So you see all these bad reviews of Restaurant.com. I took advantage of a great deal. 100 - $50 cards for $500 from Citi Easy Deals. That $4500 of free food Just avoid these assumptions: 1) It's not off any restaurant. Get a Visa Gift Card if you want that. Enjoy your fees. 2) It's not a free meal. It's up to half off the total bill. You can use the remainder elsewhere. 3) It's one use per restaurant per month. Not getting 1/2 price sushi every weekend. Goto a different restaurant tomorrow. 4) You have to log into the app to find the card to redeem. Yes it shows your name. Got to log in anyway. That bugs me! Lose one Star. 5) Let the server tap the screen to redeem. You will hit one of these the first time through. After that it's discount city. Got my food budget in line through some hard times.
The entire experience was a scam in conjunction with a travel service. Was promised $100 in Restaurant coupons for attending sales presentation. Spent hours on the phone, with email, and online trying to obtain four $25 restaurant certificates. Never received any certificates and gave up.
THE MOST DIFFICULT WEB TO MANUEVER AROUND IN, COULDN'T FULLY DOWNLOAD VOUCHER, TRIED TO CALL THE COMPANY FOR ASSISTANCE, GOT HUNG UP ON (3) TIMES! IN MY AREA THEY MOSTLY OFF THE WALL MEXICAN PLACES, 1 DECENT GREEK RESTAURANT - NEVER EVER AGAIN WOULD I USE/NOR RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY - THEY'RE A JOKE - THEY RIPPED ME OFF! TOOK ME FOR MY $30... TRIED TO CANCEL ON MY CREDIT CARD SINCE I COULD GET NO HELP - NO SUCH LUCK... LESSON LEARNED...
No Customer Service Whatsoever! I waited on phone for 1 hour and finally hung up. I emailed them on 9/22. It is now 9/29 and I have NO Response from them at all. Horrible!
I've been a customer of Restaurant.com for almost 20 years and have learned two things. It's terrible, but it's workable. The key is "Caveat Emptor" = "Buyer Beware". Here's how to make it work for you.
1. Go through their available list of restaurants
2. Sort your choices by size of $$ cost
3. If you have a credit of more than the largest $$ cost, go after the largest first
4. Read CAREFULLY the use limitation (Days, Hours, Max savings $$ on Min purchase $$)
5. Review the posted menu and prices
* if 4 and 5 aren't available, pass by them
6. BEFORE you order a certificate
a. CALL the restaurant to verify their acceptance and terms
b. Buy the largest $$ cost certificate you want
7. Work you way down to a final $5 certificate cost and buy it last
If you're going to give someone else a gift voucher, ask the recipient what restaurant out of the available restaurants they like, then do the above and buy the specific restaurant certificate to give them the.pdf of it so they can use it directly.
Once you get down to $5 credit, that's all you can get. You can't (but they can) combine credits. I have 4 x $100 plus 1 x $50 plus 1 x $15 plus 5 x $5 credit. IF I CAN EVER GET SOMEONE ON THE PHONE (rare), they will combine all the the less than $100 credits into the largest amount possible for this process to start over again.
My wife and I received a $100 restaurant.com gift card as part of a wedding present. The thought of $100 to be used at a plethora of restaurants excited us both. Of course, I found out one evening when my wife and I wanted to enjoy a meal at a good restaurant that: a.) the $100 "gift card" has to be used to purchase "gift certificates" on the website, which are then printed-off. B.) Only a few restaurants in my area even participate. C.) The stipulations on the gift certificates for the restaurants in my area that do participate severely limit the possibility of receiving a good deal (must purchase a certain entree; not usable for purchases below $50; not applicable on weekends; must purchase two entrees...).
I have only used half of my credit ($50) as the experience with that was too frustrating to make it worthwhile to pursue any more "gift certificates." For anyone considering giving restaurant.com "gift cards" to a friend or relative, be aware that it might not be such a great gift after all. Restaurant.com must make tons of money by applying so many limitations to the use of their supposed gift certificates!
Website:
You type in a promo code, says it is applied, makes you choose an offer, makes you sign in, then the promo code DISAPPEARS! You re-search for the offer you chose before, and then there's NO place to re-enter the promo code!
You try and forget the promo code and use previous credit you bought, and the website doesn't even let you use it! It's like one big continuous loop making you accidentally buy more gift card credit.
It makes it seem like you can merge different gift card credit to buy one big offer, but the website won't let you.
App:
Tried it on the app too, and when it says it added your credit there's a dotted circle that keeps spinning and spinning then doesn't go anywhere. Wasted way too much time on this website and have probably $50 tied up in it.
