Very helpful tool
December 21, 2019

I look into Nextdoor several times a day to see sales, free items, neighborhood information and local planning highlights as well as info on restaurants and leisurely activities. This plethora of information always pays off and is worthwhile the little time it takes to read.

Security nightmare!
February 11, 2017

As others have said, if you want all your personal data displayed in the public arena then go ahead and sign up. I didn't. I also was enrolled as a lead automatically, against my request, with no vetting. This meant I got sent emails with all people's personal addresses and names in. I immediately contacted nextdoor and asked them to take away my lead status. This has still not been done, several days after my first request. I have tried changing my address to one around the corner as I live in a small street but now I can't access my account at all and guess what, still no response from the monkeys NextDoor.

I have loved ND from day one and have encouraged others to join. I have met new people, made nice connections to trade, sell and share. I really appreciate when local, state and national issues are discussed as I learn a lot. I mute people who are cruel, who label and are demeaning to others with different views. Some conversations go on longer than I am interested in, so I just stop the thread. I am VERY VERY disappointed that one of our most intelligent, loquacious members was booted recently. It has made me think twice about being part of ND. I had no idea the organization arm would censor members because I can do it myself if I need to. I am looking for an alternative community network at this time.

Worthless
March 7, 2022

This app is worthless. People piss and moan over every little bull $#*! and totally lie about their neighbors. Only thing I can see it good for is finding a lost or found animals. Better off not having period. I have deleted this crap app.

Completely unfair
September 19, 2019

Got bullied by several people because they didn't like one thing I said. I even requested that the other user pm me like it suggests in their community guidelines, but nextdoor kicked me out They still left posts up where the main bully identifies my property. They won't remove it and I feel it's a safety risk.

Fascists
March 17, 2021

I have been put on time outs many times and then thrown Off Nextdoor for good. My crimes? The first time it was for helping plan a Trump Golf Cart parade. So, I went back on, but had to use my middle name and maiden name to do so! Then, I posted TX Senate Bill 12, which is written to force Twitter, Facebook, NextDoor to not be able to cancel you for your views. In other words, to cancel you if you're not a progressive liberal. The leads are liberal fascists, and here, where it's 80% conservatives and only 20% liberal, if you post conservative views they ‘ll send you a stupid note calling you uncivil, or hateful and take you down! Yet they allow the progressives to call you names, bully you, gang up on you and even make veiled threats against you and yours. I hope the bill passes, because it's like being on a Kindergarten playground dealing with these people! Nextdoor are cancel culture, leftists, book burning, bullying thugs from San Francisco. Pure and simple.

Back to basics
November 3, 2019

I like most of there content on Nextdoor
Like the police activity, weather issues road conditions lost and found wanted /for sale and neighborhood activities.
What I really don't care for is when its used as a sounding board with a lot of things that other people Should do.

Nextdoor is like facebook for a neighborhood and is as useful as the members make it. Where I live Nextdoor it is an important resource & connects us to about 10,000 people who live in & around our much smaller neighborhood. The posts are wide ranging from discussions of greater community topics like... which roads are passible during a flood, to lost and found pet reports, or recommendations for service providers. Surprisingly, some simply ask for help & usually, a kind soul will step in to provide what was needed. Overall, Nextdoor helps us be a community and that's a good thing.

After speaking w/several people in our community who also received a"Nextdoor.com Invite postcard" from the same "neighbor", we'd agreed that speaking w/"invite Sender"for more info was needed. Unfortunately...
After both extensive community & internet research, we learned that the "invites" sent were NOT from anyone living in our community... NOR living in our State!
I truly hope my story helps someone else avoid a similar scam. Good Luck & Take Care All!

I've been a member on NextDoor for about 3 yrs now, and I've found it to be a great place for giving and getting advice on anything from dentists to dog groomers, cleaning people, and things to look out for (suspicious activity) as well as meeting new people in and around your neighborhood. I personally have met a guy who shares my passion for electronics repair, and we've become very good friends. Sometimes things get a little sticky when people start talking about politics or whatever, but it's just people expressing their opinions and it's a good place to do that also...

