wait a few more days and I did wait when I contacted the seller he said the tracking said it was delivered nothing he could do contact the company and they said the same thing The company claims to guarantee a big scam I wish I checked out reviews first
Let PayPal win ur battles 2 many scammers on mercari to use it safely stick to eBay amazon since they have a lot more to lose and won't try to pull one over on you
I ordered a present to ship to my grandma and for some reason, order was canceled and account was closed. Don't recommend this site at all. Very disrespectful.
They do not allow time to recieve and check the quality of the purchase before demanding you rate the seller. If you rate the seller on their communications with you and NOT the actually Item, they consider that YOUR saying the Product was great and they CLOSE DOWN any possible refunds or replacements, even if the product was truly defective on arrival. Customer service never directly answers this question, they just say sympathetic things but offer NO resolution. TOTALLY DO NOT USE THEM.
Tip for consumers:
Do Not make a purchase.

I began using this app a few months ago along with the Poshmark app. I've sold things with no problems but when I mentioned trading something I was selling that didn't fit me anymore with something similar in my size someone else was selling, I got an almost immediate warning. Now trading on Poshmark is ok but apparently it's not ok on Mercari. I mentioned trading again a few months later thinking I was on Poshmark only to get kicked out of Mercari indefinitely. Ridiculous! It was an accident, an honest mistake! I thought I was chatting on Poshmark and not Mercari. However, they didn't care that I have a 5 star rating and not one bad review. They didn't care that I sold things and they earned money off me. I was indefinitely terminated along with my daughter and her account just because we live at the same address! They wouldn't even allow me to defend myself against their allegations. I'm still with Poshmark and have never had any issues with them. I will never recommend this ridiculous money hungry company Mercari to anyone ever! Just go to Poshmark everyone. They are not scammers like Mercari!
Mercari works hard to make sure that it's a miserable experience for sellers and buyers. They refuse to delete things that have sold and they make it hard for sellers to delete things that sold ON OTHER SITES. They make you pay for return shipping when someone cancels an order. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME!
I bought a surveillance camera that didn't work and couldn't get my money back from the seller or the company after two weeks of emails and trying to get help from the camera manufacturer.
But I have been buying and Selling on Mercari and have had no problems with either transactions. I have purchased many items and have received them quickly and as described. I have also sold over 100 items in my first month and I am very happy with their customer service. 1 item was lost in the mail and they quickly refunded the buyer and paid me as per their policy. They do have time limits on things so you have to be diligent. I have closed my Ebay store, listed those items on mercari and sold most of them the 1st month. They sat on ebay at the same prices for 6 months... just costing me store fees. If you follow the rules and deal with customer service within the timeline in their policy you will have no problems. Just make sure not to rate a seller if you are not happy. Once you rate it's a done deal. Read all pi f the sellers guidelines seller and buyer protection policy so you know how to protect yourself. I think most of the complaints are because people are not reading how things work and they do not make exceptions for stupidity.
I bought a wall lamp that was defective and unusable. When I contacted the company they said it was more than 48 hrs so too bad. So I am stuck with a useless lamp.
They like to let idiot individuals who sell things that are not allowed, and prescription drugs/items. Prescription items, that illegal. Just frustrating the $#*! they let the sellers get away with
Mercari is a TERRIBLE website to use. I've made a couple sales and out of one of them, Mercari was picky and said that it violated the terms and guidelines. I submitted a request to ask why, and Mercari was so vague. Their customer service is terrible and they take days, or even weeks, to respond. After that, Mercari has supposedly charged me twice, saying that I violated the guidelines. They then closed my account, and after I said that one of the charges was invalid, they didn't even care about my opinion. After I argued with them and asked them questions on why they couldn't provide me more info on why they thought I violated a rule, they just simply ignored all my questions and said the case was closed and won't be reopened.
Terrible. If I could give 0 stars, or negative stars, this company and website deserves -. DO NOT USE THIS WEBSITE! COMPLETE SCAM AND WASTE OF YOUR TIME!
I just bought a phone on Sunday and just got my package today and is an empty box I lost $329! I'm so stupid! I just want to cry is not like money grow on trees!
Hey Claudia,
If you received an empty box, we'll be more than happy to review your case! Please send a message to contact@mercari.com, and we'll gladly take a closer look for you!

THIS WEBSITE ADVERTISES NEW AND USED MERCHANTDISE. I ordered what I thought I was getting new but when it arrived it was used, broken, filthy and no electrical to charge the item. Advertised as new Micheal Todd sonic makeup brush. Who in their right mind would want a used sonic makeup brush from a total stranger. I started that day working on trying to return it. Numerous emails which were answered by them but I got the run around. I WAS RIPPED OFF. No return, no money back and item was not useable. CUSTOMER support gave me the run around, no help what soever.
Our return policy is that a buyer may request a return within 3 days of confirmed delivery if the transaction has not been rated and meets one of these criteria: - The item is not as described in the listing - The item is damaged or lost in transit - The wrong item is received. You're able to request a return in-app by going to the Order Status screen, tapping the question mark in the top right corner, and selecting “How to request a return”. Please also note that our support team can be reached anytime via the Help Center or our contact email address. If this issue hasn't yet been resolved, please send us a message and a representative will be happy to assist. -Team Mercari
I bought a signed Joe Montana football and then I returned it in the mail and the mail people lost it or something and I showed macari the receipts and when it left I showed them everything and they still made me pay like I think it was like $200 for the football after I sent it back and they person said they never got it so yeah you pretty much get ripped out there
