“Excellent Job! We were very pleased.”

Debra J.
2/15/17

Cutting Edge Home Improvement, LLC team has done several jobs for us and we liked their work so much my husband and I kept calling them back to do more! We were very pleased and would recommend this company. With many years of experience, they were very knowledgeable and it showed in their work. From a major job like a deck to smaller jobs, you won't be disappointed.

Top Critical Review

“Poor service. SCAM!”

Hans B.
10/1/24

They charge for every "lead" they give you. 90% of the "leads" are fake and are probably created by their own bots. It's a total scam, and customer service is practically nonexistent! They are charging more for leads than the revenue you will get. For example $68.00 for a fake lead that might have netted a total of $390.00 if it were real. It's a total scam!

Thumbtack will "introduce you to professionals to do your work"! Yes, they will ~
PROFESSIONAL THEIVES!
My sister referred me to a man & wife who she hired through Thumbtack to clean her house. I was always home with Angie & Jim Hammons when they came to clean but after a few months I left them for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, they stole EVERY piece of my family's inheritance throughout the house - EXPENSIVE IRREPLACEABLE ITEMS ~ so many precious pieces with extreme sentimental value - ALL MY HEIRLOOMS not to mention expensive cosmetic products that were brand new (Lancome, Profession hair products), a fit bit, and everything else they could get hold of. I'm just sick over this. Of course, Thumbtack won't take responsibility for the liability since I didn't get them directly through them. The local authorities will.

I've since done my homework that I should've done before hiring these grand larceny thieves but took for granted they were at least decent people with no criminal records. Nope! Angie Hammons spent 2 years in jail for stolen credit card and identity theft. Got out of jail & immediately hired on with Thumbtack!

Who would've thought an organization as large and well-known would not even check criminal backgrounds on the people they let in. Who would've thought Thumbtack who has a 1,000,000,000 liability wouldn't even do a background check on their own people? Would you assume the people you hire throughThumbtack were at least good, decent people?

Think again.

In February of 2015, I started the process of obtaining a Change of Use permit... I thought it would be an easy process but I had no idea how challenging it would be dealing with Building and Safety and the bureaucracy I would have to go through, or the different departments I would be shifted to or the constant fees I would have to pay only to be denied in the end because of the lack of parking spaces. I was frustrated, aggravated and totally worn down, leaving in tears after my last visit... I was almost ready to give up... Instead, I decided to hire a professional to help me obtain the permit... I came across Thumtack and explained my project, within minutes I was contacted by building designer, Reza Nasr. From the beginning of our conversation, he seemed knowledgeable, professional and genuinely empathetic about my situation. He explained the process and encouraged me not to give up... This made me feel comfortable and confident that he was the person that could help me... From the time I handed him all the paperwork, blueprints and information I had accumulated over the past year, he took the reins. He came out to our property, re-did our blueprints, booked appointments with planners, dealt with Building and Safety on my behalf, all while and keeping me informed in each step of the process Finally, after 3 months, he did what I had been trying to do for over year... And now with my permit in hand, I couldn't be happier! I will use Reza in all my future projects and refer him to anyone that needs a trustworthy, professional, knowledgeable building designer that can get the job done!

When Thumbtack was just becoming known a few years back there were approx 5 pros for every lead.
Because we hustled to be the best we received a fair share of business which made them a worthy investment at $3 per quote.
Fast forward two years and the leads have not increased yet the pro population has exploded to at last count 64 pros per lead in my area alone.

We stopped receiving even simple responses to quotes quite some time ago and found out it was because the few leads there are get inundated with quotes at lowball prices.

Thumbtack makes it's money from pros sending quotes out yet even the best qualified and lowest priced pros don't stand a chance against 63 other lowballing pros for the same lead.

TT claims they limit quotes to 5 per lead which I know is a flat out lie because my neighbor signed up as a customer and received over 40 bids within days on a job.

Even if I hadn't known this then simply do the math. 64+ pros in an area are paying $3 per quote to compete for the same lead yet TT supposedly only picks 5 out of the 64 to allow to send quotes?
Right!
How do they choose who gets to quote or who doesn't?
The claim is absurd. This would mean 59 pros who paid for block credits aren't even being exposed to what few leads come in. No matter how you slice it the math doesn't add up.

