I have been a big seller and buyer on The Real Real since the beginning of the company in 2015! I have made about $400,000 selling pieces that I was not going to wear again. Also, I am a buyer of mostly "pristine" and "excellent" items on consignment. There are so many people who buy things and not wear/use them at all, and sell them new in the box with tags!
Therealreal is a scam. They take high-value items for consignment and list them at ridiculously low prices, allowing their internal employees to steal them from online clients' carts or even after payments have been made. They cancel transactions and resale the items to their friends, who then post them on eBay for a profit. Please do not consign with this company; you will receive almost nothing for your high-value stuff. The company has no control over their employees, so employees do whatever they want, including defrauding their customers and running a side business for themselves
Whilst lots of choice and has some great brands, the highlight for me is the quick shipping - which TheRealReal has no part in anyway.
Wildly inaccurate photos and descriptions of products, arrives in far worse condition than indicated on the website.

I shopped a few times for items no longer available in the market. No, the description is deceptively misleading, and the customer support team is either incompetent or doesn't care. They play the word games and don't recognize their faults. It is simply a waste of time. Look at the stock price. I hope all these people will lose their jobs soon when TRR goes out of business.

So happy to have a luxury consignment/resale site where items show up and they're great. No funky smells, no weird rips or stains, all the items are exactly as described and beautiful. Takes the stress out of online shopping for luxurywear. I particularly value keeping clothes out of the landfill and consuming in a more sustainable way. I also love how theRealReal ships with minimal/reusable packaging and no tissue paper.

I found a gift for my husband on here that I was so excited about, but they sent me the entirely wrong item. The correct item that I purchased is still listed as available on the website, but they refuse to replace my wrong item with the one that I purchased. This is after taking two weeks to get back to me. First time using this site and I was excited to try it out, but I won't be shopping there again.

Most unprofessional consigner, They hold your luxury good before they are listed on the site and hold them indefinitely when you request their return to seller. I would never buy or sell with them again.

Returned an item of expensive jewelry in person at Madison Ave, NY store (not via mail). Was told it takes 2-3 days to re-authenticate the item and then refund will be made. Chasing the $6,000 refund a week later, just receiving holding emails. Basically extremely poor return process (they seem to believe they can give you a refund whenever they happen to get around to it) and extremely poor customer service when being chased-respond after 2 days-basically saying "we will get back to you". This is not a place to buy expensive items if there is any chance you will return them. They have the item back, and a week later I have not received a refund and have no timeline on when that will happen. Simply amazing, but lesson learned. Buyer beware. Next stop-credit card company to have charge reversed.

I've ordered maybe 5 things off of TRR, The first few went off without a hitch, but the last 2 have just cost me money. They were both sunglasses, and they were both marked as men's when they were in fact women's. If they can't get these basic details right, it makes me not want to order anything more complicated from them. Any decent company would eat the cost of the initial shipping, and offer free return shipping, but they do neither of these things, so having them ship me the wrong item costs me $11.95 x 2 ($23.90 for shipping to me and the return), and them doing this twice has now cost $47.80! I'll be talking to my credit card about getting the shipping costs refunded if possible.

I ordered a pair of boots that the real real rated as "very good". When the boots arrived there was a section where the leather was completely worn off (see attached photo). I paid $1587 for these boots When I called they said they would give me a credit if $160, bringing the price of the boots to $1415. When I asked to speak with a manager they told me that was not possible. And if I return the boots which were not described correctly I will have paid $12.95 for the shipment to me and and additional $12.95 to ship them back. So I would be out almost $26. I would most likely keep the boots if they offered me a reasonable discount. This company is a complete joke and they need to be investigated!

At first I was ambient about pre loved items. Never had one. My favorite store is Neumann Marcus, that's my to go store until I discovered the REALREAL. I don't trust anything right away most esp used items, but then it changed my thoughts into nice feelings. The items are authentic, reasonable price and the people behind were trustworthy. Since I ordered my first item and with my returns/exchanged with quick response? Now I will recommend this site to my friends and relatives. Thank you for honest business

Usually I am satisfied with RealReal because they really try to do a hard job, but they are not strict enough with some buyers who keep the items too long before sending back... and it's very impolite and unfair for the ones who consigned them.

Please beware, their business practices are highly questionable, when it comes to your high end items...
I have sent some items for appraisal to theRealReal One of them was appraised too low, and the first day the listing was shown to me I disagreed with the proving and asked for my item (it's a $500 new Merlette dress listed at $80, with 20 percent off?). It was just listed that day, as far as I could tell, so I asked for it to be returned. My contact there agreed and promised to do so.
However, the very next day I'm informed by an entirely new (and quite illiterate) girl that apparently my item sold, oooops (for next to nothing of course yet there is no price to see on the site anymore) and that it won't be returned. Thank you for your patience.

Real Real is great for certian items that don't show wear and tear that well. Like Neck Ties. Dress shirts. Or things that can be cleaned easily.
I bought a cotton base ball hat for $150! And it had sweat stains from the previous owner.

The Realreal's reply has not solved the issue, so it continues to waste time. The ad blocks the size choice box really important when shopping for clothes or shoes. They have given no instruction how to close & eliminate this from screen. Acknowledging email does nothing to fix issue.

Bought a pair of Repetto a few days ago and now I've been told the shoes are not available due to "an error in their inventory system". Really? Definitely not happy and will most likely not buy from them again.

First they priced my item way too low it was a barely warm Gucci leather jacket they had priced at $500 I could have sold it myself for that. Then I complained and they adjusted the price to $1000... so weird. Then it took over a month for them to take photo and actually post the listing. Each time I needed to talk to someone it would take over and hour to talk customer service.
Oh yes and now that the listing is finally posted after they have had it for months it went to 20% off after a couple weeks so it's back to a very low price for what the item is worth.

They have had my item to consign for a month. It's been verified and priced but waiting for weeks for someone to take a photo. Massively understaffed and any answers from customer service are inaccurate and inconsistent. Sell your items elsewhere and save yourself a ton of aggravation. I called to get item back and now i will have to wait another 30 days completely missing the holiday. I was told not to worry and that Valentine's Day is right around the corner. That is NO way compensates for TRR lack of staffing, holidays, and poorly crafted answers.

I bought a fur coat from Givenchy and paid over $6 grand for it! When I consigned it with the RR they priced it $700 and put it on sale immediately for $ 575 or something like that! I was furious and very disappointed and told my luxury manager to change the price but the coat was sold right away and the management didn't even care to listen to their own manager to change the price! From now on I will only buy from them, no more consignment!

How frustrating I put a few items in cart & POOF! They were gone! I re-put them in and again and the same thing. Then I realized that the shopping cart was on a 20 minute timer. Laaaame! So then I rushed & made my purchase. Later figured out the "heart" thing but now if I do another purchase that's another shipping fee plus I do not get my additional discount? What idiots they lost out cause I would have purchased $600 worth of more stuff. Good for me I should be budgeting =P

The real real commercials have the worst outfit styling I've seen in my life, my toddler could have done a better job blindly picking garments. I don't understand why the stylist was not only allowed final say, but subsequently wasn't fired for the tremendously bad styling job to promote their product. The commercials and advertisements make me and everyone else of the influential generation not want to even associate with this ugly nonsense. Severely disappointed.

The RealReal sold me a fake Louis Vuitton bag. The stitching is off. It's does not have the correct hardware, nor the right zip closure. I have been emailing for almost two weeks with customer service requesting to speak with an authenticator and they literally won't do it. Do NOT buy from here.
