“Frustrated”

I have a Premium account with Roommates.com. Why are all messages going unread? I've never had this happen in the past. It's like no matter how many potential roommates I reach out to, this is happening. Frustrating..

“It's a HUGE scam”

I read the reviews and I am a believer of all that was said, they constantly send you msgs claiming you have a match, but no one ever responds, when I tried to call to inquire before I pay, they don't respond just ask to leave msgs that is never answered, it is a HUGE scam don't pay these guys they are trying to rob you

It was well worth it to find a roommate through roommate.com. I had a few accounts with a few different websites, but ended up finding a roommate through this site.

If you are into the catfishin, creepin, swingin and pedophile thing then has Meta got a great new dating app for you! Join Roommate dot con and make all your nightmares come true and more than likely lose your life's savings and dignity on the way! Not 100% sure that it is owned by that robot Zuckerberg but all his Meta Businesses are linked up to this app so probably! Don't be a dumbass and fall for this app like I did. Thought that it was legit for finding a house share or roommate situation but got notifications that some creep or another creepy guy or woman was "the perfect match". I am not into the swinging creepy pedophile looking guy scene but hey to each his own if you want to go in that direction with your life then have at it. Not me, no way and no, no, noooo! Ewwwwe!

This site $ucks! Almost impossible to post or do anything unless you become a member. They make it nearly impossible to navigate, post, edit, respond - and basically use the thing. DON'T DO IT!

Hello,

It’s unfortunate that you had a hard time figuring out how to use the site. Here are some steps that might help you out.

To begin the process of looking for a roommate, please create an account at our website, www.Roommates.com. This can be done by clicking on either the Get Started tab at the top of the website, or the Join For Free message in the middle of our homepage.

Once you fill out all the necessary information, our Matching system will begin looking for matching members and post those on your account for you to view. To edit any portion of your profile, you will first need to log into your Roommates.com account. Once logged in, click the Edit Profile link on the left-hand side of the website under Account Settings. From there, simply click the Edit button next to the appropriate section and you can begin making your changes. When you are through, click the Save button.

Once you find a member you feel could be a good match, you can send them an email from your account Mail Center, or click Contact member in the top right of their profile page, all for free. If they reply to you, you can then upgrade to Choice Membership to read their message, with fees starting as little as $5.99 for our 3 day trial.

If you hit it off with someone on our website, you can then plan to meet in person to further discuss becoming a roommate.

Although our website is a self-service website, our Customer Support department is more than willing to answer any questions you may have concerning your account at support@roommates.com. Feel free to email us if you ever need any sort of assistance.

Good luck in your roommate search and please contact me if you have any further questions.

Thank you,

Roommates.com Support

They allow you to sign up for free and don't tell you that you can't read correspondence unless you pay them. While I could afford it, I will not give them money now. I feel scammed.

Hello,

It was not our intention to mislead you regarding the membership options. You can post your profile, see others profiles, and send messages to other members all for free. You even have the option to include your contact information in the messages you send if you wish, so that only one member would need to pay for a membership in order to contact each other outside of the website.

If you have additional questions about how to utilize the free portion of the website please contact us at support@roommates.com.

Hello,

I am sorry that you felt misled on the website. That was not our intention. On the More Info tab we have a frequently asked questions page which includes information to answer questions such as, What does it cost?, How does it work?, Why should I become a choice member?, etc. This information is posted clearly on the site to give you as much information about the site as possible so you can decide if our site would work for you.

When we started this service, we designed the site so that people are able to utilize the website without purchasing a membership and many of our users have successfully found roommates this way. You are welcome to list your contact information in the comments section of your profile and include it in any messages that you send out. All outgoing messages are free and you can see the nickname of the member on incoming messages.

As with most websites, there are added benefits to purchasing an upgrade. Those benefits include having full access to your roommates.com emails as well as being able to view larger photos, maps, and the comment sections of other member's profiles. Purchasing an upgraded membership can be done at any time. Many individuals who utilize Roommates.com wait to purchase an upgrade until they have several emails waiting for them. This way, they fully maximize their upgrade.

If you have any questions on how to utilize the website and/or make the most out of your membership, please let me know. We will be happy to provide you with additional tips on using Roommates.com if you choose to give us another try.

Hello,

To turn off match notifications, just sign in and click the profile pic/avatar on the top right. Then click “Account” from the bottom of the notifications menu. On the next page, you can scroll down to turn on or off different notifications.

To deactivate your account, please follow these steps:

Click on your avatar or profile picture on the top right-hand corner of the page.
Choose "Account" from the drop-down.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "cancel your account?" link.
Choose your reason for canceling your account and provide any additional detail you think would be helpful for us to know (we appreciate the feedback).
Click on the "Deactivate My Account" button.

