For the past two weeks I have been in contact with MyHeritage by emails and calls, received replies back by email but need to speak to someone as they have charge my account twice for the subscription. NO one will call me back emails say that there are two different subscriptions, DID NOT AUTHORISE THIS, they took money out of my account under false claims.

Hi Virginia,

I'm sorry to find that you have not yet received a response from our support team. I will do all I can to help.

Firstly, I would like to remind you that if you did not authorize this type of charge then a refund is in order by all means. Your membership satisfaction is of great importance to us here at MyHeritage. I would also like to investigate why you did not receive a response yet from our support team.

In order to help, I need to confirm and verify your MyHeritage registration but I cannot do that with the name I see here on Site Jabber. Therefore, please e-mail me directly at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may assist you with all of this as soon as possible.

Looking forward to helping you as soon as possible.

Sincerely
Rafael

The results of this test is an "animated" page that comes up and lists your percentages of generalized areas of the world very slowly. It said I am 1/2 English or Irish - no problem there. The Mormons in our family have done very careful genealogical research that reflects that. But it also says I am 1/4 Italian, and there is no one with an Italian surname or maiden name for at least three generations back and I'm supposed to be 1/4 according to them? Don't get me wrong - I would LOVE to be Italian, but it would truly be a monumental revelation since no one has ever mentioned it on either side of the family. Also, I have a great-grandfather who was Cherokee... there are pictures of him and there is no mistaking he was Native American. I heard about him all my childhood from my mother as her beloved grandfather. There was no percentage of Native American according to this test. I wonder if a legitimate lab would come up with something even remotely similar? Anyway, save your money because the results are vague and, I would wager, wrong. I feel absolutely robbed.

Dear Mary,

I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your Myheritage DNA results.

Your feedback is very important to us and helps us a great deal in improving and refining our current model for DNA research.

Because the percentages of DNA a person receives from his ancestors at the level of second generation (grandparents) and further back are not necessarily divided evenly in each generation, it is possible that one great-grandparent may have passed on an odd percentage of his/her DNA to his great-grandchild, while another great-grandparent may have passed on another different percentage.

This might explain some surprising results in your MyHeritage Ethnicity Estimate, However, the probability of a person having only one pure ethnicity based on a surname is very unlikely.

I'm proud to inform you that we are currently researching samples from the ongoing MyHeritage Founder Population project that we launched in order to research more origins of all the many specific DNA strands that is found throughout the world. This will gradually add many more supported ethnicities and add more detailed information found in the MyHeritage DNA Ethnicity Estimate.

It is our goal to provide the best tools for everyone interested in researching their DNA. We would like to re-process your raw DNA data when this updated model is ready in the near future, so that your Ethnicity Estimate will be more refined.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about your research at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com

Kind Regards
Rafael

The MyHeritage Tech Support Team found a solution for a new and confounding technical problem that I recently had while using their Family Tree Builder software. MyHeritage has been my genealogical site since 2015 for creating, updating, and managing my family tree, and it has always been reliable. My recent issue involved suddenly not being to use several functions in the software. After I contacted the tech support team, they quickly responded and opened an investigation case for me. Through email interactions, we discussed what wasn't working. They provided clear and detailed instructions of actions for me to perform to solve the problem and asked me to reply to them with the results of those actions. I am an older person who is not fully computer-savvy, but with their patient help while I provided them detailed descriptions of what I did to follow their instructions and what resulted, we solved the problem. After the problem was solved, they even provided me information about what was most likely the cause, which satisfied my curiosity about why it happened. It was very easy to work with them and satisfying to know that they really care about helping their customers. You can certainly rely on MyHeritage for great technical support if you ever need it!

The features for normal users to enter some family info and merge with other users' infos is practically not there. I do have stuff going back to the 17th century and was intrigued to see that they appear offer this, but it is only appearances, they do not really. My phone number was never registered with your site. While I considered a subscription, they called my (unlisted, not known) home number - so within minutes they must have taken a deep grip deep inside the illegal address trade that the phone harrassment companies have here. The call was logged to come from 044 508 **, which designates one of the infamous companies in Switzerland, not reputable. ---- So, I asked on their forum whether they want to explain how exactly, step by step, they had worked that out so fast, in more detail but they would not. With that I found them to be shamelessly non-responsive to a sensitive issue - and when you deal with family information, you just can not afford to be shamelessly non-responsive in context of very sensitive information, particularly if it is a phone number that is generally not available. So I did more research and found that their 185 USD annual subscription is virtually impossible to cancel - because they also do not seem to answer any requests there. To make other collectors happy I would have paid 10 or 12 bucks a year or so, given that I would be the one to type in all that stuff.