The worst part of all of this is TT promises the moon and deliberately does not let the new pros signing up know what they are up against because then obviously nobody in his right mind would sign up.

As Thumbtack income from pros increases the pros themselves make even less because the odds get even worse with every new pro joining.

They remind me of a multi level marketing pyramid scam where you made money back when they first started but now nobody but the owners make $ as it's grown.

It's simple. A bigger Thumbtack equals more pro competition, more income from pros but a zero increase in leads.
If you are in an unusual high demand specialty type business with little competition then you can get some business from TT but otherwise you are simply throwing your time and money away just to make Thumbtack richer.

Have to agree with the majority of contributors here... When you sign up and look at the number of "leads" sent to you on your cellphone doesn't seem possible that one vendor can generate so much legitimate work... Anyone reasonably intelligent would doubt that there's tons of jobs coming in everyday just for the taking... because there aren't... lol. There might be a few real jobs there but the rest...

I got a lead for a wedding and at the time thought i was the only that would be responding (0 pros contacted) first mistake...

The supposed wedding... Nadine Kh^%$$... was supposed to be 5 days later... Wow... most important date in most people's lives and this one is booking a photographer in the middle of August 5 days before... the date was set in the request according... a Saturday in August...

I get a "response" later --" What is your availability? " Ok... And what is that supposed to mean? They mean when am I available to shoot? So that they can get married according to my schedule? Or when am i available to chat? But they dont' specify that at all..."What is my availability" ----four words from someone who is supposedly getting married in less than a week... For this garbage I got charged $32... I sent a message asking to clarify..."What do you mean... availability to chat? Availability to shoot? Availability for what? No response... Waited another day asked if they're still looking - no response...
There are legit leads and there is pure garbage... Phony leads...
They tell me to keep on them... keep messaging "them". I said listen... haha... I wasn't born yesterday...
Use at your own peril and watch your pennies...

I believe that some folks might actually make some money on Ttack... depending on the area of expertise AND number of reviews... Some folks might have 70 -200 reviews... because they got on when the company was new... good... If you dont have a ton of reviews - good luck getting anything... You're just throwing your money away... Maybe after 10 years and paying a lot of fees that never pay off you might get some reviews... But during that time you'll be losing money unless you're real lucky...
Watch your back...

I am a working DJ in the Denver market, DJMatau.com. This is my story...

http://prntscr.com/lhwrqp
http://prntscr.com/lhws0n
Wow, just wow. I received the top screenshot from Thumbtack. You can clearly see in the top blue line
"Congrats, no need to quote!
Jenna O. Has already selected you from a list of pros. Reply to seal the deal."
You can clearly see a $2600 price point.
The second screen shot shows in the line messages
"We are fun! Pick us!"
When I reached out to this client it told me I was going to be charged almost $45. Fortunately, I had hit my weekly budget, but I did not know at the time.
So, I reached out to the client. I wrote up a nice intro full of congratulations regarding her engagement and thanking her for her interest. I stated that I would need a little more info before I could draw up a contract.
Her response was,
"I have never heard of a DJ that costs more than $650. Thanks but that is just way out of our budget"
I was frustrated and I wrote back.
"Thanks, I just paid $45 for the privilege for this exchange. Next time you ask for an interaction know that the DJ is being charged. "
She then wrote back I didn't ask you to contact me. You reached out to me. We went back and forth a little more, but we remained polite. She then posted a 1 star review to my page and cut and pasted snippets of our conversation creating a narrative that was not the truth.
I contacted Thumbtack and asked for the only 1 star review I have ever received in 2.5 years to be removed. I showed them the evidence of our conversation and demonstrated with facts that what this client wrote was untruthful. Thumbtack refused to remove the review because it was about how the client "feel" regardless of the truth.
The other issue is that the client didn't understand she reached out to me. The messages I received from Thumbtack would indicate that I have a person who has been looking at my page. They are aware of the price you can see on the screenshot above. If I reply at this time it's a turn key deal. The truth is anything but that.
In the end, after spending nearly 5 hours dealing with customer service, I was forced delete my account.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT USE THIS APP IF YOU ARE A CONTRACTOR LOOKING FOR BUSINESS. THEY LITERALLY PULLED ALMOST $200 FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT AND DEACTIVATED MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE I AM APPARENTLY "LINKED" TO A BUSINESS THAT THEY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH! ONE OF MY SALESMEN USE TO BE IN BUSINESS FOR HIMSELF AND HAD HIS OWN PROFILE WITH THEM... AFTER HE STOPPED USING THE APP THEY CHARGED HIS CARD $147 FOR LEADS THAT WERE FAKE. NOT ONLY DID THIS PUT HIM IN THE NEGATIVE BUT HE HAD NO MONEY TO PAY HIS EX WIFE FOR CHILD SUPPORT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE HIS SON FOR 2 WEEKS! I HAD HIRED HIM TO WORK WITH ME AND HELP ME SEND QUOTES, AFTER SENDING JUST A FEW QUOTES WITH HIS NUMBER ATTACHED THEY WENT INTO MY PROFILE AND STOLE MONEY THAT HE SUPPOSIVLY OWED THEM. AGAIN YALL PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS APP YOU WILL 100% REGRET IT. - Marlin Dunn (Dunn Right Moving)
P. S - I DONT EVEN HAVE A WAY TO MAKE INCOME ANYMORE BEACUSE OF THIS SCAM, PLEASE LISTEN AND DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AS ME. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THUMBTACK OR USE THEIR WEBSITE. THE MOMENT YOU PUT YOUR CARD INFO IN THEY WILL STEAL EVERYTHING!
THIS IS AN ELABORATE SCAM BEING RAN OUT OF THE PHILIPPINES!

