I have used roommates.com in the past for a room I had available for rent and paid for the VIP membership. I was able to search in the age group that I was looking for and within a month of chatting with a few people was able to find my roommate. I recently went back to roommates.com now a few years later to find a new roommate and found that the site had changed a great deal. I paid the price for a month of VIP with no luck. Much of what I saw was people who wanted to hook up. Is this a dating site? I just wanted to rent my room. I was greatly disappointed this time around.

I was hesitant at first and out of all the potential possible roommates I was lucky I not only met nice people but genuine and up front about what they were looking for. I found a really nice roommate and I would use this site again if needed but for now I think I found the right person. Romy K

This app/site creates fake users who will message you. They will create profiles of attractive people to send you a message. Then, you are not able to view their message unless you pay a fee. Once you pay the fee and try to read the message, the user is inactive due to violating policy. Every guy will get a message from Amanda, sometimes Amanda K, sometimes another letter. Do not use it! It is all fake users to trap you for a paid subscription!

All the emails I got was fake, I tried Dream-mate.com and found a great room. You get to speak to a live person and they give you landlord information the same day. I moved in the next day. Roommates.com is a SCAM

I moved to another state and used roommates to find a place to live while I got my feet on the ground. It worked out and I found a match pretty quickly. I'm grateful that I was able to find a place to live on a budget so fast.

I had moved to Denver from Las Vegas and because of an abrupt change in my living situation when I arrived in Denver forced me to find a place to live in a city I knew no one in immediately I was desperate. I didn't want to have to resort to Craigslist until all other outlets were exhausted and I had been told about roommates.com by someone in the past. I gave it a try and, literally, within hours I had gotten in contact with someone in a great area and a couple days later I signed a lease with a great roommate in a nice house!

I would recommend this website to anyone! Especially people who don't have any connections and are looking to move to a new city and start a new life!

Every message I received from Roommates.com was a scam. Not one was a real person with a real room to rent. Of 12 people who messaged me in the 48 hours I was on the platform, all 12 immediately went inactive. Of those 12, a total of 11 had their messages banned for violations, and the one who wasn't banned went inactive immediately. Not one person who I messaged even read my message, so those seem to be bot accounts with no rooms to rent. Do not join, do not spend money, do not use this site.

I found the perfect roommate through your app. I wish everything could be this easy. I think the matches were superb especially due to the lack of people interested in living in Nevarre.
I found someone the same age, like minded, stable and financially stronge. In a trying time for me. This was the scariest idea for me to let a stranger into my home. Roommates.com made this the easiest transition I've had to make.

The residence I was living in was listed and placed under contract in 10 days. I had 1 month to find a place to live and a full time job. I found the job and thanks to roommates.com I found an incredible home 5.3 miles from my new job. The place is perfect!

The webpage is only for scammers, they refuse to meet up and show the place, they try to send video of the place via email. And ask for deposit to save the place for you without even showing it.

I roomed with a Sarah Brown, 29, of the Holland, MI/Allendale area, worst experience ever! Do NOT room with her or even rent to her. She won't pay her rent and people are over every night like they live there.

If you are looking to rent a room, stay away from the address above. The Owners mother lives in the house and is a control freak. There were 5 women that lived in the house and the mother tried to control our lives, from what we did to what we are allowed to eat in the house. She constantly asked where we were going, what time we were going to be back and if you refuse to do anything she asks of you, you will be evicted. This happen to me and two of the other girls that lived there. BE WARE! Don't let this happen to you.

The people on this site don't have pictures of themselves, refuse to meet up, and are eager to take your money. I have never used a roommate service where people wanted you to pay and sign a lease without even a phone call. There are without a doubt scammers on this website. I never, ever, ever had this experience using roomies.com.

I am so happy I was told about roomates.com because I was getting so frustrated and discouraged with craigslist and the classified adds. I heard about roommates.com and it was the best 20 bucks I've ever spent. I found the perfect roommate and the perfect house in a week, and it was so easy to use! Thank you so much roommates.com. I would use you in a heartbeat if I ever need a roommate again.

From first hand knowledge, I want to warn others (who are thinking about becoming a paying member of Roommates.com) on how this website does business so that they won't waste their time and money on it as I did. As a paying member you would expect that nonpaying members could read your emails sent to them. The only way a nonpaying member can read emails of a paying member is when they too become a paying member. Since the website does not tell you who the paying and nonpaying members are, a paying member may (as I did) spend hours sending emails to nonpaying members not knowing that they are unable to read them. Since very few people become paying members, it would be wise to go to other roommate websites that does allow all members (paying and nonpaying) to read paying member's emails.

This is the second time I have used the service and I recommend it to everybody. I have used it to search in my neighborhood and across the country. I gave myself enough time to get to know my roommate and research the area and have yet to be disappointed.

I paid for premium subscription, $20, and after it ended I was wondering why I hadn't got a single message. I sent out at least a dozen messages to people.

I clicked my sent box, and it was empty. Apparently none of the messages that were CONFIRMED to have been sent were in my sent box, telling me none of them actually went through. I sent a message to customer service about this, explaining I felt cheated since I paid $20 and none of my messages went through (Even though it said they did.)

Their response was to say "You probably didn't send your messages right."

I sent another reply, explaining in detail how I sent the messages, keeping the support ticket open, and they never responded back.

Same as every other review on here. Went through the whole process of setting up an account, got an email the next day which I wasn't allowed to read. I thought about sending this person an email explaining that I'm not a paid member but I assumed they were not either so just didn't bother. And why is it so expensive? Six bucks for a three day trial? I'd rather be spammed with ads than pay for something I'll only use once. Such a waste of time.

Protip: If you're going to set up an online business that charges a subscription fee, you really ought to mention that before making people create pointless accounts, otherwise you're just gonna piss off a lot of people and ruin your business.

Thank you for assisting me to find an excellent roommate. This site is very user friendly, and I was able to navigate through it perfectly. When I have questions about my account, I can send an email, and I got personal responses withing 48 hours. My current roommate is my 5th using roommates.com. I had to pay to find my roommate, but I would rather pay for a quality roommate, than use a site like Craigslist. My thinking is if you are too cheap to pay the small amount of money to talk to me, then you are definitely not the roommate for me.

This is a great site to find good quality roommates. I have been using it for 16 years! Its much better than trying to use sites such as Craigslist that seem to have much riff raff. Its worth the 20 bucks you pay to be able to read your emails. If you are too cheap to pay 20 bucks to find a room then you arent the roommate for me!