Dear Wolf S,

I am shocked to read about your experience with researching your family with MyHeritage and I can assure you that your feedback is very important to us. Therefore, I will do all I can to help you.

It is important to know that we will only contact a member using the information that is provided to us in the account details that is initially setup with an account and a free membership. While I understand how frustrating it may be to be contacted out of the blue without expecting it, our intention is to give more information on our latest promotions while advising members of the best subscription that fits one's tree research needs and budget.

Although many people do benefit from hearing about our latest promotions and different subscriptions, I can stop this for you by all means. If you would like, I can notate your account requesting not to receive any contact from us unless requested otherwise to prevent this from happening again.

In regards to your comment about canceling your membership, MyHeritage values the satisfaction of its customers and our terms and conditions read that If you are not satisfied with your purchased plan you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within thirty (30) days of the initial purchase date of the subscription. This money back guarantee applies to site subscriptions, Data subscriptions, and Complete subscriptions.

Also, MyHeritage informs all of the annual charge and its price on the automatic email that is sent out after you enroll in the membership and before every renewal. Also, one may view the status or cancel an annual subscription at any time when logging in to MyHeritage and going to your My Purchases page and incur no annual charge.

Please contact me directly at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may locate your account and notate it according to your feedback and more importantly to assist you further with any questions you may have on your research.

You are already my first priority here and I will be looking for your e-mail.

Kind Regards
Rafael

Dear Hamidreza,

I am sorry to read your review and would like to resolve the issue for you.

Firstly, I must clarify that MyHeritage informs all of any charges and its price on the automatic e-mail that is sent out after you enroll in a subscription and after every renewal or purchase of a DNA kit. When you apply for a free trial or purchase a subscription, you are requested the payment information in order to charge your account. Also, one may view the status or cancel an annual subscription at any time when logging in to MyHeritage from the My Purchases page and incur no annual charge.

Your member experience is very important to us and we really do value the satisfaction of all of our members. This is why our terms and conditions read that if you are not satisfied with your purchased plan you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within thirty (30) days of the initial purchase date of the subscription.

I would be more than happy to assist you personally with issuing you a full refund. In order to do so, I’m going to need to locate your account.

Please send me a message from your registered e-mail address at barry.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may assist you with this as soon as possible. Please add the link to the review when contacting us.

In June 2015 I opted for a $6.90/month subscription. The commitment was for 5 years, and I would be charged annually. To my surprise I was charged for $413.72 on 06/03/2015, instead of $82.75. After loud but tedious complaining they refunded most of the 4 year charges. As it turned out they still overcharged me by almost 10 dollars ($91.92) instead of the promised $82.75.
Surprise, surprise. I just checked my June 2016 credit card statement and MyHeritage.com charged me a whopping $175.12 (instead of $73.58 = $82.75 minus last year's overcharge of $9.17) on 06/03/2016. In the $175.12 MyHeritage included all types of extra features that I don't need, but more importantly I DID NOT ASK FOR or AGREE TO!

In summary:
MyHeritage.com advertises $6.90/month billed annually for 5 years. After complaints it becomes:
- first year, they tweaked it up to $7.66/month, and
- second year, they more than doubled the price to $14.59/month!

I just contacted my credit company and they put a block on MyHeritage.com for the next 4 years.

I had hoped they cleaned up their act after my complaint of June 2015. I can't anything else than conclude: MyHeritage.com has stepped up their unethical business practices.

I will further inform this forum how MyHeritage.com is responding to my second upcoming complaint.

Tip for consumers:
MyHeritage.com is the type of website where you NEVER should give your credit card information, because my experience is:
they will
1) overcharge,
2) "sell" you unwanted extras, i.e., more expensive(!!!) features.

MyHeritage.com is the type of company that adopted as their business model:
Count on
1) most customers do not carefully check their credit statements, and
2) even if customers discover errors (always overcharges!), they do not bother to go through the tedious complaint

They took out the annual payment ON the 14th day. I called to cancel ON the 14th day and they said sorry all they could do was credit me 50% since I hadn't canceled sooner. Made it sound like this was a big favor to me, well shame on me for falling for the alleged 14 day trial period. I'm lucky I am getting 50% back in 7-10 business days, yay me when I wasn't planning on paying anything. You would think to provide good customer service and to get GOOD reviews which would gain more business they would have spent the additional $35 to make me happy. Bad Business practice. Thanks for nothing MyHeritage. Not to mention I was on hold in queue at 18 and spent 25 minutes on hold which only proves to me everyone was probably calling to cancel!

