Zillow has a rating of 1.5 stars from 582 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Zillow most frequently mention real estate, customer service, and home value problems. Zillow ranks 1310th among Real Estate sites.
All of the real estate referrals for rentals, Vacation homes, and furnished apartments are extraordinarily expensive for what you get. In almost all cases tenants pay between six and 18% premium plus a 2 1/2% deduction for Credit card payments after the property owner pays $400 to advertise on their site. Zillow is the last of the free sites that operates just like a classified advertisement. So save yourself 10% on every vacation booking I'm getting contact with the owners directly via Zillow
We became Zillow Premier agents 5/29/24. Our first experience was a showing "no show," that was double booked with another Zillow agent, at the same property, 30 minutes prior. Agent support could not explain how this could happen. We agreed to paying $800/month for 4 leads who Zillow said would be verified pre-screened, pre-qualified leads that are ready to buy and are requesting to book appointments. This lead counted as one. With multiple calls, emails, and an escalation to supervisors, Zillow still has no explanation how this happened. They have now credited $250.00 for this one lead. In 2 months, we have had 2 bookings, both no shows. 2 calls were customers who already have agents, 2 calls were customers who requested to speak with listing agent only, 1 who pushed button to speak with for sale by owner, and none who were pre-qualified or ready to buy. In addition, we had multiple messages that we had missed a Zillow connection call, though our phones did not ring. We connected two phones to our account to ensure that we didn't miss calls and troubleshooted re-uploading app, resetting phone options, etc. and could still not answer calls once they did ring. Each of these went against our answer % rate and showed as missed or declined. When we received other calls they repeatedly failed to connect though we answered every time. We reported this multiple times through calls and emails and requested a refund. Agent support assured us that they were working to resolve and app was being updated and problem was being reported to their engineers then committed to follow up but would not return calls nor have ever provided compensation. Each failed lead was a missed opportunity to connect with a potential client which is impossible to put a price on. None of this was due to our phone system or lack of understanding how to answer. Our phone works perfectly for our other leads and clients every other day. Our phones are our business. We looked at a lot of reviews on other platforms and now realize how bad it is. We wanted to do this review to help any other agents thinking of become a premier agent. Don't waste your money it's a scam. Sent from Mail for Windows
My wife and I saw a home on Zillow that we absolutely loved. The Zillow "zestimate" was very close to our target purchase price. When the agent met us at the home, we realized that Zillow was not even close to the actual value of the home. Only about 500k too low! After further investigation, we discovered Zillow is regarded as a joke in the market. Don't waste your time with this site!
Zillow can be just plain fun! Check out what it says about your house. Check out what it says about your brothers house. Even check out your nasty neighbors house. It can be very informative as to last sale price. Not all areas are covered. There is a real lack when it comes to rural areas.
I requested a showing after not being able to contact a realtor. The Zillow rep said they would call. They texted me and said they could contact anyone. I stated that I could not either which is why I contacted them. They kept saying they would call me back in an hour and half. I asked why? What would be different in an hour and a half. They did not answer that but kept pushing that they would call back. I stated that I did not want to waste my day. Very unprofessional and never got a call. Just a bunch on mind numbing texts.
* - UPDATED - Zillow has corrected the problem so I changed it from 1 star to 4 stars...
I am trying to sell my home and Zillow seems to be going out of their way to stop it. Something changed about 45 days ago and they changed their map where my house no longer shows up correctly. When you look at the map of the city, my house does not show for sale (that hurts while I am actively trying to sell it). If you type my address in, the for sale listing does show up, but the map is off by 2 miles and it shows the house is sitting in a lake. Ever since they changed their map, my house has dropped in value by $40,000 (probably thinking that since their map shows my house is located in the middle of a lake, it is a flood zone). I have called Zillow and had to leave a voicemail and they have not called back. I left a message on their "Report a problem with the listing" section of their website. If it gets corrected timely, I will change my review to indicate such.
The people recruiting realtors will promise you anything to get you to sign up, once you have joined Zillow. What they tell you is all a lie. I did not received what I was promised nor was the way they said I was going to.
Our quality built home is in a poor mountain rural area and the Zestimate only compares the size, #of bedrooms and baths, not the condition of the comparables or other attributes that the home and property may have. Zillow constantly reports, "homes like yours sell for $xxx, xxx" that is always well below our asking price. It is impossible to contact Z to adjust the Zestimate.
