The MyHeritage team have just released a new application that shows you a world map and plots where your ancestors lived. How cool is that.
It really easy to use and adds an extra dimension to the experience.

Thank you MyHeritage team.

I'd like to congratulate and thank MyHeritage team and, specially, Sebastiaan, who provided all the information I need, with great kindness and patience. It is not usual to get such a quick and complete response from costumer services.
5 stars, hands down!

I've been on this site since December 15,2017 and I've found some information about my family. Since I've upgraded it to premium it's been off the charts. I know some things may not add up right but it's because some don't have the correct information. Also some people may not know that they may have a family book published out there somewhere. I know because I found mine but before I bought it I checked it out at the library. Most libraries will request it from that other library even if it's in another state. Happy family hunting.

Firstly, you can not determine ethnicity. I found this out through research when it said I was 100% European. I have pictures of Great grandparents that are American Indian. DNA is not at all accurate in this area. It is ok to help find possible relatives if you have premium package. That is if they let you access it. I purchased premium but overtime I try to access family tree of possible DNA match it says I use purchase premium which I did. This is not what it is cracked up to be.

Hello David,

I'm sorry to read your low star review but I do appreciate your feedback and I will do all I can to help.

When you purchase or upload a raw DNA sample, you are automatically capable of using DNA matching along with viewing your ethnicity estimate at no additional charge once your results are available. That being said in some cases, you may want to add to your tree using a premium membership that allows you to use our smart matching tools to add more family members to your tree. But, you can also add people to your tree manually with a free basic membership. I am very interested in assisting you to use your premium membership and inquiring more about why this is not working for you.

Regarding your Native American ancestry, I'd like to note that your lack of this ethnicity showing in your results does not necessarily mean that you are not Native American.

Each of us inherits about 50% DNA from our mother and 50% from our father. However, the percentages of DNA received from grandparents and further back are rarely divided evenly. Therefore, you don’t necessarily inherit the DNA of a given ancestor throughout the generations that have passed.

Since your ancestors’ DNA is not passed evenly to their descendants, one grandparent might have passed on 3% of his/her DNA to his great-grandchild, while another great-grandparent may have passed on 11%.

For example, if you have a Native American great-grandmother, you might have inherited such a small amount of her Native American DNA that it cannot be traced in a DNA test.

In addition, though you might have Native American DNA, it might belong to a tribe that is not part of the sampling used to build our Ethnicity Estimate. There are more than 500 recognized tribes which are ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse. However, the majority of these tribes have not contributed their DNA for research purposes which would allow science to establish better ethnicity models. Therefore, the fact that we did not find Native American DNA in your sample does not mean that you are not Native American.

If your Native American ethnicity does not appear in the Ethnicity Estimate, you might also consider testing one of your parents or grandparents as it is more likely that Native American DNA will be traced in the generations closer to the Native American ancestor.

Please e-mail me from your registered e-mail address at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may assist you with your premium membership issue as soon as possible.

Looking forward to helping you.

Sincerely
Rafael

Myheritage refunded 50% of the annual subscription cost that was taken from my credit card details previously lodged with them. When I sent a message querying this, as I had not asked for my subscription to be renewed, I was told it was automatically renewed unless I unsubscribed, The company rang me when they said they would, and as a goodwill gesture refunded 50% of the cost. That amount now appears on my bank statement.

Tip for consumers:
Beware of Myheritage, it appears they can debit your credit card without your permission.

Myheritage is just a big joke… they charged me for a 160 dollars subscription that I never agreed on, then I disputed, and they keep saying that the extra 5 dollars that I paid for the activation and Shipping was refunded too. When I have CLEAR screenshots showing that they were not refunded.
They want me to contact Groupon to send me a new kit. When the kit was bought WITH MyHeritage.com, not with Groupon. And now they don't want to release my results because of this 5 dollars that I never got refunded for…. Just a big scam….

Tip for consumers:
Just don’t… don’t use them. Use other better companies.

Bottom line first: The MyHeritage company offers shoddy results for the cheapest plans, so don't bother, if that's what you're considering. I do not appreciate the "upgrade for better results" games. You can map out your own chart just as easily and for free. I signed up for the trial, but I had to supply names of family beyond my parents generation, or else there were no results. I chose to cancel 5 days prior to trial ending because I wasn't getting anything out of it, but ended up being charged anyway. I realized the amount came out of my account at the beginning of the COVID-19 orders and had other things more pressing to address. So while stuck at home, I decided to give it another try as perhaps I missed something, but no. Shoddy and disappointing.

Dear Kristina,

I am sorry to read your review and would like to resolve the issue for you.

Firstly, I must clarify that MyHeritage informs all of any charge and its price on the automatic e-mail that is sent out after you enroll in a subscription and after every renewal or purchase a DNA kit. Also, one may view the status or cancel an annual subscription at any time when logging in to MyHeritage from the My Purchases page and incur no annual charge.

Your member experience is very important to us and we really do value the satisfaction of all of our members. This is why our terms and conditions read that If you are not satisfied with your purchased plan you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within thirty (30) days of the initial purchase date of the subscription.

