I won a large pair of fairly expensive speakers, paid and scheduled a pickup. I arrived this morning, and only 1 of my 2 items are there... the expensive ones being the ones missing. I was told they couldn't find them anywhere in the facility. That there must have been a shipping mixup. What? There was no shipping! Common sense may lead one to think that someone is taking advantage from the inside. Yes, I will be refunded... but there was no communication. No notice. On another note, I won another piece of equipment from another state, and it was shipped with no packaging at all. The item was a perfect condition CD player. Again, really? It of course did not work when it arrived. I asked for a refund, they said they refunded, but I haven't seen the money in my account. Insanely terrible customer service under the excuse that "we're Goodwill, so it's good enough". Please. I've seen you land $1000+ for a single vintage receiver, that you received for FREE. Hire some competent people to oversee operations.

Tangled mess
April 26, 2022

I bought 8 pounds of jewelry. The jewelry was shipped in a large zip lock bag inside an oversize box with no padding. When I got the box, the zip lock bag had opened and jewelry was all tangled. Tangled so bad I had to throw some of it away. NO QUALITY CONTROLL.

Goodwill E-commerce, modern day Robber Baron
March 25, 2023

Shopping Goodwill online is a really bad idea if you want assurance you get what you pay for. For example, I purchased a vintage ceramic item that showed no wear or damage but when I received the item it was damaged. I spoke with customer service who weakly apologized and said someone was supposed to inform me at pickup that the item was damaged. I had to drive 20 miles to return it and was charged a 25% stocking fee. Who sells damaged goods on purpose, doesn't disclose it, and charges the customer to take it back? Their speil, "thank you for supporting our mission" is how they justify taking your money for nothing. I got nothing but they took my money. Unethical, right? Back in he 19th century they called head of companies with questionable tactics like selling products for over inflated prices selling goods or services that don't really exist Robber Barons. Well my dear shoppers, beware of Goodwill E-commerce. Not only do they sell questionable goods and don't back their products, they also charge an absorbent 25% restocking fees, excessive handling fees, and shipping fees.

Goodwill of Los Angeles
September 9, 2019

Wow, I know its LA, but damn! They've got retail and higher prices on a lot... and I mean MOST... of their items! For instance, an 18K gold watch that has no crown, water damage to the dial (and I'll guarantee rust to the movement), needs a new crystal, no strap and case beat up, but they have a starting price of $1999, 99! The value of the gold is maybe $400! Just the average watch that you can buy at a goodwill store for $3 -$5 is $25 and up!
OH, AND THEN S/H ON A SINGLE SMALL ITEM IS ALMOST $14! All this for an item that was DONATED!

The problem with Shopgoodwill is that they seem to have the same attitude about items sold at auction as the low-value items that are tossed carelessly on shelves and piled on the floor at the store. One would think that a rare piece of vintage electronics that a customer paid $2600 would be handled and packed with great care in-line with that purchase price. In my experience with four purchases, three of the items were shipped with laughable packing that I wouldn't have trusted to protect the item transported in my own vehicle. There is clearly no training or care for shipping expensive, fragile items. In addition to the shipping damage they received along the way, two items were covered in dust and spiderwebs and had scratches that were not shown in the auction pictures. It's as if the pictures were taken and then items where stacked carelessly on top of each other on the floor. One store was cooperative in offering a partial refund, but the others either denied they are responsible or were unresponsive. They don't offer returns and there is really no recourse for buyers who have had a bad experience. Make sure to use a payment method with buyer protection.

Some of their shipping fees are outragious especially when adding high " handling" fees. Come on, $4.00 fee for a pair of earrings already overpriced? It's pathetic!

