I am so grateful for being helped by Kerlin, and I could help my friend to utilize MyHeritage through familysearch person page. He was so happy to be able to use your MyHeritage useful features free. He will use his anscesters picures to colorize or animate or videolize. Thank you for your smart computer programmers.

If you're a My Heritage user with version 7 DO NOT under any circumstances upgrade to version 8. I did and I regret it. I have been happily using this site and tree for many years but since upgrading it has been a nightmare. I was unable to save any new information/ changes and although the help desk responded it had a tone that told me not to expect this identified bug to be fixed as they had other things to do. Um, okay... I would think that this sort of bug was really important. So in my frustration I still had version 7 on my laptop so I exported the data from version 8 back into version 7. Fantastic. I can save again BUT I cannot view any of the Fact Notes or Citations (even though the notes have an indication that they are there). I deleted my online tree and deleted all information off the site in case syncing was an issue. Funnily enough when I requested a deletion there were no questions asked, they just deleted everything despite me saying why I was requesting my information removed. Customer Service needs an overhaul - not version 7.

I find out my files couldn't be opened by FTB again. The Costumer Service was very hard-working and attentive. At the end they discovered the reason behing the error and fixed it, so I have recovered my files and I work again with them. Extremely grateful.

My experience in contacting MyHeritage Support was a complete surprise and a delight. I had experienced 3 serious issues that might have resulted in the loss of my DNA records or account. I had feared that these issues may not be fixable. I delayed calling as I thought, as my experience many other companies, they would say "too bad we cannot help you and purchase our materials again and buy a subscription." That was not what happened with MyHeritage. The Consumer Support person was very verbal and fluent, she got straight to the point and was able to assist me with very little delay. Not only did she address all my issues and create usable solutions but did so with an amazing positive attitude. I was impressed and this was worth gold to me. I thought: finally a company that really cares about customers and stands by their claim of true consumer support. I do not commonly write "reviews or give feedback" yet, this experience was so outstanding I was compelled to make it known in print. For all readers of this feedback, it must speak volumes.

I wanted to delete my membership to another site wich I never agreed on. I had it once before (a few years ago) and by accident I was being reminded that de account was nearly expired (not my accouny, but the other one, what I didn't see at that moment). So I did pay for one year. After that, I saw that it wasn't my account and you guys did fix it by putting that money on my own dite. So, to avoid again that mistake, you helped me to delete that account what showed up on my account.

Hello Mick,
Please send an email to Shane.vipsupport@myheritage.com from your registered email address at MyHeritage so that I may locate your account. In addition, please provide a direct link to this review and I’ll gladly assist you further.

Don't deal with this company.
1- The available information you get and pictures are from the hard work of other people/genealogist. Plus that information is not always accurate. They go with the voting system of "this is the most common answer".
2- No renewal notice each year. They take your money without prior notice. A company that respects their customers and value their membership let them know. Even if you try cancelling the same day, no refund, not with them, not with Paypal, not with your credit card. You're $#*!ed.
3- Price change and important increase without prior notice. Try debating this, even if it's in their agreement, you're still $#*!ed.
4- You want more data? Opps... pay a lot more and we'll let you peek.
5- Gave your dna from another company? It, s their now. You're double $#*!ed. How do you like that?
I will never, EVER got back with this company. I'm deleting everything after my forced re-membership. Want a company that respects you? Go on Ancestry. Go on anywhere else but them.

Hi Chantal,
I am sorry you feel this way about Myheritage and we are sorry for the misunderstanding and inconvenience and I will do all I can to help.
I have located your account and In investigating this issue I have ensured that you receive a full refund.
I'd also like to clarify the facts as I see you have written some spurious information.
It is indeed been proven that sharing information has benefited millions of researchers all over the world to locate and find clues about ones heritage.
That being said, Myheritage offers an assortment of privacy settings built in your site that will ensure your information is private if you do not choose to share your information.
While it is legitimate to investigate a Smart Match before you allow it to be merged into your research, we give you options to review and contact the site manager of the match (source) to debate any information shared.
The bottom line is if you don't want to use a matching feature to research your family, you certainly have the choice to disable this and maintain a private site.
Concerning subscription renewals, we inform everyone of the annual charge and its price on the automatic e-mail that is sent out after you enroll in the membership and after every renewal.
Also, one may cancel an annual subscription at any time when logging in to MyHeritage from the My Purchases page and incur no annual charge.
Furthermore, We are a refund friendly company and if you are unhappy with your purchase, our terms and conditions clearly explain one may cancel and get a full reimbursement
Regarding subscriptions, It is not possible for us to offer many record collections without a fee considering historical data comes from partners that require royalties on its use by customers.
Nonetheless, some records in SuperSearch are free (e.g. BillionGraves, Social Security Death Index).
We do offer a complete subscription that offers all research tools but many of our users prefer to only pay for some features as they don't really use the entire array of tools Myheritage does offer.
Because of this, we offer an assembly of subscriptions that will fit your research and budget including a free basic membership and a free downloadable Family Tree Builder program.
Lastly, your comment about our DNA is inaccurate. Myheritage will never hang on to your DNA sample or information if you do not want us to. Our Terms and conditions clearly state the following:
"The license you grant to us is not perpetual, and it is revocable as you are able at any time to delete your DNA Results and DNA Reports permanently from the Website and to have us destroy your DNA samples."
In closing, please know that your feedback is very important to us. I personally would like to help you in regards to your DNA privacy or any other questions you might have.
Please contact me anytime at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com.
Always happy to help