Recently I had confirmation that Zillow uses an algorithm to estimate the value of premises based upon neighboring data, EXCEPT when they integrate feedback from local real estate agents. I wrote about this several times, however without concrete proof until I met a real estate agent that told me how I could buy a house for less by submitting his "estimate" online and then the price would be "correct".
While I wrote this to Zillow, no response nor adjustment ever came, so there is or a definitive fraudulent action going on to the advantage of a limited number of people or there is willful negligence in not correcting the issue. I am not the only one but probably thus far the only one who put this as internet fraud.
Started a premium rental account with Zillow. After renting the property (on Apartments.com), a free subscription, I tried to cancel my Zillow subscription. There was no customer service option to speak with anyone. You can only leave a message. So after leaving several messages on their voicemail service. Still, no call back. I again attempted to deactivate my account on their portal, only to discover that my account has been disabled because of too many attempts to deactivate it. My only recourse was to contact my credit card company and cancel my card so as to stop any future attempts to charge another month of crappy service. My suggestion: Apartments.com. Zillow's customer service doesn't exist. And if you start a premium subscription, good luck cancelling it after you find a renter as it's like pulling teeth-painful and the teeth remains there.

Zillow has had incorrect information about my house for at least a few months now--ever since I discovered the site, at least. I have tried to contact them so they can correct the information, but they are not returning my emails and have not fixed the problem. For some reason, they put on their site that my house sold for $10,500 back in 2008. I have lived in this home since the end of 2006, and have never sold it. I only refinanced it this year (2013). I can only think that they must have my home confused with my neighbor's, since that was a foreclosed home. Either way, they are not fixing the problem. I would NOT rely on Zillow for accurate information.
Don't bother going by the reviews on Zillow, they only post good reviews of the agents on their site! I filled out the thing 4 times and every time they had some crap excuse they gave why they couldn't post it. Fine the last time I let them know how much they sucked in the review!
3 times I have requested to get more information on a property. 3 times a Zillow Rep called me, asked me if I was ready to be connected with a Realtor. 3 times I was disconnected. Terrible service a complete fail and a waste of my time.
Bogatov Realty Inc. signed up for Zillow leads service in December 2013.
We signed up for 2 zip codes- ******* and ******* – total cost per month $2500
The contract commitment is a minimum of one year.
That's a total of $30,000 for the year.
Since December we did not receive one real lead.
Most of the phone numbers and emails are wrong and there is no response.
The leads who responded are out of state and are just looking around.
We asked Zillow to stop our contract. The cancelation fee is $6000.
This is a horrible service that does not provide any real leads.
I'd like to start out by saying that I've been recently trying to sell my home and noticed that Zillow's estimate on my home has been consistently dropping in price while my neighbors home value next door has been over valued. I'm basing this on square footage (my home has 2250 sq ft and my neighbors house has 1750 sq ft). I have a four bedroom house and my neighbor's house has three bedrooms. My house has so many more amenities than my neighbor's house I just didn't understand the process by which they arrived at these numbers so I wrote them. BIG MISTAKE! They told me that they will be using new data to re calculate estimates. Instead my home value has continued to de value and my neighbors house continues to increase in value. There is approximately $70,000. Difference right now. Do not rely on Zillow, they grossly miscalculate home values and do not correct their errors when it is brought to their attention; they almost seem vindictive!
Great site for checking out data on neighborhoods in terms of house prices based on tax assessment. If owner claims their property, can update site with more information about the property. Can use site to find real estate to purchase, can also use this site to advertise the sale of your house. Very helpful bird's eye view of neighborhoods with rough property lines and all house values showing, zoom capabilities though birds' eye view imagery is more current than zoomed in pictures. As i enjoy looking at real estate, i go to this site often when a house in the neighbhorhood goes up for sale.
I love that it shows me the zestimate (Zillow estimate) of how much I would be paying a month and that it is easy to navigate and filter to what we need. My only complaint is that I have reached out in the past to agents and never got any responses except for one time and it wasn't the greatest interaction. Other than that it is easy and useful, I just recommend using a Realtor you know or local to that area.
If you are in the market for a home stay clear of zillow owned homes. Their contract teams are hard to work with and they will refuse to address any issues with the homes. They will not pay for repairs. Zillow may claim a lot of good things in the seller purchase disclosure saying they they fixed and replaced a lot of items in the home to lure potential buyers, but in reality they are very negligent and do not even inspect the homes they sell to make sure their contractors have actually fixed or replaced the items they haver mentioned in the seller purchase disclosure. In the end the buyer ends ups with a home full of issues if they are not careful and conduct a through inspection.
