IF ANYONE COMES TO THIS SITE, RUN AWAY AND PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DON'T PAY IN ADVANCE LIKE I DID. PAID IN ADVANCE NEVER SAW THE GUY AGAIN! CONTACTED THUMBTACK TO GET REFUND, GOT THE RUNAROUND - FILLED OUT REFUND REQUEST4 TIMES GOT SILENT TREATMENT. THEY ARE THE WORST EVER! 2022-23. KEEP YOUR MONEY!
Worst customer support ever
I am waiting for 23 minutes, no one answering no one picking up my call
What are you doing there? Just collect our money without any answers?
Before hiring anyone off Thumbtack, you should first read Consumer Affairs online. Evidently there are many dissatisfied customers. I was recently ripped off and charged over $200.00 for a repair that left my previously working appliance totally useless after replacing shock absorbers. Not only was repairman unqualified, he was also dishonest. I learned an expensive lesson and will never use Thumbtack again!
They have been takin money out of my account and i didnt know. They say they will look into it and never call me back and the wait on hold is a hour. I will file smalls claims court for my 800.00 they took

I was just charged over $235 for 3 identical leads that were scams. Similar names of a potential customers asking for an estimate for our services with the EXACT same phone number, same scope of work and add-on services, same replies thorugh the messanger on the website and the person sent the same broken English texts to our business phone asking us to follow up with someone via email.
Thumbtack refused to refund but also only gave a credit for 2 out of the 3 scam leads which is to be used on future lead fees ONLY and the 3rd scam lead was refused even a credit which was $89!
Most likely there is someone working for Thumbtack creating this scam leads to generate revenue for the company since they state they do not give refunds but only credits which is money they get to keep anyway going towards future lead fees.
Hello!
I'm a pro in thumbtack app.
I was charged multiple times for leads when customer didn't hire me or never even got back to me. I did the refund but thumback said it's agains their policy.
And I can't even imagine how many times I was charged for nothing. So I'm charged for the lead and another person is charged for THE SAME LEAD! Meanwhile only one of us got a client. Insane!
So you got you money 2 times or god knows how many poor people you charged just to see the message from potential client.
To avoid such situation your wonderful company could just change one simple thing in the policy. DONT SHOW PROS AND COSTUMERS THEIR NAMES, phone number or websites till the job is confirmed by the pro! Problem solved! You're welcome!
If you gonna charge people for nothing people will stop you use your website. You're already have a very bad reputation online. Time to fix your policy. Good luck.
I haven't used the thumbtack for more than 3 months. Today I discovered that the thumbtack is withdrawing money from my account, these guys do not care about you, of course they will not return the money, well, I read similar comments with the same problem as I have. The service is incomparable, withdrawing money from all specialists is sacred at the thumbtack, despite the fact that there is only one client
Years ago this used to be a legitimate lead generating platform, but now I am convinced that 90% of the leads are fake.Potential customers used to be real leads, but not anymore. I have had so many leads that say they only picked me, yet when I contact them it's a bad number, or they never respond. However, I am charged for each of these bogus leads.
Save your money and don't waste your time on Thumbtack!
Shady business practice tactics to take your money. Fake lead service. Some leads are real but when its slow for this company, I believe they provide fake leads. Thumbtack provides businesses leads, I (the pro) then must pay for a $ retainer (or credit card on file) for leads based on my parameters through a registered credit card on their site, either Thumbtack provides that lead or the lead contacts the pro through Thumbtack. The pro then contacts the lead using ALL methods (i.e. Email, phone call, text, and Thumbtack messaging) only to get zero responses. One time is fine but when it happens often, that is a shady practice. I deleted my account after paying Thumbtack tons of money. No different than Bark.com and Bark are blatant criminals. I thought Thumbtack was different. However, they need to make money to pay their employees somehow. Consumers beware.
Working with Thumbtack Pro was a thoroughly disappointing experience. After signing up with Thumbtack Pro, I can honestly say I have had a terrible experience and do not recommend them for other service providers. Not only are their services extremely expensive, the customer service is below par and the leads provided were of extremely poor quality. Hold times for a customer service representative are well over forty five minutes. Customer service is outsourced and escalating to management does nothing additional but get you a prefabricated email. In addition to the fake leads that come through, I was particularly shocked by their refusal to refund any of the funds paid for their services even after repeated requests. In my opinion, this company does not deserve anyone's time or money and I cannot recommend them in good faith. For these reasons, as well as many others, I do not recommend Thumbtack Pro.
I am a Pro on Thumbtack and it charge hefty price for every job lead, for example, on a wedding photography work the potential customer pay range is $700- $1000, Thumbtack charge $80, it is not a big deal if it ended up landing this job, or even if I did not land the job, at least it is a real job out there. Too often I found it is a scammer, or people who never intend to use thumbtack to find a pro, or nutty people who think they deserve and entitle everything free for them. I ended losing the money twice as much as I earned from Thumbtack, If thumbtack is not doing something substantial, I do not see it too far away for Thumbtack belly up
I never get qualified leads for my dance studio or me marketing company. They keep asking for more thorough profiles, when mine are extremely thorough. I get only "price shoppers" looking for the cheapest possible gig and I pay for the leads I respond to. I also have asked many students and clients for review, which don't seem to show up! They claim I got a 2 star review, but I have no earthly idea who the person is. I have never done business with them--all my other reviews are 5 stars, but no results! Stay away, unless you are a handyman or clean houses.