The results that you get from the MyHeritage DNA kit are the Ethnicity Estimate and the DNA matches. If you wish to get access to the following paid features, you could upgrade your account with a subscription. When creating a family tree you will be asked for information like both sets of grandparents, your parents as well as yourself. We recommend adding as many details as you know, as this will help us make fascinating discoveries for you. However, if you don’t have information about any of your grandparents, you can simply click ‘Next’ to proceed.

Please send me a message from your registered e-mail address at barry.vipsupport@myheritage.com so I may assist you with this as soon as possible.

I will be looking for your e-mail.

Kind Regards
Barry, MyHeritage Team

DO NOT use MyHeritage if you are considering getting your DNA tested to learn about you ethnic background!
I submitted my DNA to this company on January 5,2017. Their website states that you can "view your results online in 3-4 weeks".
It has been 11 weeks and I have not received results!
After calling customer support dozens of times, I was able to get through once, (after waiting on hold for 55 mins) about 4 weeks ago, and was told that I would receive my results in about a week. Since then, I have called over and over, during business hours, and all I get is a recording that states that they are closed and to call back another time.
You would think that a company who has my DNA in their possession would at least make the effort to communicate with me

Terrible experience!

Needed Technical help as I had added wrong people to 2 trees and also had 2 other issues; spoke with Estefani - her expertise, customer service are outstanding! Willingly explained what needed to be done in terms I could understand & walked me through the different steps and to help me even did some of the work herself and so I wasn't on hold for any length of time she did the corrections an called me right back to double-check everything was correct. Estefani is a big asset to my heritage and to their clients. She was on the telephone with me for over an hour. My family has ordered 5 kits from them since April of this year with complete satisfaction. Thank you Estefani - you are an angel.

My recent beginner's experience with Support service was excellent. Every email came with a polite and professional response to resolve initial subscription issues. Looking forward to a detailed DNA result with roots to my ancestory, which is the key to what the platform is promoting, tracing and identifying matches from generations gone by.

My sister and I had completely different results and wrong countries of origin. Since we both know we have the same parents, ect and actually know our family tree back to the mid 1500's. My sister's also did DNA testing from two other places with matching results from both of those which would confirm accuracy. I want my money back. The results we got from my heritage are wrong without doubt.

Hi John,

Each person receives 50% of their DNA from their mother, and 50% from their father. But parents may pass a different and variable percentage of an ethnicity down to their children and are not necessarily divided evenly in each generation. Your parents could have had a very small percentage, too small to show up on their results, but you or your sibling happened to inherit all of it from both of them – adding up to a detectable percentage on your results.

That explains why ethnicity results in an autosomal DNA test can be quite different from parent to child or sibling to sibling, as we each inherit unique combinations of DNA from our parents that present different parts of our genetic history.

I utilized the free 14 days because my high school son had a family history project for school. We found tons of information and were able to trace some of our ancestors back to when they came to the states on a ship from Europe. We found so much information from other people's trees, too.

This site gives you access to many different databases and gives you so many variables to search to be as specific or as broad as you want. This is definitely something I'd be interested in purchasing when I have more free time... like if I EVER get to retire!

And while I had to wait on hold for a long time to speak to the billing department, Breck was very nice to talk to and very helpful.

I decided to put a star because I feel disappoint with MyHeritage's communication and customer service. They received my DNA test. On February 3/2019, I was initially given the preliminary date to receive the results between February 27 and March 2, today is March 6, and I just saw a notice on the page that is a little behind, and the delay is Extends for" only" a month and a half more, the new date of delivery of results is April 17. I have written emails without any answer. When calling the customer service numbers; it is almost impossible to speak with a representative.
For these reasons, I do not recommend using MyHeritage services. It is better to pay a little more and receive a good and timely service.

Dear Ruth,

I regret to find you low star review.

I apologize for the inconvenience of your results being delayed. I understand that you are awaiting your results and we are aiming to provide them to you as fast as we can. However, testing times may vary and the expected dates for the results are therefore estimates and do not represent a guaranteed delivery date.
We are currently upgrading the chip used for DNA analysis to a new and more advanced version. We are conducting this transition to the new chip with great care and diligence in order to provide you the most accurate results.

If you have any further questions regarding your kit feel free to email me at shane.vipsupport@myheritage.com

I think MyHeritage is a complete and comprehensive tool for having good control of your data. I really like a lot of the excellent possibilities of matching persons from your own family tree. Also when I want to add photos, web pages and nice prints of people. The PedigreeMap is interesting and so are are many opportunities to check for duplicates, incorrect dates etc. MyHeritage is outstanding

Them your creepy Telefon system is real trash...
Just spend time and energy for nothing...
All the email that I sended and information about this extra robery, anyone of them works...

Last year I accidentally applied for some extra information and did not realise I had to pay for it. Some months ago my account was debited with the $110 US but as I had been in hospital for a long time by the time I realised it was too late to cancel. I wrote to Gerard and explained my error and in no time my debit had been reversed and my account credited. No questions, no arguments it was immediately refunded notwithstanding it all being my fault. They are great people to deal with.
