I signed up with Select home warranty in March of 2019 and was at first very impressed with customer service. I had a service call on my furnace that went smoothly. HOWEVER, my 26 year old air conditioner went out at the beginning of July 2019. Being in my first year of home ownership, I knew I had older AC units, furnace, and other major appliances, so. Logically this is the very reason I signed up with Select.

When I called, I was told it would be over a week before a service rep would be out to only DIAGNOSE the problem. I explained I have a newborn and 2 year old that are at home and needed someone sooner. They told me to find my own company! So. I did, I found a very reputable and highly rated AC company that came out same day and diagnosed a failed fan motor and compressor. In AC talk that meant a new $3k+ system. After receiving all the paperwork and photos needed for Select's authorization department, I was told my claim was NOT DENIED, but APPROVED for $150 reimbursement... TOTAL! They actually had the guts to say that. They quoted section 9. 1. 2 (check your contract!) that stated 3 YEARS OF MAINTENANCE RECORDS REQUIRED. Now, what new home owner has that information?

It is now August 9,2019 as I write this review. I never do this. I work in HR for a hotel company and train people on customer service. Never have I met a service rep and Claims Manager (in this case) that cared any little than these people. They continued to quote the contract, state I would not get a refund even after cancelling my plan, and showed ZERO regard for my family who are suffering through the heat. Frankly, its a dangerous situation for my new born and I receive ZERO empathy. I am beyond disappointed, I am hurt by this company's lack of caring and willingness to do anything. I strongly urge you to run away...

Please watch out for the lies that this company will tell you to have you sign up with them - they are a rip-off and a scam. First it was my garbage disposal which they basically told me they pay the fraction of what it would cost for a professional to replace it - meaning they gave me about $75 (after calling for nearly 1.5 month) to inquire about the payment! As they will tell you: "their resolution team" has come up with the estimate for this repair. My garage door started to play-up and not open fully, I oiled it and it still was having problems stopping abruptly when opening. I called select home warranty they dispatched someone to come and look at it, we paid the service fee of $60. The technician tested the whole system and said the motor is bad and have cost about $485-$60=$425. They are telling me they will only pay $150 period! Their website right on the main page toward the bottom says: We Provide a Peace of Mind... It's as easy as; 1- Report a claim 2- We assign a local professional, and 3-we'll repair or replace your covered item. You pay a minimal service fee. Simple as that. [my cost is over $300 and that is not minimal.]

Here is an interesting thing that just happened, I took a screenshot of the statements above... I spoke to several people in this company because I was furious, as well as the escalation team and I mentioned what their website says "3-repair or replace" then when writing this email I went to copy the wording exactly from their website and the word "replace" was removed! We are talking a span of an hour of me talking with rep, supervisor calling me back and transferring me to the escalation manager! Isn't that interesting!- Wow! I could not believe my eyes! (but I did have the screenshot beforehand!) They will tell you that the amount they are offering you is the cost of the items depreciation and it says it in the policy, and they will give the exact number off the bat- seems like they have memorized this section of the article.
Please, please pay attention to this... from time to time Select Home Warranty changes their website for number "3. Repair or replace" to just say Repair! Check it out for yourselves... go on the website every now and again, you'll see the change. When I was having the dispute with them, I took the attached screenshot and then after my calls and complaints to the company, I checked the website and the word "replace" was gone! Coincident?!

Avoid this company at all costs! They are scammers! I placed a first service request with them when my attic fan stopped working. I was told I'd be notified when an appointment was scheduled. I was never notified but logged in to the portal and saw that they scheduled an appointment with a contractor (without even checking if the time worked for me). The contractor specializes in water damage restoration so not sure how they'd be selected to work on an attic fan in the first place. The day of the scheduled repair comes and no one ever showed up. My fiancé called SHW and they told him nothing was ever scheduled and that they'd be calling once something was. At this point it was over a week since the initial claim. I called them a few days later to follow up and they stated that a contractor came to our house, spoke to my fiancé, looked at and diagnosed the issue on our "AC unit". First of all, no one was ever at our home, second of all, the attic fan was the item that needed to be serviced, not my AC unit. Someone would need to enter my home to look at the attic fan which never happened. I was told I'd be connected to a supervisor to review my concerns. Well, no supervisor was available to speak to me and I was told they'd call me back within 3 hours. It's been over 3 weeks since I was told I'd get a call back from a supervisor. I've called multiple times a week to try to cancel my plan and get a refund and each time I get connected to a representative that spends over 10 minutes trying to convince me to stay with them, and after telling them I'm not interested and just want to cancel my plan I'm told that I need to speak to a supervisor and that "no one is available at this time and they'll call me back". I have yet to receive this call to cancel. At this point I'm beyond frustrated and I just want a refund as I paid for 3 years in full. Their communication is absolutely terrible, they are liars and scammers. DO NOT BUY A PLAN WITH THIS COMPANY!

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SCAM COMPANY

After receiving the Contract from SELECT, it was obvious the salesman (E. B.) lied to me about several conditions on the Warranty Contract.

1. Told me that Freon coverage ($25) was included in my payment => A LIE, it was never included in Contract received.
2. Told me my "Terms & Conditions" would be identical to those listed on the SELECT website => ANOTHER LIE, the contract received listed HVAC & all other Appliances with significantly reduced coverages ($500 in lieu of $3,000 & $150 in lieu of $500) during the 1st-3 months of the policy.
3. I emailed him, to ensure my additional conditions and disclaimers were in writing to him, that the HVAC units were previously repaired several times and there really were not any maintenance records except for repair invoices. I wrote that these conditions must be accepted by SELECT and that they would not limit the warranty coverage and $$$$ limits in any way. He verbally stated that those conditions would not be a problem and encouraged me to finalize the Contract with him. => ANOTHER LIE, many of these conditions may not hold up for warranty coverage per the SELECT contract.

