Called today at 9:36 2nd time to talk to someone in loan department. Said can not answer your call call back at regular business hours from 8am to 5 pm Mon to Fri. It's 9:30 am. And it's recordered.
They are the worst credit card processing company on the planet. Square needs to be prosecuted and jailed for their actions.
I want to file a complaint against Square. I have a small travel company located in Los Angeles. We have been using Square for over 6 years. When the pandemic hit, we had lots of consumer refund requests and we didn't have enough staff to process everything on time. There were some clients who decided to file a credit card dispute with their credit card company. I totally understand their decisions. Because the disputes went to Square, they decided to put a reserve on our account, which is 40% of all sales volume. I actually understood their decision as well because of the credit card disputes we had.
However, as of June this year, we issued more than 1.3 million refunds to clients and the credit card disputes have almost disappeared. We hired new staff and tried to take care of every refund request. But Square still keeps the reserve on our account. This is becoming more and more concerning to us.
For example, we only receive 60% of the clients' payment when they make a booking with us, and when they come back in 4 month and decide to cancel the trip, we are supposed to refund 100% of the payment minus a little cancellation fee, but Square hasn't even transferred us their payment. We still only have 60% of the total payment but now we need to refund almost 100% of what they paid! These similar transactions are draining our bank account!
I believe our business is just one of hundreds of thousands facing the same problem, I demand Square to take the correct action and refund our reserve right now. I will share my experience with all regulatory bodies until they do. I have a small business, it's convenient that I can use Square everywhere for years. I drove 8 hours to participate in a big and money making 10 days arts/crafts show (Sept 2023) that I have prepared for a year. I spent 4 hours setting up my booth. I was extremely tired, just before my sale days, I checked my email and, shockingly, got a Square email saying my PASSWORD EXPIRED on I day. In my 50 years professional life, I have ever had any companies expire my password, let alone no reason at all to suddenly expire my password at the last minute, not even give me at least one week notice, just chopped my business off cold. I always sign on to the Square, never logged off. I was out of town, no computer with me, and didn't remember my password. I couldn't sleep, and tried to figure out how to change my password. Found change Square password instructions on web, I carefully followed the instructions tried to change the password, however, I am in a new place, somehow the worst yet to come, I got completely BLOCKED OUT from Square, not allow me to change my password. I was stressed out for no reason at all. The Square put me through this nightmare.
Next day, I asked my business colleagues to help me out, but no one could, because I have been blocked out. Me and my co-workers worked together trying to call Square customer service for helping, only got repeating recording messages. I lost money, lost so much sleep and stressed out. Who's the idiot Square personnel decided to expire their customers password randomly to screw up their customers' business, I am extremely frustrated and angry as to why Square put me through this NIGHTMARE!
Square is withholding $2500 from me and has stolen from many small businesses! We all need to come together and get our funds back!
They are 1000 of companies and banks who do much much better than square and with square there's no one to really help u so stick with a normal bank

I used the square app for the first time when I was in a pinch and could not use Venmo or Cash App, etc. The 2nd biggest job I have done for my growing small company, and I needed to run a credit card. Square decided that they were going to place a hold on the transfer, which was over one thousand dollars so I figured it would be a few days at least. That's not uncommon practice. They asked for supplemental information verifying the parties and purpose of the transaction- I provided everything I had and some things that were "optional" but not mandatory as well. Square did not help me: they took their time reviewing the information and finally sent me an email saying that my account was closed, I cannot use Square, and I will not see those funds for several months. Their customer service makes it impossible to reach a human at this stage: they flag tour phone number and have a prerecorded message that more or less says "sorry, you're SOL." You cannot imagine how this impacted my business and what's even worse… When I was unable to pay my workers, I had one maniacal laborer yelling at me and showing me he had a gun in his vehicle. I had to pay him out of pocket DOUBLE just to get him out of there and away from my customer and regular employees. I still have not seen my money, although they clearly have the funds and I guarantee that they are using these types of circumstances to collect floating interest. I cannot express my resentment of this company enough. They are high profile thieves, worse even than the guy who pulled a gun on me. 99% of the time I say I will just avoid a business and go my separate way: but at this rate, I have to communicate the message. Square is in the business of somehow legalized thievery,
I don't know where to start but my overall impression of the company Square is that it appears to be owned by a very powerful cartel who goes under the names Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey and contracts their operations to customer service agents and financial institutions to make their business look legitimate.
Once they encounter any problems which they can't handle, they deactivate your account without any reason. This is to appear unbiased or non discriminatory citing "they have the legal authority to exercise that will if they detect irregularities with your account," which often result from their own inefficiencies. Ironically, we could say the same thing too, but we don't deactivate them.
I have never seen a business that allows you to contact them only once you establish an account with them. Once you create that account and you wish to speak to a live customer service agent, you have to log into your account and get a code then call them using that code. Therefore if your account is deactivated and you have a grouse or feedback to share, your calls will not be accomodated because you have no account with them. Nonetheless, it would be remiss of me not to share the positive:

Another positive thing I can say about Square is that they try to be very dynamic by providing cutting edge technology to meet today's business. However, without adequate staffing and committed live persons to synchronize with this technology, there will be many dissatisfied customers.
There are so many poor reviews and bad reports about this company that outweighs the good but for now, I would classify them as unethically Squared! I had a disagreement with a customer service agent and my account was deactivated 2 minutes after my interaction. What a coincidence! I was merely asking questions about some aspects of their service which I couldn't understand.
I gave them a 1 star because that's the lowest score I could find and there are other positives with the company. I hope they have enough money to keep disguising their unethical and poor service.
The money will sit there for a period of time and then will be considered abandoned funds and absorbed by the company.