For $130 you receive the percentage of your heritage. That's it. Anything else you may be interested cost more money. Takes forever and the ethnic breakdown is bizarre and truly of no help

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has reviewed my initial post and I do hope that it has been helpful.
As a result, I would like to update you all on my situation.
I must mention that the most recent post by Rafael was made after several email exchanges between us with the penultimate one from me being on the 7 Mar 18, which read as follows
"Hi Rafael,
It is safe to say that I am very tired of all of this bureaucracy.
Surely the simple answer from you should be that you will have my sample retested by another researcher (I take this to mean person and not company).
I understand what you are trying to say but my point is that none of these enthicities that you all have manufactured have appeared in my genealogy going as far back as the 1400's.
Surely there is zero chance of your current result being correct especially since my parents are 1st generation Caribbean of Caucasian European descent".
This resulted in Rafael stating that "I just wanted to make sure that you know how your DNA is tested. I can send you a free replacement kit by all means.
In order to do so, I must forward this ticket to the appropriate department. Therefore, i will do this now".
I must highlight that I have never expected this to drag on for as long as it has. I have only ever wanted the professional and honest service which they claim to have in relation to DNA testing and the results.
Let's see what happens next but I am hoping that this is the final chapter since I would like to move on with more pressing matters of life.

I hope to have at least one victory if MyHeritage staff responds via this site since I got ripped off with the cost of the DNA kit and the so-called DNA results:(
I immediately replied to a MyHeritage email once they informed me that my results were ready for viewing a couple of days ago.
My initial reaction to the email was delight since my results were estimated for between 23 Feb-2 Mar 18. Nonetheless, I reviewed my results and I was confused and disappointed with the findings!
I have done substantial genealogical research and the Ethnicity Estimate does not even come close to my lineage. I am left wondering if those were in fact my results? The code seemed to be the one assigned to me but the results are just so far fetched.
I then found this site and emailed Rafael (MyHeritage Rep) in the hope that he would reply but no such luck. I note that in a recent post, Rafael alluded to some type of glitch which occurred a couple of weeks ago which affected the comparison of raw DNA to specific ethnicities but I am unsure if this issues has since been rectified.
I was born in a cosmopolitan country in the Caribbean and I feel that this is what MyHeritage used to assume that I was of Afro-Caribbean origin. The results showed that I was from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Kenya, etc.
In hindsight I should have posted a photo of myself and changed my country to the European country where I now reside and the results would have been very different.
I am mortified to see that according to this test; I do not have any Jewish, Chinese, Portuguese and obviously Caribbean roots (which I have) instead of that large Nigerian, etc percentage (which is news to me)... shocking!
Do you have a policy on DNA retesting? Or alternatively you can refund my purchase fee to a charity of my choice.

Beware: Tested at 4. As in Four different companies. 3 out of 4 were almost identical and enhanced my 15 years of research for my extensive family tree. I grew up in a family where pretty much everyone on one side of the family spoke 'French' looked French, cooked French. I created my tree using family stories, history, baptismal, marriage, census records, I also relied on other family dna matches, Ancestry's thrulines matches and in person family travel research. 3 DNA companies say I am very French. Myheritage.com shows zero French as in ZERO. Worst yet my husbands results were very incorrect also. He tested at the same 4 companies. Same thing 3 out of the 4 matched except Myheritage who had him with African ethnicity. Mind you he is testing 99% Northern, Eastern and Western Europe at 3 different companies that show zero anything in Africa. Worst yet several of his close family members have tested and not one of them show any African ethnicity. All I can say is this experience left us wondering just how many people out there believe their ethnicity is something it is definitely not? Best of Luck