Craig, the recruiter confirmed most definitely after asking how many, often and if the costly referrals could be controlled and limited considering my son was operating on a small budget of $200. I asked Craig to limit the referrals. My son's account was showed with referrals to the tune of $685 before he was able to stop the referrals to his account. Unfortunately, my son had provided Thumbtack with the same account that his monthly social security disability is paid into. Hence, Thumback kept debiting his account until there were funds available.
Stay AWAY!
Thumbtack charged my son for a barrage of various types of domestic referrals (house and carpet cleaning, etc.) without vetting his criminal history to be safe for potential customers. Because of the barrage of referrals that were not limited we called Thumbtack on three (3) separate occasions. The farthest we could get with the resolution department that was the customer service and customer support department operated by seemed to be two people (1 male & 1 female) who stated they could only send a message to Craig to ask he call my son because Craig was with the Sales department. I requested the Sales Department supervisor's contact information, and I was told there was no contact information for the supervisor in their possession. I questioned how could Thumbtack's customer service, support and resolution departments not have a listing of employees, let alone directors and supervisors. Next, I requested for Thumbtack's legal department contact information. The representative stated to me, "We do not have a phone number, but I can provide you with the department's address." The representative sent a generic email containing this address on a generic email listing no return or contact information only Thumbtack, Inc., Attn: Legal Department, 415 Natoma St., Suite 1300, San Francisco, CA *******.

I contacted them because I recently tried to get some work done through their app. I contacted a company called Bluefiks and received an insane 1799 quote for something they quoted they could do for 999 a few months earlier. After I said no to their 1799, I got a quote of 999 from a sub-contractor that works for Bluefiks. How can the same job, done by the same person cost 800 more? If the sub-contractor can do it for 999 then bluefiks shouldn't be allowed to charge 1799 considering it's being done by the same people. If they want to give other people business then that extra money should come out of the sub-contractors end, not added onto the customers bill. After I learned what they were doing I left bad reviews on everyones pages. After I did that, I get a message from the onwer of Bluefiks saying that thumbtack will just remove my review since I didn't use them. I replied back with well google and yelp won't remove them :). A few minutes after i sent that message I get a text message from the Owner of Bluefiks Mani with just my home address, which I have no memory of giving them. I come from a place where something like that is a threat. He is trying to say I know where you live. Why else would he do it? I sent tons of text back and I got 0 replies. His phone was turned off and hasn't been on since.

I contacted thumbtack in hopes they would do something, but all they say is they will contact Mani to investigate. Even though I sent them a picture of the text message as proof. They don't care about me, they only care about making money and he is one of their top pros. Meanwhile, he is continuing to make money through their app while I have a frightened family at home.

Tip for consumers:
Contacted small companies for the same work

Mars Transportation Services is a dishonest company. Starting from the point they pick up your belongings and take your money, their customer service goes out the window. They completely botched an interstate move.