Customer Service:
There is a phone number that says to order by phone, maybe because the website and app sucks so much ya think? When I called twice the phone line was busy. Seems like the only time the phone line ISN'T busy is after hours when they are already closed & the automated machine picks up telling you when their business hours are.
Overall:
Restaurant choices suck. They used to have better ones, but I think over the years the website has gone downhill and is just too hard to order anything once you do find something you might like.
I just used my coupon, but it was a bit of a hassle. The waitress didn't add our sodas to the bill so we didn't make the $35 minimum purchase. I had to talk to the manager and ask why non-alcoholic drinks were not included in the minimum price purchase and she fixed it for me. We all had lunch for $10.00 + $6 tip, so that was nice, but it was a bit of a pain. Has anyone else had a restaurant try to exlcude non-alcoholic drinks? DEFINITELY CALL THE RESTAURANT AHEAD OF TIME TO GET THIS STUFF WORKED OUT BEFORE YOU SHOW UP.
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM it IS a scam. Tried 10 times to redeem a gift card but it will not work (on different days). I enter the number, their system says I have a $50 credit, but when I go to pay, the credit disappears and redeeming the gift card is impossible. I CANNOT COMPLETE ANY TRANSACTION using the gift card. It does not even offer the gift card as a payment option once I get to the shopping cart -- it only asks for a credit card.
I am simply NOT going to trust a company like this with my credit card information! I'd be willing to bet $100 that if I entered my credit card info, I would be billed for the transaction rather than have the "gift card" applied -- that is exactly what other people have complained about.
STAY AWAY and do not give them your credit card number without reading about HOW MANY people have been screwed by doing so.
I hope the owners do not have children -- all we need is a world with more people like them!
Needed to exchange gift certs for restaurant that closed down... ive tried the web page over 20 times and ive called a dozen times. And never works, NEVER! I mean NOTHING! I have EIGHT certificates that all are to permanently closed restaurants. Ive tried to "EXCHANGE" these through the web site but it NEVER worked. I typed everything precisely as it should be and it tells me the code i typed for proof im not a robot is ALWAYS incorrect. I emailed and only received a generic "HOW TO EXCHANGE" reply. IT'S NOT WORKING! Therefore, generic responses do NOTHING. I tried to call and the phone says the customer service number is OUTSIDE MY CALLING AREA! Wtf is THAT?!?!? I just want a HUMAN to TRY and understand my frustration. The app and or web page BLOWS! I need REAL help! From a HUMAN BEING! What an UNBELIEVABLE hassle this!
USELESS! ZERO STARS! P. o. S.!
Please tell your friends to AVOID THIS CRAPPY so-called "SERVICE" spread the word, THIS SITE IS A SCAM!
As a business owner I have delt with alot of businesses and there customer support. Restaurant.Com was by far the worse company to deal with and they do not understand business ethics.
- No one to answer questions so no customer service
- restaurants that changed owner and they don't even know of the certificates
- Really bad restaurants that no one would normally go to are listed
Tip for consumers:
Don't use it
The worst site for cs. The product is ok (maybe), but useless if both the site and phone unresponsive. Can't get in touch with techs for 3 weeks and right n
Tip for consumers:
have tons of patience

I bought (3) $25 gift certificates, and I only spent $30. They were specifically for Casa Country Mexican Grill in Goodlettsville, TN. I was very excited because this was going to help me take my family out for my son's birthday. Our bill was $86 before tip. I pulled up the gift certificates on my phone and took my check to the cashier. She looked at my phone and immediately called the manager to the counter. I knew then I was screwed. He looked at my phone, chuckled then said "yeah, we don't take those" I reiterated the fact the the name on the certificate was specific to that restaurant and location. I explained to him that the only reason I drove over an hour to eat at Casa Country in Goodlettsville, TN was because of the deal
I had gotten online. He responded that it wasn't his problem, and there was nothing he could do for me. Then laughed at me and asked how are we supposed to make money like that'? I felt embarrassed and angry, one because of his rudeness and two because I felt like I had been screwed over by Restaurant.com. What originally was going to cost me $14, after $75 in gift certificates were applied, ended up costing me $131 ($86 for the meal, $17 for the tip, and $30 for the restaurant.com certificates). The night started out great but ended not so great because of poor and unacceptable customer service from both Casa Country Mexican Grill & Restaurant.com. I would even go as far to say that maybe it's not just poor customer service, maybe it's a scheme to take consumer money by advertising amazing deals that really aren't deals at all.