Yes, the ShopGoodwill online site charges very high shipping. They say it's because of the shape or the size of the item, but I've seen small items that weigh only a few ounces listed with ridiculous prices for shipping. I don't buy anything electronic on the site anymore after getting burned several times. They most times make sure they stipulate that the item is "untested" and that the buyer needs to take that into account when bidding because there are no returns. How much trouble is it to plug something in for 20 seconds to see if it turns on, lights up, gets warm, etc?! In my opinion, they are trying to offload non-working items on unsuspecting buyers. I have also heard that employees go on the site and bid items up so that buyers are forced to outbid them. I have seen items like gift cards being bid up to almost the amount on the card! Who does that? Fur coats that they were gifted with being listed with a beginning price of over $400! A Chanel purse went for over $1200 when you can find them for less than that on eBay. I think people believe that because it's on "Goodwill" that it's going to be a good deal no matter how much they pay for it. I ALWAYS crosscheck every item I want to bid for on Amazon or eBay. MANY times it is not a good deal on ShopGoodwill when you add in the shipping and handling. I'm not saying that there are not good deals to be had on the site, but you have to be savvy and do your homework before and during bidding.

I am a collector of Vinyl Records and am well aware of what many records are worth. The Goodwill auction site is a sham as just about any viable record is selling for more than it's worth, no record collector that I know will pay 100% top dollar for a record that isn't even graded nor any description of the quality unless they are blind. I guarantee that items are being bid up by bots.

I buy Records on Ebay which has thousands of more viewers than Goodwill.com, the records are graded and sold by reputable sellers and they sell for allot less so what gives?

For one people donate items at a "thrift" store to be sold for fair value to customers in store! Donators are not expecting " Goodwill" to sell donated items on an auction site for more than retail... it's a disgusting practice for all items.

Theres a reason why your stores are dead because you send everything that's worth anything to auction. Meanwhile the local Savers down the road is always full of customers. Goodwill will be dead in 10 years.

I have been on and off Shopgoodwill.com going on 6 years. What I've learned about this site and the charity it funds is the administrators of this business is only concern whatsoever is profit. I think a good portion of Americans believe Goodwill helps the needy. What a huge misconception that is. The closest they come to that is providing low paying jobs to sell the huge amount of merchandise good-hearted Americans donate thinking they are helping the needy. Goodwill does NOT directly help the needy. The CEO of this so called nonprofit charity is paid millions annually. Its quite a scam making millions for a select few.
Now about their auction site. As briefly as I can explain. Overcharging for shipping is a mainstay. You can expect it everytime. Tacking on a bogus handling charge which can be upwards of $4 per item. Ridiculous. Then turnaround on shipping the items. Plan on waiting 5-7 days before an item is even shipped plus the shipping time itself, another 2-5 days. Its really not worth it. It may seem like a great deal intionally but its truly not. The perfect business because all of the product Goodwill sells is donated to them. Unreal, please if you want to donate then donate to a real charity that actually helps the needy.

Goodwill need to learn to pack their items. I purchase Christmas ornaments which weigh only a few ounces each and get charged for 20 pounds. When the box arrives it is stuffed with shredded boxes that only add to the weight and nothing else. Look for yourself at their shipping cost. They are very very much overcharging. I have even received smashed bags with no packing and been charged the same about for 20 pounds. Some locations are better than others and you have to keep track of the overcharging abusers. Christmas ornaments with their boxes do not weight that much. I have weight the boxes and ornaments myself when I receive them. Fraud is the word. Goodwill is not like ebay where you can leave comments and reviews of how they are doing and ebay monitors and corrects the overcharging. It is only buy at your own risk. So DON'T buy unless you are local and can pick up the items. One place in Willemette California deliberately charges for 11 pounds no matter how many ornaments, so you cannot combine shipping. Combine shipping is only for 20 pounds or less.