Everything was packed and they still managed to lose and damage SO much and take absolutely no responsibility. They actually admitted to finding a large basket full of designer handbags and have refused to send them to me, they also admitted that a customer at another location walked on to the truck and took something that belonged to me. In addition, they gave me a quote and once they loaded all my belongings on their truck, the price doubled.

Nicole H., the sales rep, hung up on me and stopped returning my calls and returning my emails. She finally answered my call just recently and told me she no longer works for Mars, however, I had a friend of mine call to schedule a move and Nicole booked the job. Nicole H. Is a liar and truly represents the integrity of this company.

I have reported them to the BBB, the NYS Office of the Attorney General, the FMCSA, and filed a police report. If you have been a victim of this company, report them as well! Moving in itself is stressful enough without a moving company treating you like this.

Approximately, 80 percent of consumers who were unhappy with a company interaction stopped patronizing that business, warned others to stay away, or shared negative feedback with the company directly and in online reviews. They are stealing from people and eventually after the police reports, and reports to the NYS AG, these people will be arrested. When looking for a moving company, you can always check their DOT# and get more info as this company was able to manipulate their reviews. Their info is: USDOT *******

This referral site is tricky to use, and they change things up so often that your investment of time and money may be wasted if one of their changes makes it impractical for you. I don't recommend it. It took months and lots of money to get our first online client there, despite often having a waiting list locally. Once we did, we got regular business, but we ended up taking two customers who attempted to defraud us and lost money on both accounts. Thumbtack could have been helpful but wasn't.

They really don't have any screening mechanism or accountability for customers or for reviews. So, be very careful about accepting clients via Thumbtack. They don't have anyone who seems to have a clue about how small businesses really work and will just read scripts to you if you try to discuss how one of their many changes or an existing feature is impacting your business. They think it's a matter of just telling you how their software works and don't understand the business process.

After we lost money on two fraudulent customers for larger contracts, we decided to take our account off Thumbtack and close our page. We were assured that when people searched of us and our business, there would be no connection to Thumbtack. Instead, people who search for my personal name and the name of my company land on a Thumbtack page that makes it appear as though my account was removed for some negative reason and as though I've gone out of business. They then invite the visitor to find my competitors through Thumbtack.

So, despite all the money I paid to Thumbtack in the process of connecting with customers, they have now repaid me by giving people who are searching specifically for me and my business the idea that I'm a bad risk and out of business anyway. While the page doesn't technically say that, every customer who has told me about landing on that page has said that was their impression.

So, if you don't want your future potential customers to think you were kicked off Thumbtack and went out of business, be careful about creating an account on Thumbtack in the first place. The way they've changed things, it's really far too expensive to use, at least in my business. We get much more business from free methods than we ever got from Thumbtack, though that may not be true for you. Check out what people find when they search for me now:

Oh my. Where do I start. Spoke to the gentleman a couple times before my move. Told him I had a 2 bd 2bath apt to move across the street to a1st floor apt since I can; t do 2nd floor steps anymore. He said he would do it for $ 425. Shocked but happy to save money. As time went on I felt a little insecure and called to check if there was still an active number. Ok so day comes. He's on time but where is his help. And thankfully it wasn't raining since he had an open tag- along t railer.? So he looks around while he was on his cell. Then said" this goes too? No I don't need a dresser anymore. Goof! Trust me I am a minimalist and have only what I need in each room. Come on isn't a dresser kind of standard? He wasn't happy. He then says "I know I quoted you $450 (what happened to $425} but I need $600. I told him no. He should have asked for a list or came ahead to look it over I offered $500 and he finally said ok. Now the other man shows up-{on his cell} Every couple minutes he would ask if this or that had to go, Now when I think of someone moving I assume everything in apt is being transferred to another apt. Yea sure I; m leaving this table or that lamp. Now he's getting me pissed. Then they started. Thankfully my daughter and son in law were at the new place. Clearly inexperienced and not interested in working or concern for my items. They were just dropping boxes in the living room even though they were marked which room until my daughter stopped them. She told them the boxes were marked for a reason which he didn; t like but started shuffling to get the hell out,
I would never use them again
Very shoddy work, unequipped to be movers, on cell the ENTIRE time, tried to get more money from me after quoting price.

