Someone else wrote a review with the title Nextdoor Nazis, and I'll never be able to say what he said better. Very censored, creepy. The leads are right-wing women who stay at home. If you don't agree with the crowd, they say you have violated the terms of service. Yuk! I can't imagine they'll stay in business much longer.
I like hearing updates on the area or recommending new restaurants and services. Being able to post items for sale is also a nice service. I could do without the bickering between members on certain subjects. Not sure why I haven't received any notifications in months...
I highly recommend this medium, it is a great resource to share emergency news (ie.: missing pets, bears in the neighborhood, theft alerts, odd jobs, yard sales, free stuff, block parties, etc.). A neighborhood is safer when its residents care and keep an active neighborhood watch.
Our neighborhood NextDoor is run by a right wing clique. If you disagree with their position on posts enough times, they ban you from the app without emailing you or giving any reason. They don't respond to your emails asking why you were banned. What a nice concept that is being run into the ground at various local levels. I saw bullying, threatening and vulgar behavior by a select few who were never reprimanded and then I saw people who pointed out the opposite point of view get banned. Over and over again. Our neighborhood ND has lost many good neighbors due to the bias and behavior on this website. I'm not sure why anyone would want to spend any time on this app. It's awful.
NextDoor is a great site/app that provides lots of terrific and timely neighborhood information. We find it helpful in many ways; crime alerts, neighborhood events, items for sale/free, lost pets, and recommendations.
I've been trying to get rid of some stuff at our house and hated the idea of doing a tag sale. We've done them before but it's such a waste of time and effort for little return. So, when I posted an offer for an item and received 6 very interested replies in less than 30 minutes. I'm hooked and will not go through our entire house to see what we can part with while trying to downsize and simplify.
I've also recommended plumbers and an electrician. Folks on the site are thoughtful in their responses. And, like a good neighbor, I'd like to help others with their needs took. Thanks Nextdoor!
I use ND all the time to check on yard sales, local recommendations and safety info. I've met such great neighbors when I've gone to pick up fresh eggs, honey and all sorts of free stuff. Probably most dear to my heart is how ND helped me get my dog back 2 days after workers accidentally let him out. Thanks NextDoor!
Other than the few instances where people recommend local businesses like plumbers, tree trimmers and painters, the site is totally useless. Oh sure, the occasional lost dog notification is sometimes helpful.
Beyond that, Instead of being able to discuss community issues/concerns, with all sides being heard, the bullies, mostly of the 'ultra-compassionate' variety, always have the final say-so, and those disagreeing with their bleeding heart views are 'reported' and/or banned. A big POX on NextDoor -- useless tripe.
This site has a double standard regarding local teachers/tutors while allowing large corporate business to promote. It is not neighborhood friendly and is a scam. Shame on you Nextdoor. Just another deceitful company.
I find Nextdoor to be a useful tool keep neighbors informed, buy/sell, and find recommendations. Sometimes people get their feeling hurt when opinions are shared, but that's normal I guess. My experience has been a good one so far.
This is a great forum for sharing information relevant to our neighborhood. I especially like getting referrals of vendors that my neighbors recommend. I only gave it 4 stars because sometimes a small percentage of the users will use it to complain excessively about some trivial matter which can get really annoying.
I was on this site (for Toronto) for less than a week, after a few comments on a post about dogs in parks some people ganged up on me, reported my comments just because they didn't like my opinion (I dared to say that in these Coronavirus times when the dogs parks are closed people should maybe not complain so much about dogs with no leashes) The comments were removed, I then cried "censorship' and I've been called a "troll" by the Moderator/lead. One of my comments reported and removed was " I'm afraid of bicycles, some go soo fast" see screenshot, go figure. Terrible experience. The mods/leads are unreasonable, they don't practice what they preach, very hurtful and not helpful at all. I've never imagine that I could encounter this level of censorship in North America! Pathetic.
You cannot EVER voice a conservative or patriotic opinion without getting slammed by a swarm of liberals, and I mean slammed on your face. It's always the same toxic mob who resorts to vulgar name-calling, and threatens anyone trying to defend themselves with "I know where you live".
One woman make the fatal mistake of describing some boys, who covered the limestone in our botanical gardens with graffiti, as black. Oh the horror! You would think she had just founded the KKK. Thankfully, our police chief, who is black, intervened on her behalf, and reminded everyone that race is given on a police report. It's just not worth the drama to be on Nextdoor. It sucks the joy out of life.
Speaking from a professional security point of view, this is one of those sites where readying the "terms and conditions" and "privacy policy" is a must. You are basically giving www.nextdoor.com full access to all your browsing history, physical addresses, personal details and many other things that would be severely ill-advised to do.
Stick to facebook community pages.
ND is an ok app and useful for some activities. However, the leads are very biased and group together against neighbors, especially when reporting their biased moderation. Rick Solomon is a lead who pressured the closing of a thread only because he was religiously associated with the person who had happened to be racist in the thread. I reported this and tried to resolve it directly with the lead through private messages. What do you know, after writing me several rude messages, I get banned. Seems fair.
Last 4th of July I posted a patriotic, pro police, pro fire fighter thread to thank our local hero's. It triggered some anti American leftists and the moderator, who was also a left wing lunatic closed my account. This company is made up of ex Google socialists out of San Francisco California. I think you are getting the picture. If you love America and patriots as I do., you may want to stay clear of Nextdoor.
Nextdoor purposely makes it easy for other users to find where you live, yet they claim it's a private site. The people that run, moderate, and provide customer support, both sidestep issues on the platform and lie about it's safety. Furthermore, they levy the claim of "We believe that when members use their real names it builds trust and accountability and leads to more useful information sharing." (direct quote from an email from their customer service) while not holding themselves accountable of what is likely to happen when another user tracks you down if you say something they don't like, which has happened before!
Nextdoor is a danger to all of it's users.
Listings don't show up for agents as promised. When I contacted customer support they said we need a direct feed to Nextdoor which just didn't sound right because most places pull directly from MLS. So I contacted my broker with the contact they gave me. They never contacted them.
Had to furnish condo to move in my 88-yr old mom. We found fabulous buys, great condition, great prices, from furniture to household to kitchen. Easy pick up and the nicest neighbors. Some people donated things, too. She's much happier now than she was in assisted living. Thanks, Nextdoor!
Everyone should become members It could benefit in many helpful ways I haven't personally been involved in any activities but it is great to know what is happening around us. That way we can keep an eye out.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
