I am new to the Family Tree/ Ancestry web sites and software and I love MyHeritage.com. When I was looking into the different family history products available I was put off Ancestory.com because of the high monthly charges (and looking at the reviews on this site getting those charges stopped is a nightmare) so I trialled the free package on MyHeritage and thought I would be happy to keep it at that but I found the software so easy to use and I really started enjoying researching my tree so I decided to pay so I could expand it. I admit I didn't realise there was going to be two charges, one for the web site and one for the Family Tree builder, which I think could be worded a bit clearer so people are aware although they are linked the company sees them as two different products. However, aside from that, I would definitely recommend MyHeritage, the software is easy to use and all the different charts, trees and reports that the Family Tree Builder can create are fun to play around with.
I recently had a question about the way the Family Tree builder and the Web Site work and I received a reply very quickly that was polite, informative and useful.
Thanks Yehudah for your help and keep up the good work MyHeritage team.

I have found over 300 names of family members in the past year that I did not know existed. I met cousins In Israel, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Argentina and the USA.

We sent in a kit for my wife and I at the same time. My wife's results arrived first. Immediately saw inaccurate results. My was listed as about 75% British/Irish. That actually seemed to make sense. My wife's mother's family was all English as far a family history indicated. My wife's father oral history was less clear. His (my wife's father) mother was not sure if she was English or French. The 75% British/Irish would seem answer that she was English.

The results for my wife indicated 20.4% Italian indicating my wife's father's father would be mostly Italian. However, it has been documented through historical research that my wife's father's father was German. The family tree has actually been traced back 5 generations in Germany through verified birth records.

Now, the real problem! I downloaded the raw data. My wife (yes she is a biological female) was provided Y chromosome results. Women have two X chromosomes and do not have a Y chromosome.

My results have finally arrived, 10 days after my wife's. The results indicate I am 100% British/Irish. I would have no problem being 100% Irish, BUT I AM NOT. Indeed my father's family has been documented to be completely of Irish decent on both sides. My mother's mother emigrated from Ireland to the US. There is excellent documentation birth, naturalization and more to verify. However, my mother's father actually emigrated from France. His name was Cheverier. My Cheverier cousins have researched the family history back five generations in France, Again, this research has been documented through official birth, death, marriage, and naturalization records. In fact my Grandfather Cheverier, a Parisian trained chef, was the chef at Mark Twain's West Hartford home. THEREFORE I CANNOT BE 100% British/Irish!

MyHeritage is more about marketing and selling products that genetic accuracy. Don't waste your money!

I have been using MyHeritage FTB (Family Tree Builder) for a number of years. I have always gotten excellent support when ever I had a problem. I used MyHeritage FTB software before the Sync feature was available to Sync FTB with the online website. When the Sync feature became available I noticed that when I added a photo into FTB it would upload to the online website to 3 albums instead of the two albums (the one I selected in FTB and the Recent photos album).
I contacted MyHeritage Support and Shlomi in the support team was assigned to my problem. Shlomi ask me to recreate the 3rd album in FTB and delete the 3rd album from the online web and add the photos that were in the online website 3rd album to FTB and let FTB upload the photos in to the new album that FTB created. This procedure solved my problem. I am very grateful for the support that I have always received from the MyHeritage Support Team.

I've been using MyHeritage for over two years. It is a fully functional and easy to navigate geanealogy and family tree website. The free access to MyHeritage limits the number of people documented in the tree to 250 people. There is also a limit to the amount of photo storage space you consume. With nearly 200 photos of people and documents I am using only 5% of the allowed space so this is less of an issue.

The website doesn't spam the members. You will get only occasional emails from MyHeritage with updates that have been made to your tree by you or other family members. You'll get notifications of upcoming birthdays and anniversaries which you can control. MyHeritage sends newsletters about new features and genealogy seminars from time to time. I'd say communication from MyHeritage to the users is "just right".

Navigation around the website is easy and intuitive. A lot of functions of the website seem to be well constructed by the developers as they appear and function just like you would have hoped they would.

If you stick with the free subscription you will need to use other sources for research into other databases. The Website will alert you that other documents have been found but only give you a tease of the contents. Premium membership is needed to view them. I just use other sources to view them.

MyHeritage also compares your family tree records with other users trees. When the same people are found in other trees the site notifies you and it allows you to copy some data from the other tree into yours. Contact with the Site Manager of the other family tree is restricted to Premium members.

All of my experiences with their service people have been terrific. My issues got responses by email in reasonable response time. I think support came from overseas in at least one or two instances.

The MyHeritage software works very well and I was amazed that their Smart Matches and other tools allow adding so many people to a family tree with only a relatively small amount of effort. I found family members that I had heard of earlier in my life, but I was never clear how I was related to them. Those relationships are now very clear. The family tree builder is impressive and easy to work with. I now have family tree members that go all of the way back to the 1,600's in Ireland. There is no way I would have ever been able to do that so easily any other way.

This review is however more about the great MyHeritage customer service people I talked to today. I was prepared to have to strongly request they fix my problem. Instead they agreed happily and completely with fixing my problem and did fix it correctly and immediately while I was still on the telephone.

My problem was I essentially bought the MyHeritage Premium Plus subscription twice by accident and I wanted to make sure I got two years of subscription credit, not one year. The first subscription was purchased through the MyHeritage App on my iPad, but that apparently only allowed purchasing the MyHeritage Premium Plus subscription from Apple iTunes. I actually am buying and using the "Complete" subscription which adds a "Data" subscription also. When I bought that on the MyHeritage website, it included the "Complete" subscription, not just the "Data" subscription. This was resolved at my suggestion, by just buying a second "Data" subscription so that everything now expires in two years. That was easier than trying to get a refund from Apple as was first suggested. This was fixed well, quickly and correctly! Thank you MyHeritage customer service personnel Steven and Marianne. Job well done!