Dear Sharon,
To provide users with Ethnicity Estimates, we started by figuring out what DNA from different ethnic groups looks like. More than 5000 participants have been selected to serve as references by virtue of their family trees exemplifying consistent ancestry from the same region or ethnicity for many generations. Thanks to the Founder Populations project MyHeritage offers an Ethnicity Estimate with 42 ethnic groups around the world. When we analyzed your DNA sample, we compared your DNA to those models to see what percentage matches each model.
We have a blog post on how our DNA testing works which you can find here:
https://blog.myheritage.com/2018/04/dna-basics-chapter-5-how-dna-testing-works/
A few common reasons for getting unexpected results are as follows:
Inheriting undetectable amounts of an ethnicity: If an ethnicity was passed down through many generations, you may not have inherited a detectable amount. That’s why even if you are absolutely sure that a certain ancestor had a certain ethnicity, you might not see it in your own Ethnicity Estimate.
Inheriting ethnicities from unknown ancestors: Unexpected ethnicities may have been inherited from ancestors you never knew about. Even the most complete family trees can be expanded. You might have inherited an ethnicity from an ancestor you haven’t yet discovered.
The random nature of genetic inheritance: The percentage of each parents' ethnicities that they pass down may vary. For example, one sibling might have inherited all of his mother's Irish DNA, while another sibling received much less or none. You do not necessarily inherit half of each of your parents’ ethnicities, which is why siblings are very likely to get different estimates.
Ethnicities with strong similarities: Certain populations have very similar DNA because of geographic proximity, migration patterns, and intercultural relationships. In other words, two ethnicities might be so similar biologically, that they cannot be differentiated by DNA testing.
There are ways to circumvent these obstacles with DNA research and with MyHeritage, you can pinpoint the exact location of where your roots come from many of our members will utilize the research tools available such as, building a family tree and finding comparable matches whether they be by doing Genealogy research or viewing your DNA matches.
Our match algorithms have been proven to automatically find and compare similar DNA strands along with ancestral surnames, records, and family trees to find very interesting discoveries.
Please note that bio-geographical estimates are complex. Different companies analyzing the DNA of the same person can come up with different Ethnicity Estimates based on various factors, such as the reference populations used for comparison and the algorithms used. Our genetic models are based on 42 ethnic groups around the world, thanks to our Founder Population project.
Feel free to e-mail me anytime if you have any further questions at shane.vipsupport@myheritage.com. It would be great to hear why you purchased a MyHeritage DNA kit if you were certain of your results with another provider.
Kind regards,
Shane, MyHeritage Team
When I had my DNA tested through MyHeritage, I inadvertently used a different email address, therefore creating a new MH site. My computer kept defaulting to this site and I couldn't access my tree containing over 900 members. I rang Evan in Ireland and he arranged with their IT department for my DNA account and Family Tree account to be merged. Everything went very smoothly, they sorted out my emails and passwords and I can now access my Tree and DNA together. I am very excited with the way my tree is progressing. Thank you My Heritage team - you provide a great service!

Entering into a fourteen day free trial it quickly became apparent that the site could not provide what I needed. I received notification that they had charged me £90.
When I contacted them to explain I would not be using the service I was told a refund was not possible. First I was offered a 25% refund with a lengthy explanation of how I was not using the site correctly. I patiently allowed the representative, Samuel, to patronise me for some time but insisted that I was not willing to pay for a service which I did not need and would not use under any circumstances. He then offered a 50% refund. I repeated that I was not interested and requested a full refund. He said this was not possible and that the refunds offered were something he had never done before and were exceptional. Eventually I lost patience with the hard sell and informed him that I did not have the funds available to pay and that if they persisted in removing money from my bank account I would be overdrawn and penalised by the bank.
At this point, despite his previous position, he said a full refund would be issued.
I have received an email from myheritage.com confirming a refund of £90.
I have yet to see the funds deposited into my account.
Moral of story: If you have the misfortune to become entangled with this unpleasant company do not be swayed by their insistence on payment, do not believe the lying representative, stick to your guns. Better still, do not sign up in the first place.
Update: Refund received by Paypal.
Tip for consumers:
DO NOT SIGN UP!

I found some very distant cousines. I didn't find the children or sisters of my grandgrandmother Weikum. But I think I will find them one day --because DNA tests get cheaper and cheaper but more and more deeper, and more and more people are getting tested. The support cannot do miracles but help to find relatives. Please get tested, only tested people can be found. Half family "disappeared" in WW2. So many died in WW2, and now we are a small family. But I hope we will find together. Greetings from Germany
