I initially wrote a review on 7/9/17 with 1 star and a title of "Totally Bogus". I bought DNA tests for my parents for Mothers and Fathers Day in 2017 from my heritage. Our results seemed completely bogus. So, we ended up going through ancestry. My heritage had my dad 100% English. We knew he wasn't. Ancestry has him England, Scotland and northern Ireland. So I think my heritage is correct, but they combined the 3 to UK vs breaking it down to the 3 countries in the UK.
Another big reason we thought the results were bogus is because my mom came back with 15% Italian and 4% Greek. I have researched my mother's side of the family back to the 1400's and not one person is from Italy or Greece. Well, as it turns out, ancestry also had 15% Italian but also came with a 1/2 brother and 1st cousins DNA matches whose grandfather was born in Italy. People we didn't know who they were. We then discovered that her father she knew is not her father and that her biological fathers paternal side of the family is Italian. So, I owe my heritage an apology, as we did not know this and therefore thought the results were bogus.
If you're looking for a comparison on my heritage vs ancestry, this is my opinion. If you're looking for research only, I'd personally go with "my heritage" as the site is more user friendly and easier to navigate. They also provide you with smart matches with potential ancestors via email. Whereas as I rarely get emails from ancestry and have to do the digging myself which is time consuming. If you're looking for DNA matches of others, looking for family, etc, I'd go with ancestry as I believe there are more people getting their tests through ancestry therefore more of a chance to connect with long lost family members. Ancestry also breaks down the heritage better with their DNA results.

Dear Sharon,
I'm sorry to read that you are disappointed with your ethnicity estimate because you are wondering why you show a West Asian percentage but your parents Ethnicity Estimate does not show this.
There is actually a scientific reason for this, please allow me to explain.
Each person receives 50% of his DNA from his/her mother, and 50% from his/her father. The percentages of DNA a person receives from his ancestors at the level of grandparents and further back (Great grandparents, etc.) are not necessarily divided evenly in each generation.
Because the percentages of DNA a person receives from his ancestors at the level of second generation (grandparents) and further back are not necessarily divided evenly in each generation, it is possible that one great-grandparent may have passed on 3% of his/her DNA to his great-grandchild, while another great-grandparent may have passed on 11%.
This might explain some surprising results in your MyHeritage Ethnicity Estimate such as a West Asian percentage in your results passed from higher generations. This also demonstrates why the probability of a person having only one pure ethnicity is very unlikely and why some siblings may inherit certain ethnicities, while other siblings may inherit the same ethnicity in another percentage, or even may not inherit this ethnicity at all.
Determining one’s ethnicity based on DNA is a relatively new field in genetics. Great advancements have been made in the past years, but there is much more to discover. I can assure you that MyHeritage is on top of this and we will continue to work on improve our Ethnicity Estimate along with developing better tools based on your feedback, new scientific research and discoveries.
I'd be happy to give you more personal insight in regards to your Ethnicity Estimate.
Please contact me from your registered e-mail address at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com anytime. I would always be happy to answer any questions you may have in more detail.

Found this on a list of "free" genealogy sites. Was alright starting off, until I reached the limit of Smart Find matches you can confirm. Then it asked me to pay. Since I was not interested in doing so (note how I said "I was looking for FREE genealogy sites"), I decided to delete my account. It asked me to put in my password; so I did. It said my password was incorrect. This is when I knew something was wrong. I had saved my password with Google Smart Lock as soon as I made it, but sometimes you can mix passwords up with Google Smart Lock so I assumed I did make a mistake. I pressed "forgot password", put in the email with which I registered my account, received a link to change my password, and did so; this time, however, I made sure the Google Smart Lock saved the right password and that I updated it correctly. Went to delete my password again. Same thing. Changed the password through the way where you have to input the current one and then a new one. Same bloody problem. It won't let me delete my account. It wants to keep my information. Called the number provided; the call ended while it was holding (twice!) and after I put in my ID. Tried to email them only to get "Sorry, we don't offer customer service to non-paying customers". Real nice. And funny, because a customer would only pay if they didn't have a problem with the site and didn't want to take their information off and delete their account. This problem still isn't fixed ya know. I'm gonna have to take it to the guys who fix my computer; they're nice so hopefully, they'll be able to help me out. Also, in the end, no matter WHAT you pay for a genealogy site, if you have to pay at all, go Ancestry.ca (honestly). I think I might just invest in that anyway.

Dear Sam,
I regret to find your low star review and I will do all I can to help you.
Your overall research experience is what is most important to us. Password issues can be frustrating and I sympathize with your efforts.
It sounds like you need to remove that saved password. In that case, it is done this way:
1.) On your computer, open Chrome.
2.)At the top right, click More Settings.
3.)At the bottom, click Advanced.
4.)Under "Passwords and forms," click Manage Passwords.
5.) Under "Saved passwords," to the right of the website, click More Remove.
You can now log in manually but you will need to remember the correct password. I'd be happy to personally help you with getting a new MyHeritage password.
In any case, please know that If you are unable to log in it to cancel your free trial because of the Google Smart lock issue you describe, there is absolutely no issue with refunding your purchase.
Moreover, your refund is guaranteed because our terms and conditions that read that If you are not satisfied with your purchase you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within thirty (30) days of the initial purchase date of the subscription.