I was under the impression MyHeritage was a free resource because the page I filled out originally said it was FREE! That page 'seems' to have disappeared. Simply looking for some help from support to correct a mistake I had made on an entry, I discovered this is NOT a FREE site at all! I began using MyHeritage March 16,2016 and I will stop using MyHeritage March 16,2016. I will NOT use any product under your false pretense or misrepresentation. The little bit of my tree that I had begun had me very excited to continue with MyHeritage so my disappointment is palpable. If this is not the correct place to post this notice, would someone PLEASE advise! Thank you, Pat

I have my father's family tree going back 4 generations, showing UK on both my maternal and paternal, yet, MyHeritage shows absolutely None, Since my brothers and I all have the same blood type, I have no reason to believe I may have different father.
My second complaint is their pricing to find out any further information of your tree, you have to Pay a Lot more money for only 1 more year.

Dear Paula,

I'm sorry to read your low star review and I will do all I can to help.

The autosomal DNA test gives you an estimate and does not measure your ancestor's migration patterns throughout history (further than 4 generations).

As you may know, an ethnicity estimate is based on comparable DNA. In regards to your ethnicity results, it is important to know that while we hold a very large amount of reference populations (42 and growing) they are attained on a higher regional level because DNA is found to be similar in neighboring countries, especially within Europe and where there isn't sufficient statistical difference.

It is true to consider that bio-geographical estimates are complicated. Different researchers analyzing the same DNA of a person can come up with different estimates based on a number of different factors, such as the reference populations used for comparison, the algorithm, the chemical processing and many more factors. Therefore these elements are consistently being improved in the DNA researching community as a whole and it is certainly our highest priority here at MyHeritage.

Moreover, while some companies provide many more regions to compare your DNA with, MyHeritage compares your DNA to a lot more ethnic populations. We find this most important as we are careful to provide all of our members with the most accurate results.

With regards to purchasing another membership, it is ultimately your choice. Many of our members benefit from other research tools we provide that is included and integrated with their DNA results such as DNA matching, ancestral surnames and comparing matching family trees to help understand their family story and migration patterns. MyHeritage offers an assembly of free and paid subscriptions that will fit your research and budget. This includes a free basic membership and a free downloadable Family Tree Builder program. Testing your DNA with MyHeritage provides you with two types of results that do not require an additional payment:

An Ethnicity Estimate - a comprehensive breakdown of your unique DNA composition. You will discover where your heritage originated from and how much each ethnicity is part of your ancestral origins, and even view the main life events of your direct ancestors on the Ethnicity map.

DNA Matches - This technology compares data from autosomal DNA tests results and family trees to identify matches between users that share genetic sequences and indicate a family relationship.

That being said, some features require a paid membership to ensure the development and upkeep of our research tools. We have several additional memberships that vary in price to accommodate one's research needs and budget. Some of our members prefer to only pay for some features as they don't really use the entire array of tools we offer. This is why we offer separate subscriptions along with a full complete one and a free trial for our data subscription.

I'd personally be very happy to assist you with choosing the best membership to fit your research needs and budget whether it be FREE or a paid membership. Please e-mail my inbox at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com at your nearest convenience.

Always happy to help

I used MyHeritage for a few years off/on before deciding to purchase a yearly membership for $199. I attempted to log in the following December and THOUGHT I cancelled the subscription but apparently not. IF it was my mistake, I get it BUT they sent NO NOTIFICATION that the membership would renew AND it increased by $116. WITH NO NOTICE. How dare they?! A day after the renewal charge I called and they refused to cancel /refund. SO I had to pay $315 for something I didn't want nor could I afford. I deleted my account and will tell everyone I know to avoid this unscrupulous company. There are other more reputable companies out there.

I wish I could review MyHeritage, but they can't deliver it--and a product is only as good as its support. I ordered a kit as a Mothers Day present, and MyHeritage used DHL to deliver it, ostensibly in "4-7 days". DHL got it to USPS 8 days ago for delivery according to DHL tracking, but USPS neither acknowledged receipt nor can provide any update to the tracking number's status. The DHL site says lost deliveries must be addressed by MyHeritage; MyHeritage says they will refund my purchase after 30 days; but that is the limit of their help. (They said, amazingly, USPS is a "third party" in the transaction and MyHeritage will not engage them.) True to its colors, USPS can offer no insight or help. (I just tried calling USPS customer service, 2 hour wait...) SO, probably a decent product, but nobody takes ownership on the logistics of getting it to me.

MDG lied to me and manipulated their offer. It is unethical and bad business practice. I would have not put a negative review if they would have taken the time to resolve or try and correct the issue but nothing was done. It is business as usual for them. It is likely I will not return as a customer due to their lies. If they would have tried to resolve the issue, I would not have placed a negative review. It is unfortunate that companies nowadays do not take their business practices serious. It is all about the money. I AM REAL CUSTOMER WITH REAL EXPERIENCES WITH MDG. I'd be glad to discuss this issue, but don't assume anything about my situation unless you are willing to discuss it.
