I have been a big seller and buyer on The Real Real since the beginning of the company in 2015! I have made about $400,000 selling pieces that I was not going to wear again. Also, I am a buyer of mostly "pristine" and "excellent" items on consignment. There are so many people who buy things and not wear/use them at all, and sell them new in the box with tags!
Therealreal is a scam. They take high-value items for consignment and list them at ridiculously low prices, allowing their internal employees to steal them from online clients' carts or even after payments have been made. They cancel transactions and resale the items to their friends, who then post them on eBay for a profit. Please do not consign with this company; you will receive almost nothing for your high-value stuff. The company has no control over their employees, so employees do whatever they want, including defrauding their customers and running a side business for themselves
Through browsing your selection, I know there's highly skilled staff selecting the most bougie pieces for our shopping experience. Thank you.
I discover new high quality brands through The RealReal. I think there's an opportunity to partner with other brands by reaching out to boutiques, and offering to sell hard to sell pieces on the site at MSRP, or at a slight discount. In the past, I've purchased things on RealReal, went to the brand site, and bought multiple pieces there because I felt comfortable with their sizing.
Because the site offers sizing in inches, I've never had to return a piece. I wish there was an option to filter pieces based on inches. That's the main reason I choose The RealReal when I buy online.
There's potential for the company to gain a huge following because of this unique feature that brings standardization of sizing across different brands. But it comes at a cost because it does take more manpower to measure each piece. I feel the benefits outweigh the costs because no other site offers this service.

I purchased a shirt from TRR and when I sent to reconsign my item, it was rejected due to authenticity! I bought the shirt from your website and now you are confirming it is a fake? Wow.

Not only did I have to give my address 5 separate times because no one knows what they are doing (twice to my local consigner, once at the Palo Alto store, twice when I called the customer service) but they decided to keep my things instead of returning them to me. You don't want to return my things, yet you don't want to pay me. Is that considered stealing?

I stumbled across this company at the top of the summer and I was excited about being able to purchase authentic designer brands at a fraction of the price. I've spent a little over $10k during that time. Twice now I've ordered shoes advertised in my shoe size only to receive them and it's 3 sizes smaller. Per the company's website, they verify and authentic their items before posting them to their site for resale, yet, I've encounter this error on The Real Real part twice. This is very disheartening, being that I spend a lot of time looking over items, most times hours, before I make a selection. I purchase items that I'm readily to use. The boots in particular that I just ordered were for a Christmas party I have this weekend. Now I have to scrambled last minute to find something else or change my entire wardrobe all together because of their error. I've also now wasted my $80 site credit that I could've used in an actual product in the correct size. I'm highly upset and frustrated that this is now becoming a norm, especially considering the amount of money that I've spent on this site in this short amount of time. I expect and immediate resolve as well as compensation for my time that has been wasted and the time that I'll now again have to take in returning this item. How are you possibly advertising a European 42 as a size 12 when it equates to a US size 9. Do better. You've lost what would've been a loyal customer. Are the lithe products I've ordered over the past 6 months even real? Have they truly been authenticated? I've attached both pair of shoes I've ordered that were advertised as the wrong size. The Gucci shoes are now reflecting the correct size because they've been returned and they'll correct the Hermes boots once they receive them but as you can see they were advertised as a size 12.
Tip for consumers:
You must want to call them before you place an order to verify the sizes are correct

I wanted to sell some items on The RealReal so they sent a representative to my house to pick up the items they sold the items three months ago. I still have not been paid. I've tried to contact them via telephone. All I can do is instant message them, they promised me 12 different times that the money was going to be deposited. It still has not been deposited as of now.
$2800 commission due to me and I have not received one penny
This company is a joke. Don't waste your time or aggravation with them.
Tip for consumers:
Terrible customer service they owe me $3000 in commission they’ve been promising me for two months. I have not received one penny.

I'm giving a one-star review based on a recent experience I had, which The RealReal should openly disclose to their customers. BE AWARE they will over price certain items, even if it's currently available on the designer/company website. I reached out to them regarding a black Jenni Kayne sweater that was marked as "very good" condition (i.e., not new, signs of wear, but no major damage). After I purchased it, I realized the same sweater was available online for $195 and TRR was charging $225….for a used "very good" version of it. I thought maybe it was an error and they estimated the retail price incorrectly. Turns out they are aware they over priced it and not willing to come down on the cost. This is understandable for a rare collectors item, but a used sweater that is currently available online and doesn't even have the tags on? That's just blatantly scamming your customers and hoping they don't notice. The TRR employee I was working with was Mus and he/she spoke like a robot - first they said there's nothing they can do, then offered $25 off, then $50, then sent me a return slip so they can sell it to someone else for $225. Really disappointing to learn that I can't trust their pricing, and they're basically scalping high street brands. I love shopping with them, and you can find a good deal, but on the other end, they're also stealing. F them for that. If you're advertising consignment prices, don't price higher than retail ESPECIALLY when it's available still. FYI this is also the case for readily available Khaite belts (and I'm sure many other things).
Tip for consumers:
They scam you on some items and charge higher than retail, even when it’s still available at the original store, and aren’t willing to re-evaluate it.

Beware - they have horrible customer service support. Most promo codes don't work & it's impossible to get any adjustment. Pictures are deceiving - not displayed on real people and purposely missing basic back & side shots! Make sure you really really want it before you pay $15 to ship. I'm NO longer a fan of this company.

Sent in a long list of consignments in May and was told that I would be paid by July 15th, 18th and 21st by different CSR's with TRR and now here it is July 21st no payment. And the commission payment for May alone was nearly $2,000. I send all the consignments and now the consignor will not return my call! Stay far away from TRR!

