When I opened up the website after paying 89 dollars for the "Premium" membership, I ran a query to find info on a relative.
When it returned an answer with a name and date, I opened it, but instead of getting the information I was expecting, the My Heritage page displayed something like, 'to get this file you must pay $XX.XX for that information"... (to paraphrase). WHen I bought this, I expected to get information, not a scam to get more money out of me. They are not being up front with this. So I canceled by calling. They did not refund my money, but told me they recommed I continue to use this worthless crap for the remainder of the year. (I had canceled within MINUTES of finding this out). Then I received an email, showing me "how: to cancel- which is totally bogus. I called for help, and they appear to have caller ID, which sent me down some rabbit hole promising they would call back. (this is the second or third call)
I called my bank and will try to reverse the charges on my card. Good luck with that. This is a rip-off for sure.
Tip for consumers:
Don't buy it. They are just there to take your money.

I needed to link a test to my family tree because I had not recorded a name as it stands on the tree when activating. A few clicks and it was done. Thanks.

The patience and willingness to understand and help was good.
I hope that the results of the conversation will bear fruit in the end.
Patience is a particularly effective tool in this field.

I have tried to connect with customer service since January 12,2017. I am currently using a free version of the site and have some questions about upgrading. It doesn't make sense as to why they won't respond to a customer who wants to upgrade service and become a paying customer.
I have called six times and have never been able to connect with anyone. They are either closed, at lunch (today at 2:41 pm), or "not available at this time."
I have also emailed via the website and received one email back asking for my phone number so they could call me. This conversation could have easily been addressed via email. I did give my phone number, but it didn't matter, I never received a call. I emailed the same email address again three times. Nothing.
I tried posting on the Facebook page. No response. I then noticed that ALL posts from people other than My Heritage official posters were deleted. I tried again and also sent 2 private messages with absolutely no reply.
As a last resort, I tweeted to My Heritage. Again, not a single word from them.
I know, I know -- I should have given up LONG ago. I do see the value of the site and hear from others that they have had some great results and have used the site to enhance their research efforts. I just kept trying. When I called today during their listed hours of availability and received a message that they were unavailable because they were on lunch break at 2:41 pm (their time zone) I decided I have had enough. It shouldn't be this hard to give a business your money.

I signed up for MyHeritage in February, 10th, 2009 23:02. A reason was that my father and grandfather created a family tree with the beginning from 1754 but all information was on paper only and therefore very difficult to read and look up it. I once read a review in magazine Computer about genealogy and programs which support it. I decided for MyHeritage because it was (and still is) for free:-). And because it was very easy to create the tree I stood with it up to now. Unfortunately due to lack of free time I interrupted the usage of MyHeritage for a few years. Now I'm retired so I decided to begin again. I wander what changed till now and if some shortages were repaired. It was very easy to create a tree but very difficult to do some changes and repairs, especially when he or she was divorced and married a few times or lived with boyfriend or girlfriend only. Nevertheless I managed to create our family tree and publish it for my relative. Maybe I will publish it for the wider public too and this way to allow the connections with the family trees from somebody else.

I've been impressed with the quick turn-around time and completeness of the responses from the support staff - not something that happens often these days in the era of outsourced support.

I faced a serious problem: I was pronted that my password was espired and had to set a new one but the instructions were sent to me by email to the email address that I used to register myheritage account which had been cancelled several years before so that I had no access to my instructions hence no acces to my account.
I sent an email to the Support Team of MyHeritage and thankfully Mr. Ron G. Could managed to solve the problem.
I would like to state here my positive experience with the Support Team of MyHeritage and wish to thank Mr. Ron G. For his valuable help and assistance rendered.

Very knowledgeable and answered completely all of my DNA related questions! I would like for your research department to focus on "New Mexico" Heritage DNA related testing. E.g. "Sephardic" ancestry rather than just saying "European Ashkenazi", and specific Native American Ancestry e.g. Pueblo (Tewa) Tribes and "Genizaro" (Detribalized Indians brought to NM as Slaves by the Colonial Spanish Settlers here in the 16th Century who became assimilated into "The Spanish Culture" of New Mexico.) Also, keeping in mind that New Mexico's history is much older than any of our surrounding States, including that of California.

Something went wrong in the cancellation of my subscription and MyHeritage started to debit my credit card for a full year. The man in the support was helpful though and gave me a refund of the fee.