First off, they don't screen the callers, you never know if they have an agent, no listings ever, only buyers, then they purchased Show Time, I had agents, yes agents using the make an appointment on the dashboard and two were agents, then I had a client, only got one lead the whole month of June, I could go on and on, horrible leads, over the top costs, I will be considering a law suit. Anyone want to join me?
I don't think their rating site is helpful. I wanted to publish a warning about castlerock reo, which by the way castlerock raves about their Illow reviews, but they would not let me because castlerock was the seller and not my agent. This is concerning because castlerock is not anyone's agent, they are a foreclosure seller that process a risk filled contract to the buyer and works without buyer representation. Very risky and should be called out. Is zillow biased? Can they be trusted? How many negative castlerock reviews have they rejected? We can't be sure.
There are 3 houses for sale in my area. They are about 400' from each other in the same gated community. The 3 houses has about the same sq. Ft living area ( two has exactly the same sq. Ft.). They estimated one for $681,267, the other one for $605,421, and the third one for $645,032.
The smallest lot and the poor quality home has the estimate for $681,267.
I was shocked to see grossly inaccurate info on Zillow suggesting my $322K home sold two years ago for $60k! One place on their site they say my home is worth $322K. On their little map of my neighborhood, they say it's worth $60k. This all because of refinancing info they were provided and completely botched. Now, they want me to jump through all kinds of hoops to get them to correct their mistake. Imagine the hassle if I try to sell my home and people look at the error-filled Zillow site and see their grossly inaccurate claims and actually believe them. Awful.
Who is Zillow working for zestimate low sellers cannot achieve there price to high buyers pass. Is no one at Zillow making sure sold properties are taken down this is terrible in lawyer or auction listed properties. I used a FSBO site to sell a property and even they did not mark the house as sold. Now the realty site made me sign a contract that I needed to contact them every ten days for updates or else my listing would be removed and they could lose their MLS license. So how is there no accountability here. Without a penalty no one seems to care. The forclosure listings are big offenders of this the banks and lawyers dont monitor their listings.
Recent numbers are changing massively, sometimes weekly, with no basis in fact.
For example, a house across the street from me, two doors down, just dropped from $590k to $520k over the past week with the entire past history price chart revised as if the high valuation (which was consistent over many months prior) had never existed.
The strangest and most clearly defective part is that this house sold last month, just closed and the new owner moved in over the past weekend. The sale price was $588k. How could it suddenly be worth almost $70,000 less? It can't. Zillow is calculating on defective formulas, using bad data and is unreliable and dishonest in reporting past valuation and valuation trends.
I have listed a rental on Zillow in the past 10 years without any problems, but in the last 6 months or so, they have declined to not post because my rental no longer fits into their formula... I guess - who knows!. BUT they are quick to add you to their affiliate sites which you have no choice in and those sites are worthless! I do not know what changed, but I for one am disgusted. I have gone round and round to try and figure them out... And on top of all they do not even have the courtesy to e-mail me with the problem to offer a suggestion and on and on. I did not find out that my rental wasn't posted until I sought out the listing because I wasn't getting any responses to the same listing I've used successfully in the past.AND they have no place in their settings or account management to delete the relationship. I am so sick of them - I do not want this or the other rental listings I have on their site to show at all!
They have dropped the price zestimate on my house by $100,000 in the last 7 months. So it is now only two grand over what I paid for it, 10 years ago... Even though my neighborhood has exploded the last few years, new development all around me, literally. You can't even get a "lot" in my neighborhood, for more than 60grand of their zestimate. And my next door neighbors house, who has exactly the same house, is listed as having 2 more bedrooms and 2.5 more bathrooms? I had contacted them about multiple listings of my property and to remove interior photos from 4yrs ago. They sent me some bs form letter about their algorithms. The worst!
I looked up our home information on Zillow, and the home info is wrong, the house is undervalued by about 125k. We live in a subdivision in a rural area, so many of the homes are a little cheaper, but we built a custom home, with granite counter tops, ceilings, walk out basement, cherry cabinets, etc., and they have valued our home at 258k, The cost per scare footage to build is more than that. Whoever does these Zestimates, needs to have some common sense.