When you sign up for a free 14 day membership, if you decide to cancel, depending on where you live in the world, this is not processed due to the time difference. The head office of MyHeritage is actually based in Israel, not the US. I had cancelled my 14 free trial, but they still debited my account for a yearly subscription which is very expensive. The refund process is lengthy & costly. They take your money but they State it takes 7 business days, not including weekends, to be returned. It takes months of frustrating calls. If you attempt to call them, again depending in the time difference, eg I had to set the alarm for 2am to call and then was placed on hold for over 30 mins to speak to a call centre in Ireland. They stated they could not connect me to the head office as stated on their own letterhead in a refund email as being in Utah US as the head office is located in Israel. This company is a fraudulent. In my 20 odd years of dealing with various Genealogy online companies, MyHeritage is the worst I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Call Centre staff in Israel are very rude & argumentative. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TRIAL AS THEY WANT YOUR CREDIT DETAILS AND AUTOMATICALLY DEBIT YOU ACC AFTER YOU HAVE CANCELLED YOUR FREE DAY TRIAL.

Dear Robyn,
I'm sorry to read your low star review and that you misunderstood the terms of your trial membership.
I sympathize with your frustration and will do all I can to help. I would like to clear up some of the misinterpretations you exhort in your feedback because we do not debit you after you choose to cancel your membership.
I'd also like to clarify that MyHeritage informs all members of the annual charge and its price on the automatic email that is sent out after you enroll in the membership and before every renewal.
Also, one may view the status or cancel an annual subscription at any time online when logging into MyHeritage from the My Purchases page and incur no annual charge. Again, please note that if you have canceled your trial before expiration, you will not be charged.
With regards to our free trial, our data collections include over 6 billion historical records and are constantly expanding, but it is possible that the information you are looking for is not yet listed in our records. This is why we provide a free trial period and a money back guarantee for users to try out our collections.
I invite you to go over our terms and conditions that read that If you are not satisfied with your purchase you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within thirty (30) days of the initial purchase date of the subscription.

Looks like their information is Limited to Social Security Index, Census records, and what some other active member uploaded or attached to the family tree. If you are trying to get an obituary not found in Google, Forget It! That is what I originally wanted - nope, Non-Existent unless another member loaded it and not any even remote member of my family. As Far as the DNA Results, I think they do something VERY Intentional. They will hold on to your results until you get past the first "free" month, although you already paid for the kit and really only get the one month membership free if you paid $64 (inc shipping) for the DNA kit. I mailed mine back the very next morning after receiving the kit to make sure they couldn't claim it was my fault! My additional charge just went through for the Year ($149) and still no results. I read another review that if you don't renew or pay for the next period they won't release your results! I also heard they erase what you established if you cancel. So, I am going to invest in one year to have time to work with my tree and really see about these results. But, the Family Tree really seems to be the only thing I get. So, really think about what you want out of subscribing to something like this and compare to other companies - something I failed to do! I really feel like $149 (which they said is half of the real $299 price) is Quite Pricey. I think the $149 could be appropriate if it were a one time membership fee to start and keep your tree there, but per year when most of us won't use it much after initially checking out the family! On top of everything else, they are actually depending on the members to source information that they use!
Tip for consumers:
Once you do the tree it will start matching, which was really the thing that made me hang in there and give it a chance. But if you are looking for documentation (like an obituary) for something, it may not be a good source. It is not something you can download so anything you have there they own and won't be able to access later and possibly even be deleted if you renew after a gap.

They say I am 36% Scandinavian, uh NO! Not one person in my family on both sides has that in their family tree, but my VPN has my computer thinking it is in Sweden. Maybe that is why My Heritage says that...
It seems that My Heritage has ALOT of people coming from the same places... I think they are ripping people off left and right. Even people who have paid alot to get their TRUE DNA matches are getting the same wrong crap from My Heritage.
I have Cherokee Native American on my mothers side, 100% from her mother. I have Choctaw Native American on my fathers side, 100% from his great grandparents on his mothers side. Yet, my results say I have 0% Native American. I do have 2.3% Nigerian though, that makes sense as the Cherokee Nation adopted Black slaves into their tribe. I keep reading about My Heritage's explanation about percentages from relative to relative being why some people can have some of their relative's genes while others do not. BULLPUCKEY!
I am kicking myself for paying for this... but at least I got the holiday deal. I know where I came from and this makes no difference at all. I have proof of my genes. And NONE of them come from Scandinavia!

Dear T S,
I'm sorry to find that you are unhappy with your Ethnicity Estimate and I'll do all I can to help.
It is true that DNA is not found to be evenly divided throughout the higher generations (Grandparents and higher) and some of your family can inherit more of a specific ethnicity than others. One may inherit more European DNA than Native American DNA depending on how far back your Native American ancestor is from you.
In addition, many of the Native American Tribes have not been a part of the sampling used to build reference populations in general. Within the United States alone, there are over 562 recognized Native American tribes, communities and Native villages. Your concern is a fairly common one and there is a lot of literature on it online.
That being said, I understand that you are trying to pinpoint the exact location that matches your research or family story. This can be done by utilizing the research tools available to you such as building your own family tree and finding comparable matches whether they be Genealogy or DNA matches. Our match algorithms have been proven to automatically find and compare similar DNA strands along with ancestral surnames, records, and family trees to find very interesting discoveries. New DNA is uploaded every day and the chances of that new information to match your research are high.
MyHeritage has been assisting millions for over a decade with their genealogy research and your feedback is paramount to our growth and development.
Therefore, I would like to assist you with your research and answer any questions you may have with the highest amount of priority.
Please e-mail me personally at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com, I'd be happy to help you, always.
Kind Regards
Rafael