I considered signing up for thumbtack and started the online process and selected a package they offered during Black Friday. Before completing, I paused the process to read some reviews and decided I did not want to continue. I deactivated my account and contacted customer service to inform them that I did not complete the process and do not want my cc charged for the package. They responded to me informing me that they have charged my cc and will not offer a refund. The extract response received " As it states the purchase is nonrefundable prior to selecting a package and making the purchase, this is not something we may refund. Although I understand you've decided to close your account, this is not something we may reconsider. The credit will never expire and may be used should you decide to use it prior to closing your account, or later should you return.I know this is not the answer you hoped for however I appreciate your understanding. If you need assistance reactivating to use the remaining credit please let me know, otherwise I wish you the best and thank you for your time.". The reviews are accurate, customer service is terrible and several people say the leads are fake and will not get you any business. Hope this helps someone else considering helping this company make their $3.2billion dollars.
DO NOT use this platform. You have to pay for leads, even if you don't get the job. The money doesn't go back on your account it just stays in Thumbtack. Even when you go to cancel the account, they pocket the money. Every lead is just automatically charged. Also de-activating the account is a nightmare. I finally had to call in and ask THEM to do it manually. Then I lost my money. Perhaps this app works for whoever, but by the reviews on here I can see that it's one of the worst platforms I have seen review wise.
I started setting up my business on their website: https://www.thumbtack.com to get leads and to see what the ad would look like. A pop up happen saying to activate the account I needed to pay a deposit and if you do so now, we'll add $100 towards your adverting budget, So I stupidly did. After doing so I decided to do research on the company. OMG, had I done my research I would have never signed up! All the bad reviews are true! I immediately attempted to close me account, I couldn't find a phone number, so I went through the website form. Once submitted, it said someone would contact me. Three days later still no word from Thumbtack, a lead came. So, I responded to the email, that gave me access to their phone number. I call, got vm and left the same information. Haven't heard back so I called the lead again. They picked up the phone and immediately hung-up, I called back, the same thing. So, I went back the thumbtack' website, still no response to close my account...I requested a refund on the lead as it was most likely a scammer. Still no response from Thumbtack. Digging through their website I managed to find a phone number buried deep in the Q&A's...unfortunately this was late Friday, and they were closed till Monday. I called first thing Monday morning, was on hold for approximately 20 minutes before an agent picked up. This was a huge waste of time. I was told (exactly what the review complaints say) was told it is there policy not to refund scam leads, and they would not refund my deposit of $300 as per there no refund policy. I explain to them I try canceling with the hour of my original setup and reading the poor reviews but felt I was almost tricked and rushed through the setup to view the new account/get the extra $100 free towards new leads. What a mess...the agent was so unhelpful. I asked to speak with a manger, and I was put on hold for 15 minutes till I was disconnected. I called Back, went through the whole process of explaining, same scripted response. Decided to report this to my back to fight for me.
So I signed up thinking this could be a great way to generate leads and I got 3 leads really quick. My sales rep called them and they were not legit leads. No one called back and one did say they were no longer looking through the system. So now, Thumbtack had $500 of my money. I had no way to get it back. I have now gotten another lead and 30 days later, this one had a weird name and we did not contact, they took money out of the $500 bank they had of mine for bad leads. I have since gotten an email from them saying not refundable. So good scam I guess, they got over $500 of my money and I didn't even talk to one potential lead.
Thumbtack has become an oversaturation of fake/scamming businesses that change their name after thumbtack bans them and the cycle starts all over. Then Thumbtack charges me for duplicate leads of the same request. Thumbtack has become a money-hungry lead-generating company that does not value legit pros and allows anyone on the platform! Beware of anyone you hire from Thumbtack because thumbtack says that they background check them but it is most likely a lie! I can show 3 companies on hand that is not legit run by a person who is a scammer and yet their profile is still active on Thumbtack! I am done being a victim of thumbtacks poor management skills and money-hungry ways! As for the person who took my call, I had to deal with her baby crying in the background! Customer service speaks loudly of how the platform is managed!
They are the baddest agency I ever seen, they stole money from business owners,I don't have any customers and they take my money. When they give a number to contact a customer, it was a wrong number, and they give me a customer off my work area, they took $162 from me, I ask for a refund and don't want to deal with them, they don't want to give me the refund, and they talk about their policy. They made the mistake and they want me to paid for it. The customer they give me they not even real. Every time I call customer service they say they can't do anything for me, don't deal with them.Run far away from them

I use the service much like Uber eats although they assured me that I would be getting the food immediately after several hours of waiting and no contact and no answer I'm really surprised that this place is even in business
If there's anything we can do to help or improve your experience, please let us know at support@thumbtack.com.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
