I have been a big seller and buyer on The Real Real since the beginning of the company in 2015! I have made about $400,000 selling pieces that I was not going to wear again. Also, I am a buyer of mostly "pristine" and "excellent" items on consignment. There are so many people who buy things and not wear/use them at all, and sell them new in the box with tags!

Therealreal is a scam. They take high-value items for consignment and list them at ridiculously low prices, allowing their internal employees to steal them from online clients' carts or even after payments have been made. They cancel transactions and resale the items to their friends, who then post them on eBay for a profit. Please do not consign with this company; you will receive almost nothing for your high-value stuff. The company has no control over their employees, so employees do whatever they want, including defrauding their customers and running a side business for themselves

They refunded, but interest was charged. Mind you I sent back asap and directed them about items. Both items are for sale right now and both are incorrectly listed. Clasp will not stay shut when wearing. So long story short I feel into a trap. Cost me $75 to feel like crap. $30 to see first looks. Great.
I do not recommend Affirm or TRR.

I love the concept of The RealReal: get good deals on high-end, well-made clothing, while also doing something that's environmentally friendly. The main problem is trying to find clothing that actually fits. I get that sizing is different in different countries, but the website purports to show actual "measurements" that are, in reality, entirely inconsistent. In theory, two articles of clothing with the same measurements should fit roughly the same. Instead, I've had to send most of my purchases back for returns. This wouldn't be too terrible, but at $12 shipping each way, those great deals pretty quickly lose their luster.

Knowing how much elite crap I have in my possessions, it becomes obvious that I could do well trying to purchase (at a huge discount) the marvelous excess belongings of others in my boat. TRR is the only spot I'd trust on bespoke designers and epic possessions. It's so hard to beat, why bother. Shop the stars, not the retail sales.

From consignment to customer support to the retail store in San Francisco, every employee has been professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They are all about customer happiness! This company does not return calls or emails. (call office to numerous items with them, and when I saw the prices they wanted to list them at my ask all my items to be returned to me. Instead of returning it to me they went ahead and sold some of my items at about 10% of their value. This is not acceptable to me and I will be proceeding with legal action. The remaining items that they have of mine they refused to return, I have sent over four emails and there's still no response. This has been going on for three weeks now.

They lost 10 items valued at approximately 5-6K and for 4 months gave me the run around and lies of the status of the items. Continues to be on going without any confirmation of payment or reimbursement. The items have not been posted for sale, nor do they show up in my consignor profile. It's been "under investigation" for over 3 months. Each rep tells me different updates and know of them show any progress of whether they can confirm they've lost it, if they were reimburse me, or what action they can take. TheRealReal is absolutely the worst company I've ever dealt with. If anyone wants to look into a legal options together, I'd like to connect.

Originally RealReal was a great service; when you consigned they submitted prices for you to review and asked before discounting. Now they take or reject your items with no discussion, the same item and quality are priced differently on the site, things are incorrectly labeled as "with tags" but actually worn. Just not the same experience it was several years ago.

I have been a long time, major consignor and customer with The Real Real and find that this company as of late is solely out for their bottom line and not the end customer nor consignor. Additionally, several of their employees tend toward condescending and generally rude behavior, forgetting that their top clients must be treated respectfully as they're the crux of the business.

Disappointing to also note, TRR employees are asked to put their preferred pronouns in all email signatures. And, pride propaganda is plastered all over their website particularly this month. TRR needs to understand that it's a bad look to engage politically or promote its sexual beliefs. What place does this minority opinion have in fashion? Am confused.

This is a review for my first experience selling to the Real Real. I buy from them quite frequently and am overall happy with that experience. For that reason, I thought I would consign designer goods to them as well. I sent 20 items in. All 19 were either posted or returned but one item, a Céline purse, was received, but there has been no progress. It's been nearly 2 months. The team helping me stays in regular contact but has evidently had trouble reaching another department that has the purse and that's why it's taking so long to locate it. At this point, I don't know if my purse will ever be found. Please consider my experience before selling to the Real Real.

Your people working at price establishing of clothing are amateurs. They don't know what they are doing. Sloppy in their work.
Also the charging for shipping and returning is crazy. Get with the times like net a porter, saks, and every other merchandiser.

