With my husband, we used Rentalcars.com to rent a car in Brazil, Florianopolis. We organised the booking through rentalcars.com with the actual rental company on sight being Innova.
We booked the car for a few days starting immediately on arrival in the Florianopolis airport late in the evening and we took it for granted that the representative of the service will wait for our flight to arrive as they specifically highlight that we have to provide them with the flight number. Otherwise they are not going to wait for us. Our flight was delayed and when we arrived, there wasn't anyone waiting for us. Nor there was any signs that they had been waiting.
We took a taxi and had to come back the next day just to hear that we were no-shows and if we want to get a refund, we have to contact the rentalcars.com, which we did. They kindly told us in an email that we should contact them again after the actual rental is over and we have the signed contract with the rental company, which we did. There was no reply for a week. When the reply came, it was a joke. Basically, they told us that we read the Terms and Conditions and according to them, it's our personal problem that we came a day late to pick up the car.
Really? C'mon, guys, how is it our problem that your partner company's representatives did not wait for our flight to arrive?
Very-very unprofessional. Not the type of service you would like to experience.
Definitely will never use again either rentalcars.com or their partners and will talk out my friends or acquaintances out of doing it.
I have just learned how sleazy this company is. They are unscrupulous and unethical in my opinion. I say so because: If you have to cancel a booking shortly after you have made it (9 hours), due to your trip being canceled (visa issue), You obviously have to cancel the pickup of the vehicle as you have committed to picking it up as per the booking. My booking was done at about 8pm the evening for a pickup the next day at 1pm at Johannesburg OR Tambo airport. Say an 18-hour window. My flight was canceled at about 2am the morning and I have responded on the website to cancel the booking. I had to; no other choice. Now the shock! rentalcars.com charge you 20% for canceling and they argue you have agreed to it? The rental company (Avis, Europcar, Thrifty's, etc) can't keep a vehicle ready for you and you don't pick it up. The rentalcars.com website only offers one option: cancel with an excessive fee of 20%. You don't know this before using rentalcars.com. So how do you cancel but don't agree to the outrageous 20%? They add a statement to the cancellation that you accept their fee. They don't offer any choice! Totally unscrupulous! Obviously, you don't accept it! But on the other side, you must cancel to prevent fees from rental company (Avis, Europcar, Hertz, etc) for not picking up? Rentalcars.com know it and abuse the situation to make easy money.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY
I read the reviews and decided to use this company to rent a larger vehicle. I needed to transport a service dog for the children's hospital I work for in South Florida. Our new service dog was in training in Georgia, and I thought a small SUV would be more comfortable for her on the 8-hour trip to her new home.
When I arrived at the airport to pick up my rental I was asked where I was going and when I said Georgia, I was told that I could not take the car out of state. OK, no problem. Please refund my money as you have to pre-pay, and I will use another rental agency.
Problem #1 – The contracted company at the airport has no means to give a refund and gave me 2 phone numbers to call
Problem #2 – Nobody that answers the phone can do anything to help. I was even told "this is a loss for you". They were rude and argumentative. Perhaps they have done this to other people so they have experience.
So, I was charged the moment I booked, did not receive the vehicle and then a refund was refused. Sound like a customer serviced focused company to you?
I finally got someone to respond to an email and was asked for additional information. That was 2 days ago and no response.
I recommend that you use a reputable company when you need to rent a car or risk getting taken for a ride!
Very bad company. They charge you 3 days even if the vendor doesn't give you a car when it is not yo
They will not make an exception to change a reservation 1 day even for military orders and they were incredibly rude.
Used rentalcars.com on my vacation to the UK.
They were great and went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy customer
Will use them again
I had made a paid car reservation online with rentalcar.com to pick up April 15 2022 at CWB airport in Brazil. Upon arriving I went to the local car rental (Movida) to pick up the car, but the agent did not allow me to have the car. They said that my application was denied. I had already paid for the reservation US$548.64.
I tried to contact the phone number rentalcar.com provided at the reservation documents, but it was a fake number, there was also no local number for me to contact rentalcar.com. The local office agent told me that since the contract was not made, my refund was going to be automatic. I had to get a tax and pay a lot of money to get to my final destination. After I was able to have internet service, which was the following day. I emailed rentalcar.com explaining the situation. Rentalcar.com's only answer was that I was not going to have no my money back. I try to explain that I was abroad with no correct phone number to contact anybody, but no one even considered anything.
Do not rent from Rentcar.com its all fake.
After googling online cheap car rental companies in Canberra/Sydney Australia... rentalcars.com came up. Do not use this company... based in the UK, 3rd party agents for car rentals companies in Australia. After reading the fine print., there is an automatic $80AUD cancellation fee. $3000 - $3300 deposit/excess holding bond even with car insurance included. And then I find out the car insurance policy covers them... rentalcars.com??? If I wanted to take out car insurance with the actual car rental company in Sydney thats another cost on top. I also emailed the car rental company in Sydney and asked them what their holding deposit was...$1000 only? Going back to www.rentalcars.com they insisted bond was $3000-$3300 was clients charge and correct. THEN when you think thats the final cost you get hit with overseas transaction fees?... Of course I cancelled my booking now I am chasing the rest of my refund, partial payment received and still waiting for the rest. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... ITS MORE TROUBLE THAN WHAT ITS WORTH...