Sometimes, you may not need or want your profile to be available for matches but you know you will need it again in the future. You can accomplish this by hiding your profile.

To hide your profile, please follow these steps:

Click on your avatar or profile picture on the top right-hand corner of the page.
Choose "Profile" from the drop-down.
Click the "Hide Your Profile" option above your name.
Your profile should update and now indicate that your profile is hidden.

I hope this was helpful. If you have additional questions don't hesitate to ask. You can contact us at support@roommates.com.

I was a little confused on the first posting, so here goes. My first experience with Roommates.com was excellent. My first roommate was very decent and there weren't any problems. He simply got married, so I listed my profile, yet again. This man sent me emails and we first corresponded and then he wanted my phone number, which I felt was safe. He began to call me two and three times a day, asking me numerous questions about my political beliefs, etc. He was very pushy and wanted my address, but I felt a neutral place of meeting was safer. We met for dinner and just seemed odd. All along he had told me, he could afford the rental room. I decided to show him the room and once inside the house he tried to kiss me and he made it very clear that he wanted sex. I threatened to call the police and he left. Also, I received a phone call and I caught him trying to turn on my computer. I immediately sent an email to Roommates.com and I reported him to Roommates.com. After all of this, he was still listed. I couldn't believe it. Now, I will only deal with the newspapers. I feel it is safer.

Hi guys, I know there has been a bad rep for the site, but I tried the 3 day and adamantly will be checking on it to make sure I only get charged the one time fee. (email *******@roommates.com) But unless you pay it wont benefit you, I have only been on for 2 days and everything I have checked into was legit and real in Jax, FL. The people were real, we texted, sent pics, I think I have found the best place. Will find out more tomorrow, but I prefer this even over craigslist. But in order for it work the person you email also has to be paying to use the service, otherwise I dont think they see your description either posted at the end of the bio. And of course cant email messages. I got phone numbers with local numbers. I did get a few from craigs list asking me to go to roommatenext.com (not roommates.com) to get on with the inquiry of the room, but from other reviews I ignored them and went on with my day(they were not local phone numbers that texted me). The key to all of this is people have to pay to see the facts, but you get what you pay for. Customer service treated me really good. If you really need to verify email/contact me I am impressed, I didnt have any hopes at all but was so blessed. The key is everyone does have to pay for the service and I am on the 3 day trail. Hope this helps and again so pleasantly surprised!

Tip for consumers:
You have to pay and pray that it works! ;) If people that you are emailing are not responding, more than likely they haven't paid either. So it aint gonna work!

Hello,

This is Roommates.com Customer Support.

I am sorry to hear that you were contacted by a scammer and I understand that finding a roommate can be a difficult and frustrating process. If you paid for a membership and the message received was a scam message, you are entitled to a refund.

I wasn’t able to find an account on the site under the name or email address that you provided. Roommates.com is a bulletin board service and many times scammers don't make themselves known until they get you to email them through their private email address, which Roommates is not privy to. We are doing all we can to protect our members and keep scammers from posting on our site. When a fraudulent account is detected by our Fraud Department, the account and any messages sent from that account are automatically removed in order to protect the legitimate members of Roommates.com.

We have assisted countless members in finding the perfect roommate and we would love to see everyone who uses Roommates.com be successful in their search for a roommate. However, we do realize that is not always the case as the process of finding a roommate can be difficult.

Even though you were not successful in using our website, if you should require a roommate in the future, we ask that you give us a second chance. We would be more than happy to explain how to get the most out of your account with Roommates.com, even with the free service.

Please contact our Customer Support through the website and we will be happy to assist you with a refund if you paid for a membership. If you have further questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Hello,

We have designed our site so you are able to utilize the website without purchasing a membership and many of our users have successfully found roommates this way. The most common ways for people do to so is to send contact information within emails to other users and/or post contact information within profile descriptions for other users to see. So while it is true that without having a paid membership you do not have the benefit of being able to read emails that you receive through our site, you do still have the opportunity to achieve your goals while utilizing the free portions of the site.

We will be happy to provide you with additional tips on using Roommates.com at support@roommates.com.

Even after adding my preferences, I'm getting matches in different cities. And they expect me to pay to read some of the messages.

Thumbnail of user jessicar18
Customer-Support -. – Roommates.com Rep

Hello,

Your matches will be within the radius that you chose around your main city, so depending on how big of a radius you chose there may be additional cities within your radius. Paying for a membership does allow you to read incoming messages from other members, but you can send messages to other members for free and include your contact information if you would like, so at least one of you would need to pay for a membership in order to communicate outside of the website.

Hopefully you are having some luck finding a roommate. If you have additional questions please contact us at support@roommates.com.