Terrible Customer Service. I'm so disappointed in TRR. I purchased a cashmere sweater and it arrived with a hole in the sleeve, and yes, they were prompt to refund the cost of the garment. However, they outright refused to cover the shipping. As I live in Australia, I explained that means I now have to pay US$50 to replace it. After much discourse they credited me US$25, but that still doesn't cover the shipping. Also, it became evident that the person I was dealing with wasn't even bothering to read my input to the discussion. Not Happy Jan!

I ordered Hermes Kelly 32. I received a Hermes Kelly 35. I had to jump through hoops, and waste hours on the phone in order to get a refund.
After informing The Real Real that I as sent the wrong size back, and having to submit measurements of the bag here is what the customer service response was: " I completely understand your anxiety. If I were in your place, I'd be filled with uncertainties and concerns.".
This is not acceptable service. Shame on you Real Real!
Stay away from ordering from a company that clearly doesn't care about their customer and only cares about selling merchandise that they can't even list correctly on their website.

This is the most arrogant and incompetent company to deal with. There is no phone number to call, only texting or email. My order got canceled. After I spent over 30 minutes texting, customer service said, "We have reported the problem, wait for customer service to get back to you." I literally just wasted 30 minutes to get no reply. Then, three days later, I got an email reply saying, "I request you to please create a new account so you do not face any issues at the purchase time." So, I made another order, and it was canceled again. I emailed customer service and got the reply, "After looking into your account status further, we can confirm that your account has been deactivated. Our Account Manager has notified us that the account was deactivated as a result of not meeting the eligibility requirements outlined in our terms and conditions." What a waste of time dealing with this company. The customer service and account manager can't help or solve any issue. Stay away from "The RealReal" because their customer service is nonexistent.

If you are thinking of purchasing something with The Real Real, please reconsider. I purchased an item and was told over a week later (after many phone calls and emails) that the item I paid for was being sent to somebody else.
No updated and I am still waiting on a refund. Absolutely ridiculous. Stay away from this poor excuse of a website.

RealReal mishandled my Louis Vuitton travel piece, priced it way below market value & when I requested return, parts came back missing. RR wants to pay me the low price (I did not agree to price) after they take out 40% commission! They LOST the item Real Real did NOT SELL the item. Why take a hefty commission? Customer Service ignores emails for weeks at a time! Horrible company!

It's a scam business when you want to sell with them, don't ever do that. They take your item out of your hand for peanuts. At first they give you an acceptable price but this price is not what they put on their site but much less. Then they give discount 20% and sell it for 10% of what they agreed with you. A Christian Dior bag that they estimated at $1600, sold it at $252 😒 unbelievable. Such a company should not be dealt with as they are crooks, don't buy or sell with them.
Tip for consumers:
The value for your item that they give you is not the price they put on your item on your site.

I sold a pair of brand new leather booties. When I purchased they were final sale so couldn't return them. Purchase price was close to $100. I tried them on twice and decided they were too narrow. I had sold items on the site previously and decided to use it again. By the time the price was reduced and fees were deducted I got an.80 check in the mail. I should have found someone to give the booties to for free. I will NEVER use this site again.

Many of high-valued designer clothes such as Casey Casey, Daniela Gregis, Sofie D'Hoore, etc. were listed at 5% of the value and when I requested repricing, the items were already sold and I received a commission of 1%. If you can sell it any other way, do it.
Tip for consumers:
Their pricing is inconsistent and at times much lower than the market prices. I consigned an $800 Casey Casey skirt barely used. They listed it at $50 which was sold immediately; I received $10 for the skirt. I also consigned a brand new Daniela Gregis pants purchased at $550. They listed and sold it at $60 - quickly after posing; I received $12.

Sent a brand new with tags LeVian ring. They CUT THE TAG OFF! WHY? New bags have tags, new clothes have tags. They had NO right and NO reason to do that. I am LIVID!
I sent a NEVER used pristine Gucci ladylock bag in. I asked five times for an indicator. They told me AFTER it was on the site I would see the price. Um, no, you will tell me the price RANGE now or zip want my bag back. I'm supposed to find out the price when it's live so somebody can buy it and I'm just sol if I don't like the price. Shady shady shady! It took three weeks and the BBB getting involved to get my bag returned.
They returned it with the crossbody strap attached, shoved in the dust bag and tied the straps in a double knot.
I sent the strap (which contains the keys) on a separate pouch so it couldn't get band or scratch the unscratched hardware.
I am so SO angry! Now I have a ring that's brand new with a cut off tag, so where's the proof it's brand new. They just dropped the value of a brand new item!
Imagine all the bs the people are going through when people buy their stuff. They need to be closed down. They're a disgusting business.

I've feel lied to and cheated - talk about bait-and-switch between the come-on and the received results! This company's lack of ethics clearly shows they're trying to avoid bankruptcy, screwing their "customers" out of everything they can get before they go under. Don't front them ANYTHING and leave the chance they'll owe you! I sent an original-price $150 shirt NWT for them to sell, in return they sent me $4.40. After charging me $10 to send that in a check (I was given no choice on, I'd prefer electronic payment - no cost to receive my money faster - so here they play the float on mail time for all of their checks, AND charge the customer a hidden $10 fee?!). Meanwhile, I'd never have sold the shirt through them if I had ANY idea I'd receive so little - their website shows they sold my item for $72. They sent me $4. You do the math. I might as well have gone through Goodwill. AND their customer service is heavily-accented Indian, who plead helplessness to resolve.
Tip for consumers:
I tried to contact the company, their heavy-accented Indian tele-helper could offer no help but to "forward my complaint" for eventual company resolution (no timeline, no documentation for me - no comfort they'll actually DO anything).