I was very disappointed when I received my results. I can trace my maternal family history multiple generations and to various European countries. I have documents, I have family trees, as well as, recorded history. I wanted to find out what percentages of those countries were in my DNA. Surprisingly it was basically zero!
I first got my results in the spring of 2017 and then later in the summer I got an email from My Heritage stating they have a new beta software so I clicked on it and my results changed. Still, there wasn't much about the known European countries I can trace my family history to but the results changed. For example, the first beta results came back with 0.9% Native American. Then when upgrade beta came out I no longer had Native American DNA. How can this be?! Every time they come out with a different beta will my results change?
If you know you're family history and you have documentation to prove it don't bother with taking a DNA test. You might not be happy with the results they provide you. Based on the results I got I had to ask my mom if I was adopted. Thankfully she said no.

Hi Jim,
I'm sorry to find that you are unhappy with your Ethnicity Estimate and understand your concern. I'll do all I can to help.
As you may have heard, DNA tends to be very similar in between people in neighboring countries within Europe. This is found for various reasons such as people moving around frequently and official borders and communities being occupied. Therefore where there isn't sufficient statistical difference, the ethnicity estimate is retained on a higher regional level instead of showing you a pinpoint location. (see our 42 supported ethnicities)
As you may know, DNA is calculated by comparing your DNA to other reference populations that are known in the DNA research community. We find that focusing on the actual DNA match instead of a countries borders that have changed throughout history important.
Nonetheless, it is true that our Ethnicity Estimate is in a beta status because we are in the process of raising our number of ethnic regions. We have proudly referenced 42 ethnic populations and this number will be growing even larger in the future.
With regards to your Native American heritage, DNA is also not found to be evenly divided throughout the generations and some of your family can inherit more of a specific ethnicity than others. One may inherit more European DNA than Native American DNA depending on how far back your ancestor is from you.
In addition, many of the Native American Tribes have not been a part of the sampling used to build reference populations in general. Within the United States alone, there are over 562 recognized Native American tribes, communities and Native villages. Your concern is a fairly common one and there is a lot of literature on it online.
That being said, I understand that you are trying to pinpoint the exact location that matches your research or family story. This can be done by utilizing the research tools available to you such as building your own family tree and finding comparable matches whether they be Genealogy or DNA matches. Our match algorithms have been proven to automatically find and compare similar DNA strands along with ancestral surnames, records, and family trees to find very interesting discoveries. New DNA is uploaded every day and the chances of that new information to match your research are high.
MyHeritage has been assisting millions for over a decade with their genealogy research and your feedback is paramount to our growth and development.
Therefore, I would like to assist you with your DNA results and find out why you thought you were adopted. I'd also like to answer any other questions you may have with the highest amount of priority.
Please e-mail me personally at rafael.vipsupport@myheritage.com, I'd be happy to help.
Kind Regards
Rafael

I signed up for your plan at a discount of $89/year on January 28,2021. I tried to cancel my subscription within about 2 hours because I discovered that one feature (colorize photos) was available only under the Complete Plan which costs much more. Nowhere in the chart of features for each plan was Colorized, and tried to cancel about 2 hours. I tried calling the toll-free number for customer service and hung up because it would take over an hour to speak to someone. Then I called their billing number (24/7) and could not speak to anyone, but could leave only a voice message. Then I had to hunt for an email form or email address on the site, and that took a long time to find but a response has not been received yet - nor (unlike other companies) give a time in which to expect a response to the issue.
Though I tried to cancel my subscription I did not delete my account because I was concerned I'd lose my account number needed to cancel and get a refund.
I could not find any information on the website about cancelling the account if not satisfied.
I have since contacted the Better Business Bureau.

When my dna kit got stolen, MyHeritage DNA was really generous to offer me a new kit. This website is so easy to use and they have the best price. Really awesome place to get your ethnic DNA tested!

I saw the MyHeritage DNA kits are on sale for Mother's Day. I went to order more than one, and saw that there is no price break for shipping, to send multiple kits to the same address. Why not?
Date of experience: May 8, 2017
Dear Douglas,
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
Unfortunately the shipping costs are not something that MyHeritage can do anything about. The shipping costs are provided by the postal/shipping companies used. We do take this in to consideration however and this is why we have from time to time special offers such as the mother's day sale and our normal DNA kit price is one of the lowest in the market today.
Trusting this has proven useful to you.
Kind Regards,
Dean,
MyHeritage Team.
I am just getting to know the site, but I found the customer service department and in parthicular Marianne to be very good at resolving a membership issue. She was a pleasure to deal with.
