I have a Premium account with Roommates.com. Why are all messages going unread? I've never had this happen in the past. It's like no matter how many potential roommates I reach out to, this is happening. Frustrating..

I spent the money on a premium membership and completely regret it. I reached out to over 20 people and got a response from one. Let's do a side by side comparison!

Roommates.com has been giving me successful results for over four years. I've learned to use this tool effectively; thus, I always find outstanding roommates on this website: financially responsible, respectful, discreet, clean & organized.
I get the VIP membership for the most effective results.

Great results 3 years ago to find tenants/roommates. Lately we don't even get a real match, all of them are miles away and not even within our preferences, and our preferences are wide. We have a 4 bedroom house with 1 of the other 3 rooms available for rent usually twice a year. This last time trying the website we decide not to pay subscription anymore because the last two years we didn't get any potential roommate to even look at the place, so it was a waste of money. Attached is an screenshot of today visit to the website, we are looking to rent a room in our house in Kent WA, the closest "match" is looking like 10 miles away from us.

This site is pretty nicely laid out. And seems to be effective at finding roommates. BUT this site is a professional scam. I made a listing looking for a roommate at our house. I received multiple messages and with curiosity I paid for a 3 day membership to read and reply. So it seems that the responders now need to pay to read my messages if they don't put their contact info. That a scummy tactic. If one side paid, why don't allow other end to read and reply no matter what.

BE WARNED! This site was built to function as as professional SCAM.

I found a roommate from this site within a couple of weeks. I signed up for 30 day access. I really liked that the cost was reasonable and that I only needed to pay for a short period of time. I dislike sites that keep billing my credit card month after month. Also, the email feature protected my privacy. I feel the platform allows people to connect and share their requirements and photos with ease. I will use it again in the future if I need it again.

I had several people respond to my profile with one prospective roommate that was perfect. The person asked to see the room then no more of my messages were read and I don't receive anymore messages. I know they were unread because under my message it said unread. I believe they don't want to actually put roommates together, they just want you to keep paying for the service. Beware!

I've been wondering why people never message me back and end up in-active on the site. And then when someone sends ME a message, I finally find out why.

Why is it necessary to pay a fee in order to read people's messages? How is anyone supposed to find a roommate if you have to pay to see each other's messages? Please consider fixing your website.

This a great roommate finding service that I have used a few times over the past 10+ years. It doesn't get any easier to filter the kind of roommate I'm looking for. It's definitely worth the small fee rather then weeding through spam and weirdos on free sites. I've gotten many quality roommates and will continue to use their service if I need one again in the future! Thank you!

I came on site jabber to do the review for roomster.com - because it absolutely sucked with 1 fake lead and tries to auto-renew your membership, while roommates.com actually gave me real leads and got me a room.

So after reviewing roomster.com with 1/5, I decided to take a look here, and surprise, 1/5 also!

From my view roommates.com worked, so it deserves at least a 3/5.
Since the sites needs to make money, it's totally understandable to charge people for its service. Now, if only it allowed FREE members to read messages sent by PAID members, I'd give it a 5/5. I'd imagine it will drastically improve chances of a good match, and not as many messages sent with no reply.

I wrote a very detailed and comprehensive description of my place, myself and what I'm looking for. But I could not paste it into the Field on the site without it appearing as one large paragraph with no spaces.
There is no attempt made to match what you are looking for with prospective Roommates.
I got daily "matches" from people I would not consider. (too young, too old, not a match, not even same city)
All messages back and forth are treated like texts. Press "Enter" and message gets sent. Incredibly difficult to communicate.
All this after spending the $15 to read profiles.
Complete waste of Money and time.
Unless website for finding prospective roommates.
I found great people on Craigslist for free.

If you're looking for a roommate, Roommates.com has twice found me a great roommate. Their matching technology is spot on. As long as you enter your information correctly and fully, you will get accurate matches. You can also message with potential roommates to discuss things before actually meeting in person. You can weed out anyone who you might think is not a good match. If I ever need a roommate in the future, this will be my first stop.