Hello, just to let you know that shop goodwill is a way to rip people off, I once bought a fishing rod that was supposed to be in good shape as soon I received it it was all falling apart and I had to pay for shipping to ship it back to them so I spent $48 to receive a refund of $30 even though it was their own fault of stating things about their item that are not true, another time I bought a phone that was unlocked according to their item description but ended up locked when I contacted them they told me that the phone was unlocked at the time of my purchase and than it became locked which is a lame explanation how in earth an unlocked phone locked afterword, and thus they charge a very high shipping fees, for instance you pay around $10 for a tiny MP3 player I hope you get the idea how expensive are their shipping fees, bottom line it is very not recommended to shop on goodwill online because it is a rip off

When you go to bid on an item, it doesn't ACTUALLY show you the current bid price, it shows you the price of a bid or two ago. When putting a bid on an item, you usually immediately receive a response stating you've been outbid. But by who? I tried bidding 170 dollars on an item that the current bid supposedly was 161. Five times it did not work, stating I had been outbid. I finally was able to place a bid at 176 dollars, where the bidding price remained until the auction ended 40 minutes later. The second the bid closed, I see somebody else won? A bid for 191 dollars that came in after it had ended? Shady and scummy practices, especially considering they are SUPPOSED to be selling this stuff locally to help their communities, and instead they send the good items to sell online for extremely marked up prices, and seem to have no intention of showing when you've actually been outbid, so you can't really even win an auction either. Speaking of, even if you're going to sell it online, if this is supposedly to help people why is it an auction in the first place? All around very odd and doesn't quite match up with the name "Goodwill". Either way I'm not about to sit here and play these games just for the "privilege" of massively overpaying for an item.

I have watched quite a few items over the months but this was my first purchase, the item was an electronic item and the listing did say that they have no way of fully testing the item, but they offer a return policy so I bid on and won the item. When I received it and plugged it in it was obviously not working, no LED lights coming on, nothing, so I contacted them to start the refund policy. The item also came with a "Handling Fee" and a pretty expensive shipping fee that were tacked on at checkout, HOWEVER, now that I wish to return the item they are telling me that they will not refund the original shipping or handling fee and that I would be responsible for the return shipping. And I'm sure as soon as they get it back it will go straight back onto their website to sell to the next person. IT'S QUITE A CLEVER LITTLE SCAM THEY HAVE GOING ON, AND IN THE NAME OF CHARITY! Try not to give them your hard earned money.

I've been lurking the shopgoodwill website for a few years now, coming across lots of items I wanted to get. Unfortunately, I've only ever won TWO auctions. And those auctions themselves were a mess. First auction did not disclose certain damages to the item, making the items absolutely useless and a couple grand to fix to make functional. The shipping was over $40 for two items weighing less than 3 lbs. Next auction did not tell me the item had tons of cosmetic damages as well as the smell of cigarette smoke. It was disgusting. Useless, as it sounded like crap too (it was a violin). This item was expensive and a waste of my time. I've bid on dozens of other auctions and never won any, because their fake bidders put a very high maximum bid that you can't outbid. If you do outbid, they sniper bid at the last second and they "win" only for the auction to reappear a few days later at a higher start bid. It's ridiculous and annoying. I can't buy anything because of all the fake bidders. And when I do win, I get crapped on because it's damaged and wasn't disclosed with me. I never recommend this website. Ever.

My dad had a stroke. He had bid on items and won but the day he died basically he was not conscious in order to pay for the items their policy is if you have three items that are not paid for within 7 days you are on indefinite suspension. He tried to message them and explain though they were not hearing it.

I had an account it was canceled because we live in the same house. So I made another account purchase two items on it and because they're vendetta they canceled it due to non-payment although those payments were paid for almost immediately after the auction so the lady sent me the letter as listed below saying that I had purchased several items and not paid for it I told her that that was my dad not me and I had never purchased anything these people are just shameful they're not out to help anybody they don't care about the truth they're vindictive and it's just a shame My dad was using these purchases to help support his family because he had been out of work it done a good job of buying and reselling items cleaning them up and reworking them in some cases doing what he had to to make a living unfortunately sometimes things happen they don't care so if you doing business with them to help support the company in I would suggest go to your local store but stay away from the online. They are shysters and swindlers
