We rely on Nextdoor as a communication vehicle for our Neighborhood. It does perform that way, but I find sifting through all the ads and people selling things diminishes the effectiveness of the tool. Posts, Replies and "For Sale and Free" all share the same level of importance via the fonts used. I feel that people may tend to just discard the entire email and not catch an important neighborhood post buried in there.
We tried to warn others about produce issues at our local supermarket. Some of the users on the app started attacking my wife for it. When we defended ourselves, they removed the post and we were reported for violating their standards. Yet, they did nothing and idly sat by while others chastised my wife. User beware, or better, user do not bother! Further they will try and gain access to your contacts and harass all of your friends and family to download their app. And finally there is very little effort on their behalf to prevent fraud, scams, or data protection.
The persistent belittling and bullying between neighbors is unacceptable and counter-productive. What's the point?
If the leads claim to uphold guidelines to promote decency and respect, they should uphold those guidelines.
People, please don't post anything on this site unless you are willing to be attacked by your fellow community members in a very public forum.
Nextdoor is a great concept. It unifies neighboring communities. I have gotten great references (some not so great) on many workmen, etc. It's good to know what's going on in the neighborhood, sometimes on an hourly basis, when you're at work. Alerts us to suspicious persons in the neighborhood.
Sometimes some people get into little spats and can get rather nasty. I wish there was a way to curb that behavior. Also, I'm not crazy about the new format. I liked the old one better. It was easier to skim through.
I like keeping up with community events through Nextdoor. I aapreciate when folks review a new business or restaurant in the neighborhood. I also find it helpful when people post burglaries and pictures of suspicious people on their property or describe vehicles repeatedly driving by. Addresses are never posted which is good for security but people will say what neighborhood they're in and sometimes the street they're on.
When airplanes were flying over a lot during the summer, I was glad to know other people were bothered by it, too and it was helpful when someone posted information about why that was happening.
I really like next Door app. It's a great way to meet neighbors and get referrals for service people, contractors, plumbers, vets,
Book clubs, walking groups, You need to be careful because they allow anyone to join with lots of made up names and people looking for business. We have a mall near by and every employee at the mall can join as if they live in the neighborhood...
I wish they had a way to verify your residence in a community! Still love the platform...
I learned that all of my neighbors are racists, afraid of anybody that walks, rides a bike or skate boards through the neighborhood and have nothing better to do than peak out their windows or watch their security monitors. Neighbor have commented "Profiling works". I have reported people that profile only for it to fall on deaf ears. If you want to know which of your neighbors is ripe for klan recruitment, this app is a wealth of knowledge.
I've been harassed by leads. I offer Tupperware community services like free fundraising and warranty replacement. I understand about not promoting your business. The last straw, I simply posted items for sale and realized I was blocked after a crime watch alert was denied. Door to door carpet cleaners caught on video pushing for a sale and "no soliciting" sign on door! Checked my email for notice from nextdoor, but there was none. Poor leads in my area! *******
They never tell you what posting or statement you made that violates their so-called Community Guidelines. As a result, we are never given a proper opportunity to actually appeal their decision when they deny you access to your account either on a temporary basis or decide to shut your account down permanently. This site also allows bullying and hateful comments made to other neighbors, when the site even states that don't allow bullying, which is constantly happening to people that neighbors have never even met in person! Nextdoor also doesn't provide any phone support or an E-mail at anytime, so that you can talk to a live person.
I find it useful for learning of neighborhood events, selling and buying items, and communicating about happenings to our community. An example of this would be the discussion on the Missing Middle zoning changes.
Worse I have ever experienced.
I tried to advertise my business with next door,
They have charge me $142, a month for the past 5 or 6 months and I haven't seen an ad on their site yet. More significantly there there seems to be no way of contacting them, no phone number and they won't call you. See the rating they have. They will only try to take your money.
I have been using this site for about 2 years. The leads are lazy and do not keep up with the guidelines. Therefore, there is a lot that people just put up, which is very against the guidelines. The actual area perimeters were stretched too far south so that the founder, who set up the perimeters, could include his pals. Ridiculous. On and you can only be a "lead" if your child attended the elite private school in the area or if you are related to the founder. Such bulls%t!
Women - don't let your neighbors know your name or address, period. You can't even delete the account - only deactivate it. Some serious, horrible, power hungry idiots who privately threaten you at the slightest sign of offense, even in the absence of offense.
Really, really awful. I wish I never joined and I hope no one managed to screen shot my contact info before I realized it was PUBLIC.
It's a great way to keep in touch with what is happening around your area. I wish sometimes people would keep their negative comments out of the posts. Sometimes it is just mean not constructive at all. That would be my only negative comment
This is absolutely the worst website, run by the worst people. A Nextdoor employee in my neighborhood repeatedly harassed neighbors, including a sweet elder lady who posted about her missing dog. This company clearly is funded by someone with an ulterior motive, to influence elections and whatnot, because the leads carefully filter any posts that have to do with local issues to only allow one type of voice on the site. I strongly urge NO ONE to be a part of this website or company in any way.
Why can police use next door so heavily for a "private social network". How can police use it for their "we see you" program on terminally ill cancer patients using cannabis. Should the program be used for dog poop all over, or everyone tossing cigarettes from car windows, child beaters, or the 54 registered sex offenders within a mile?
Most of the time the information shared is very helpful. I really enjoy being up to date on traffic, weather, safety issues, construction, etc. I would prefer not to read postings where people are bickering back and forth and won't let the subject end. I think they should be forced to use direct or private messaging and leave the rest of us out of the loop. Thank you.
After a year of membership on Nextdoor, com, I have observed that its liberal management stifles free speech. So called "Lead" people are capable of having posts that they do not agree with removed with little or no explanation. Complaints to Nextdoor management fall on deaf ears... So, why waste ones time...?
Nextdoor only allows open and free communication as long as you are only posting about kittens and puppies and rainbows. If you delve into difficult community issues such as a corrupt police department (like in Franklin Park Borough, PA), your posts will be taken down and you will be banned from the service. It only takes one complaint and your post will be removed. Even if the other neighbors appreciate the information and give positive reviews. Nextdoor is a typical weak social media site. They prefer to remove and harm the poster of the information, rather than the complainer. Welcome to social media censorship. It's not very social.
I have watched our city become connected through Nextdoor. Lost animals are reconnected with their owners quicker, questions regarding city services are answered the same day. Residents voice their dislikes and concerns without fear of reprisal. This has been very positive for our city.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
Nextdoor has a rating of 1.9 stars from 3,047 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 503rd among Social Network sites.