My experience has been pretty much the same as all of the others. No legitimate emails. I had a couple that were so clearly fraud with misspelled words and very poor English. The sender claimed to live in my city but from the statements they made it was obvious she had never even been here. If this was an email that they let through what must the others that they stopped be like? Terrible!

I am glad I read the reviews first. I will pass, it sounds like Roommates.com is using deceptive advertising to lure in customers. Not good because customers are unhappy and feel mislead. Free is Free, period. Put your charges up front vs hiding them behind a dark face. Be Honest. I almost signed up, something told me read the reviews first. I too thought it was totally free as there was nothing in the wording that indicated their would be a charge later. Deceptive Advertising. Roommates pre-worded explanation is just a well written script but that's all, it does not truly feel sorry for misleading the customers or does it address each of your reviews.

I just wanted to make a simple compliment. I'm not sure of the exact date, but about 13 years ago I found a roommate through Roommates.com and we are still rooming together through two apartments and one house. It was so easy and fast that I recommend this site to anyone looking to share whether they own a home, rent an apartment or just need a room to crash. So thank you Roommates.com for helping me find mine and still being here for the people who need you, both young and old.

In my opinion, this site is only after your $30. You can not see maps of your perspective homes, or even communicate with people, until you pay $30. I sent 11 messages, in 3 days, and not one response. I sent a e-mail, for advise, and I was told to do power search. Still no responses. These were all types of homes, and all types of people. It's not like I was a poor choice. Employed w/ the same company for 3.5 years, 710 credit score, at my current residence for 2 years, quiet, no drama, no baggage. Be careful, you have been informed!

Roommates.com has the best interface, cheapest and most fair membership policies, and ultimately where I found my new roommate. Other websites like Roomster tend to be sketchy and try to scam you out of money with hidden automatic membership renewals.

I found a roommate thanks to your service, which is the entire point of you being in business, so thank you for the excellent work. It only took a few weeks. Now, I can comfortably move into my new place.

This company might be ok if they were upfront about what you can do for free.
I spent a week desperately waiting for a response to my messages to get a roommate fast (i got a job offer in a different city and need to move fast), only to receive a message, and find out that i can not read it or any message without paying.
If they told me this up front, it would be ok, but waiting to tell me this after i have wasted a week of my time and someone else's seems really dishonest.
Honestly, craigslist works much better and is free.

I give the company credit, they responded to this review, quickly, calmly and in a professional manner. However, in my experience, most companies will provide a checklist of features at each price point upon creation of an account, so the customer is not unpleasantly surprised and forced to upgrade.
But i am really impressed with how fast they replied to this, good work.

This site is a huge waste of time and money. You can create a profile for free, but you are completely unable to use the site for finding a roommate without paying for a subscription fee. Unfortunately, most people do not pay for a subscription fee, so your emails to roommate matches will go unanswered. The only response I ever got was from a scammer.

Their profile system is horrible too--you cannot select gender without also selecting a sexual orientation, and the only options you have are straight male/female or gay male/female. I'm sorry, but not everybody can be compartmentalized like that and I had to misrepresent myself just to create a profile--not something I want to do when I'm looking for somebody to share a living space with me.

In short, don't waste your time or money with this useless site. Use Craigslist if you actually want to find a roommate.

There were only 4 matches, probably because I'm an older man. Still, one of them replied via Roommates email, and after a few exchanges, we switched to our regular emails, and I was accepted! I had not heard of roommates.com before another friend told me about it, and I'm obviously glad I gave it a try. I only paid for 3 days, and that's all I needed.

Roommates.com is a great service that connects you to trustworthy people. I found a great roommate from this site! Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I don't get nearly as many leads as I do from other sources [i. E. craigslist and facebook], but in the end Roommates.com was the source that ultimately allowed me to reach my goal. Very easy to set up and free to use

I'm a new member and I have already been reached out to by scammers within 24 hours of being on the site. I have found one real person but aside from that it has not been a positive or productive outcome. The scammers also get aggressive.