Bought 3 certificates. Tried using the first one and the restaurant said they do not take the certificates. Owner of restaurant told me they contacted restaurant.com 5 times to stop selling the.
The overwhelming majority of the restaurants offered are not very good: bad service, bad food, over priced.
Restaurant.com doesn't care. If they did, they would not offer such horrible places and would have some sort of standard to not have such awful places on their site.
Restaurant.com does not offer any refunds, only credit for exchanges. Their website does not offer you enough information about the restaurant, only boiler plate descriptions ex: "For good times and great food, come to XXX".
I made the mistake of buying several certificates and after trying the first few, decided to research the remainder through Yelp.com and found ALL OF THEM RATED AS 3 STARS OR LESS! On Yelp, anything with less than 3 stars is bad. I've NEVER found any places on restaurants.com that had 4 stars and certainly not 5 stars (highest rating).
And again, Restaurant.com will NOT PROVIDE ANY REFUNDS, only exchanges to more mediocre restaurants in their listings!
SO, if you want to save money and don't mind bad food and bad service, then by all means, use restaurant.com
I have been sold giftcertificates 3 times that the particular merchant that it was suppose to be used for won't except and once you tell Restaurant.com about it they still continue to sell them to scam others and also do not refund your money.
I also had bought several TJ's $25 giftcertificates that required you to make a minimum purchase of $35 and have been printing them and using them occasionally when I was in that area. I went to go print out one of my giftcertificates today that I had already bought and paid for and THEY CHANGED THE TERMS ON MY GIFTCERTIFICATE!
It now states that I have to purchase a minimum of $50 to use my giftcertificate. That is NOT what I agreed to when I bought these certificates. How can they change the terms like that?
If you have any giftcertificates I recommend you printing them all now before they change the terms on them.
Restaurant.com is a scam and should be sued to pay back everyone that they have scammed!
Pappones has the worst customer service, their pizza is below average, salads are not fresh and it is not a clean environment. Beyond a waste of money!
Bought 4 lunch certificates and 4 Dinners certificates, when i went to use them at the restaurant i bought them for, I was told they already been used. Did not use the coupons and was very upset to be told I could not use them because they were already cashed in?
SCAM... DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
I redeemed a promo code for $25 credit on restaurant.com. After I used the credit to purchase a gift certificate it said it added it to my account, but it didn't. Now I have no credit or certificate.
Very few participating restaurants and minimal allowance of Restaurant.com credit. Must make much larger restaurant purchases with only allowance of minimal credit. Total Rip-Off!
Some restaurants participate if you're spending cash, but don't participate if you're using a gift card. Once you select "redeem gift card" the list of available restaurants shrinks. Gift card scam.
It's a ripe off. Because they don't show clearly to the restaurants what's the rules
Are. For a $ 15 coupon a customer must make a
Order of $ 37.50 minimum to get a $ 15 off
This is NO DEAL at all!
First, I got a $25 gift card to redeem at the site. So I logged in and by the next day, they lost my account info. The CS support team is clueless. Eventually, they emailed me later that week and fixed everything.
Second, there are NO restaurants here that I'm remotely interested in. I thought they'd have popular restaurants. I've never heard of the majority of these places.
Third, they are constantly out of stock. I've been waiting for a certificate on a restaurant just down the street since December last year. They just got them in yesterday and today their out of stock again!
So finally I cashed in the $25 certificate for two $10 and a $5 certificate at a sushi restaurant (that was all that was available). In the fine print is states that I have to spend $20 for each $10 I spend and $10 for each $5 I spend. So now I have to spend $50 to receive $25 off. And to top it off, I can't use the three certificates together (didn't I receive a $25 certificate to begin with... to spend all at one time?). I can't even use them in the same month. How nuts is this?
restaurant.com - total ripoff!
They sold me a coupon for a restaurant that did not exist. They will not refund money. They want to exchange. Maybe for another restaurant that doesn't exist?
They change the terms on the certificates without consulting with the business. Think that's ok? They change the terms on certificates that have ALREADY BEEN PURCHASED! I have hard copy proof of that.
Didn't know you had to be a lawyer to use this site. While it will CLEARLY displays the mimimal amount of Purchase from the restaurant, it DOESN'T CLEARLY inform you that you can only use a segment of a certificate. For THAT you have to thoroughly read & understand the lengthy terms and conditions. Imagine my surprise, disappointment & dismay when, after ordering food for my family - I was only able to use $10 of a $50 certificate. Not only was it embarrassing - the money spent could have been used at the supermarket & I would have prepared the meal myself!