In Summary, this entire experience with the sales rep and SELECT was very Deceptive, Fraudulent Business Practices & False Advertising. They deliberately and fraudulently list on their website a set of "Terms & Conditions" that are completely different than the "Terms & Conditions" sent to the customers who accept their Contracts.

When I confronted (email) the salesman about all of the above deceptive and misleading "sales pitches" presented to me he immediately said he would have his supervisor cancel the contract. This was not my decision or choice, but he obviously realized that I had caught him in so many unethical, fraudulent agreements that he wanted rid of me ASAP.

Subsequently, he & SELECT have been reported to my state's Department of Insurance for Deceptive, Fraudulent Business Practices & False Advertising.

Bought a 5½ -year policy from Select Home Warranty ("SHW") in Nov 2022 for $2500. On 7/21/23 my clothes dryer stopped working; Filed a claim online on 7/23; rec'd email & text messages on 7/24 that a tech would come 7/26 between 8am & noon. On 7/26: No show, no call. Rec'd email/text msgs on 7/27 that the tech would come 7/27 between 8am & noon. Again no show, no call. On 7/28 a tech arrived, diagnosed the problem & said he'd draft a report & send it to SHW, who would order parts & have them sent to me, then I should call the tech to come back to do the repair.

On 8/4 we called SHW to check on the claim; were told the parts had not been ordered yet. We req'd they be ordered immediately & shipped overnight; rep said he'd see what he could do. On 8/15 we called SHW, were told they rec'd the report over 2 weeks ago: the dryer could not be fixed & they were waiting on a determination from their Resolution Dept. I req'd that SHW email me a copy of the report; they told me I needed to get it from the tech. Left several messages for the tech but have not rec'd any reply.

On 8/16 (today) I rec'd an email saying they had approved a $185 reimbursement (my dryer is 5 yrs old & cost nearly $700), but I must repair or replace the unit myself, send SHW the "paid invoice", and then wait to receive a "Reimbursement Form" to sign/return before they'd send a check.

So I've been without a clothes dryer for nearly a month & it's still broken. I emailed SHW to cancel my policy & expect a full refund. There's no reason my dryer can't be repaired, the tech missed app'ts & I have not rec'd the report. The delay is unacceptable & their rep gave us erroneous info re: parts. No one followed up on the claim, their offer is insultingly low & requires unnecessary paperwork.

SHW's website says "We'll repair your covered item. You'll pay a minimal service fee. It's that simple." This is completely false; nothing has been simple about this claim. I'm extremely dissatisfied with SHW. I'm curious to see how they respond to my request for a full refund; if they resolve this matter acceptably, I'll come back & revise my review. Until then, I would strongly advise NOT purchasing a home warranty from this company.

Bought a new home and purchased a SelectHome warranty after reading all the reviews and the endorsement by "This Old House". Compared SelectHome with others and I had American Home Shield before so I knew what to expect. After I signed up online I received several high pressure calls from Select to extend the warranty for another year or two at a "discounted rate".

We finished moving in September and the upstairs AC was not working properly as all rooms were not cooling, entered a SelectHome Warranty claim, waited 48 hours for a response, called them they said it would take awhile to find a contractor in my area, after waiting seven business days I called a local HVAC repairman and had the unit fixed in and hour, the blower motor was failing. I submitted the bill to SelectHome Warranty, they rejected the claim because I contracted to have the work done myself, the bill was $275.

The upstairs bathroom drain is clogged, no problem I will enter a claim to Select Home Warranty. I wait a week for a contractor to come out, he arrives without any tools says all he is authorized to-do is assess the situation, take pictures and call it into Select Home Warranty, he charges me $80 cash, tells me he submitted an estimate of $1,285 to replace 22' of drain pipe, will require cutting walls open and they will not repair drywall. The contractor told me Select Home Warranty is the worst and doubt they will approve the repair.

Select Home will only cover a maximum of $150, since its within the first three months, and it will take two weeks for them to schedule the repair - this will be four weeks of not having a bathroom upstairs.

Called Roto - Rooter, they came our today isolated the clog in a down pipe, in an hour they cut the line under the house, power snaked it and flushed it, reconnected the pipe for $385, fixed!

Was just on the phone with SelectHome Warranty to cancel, was on hold for over 44 minutes, and then the foreign call center agent I could not understand spent ten minutes hard selling me to keep the warranty.

What a joke...

This company doesn't deserve one star. The positive reviews must have been posted from Select representatives as I cannot believe that they would get good reviews based on the two experiences I've had with them.
I have had the worst experience with their service. The absolute worst! I'm so upset in their lack of response and failure to provide service that I want to warn the world about them. My refrigerator has not been working for almost four weeks. They referred my account to a "fly-by-night" company that has a physical address of an empty building. In addition it does not have a live body to talk to. After I accidentally hit the cancel button instead of the confirm button for my appointment (a week after my refrigeration broke), there was no way to contact the company to correct the mistake. I contacted Select to ask them to contact the company and I spoke to a number of people who gave me the run around and I was rescheduled seven day later! Which means no refrigerator for two weeks! Technician determined I needed a part. He had to order a part and scheduled my repair eight days later (three weeks without a refrigerator). I was given a time frame of 8:00am-12 noon for service. I received a text at 12:15 stating that I was scheduled to Monday 1-5pm! I called Select each time and they told me they could not the service provider. I asked for another service provider and they said it couldn't be done. I asked for a manager three of the numerous times I called and each time they told me the manager was in a meeting. I'm still waiting for manager to call me back! I explained that I would be out of town and they said I would have to reschedule again (which would be more than four weeks without a refrigerator)! I just called another local company to repair the refrigerator and paid them $340 to stop the madness!