I have to call for each item because either description is wrong (for instance "with tags" which is a major selling point or price is less in comparison to same/similar items on their site). Very inconsistent and honestly I question qualifications of their "professionals" as some prices completely makes no sense or some sellers are simply being prioritized. I'm under impression they're trying to devalue the items so they can list them for lower prices to keep the site relevant. It's very frustrating considering the high commission rate they're collecting.

I have purchased numerous items from the RealReal. As others have stated, their site contains a wide array of items that vary greatly in terms of their condition. "Very good condition" does seem to entail anything from battered to pristine. That being said, the many items I had purchased from them were all in excellent condition--some were even like new (clearly having never been worn)--and were authentic (I did have them authenticated after purchase.) I will agree with others that the shipping costs are quite high. As they don't allow returns on purses, I have not purchased any from them to date. UPDATE: I recently consigned with the RealReal, and it's been a frustrating experience. It can take months to sell items, and you often get far less than you expected when they finally do. I have had far better--and faster--experiences consigning with other consignment sites.

Be aware if you think about selling with them. All was going super well with sells person. The moment I said I had Chanel bags and other items ( Pucci, Dior, D&G) for sale she was my best friend. I took photos and asked to confirmed the prices my items would be selling ( read their contract! Small print!). The guy came in; unprepared ( no near " white glove service "), the moment my things left my house the nightmare has began. The prices were 1/2 or less then promised, items were lots, twice returned to the wrong address. They admitted when I sent them screen shots of the agreed prices that the sells woman " misstated the truth, but did nothing. They underpriced my items: which sold in 1-2 days ( naturally. Yes it was a bargain for the buyers or insiders. It is a joke! Don't trust them. They cheat you out if your money and don't take any responsibility.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful when you are selling ! Read the contract ! Agree and document your conversations . Anyhow all is useless brcause they don’t take any responsibilities for lost, or underpriced items !

The "excellent. No signs of wear" sweater had 2 holes. The scarf was seeped in overwhelming perfume, so much so that it transferred to the sweater (with the holes). Old scents are a typical "used" issue, but it should be noted somewhere in the condition, or they should not accept the item to resell. This is, after all, the RealReal where you pay a premium for vetted items. Not vetted enough!
Soaked scarf for 72 hours in vinegars & baking soda, hand washed it, AND cleaned professionally. Stink won't come out. Waste of time, efforts, money. My purchase success rate with them is about 50/50. RealReal is a risk of your time.

Not sure why it's taking so long I have been a loyal customer for years and not only I buy from the company I also consign with them. I understand the current situation with the virus So I know things will move slower but this is a little bit too slow/

I consigned numerous high priced designer items just to learn that half of them were priced wrong and mislabeled. The consignment customer service team is difficult to get hold of and don't answer emails. After many months I am still waiting for my money. Complete nightmare

Tip for consumers:
Dont sign up as a consignor. This has been a horrible experience

I received a store credit due to an item being grossly misrepresented and dirty when I received it. I returned it and didn't feel like I should pay for shipping when they item was stained and ripped. I used the credit towards a purchase which I ended up returning. Didn't realize the store credit would not be included in the refund. Their quality control has really gone down in the last few years and customer support is non existent. Will be deleting my account with them and the app. Garbage product.

Overall a nice site. Some brands are more worth it than others, so it's always good to double check against the original item/brand. The bar for item condition is high, which is nice for buyers, but not necessarily as much for consigners.

There are two things that I really dislike though:
1. I return my items in store, but am still charged a return shipping rate for it. This is not something most retail shops do. Why is the store not able to take returns and bundle them to take back to the warehouse when the new shipments come in?
2. Descriptions on items are sometimes spotty. No measurements in the kids section.

It's been 7 months no one on the realreal.com teams fix the problem it's 3 times someone's in their warehouse stolen jewelry out of my box all jewelry need to go to Chicago those 14k gold bees value over 4,000 now it's time to get a lawyer to settlement this case mrs Jenkins plays games take you round in circles this matter need to go farther then how low down they did customers on the Chanel's fake purse
