Joined next door as i thought it would help me find out important info about my community. But their default setitngs is your address - ok NOT your postcode but who needs that when you have someone full name. Ie Mickey mouse 4 any street any town, and your all in any town or its neighbouring towns, so easy targt for anyone to find out your address and then find out when your home/out etc. Why do they insist on using real names and FULL addresses that are made public. Ok so they say you have to join to find out that info - well any idiot can join, all you need is either a fb account or an email address! So so wrong. They need to sort out the privacy policy!
I was invited by a neighbor to join 2x, the first time, my account was disabled for defending myself on neighbors attacking me. The second time, same thing. The third time, I only engaged on animal welfare posts, and without warning, my account was disabled. The site is full of neighbors who are vulgar and does not allow conservative views. Any little hint of conservatism, you get called vulgar names along with vulgar words. This site is toxic. Glad 3rd strike I'm out.
I wrote a post making neighbors aware of two Hispanic teens repeatedly walking through the neighborhood. Then two people complained of it being vague. I explained why I put it out. Possible casing neighborhood. Never seen those boys. Ever.
Well post was removed because they said my post was vague. I repo fed to email and then they deactivated my account. After I responded. I explained again maybe they should have read the post and the neighbors who appreciated my post and encouraged me to keep making people aware. Some thanked me also.
I feel that that Nextdoor app employee didn't like that I responded to the email they sent in disagreement. To me that's unprofessional. That employee turned it into a personal issue. And use THIER position to take revenge.
I live in the Aviara neighborhood in Ca. And our lead Carrie has decided this is her personal site to publically shame neighbors and shamelessly promote her own business. Since she is the lead, she controls all posts. What a joke. She is single handedly taking what could possibly be a great site for exchanging ideas and services to one of paranoia and un kind comments. I hope Nextdoor employees read some of these posts and re design their current business model, since they apparently have plans to monetize the site by adopting a "Craigslist" business format
In my opinion, the app is difficult and frustrating to use; it doesn't even make sense. The help section didn't help me at all. The only thing I use it for at this point is the entertainment value-thumbs down for any other purpose
I love to learn about what is going on in the neighborhood but there seems to be a small group of negative people that seem intent on focussing on what is bad about the area. Referring to Point Loma as a ghetto, etc.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I have been trying to get assistance from Nextdoor Support since November 3rd. As of November 8th, all of my emails and support tickets have been ignored. There's no phone number to reach a ND representative, only support tickets, which means we are completely at their mercy. This is completely unacceptable. If we could stop using ND, we would, only our business listings would remain (you can't remove them) which means false or non-updated information may occur which is not best practice for our clients.
Pretty great idea. I get email updates. I think it would be faster to use next door if I could read more in the email instead of it linking me to the next door app which takes more time and steps. I usually abandon the idea of reading more at that point, which is a bummer.
This site has provided information, suggestions, and has enabled me to make some new friends! I've even been able to pass along helpful tips to others, hoping to be of some assistance. Love this service!
This site displays your full name, and address and also the exact location of your address on google map without your permission. It has no regard for anyone's personal security and has no intention of changing its security policy. It is an American company with its EU headquarters in Dublin so is not subject to the jurisdiction of the UK Information commissioner. Streetlife has sold all its members down the river by selling out to Nextdoor. There are a couple of possible alternatives you can join - neither of which give out your personal information. They are www.kahuti.com and www.streetabank.com
I was a member of Nextdoor for about three years, until being banned for one year due to the comment I made below. Yet, when a Lead sent me a Private Message (below), he was banned for about four months, came back and is STILL a Lead.
At the very least, I would have thought ND would have stripped his "Lead" status after saying what he did to me. But no, that despicable person's "punishment" was a slap on the wrist in my opinion, compared to mine.
Apparently, in a parallel universe to which Nextdoor.com is a portal, my neighborhood is being overrun with murderous homeless people, Hispanics and blacks up to no good, and coyotes snatching and eating young children (none of which are actually true). In the several months I was lurking and participating, it got to the point where I actually cringed whenever a notification badge came up on my phone. So I deleted both the app and my account.
Basically, Nextdoor.com is a cesspool of nosy parkers, paranoid agoraphobes, and right-wing conspiracy theorists. Stay away if you want to keep your sanity. Instead, stay grounded in your actual universe by getting to know your neighbors on a face-to-face basis, inviting them to your yard BBQs, offering to collect their mail and watch their houses when they're away, and letting your kids play with theirs. You know, how actual neighborhood relationships are built and nurtured.
It is a rarity to find a website for neighborhoods that is actually safe secure and not phony!
I was a little skeptical when I first got on this site about three years ago when I was in another location and when I move to my current residence, I immediately got back on this site! Why? Trust! I can get accurate information, "converse" with neighbors throughout the area. I have not experienced any breach of privacy,
I've been suspended from Nextdoor twice now. First for using the term 'thug' when referring to the rioters and looters. The second time for pointing out someone is 'mask shaming' after she admitted she lectures people if they don't have a mask on EVEN if they have a medical condition.
This is one useless little site. If you want biased (from friends and relatives) recommendations for local businesses, if you want to know all about the lost/found cats and dogs in the neighborhood or hear the constant whining about off-leash dogs and irresponsible dog owners that dont pick their dogs poop, if you want to provoke the ire of your neighbors by posting about issues of substance or exhibiting a sense of humor, then this is the site for you. Otherwise stay away because what will happen if you do post something thought-provoking is that you get reported by your good neighbors (that were never taught as children that tattletaling is bad) and you will get censored and banned from further posting. This is a site for little people that only care about little things, everyone else gets silenced pretty fast.
I posted, "...^^^an opinion." and
"...^^^another opinion." which resulted in my suspension, and ultimate expulsion from this group. I was informed that my suspension would end September 14,2018. What's the date now? What's interesting is that now... the "Contact Us" link is inoperative... go figure.
I joined NextDoor and for the most part find their discussions pretty informative, and useful, especially information about suspicious people in the neighborhood. In my town of San Jose, the SJPD is heavily understaffed, and the thieves have been taking advantage, burglary is up almost 400% here. Next-door is trying to provide a decent platform, but as soon as I could see that this was a great tool for savy criminals, I started to question the use of using our real names and address or street name. I feel that one who wants to find out specific info on a neighbor, by joining the network, one is actually making themselves more vulnerable to identity theft, or a target for burglary. Some people who want to join and meet others, may share too much info about themselves on their profile, welcoming criminals to profile them. I changed my last name and within a day was reported and kicked off. I miss the forum, but I value my identity and want to keep my family safe.
People who make friends with their "Lead" can get away with Murder! I hate the way it's run, some people get suspended for minor infractions, while "friend's" of Leads keep over-posting and using foul language, and NOTHING happens to them! Ridiculous!
The site was useful for sharing or collecting information regarding criminal activity in the neighborhood. However, I signed on with a pseudonym and I was kicked off the site because someone complained about my last name being Xxxx. Being a public safety official, my information is redacted from public records to protect me and my family. They kicked me off for being cautious, but disregard the class 3 sex offender on the site. Thanks a lot.
Good so far. I just don't have enough time to dedicate to keep up with it. The validation of neighbors is not realistic because I just don't know them and they are too many blocks away.
I'm also not sure on the monetization of the platform is something that is clear. Like is this going to be the next facebook? Infested with ads everywhere? Is this going to be "cured" so we see only some post and not all of them?
I'm in a small town so there is not much going on anyway
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
