These guys are another homeowner contractor search site. They have a different approach though. You tell them what you want and they will find the contractor for you. I'm a little uneasy about this approach as I would rather pick out the contractor I want before inviting them over to my house. Part of me wonders if they take this approach to mask their lack of content. I'm really not sure. I do like the nice clean layout of the site and they look professional. For me, it's not really how I operate though.
Hired plumber Mike Fisher through Thumbtack. He was nice and personable, but obviously green. More obvious when the leaks started. Now he dodges my calls and makes excuses why he didn't show up to fix the problem. Thanks a lot Thumbtack!
Forget about trying to get in touch with a real person. Everything is automated. What ever you try to do no way to get in touch. Also I have been getting charged twice again for a customer that created a lead a week before which was a BS call and than charge me again for making another which should already show out of how ever many contractors they contact they don't want to go ahead with them and we get charged again.
Stay clear of this company as a Pro trying ro generate leads. Everytime sometimes clicks and contacts you, you get charged for that lead. 90 % of the leads either never contact you back and are dead ends. I believe this company is using phony bots as leads that you'll never hear back from or the site is full of scammers trying to get your personal information. When you request a refund thru the website not and actually person you're contacted back that you're request is denied because it doesn't follow the guidelines for a refund. Stay away and save yourself a lot of aggravation and money
Hi Joe, we're sorry to hear this feedback and that this has been your experience. We work hard to ensure the leads on Thumbtack are legitimate, and take immediate action on any spam or scam leads that our processes and teams find. If you do come across suspicious leads or have a concerning conversation with another user, we want to know here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. As for refunds, we approve or deny the requests based on our Refund Policy: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy. If you have questions about refunds, or if there's anything we can do to turn your experience around, please reach out to us directly.
Worst Marketing site you can use they'll take your money say they'll give it back if the connection between you and the customer doesn't work out but then if you try to refund something that's accurate they'll find a excuse to not give you the refund. It's there way of robbing you blind.Don't waste your time or Money seriously!
I purchased a large pack of credits as a wedding officiant. Our typical price is about $100. They started to charge 4 credits per quote, which was about $12 or more. Discovered that the majority of my quotes were unread or the person had hired someone within seconds of my quote. I also believe that employees of Thumbtack put out fake requests to eat up your credits and force you to purchase more.
I tried getting project cost estimates from 5 different contractors through thumbtack.com. Only one responded to the request, but didn't follow through with a formal cost estimate. The others didn't respond at all, so I called them directly. None followed through on their promises/commitments to either call back or show up when promised. The review rating for one of the contractors was a 5-Star but was the single review was from the receptionist I spoke to. So, I assume thumbtack.com isn't too selective about what contractors they represent or promote. I'm quite disappointed.
I am one of the top pro on Thumbtack as heating and cooling specialist. I was not happy with their charges ( Contractors being charged extremely high each time they send a quote to a customer for any work) but I was kinda managing it and was able to establish good customer service and a review record. They made changes to charges and suppose to be better but oh my God! What a rubbery... They charged me 75$ for sending a quote to customer even though not certain that the customer is legend and customer never went beyond just sending me a text.( yes I have been charged 75$ because customer send me a message saying "he will call".)
I stopped sending quotes to customers pause all that hard work good service due charges extremely high. That also means contractors will increase their charges because Thumbtack charges more than they should.
We called customer service we give them notice that a customer change her request and then Thumbtack refused to refund us our money in the services that we provide all that is listed in our profile offer after hour service the customer originally requested same day service then they came back with a nighttime service which we do not offer several items that was not checked off as extra work was not checked off originally six hours later if the request came up again under a different criteria which we would not have did it, because we do not offer those services
I am updating my review and changing it from one star to five stars because it is actually proved to work for us. We love Thumbtack much better than Porch if comparing the two. Easy to use, and provides very informative leads. We like it. The customer base is about average or below average, but overall, Thumbtack is helping us out a lot.

We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