Depending on your town and how well your lead monitors discussions, it could become a site of hatred and close mindedness as it did in my town. God forbid you have a different view than someone on the site - you get verbally attacked and told to move out of town. After living in my town for 16 years, it wasnt until Nextdoor came around that I started to feel threatened and ostracized for everything I said ( and I dont even know these people). Simple things like responding to a post about how nice it was to see wildlife in the town would turn into a name calling rant about how we should shoot the deer. Definitely a sit for adult bullying

Horrible Left Wing Group
February 20, 2021

Nextdoor is a terrible attempt at trying to create another social, privacy stealing, site similar to Facebook. Nextdoor does it by utilizing your area and your neighbors to break through your privacy concerns. Next they start shoving ads at you that make you wonder how they can even know you have purchased similar products in the past. Trust me... we don't need another privacy invasion site in our lives. I had to force Facebook to delete my account years ago and now ill do the same with this one. Run while you still can!

It is helpful often times, but can be filled with unnecessary drama, like many social media sites. It isn't really regulated or monitored at all, so often times neighbors can just pick fights, disagree, and get ugly. But, there are some very helpful "neighborhood alerts" regarding some very important issues. Many, many, lost cat and dog posts, coyote postings, etc. I like the "curb alert" feature, where people put free stuff out. Yard sale posts are nice. Police and crime posts are the ones I look at a lot. Once the local police departments start getting involved, it can help a lot with preventing and dealing with crimes.

Don't know if it's our educational system or human intellect is going downhill. But people on this site seem to be lacking in many intellectual areas. There is an inability to comprehend, decipher, summarize, or analyze. Connecting the dots to discovery is not obtainable for a number of people that cater to this site. Therefore they resort to bullying, criticizing and rude comments. No ability to talk a disagreement or topic just their opinion is the correct one. Out of control people who can't argue a point so they resort to criticism. Very sad state of affairs that there r so many stupid people. It really scares me for I thought I had an average intellect. But if this is an indication of our societies abilities we r doomed. Nextdoor is really a cesspool. Only use to find businesses I need. Stay away from the people they will scare u into the realization of how pathetic the human intellect really is!

While the concepts is good, several things are not thought through resulting in creating conflicts.
E.g. How to add reviewers or leads. Today the process is. There is no process. Someone in the community recommends and next-door seems to be taking their own decisions based on that. Should have vetting of existing leads / check with more people.
Groups. Concept is good but can overwhelm the experience.

I am not very computer literate (older person), so I have not learned how
To really use the site. Need assistance on that. But have personally
Contacted people where pets are concerned whether lost, or needing a home,
Etc. (I run a dog rescue). Have found things to purchase, and some things were given to me! Good for information, contacts, and reaching out.

DISGUSTING SITE!
May 20, 2019

This site has been very detrimental to our neighborhood. Turns out to be an outlet for a multitude of unhappy people who can do nothing more than bash everything. I truly wish that it had never been used in our neighborhood and fortunately there are a lot more of us who wish it would just go away.

Nextdoor staff offers no help when seeking solutions to an intolerable situation.

The Pros and Cons
July 18, 2019

The pros of Nextdoor are: great for info on neighborhood events, crime, lost pets, seeking recommendations, seeking help, listing items for free or for sale and general 'stuff'.
The cons of Nextdoor are: becoming a platform for debate regarding all manner of issues with posts sometimes being quite negative and judgmental in nature.
I realize this is an open forum, which allows any of us to exercise our right of free speech. Just find it frustrating at times and don't believe it is the purpose or spirit of Nextdoor.

As a founder and ex lead I saw first hand the inconsistent decisions by moderators. Obvious disrespect towards a person was left up and it seems for bias. Another reason to remove a post is the context sets off moderators because somehow they feel the comment is harmful. They are determined to remove it so they have a broad rule. No local topic outside of a group. I have had a rule changed just by having them look at it closer. I plan on suggesting they stop censoring unless it breaks the rules set out in the guidelines directly. Maybe moderators need moderators.