I have exellent reputaion, references, 20years professianl experience, Bachelor's degree, clean criminal background - verified by thumbtack. I recieved 20 leads. To almost all of them I offered first lesson free. None responded. Of leads with the phone #s:
1 was answered "wrong #". 1 was "# not in service". The rest 4 had answering recording without a name of a person. None called back.
I checked some names through White pages and none came back as valid.
Sarinya Permthamsin for example does not come up in White pages at all. In any city in NV
Other's with more common names come up by tens, but none would be of age on his/her Thumbtack's lesson request. It's all BS and maybe if small protion of it works. I think Thumbtuck writes BC requests and sells them to us. there is no way to validate any of the quotes, it's all through TT sytem. One common thing about requests i got -they all state
That they want to learn music but not one requests more than one lesson a week.
Those who know music will agree - takes more than one lesson a week to get anywhere.
Shame on thumbtack exploiting people's needs and desires to work.

Tip for consumers:
If you want to check whether the leads are real people, offer something noone can refuse and see if they recpond.
Like a free quote, or free lesson.

We hired a professional by using Thumbtack's website, which gave us "peace of mind" when it stated that they have a guarantee that protects the clients from damages caused by a professional hired on their website. Their website's set up is that for the client to believe that their professionals stand above the rest. That proved to be untrue in our case, when we hired a professional with fictitious recommendations and claims to have been in the handyman industry for many years.

The work performed in our home by Thumbtack's service member, left us with having to redo everything he was hired to do as he had no apparent craftsmanship in the installation of floors or bathroom vanities. He butchered the back of our vanity and hammered floors down that only required to be clicked in place. All the floor seal snaps were hammered and broken, which allowed water to penetrate floors. We followed every single step required by Thumbtack to show evidence and proof of incurred damages. This included receipts, cashed checks by the pro and pictures. We understood that their guarantee policy is to only cover for damages in the case that the professional does not reimburse the client. Our hired professional refused to accept any responsibility for his negligence that caused the damages. This dispute has now taken five solid months of numerous emails. When we all finally came to an agreement of payment to be made to us using the Thumbtack's Guarantee to cover our damages, it went back to more emails, yet requesting more proof and evidence of things they had already reviewed. The latest request from Thumbtack was for us to provide them with the telephone number of the person that helped us remove the damages caused, so that we could get the work redone. This is after Thumbtack had already accepted our receipts for Lowe's, Home Depot and hand written receipt of damages removal and the copy of the bank cashed check that was given to the person that did this small removal job. This request to obtain a phone number to call and confirm the work done was just unacceptable to us (very disrespectful) and it seemed as a way to keep prolonging a pay out. Please stay away from this company's "guarantee" facade and do read the small print that prohibits you from filing any type of class action suit. Basically if anything goes wrong with your project, you lose.

I had a VERY large move the other day. I hired Movers Connections after getting a Thumbtack account and hiring them after they sent me a quote. We, (my sister and I) have very large and old heavy antique furniture. We were moving from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom townhome. She wanted to take EVERYTHING! And the three guys from Movers Connections did just that! On top of that, some things were not packed and it was chaotic and frustrating for us and doubly so for the movers. When Michael, Julio and Edwin showed up to move us I was doubtful they could actually do it but how wrong I was! Michael the team leader was a wiry little guy with no muscles showing. Julio is 57, and Edwin looked like he still should be in school chasing the girls! These guys were astonishing! The move took about 10 hours to tell you how much stuff there was. They had stairs to climb with the heaviest furniture, a piano and couches, chairs loveseats and boxes, so many boxes! These guys deserve a rating of 10 STARS! Additionally, they had closed the contract because they thought they would be finished but ended up having to stay about 4 additional hours. Michael told me his boss said we needed to go back on the clock and I was a little huffy about that. At a two hour minimum for $95.00 an hour was getting to be too steep. James, the big boss said he would cut us some slack and allow me to pay for just one hour. I wasn't happy but i said OK. In about another hour and with still more furniture to unpack, Michael came to me and said the deal with squashed! They were not charging me another dime! I couldn't have been happier of course! And they still were not finished! And, they had a small move after that and I believe it was going on 8 or 9pm! Whenever you need a big move, call Movers Connections! You will not regret hiring these guys I promise you! Clean, neat, professional and they really care about how your furniture is treated. They were careful not to break anything at all and spent a few hours just wrapping and securing the furniture, removing the weights from the clock, tying down furniture so it didn't slide, etc...
