Fairly seamless, although would appreciate more instruction on process. After completion, I could not enter the IRS account to pay my tax bill, resorted to old-school mail... then 2 days later, saw that I now have access...
When I first used this service, it worked seamlessly. The second time through, it failed miserably. The server was either too slow or non-responsive. And there is no way to contact a real person by phone or chat. All you can do is file a trouble ticket and sulk. They need to dedicate more resources on web servers and real people to support customers from all over the country.

I relocated to the UK 3 years ago and found that the websites of many US entities are not designed for citizens living abroad as they do not accept foreign addresses, postal codes or telephone numbers. I had worked-around the problem by keeping my US email & mobile number active for second-factor authorization and depend on the postal service to communicate.
The Social Security Administration website recommended using ID.me for authorization. It was simple to set up with a very professional agent who resolved an issue with my browser not allowing their in-app window to access my camera.
I wish that all of the US financial, governmental & commercial websites that I use would sign up with ID.me! Once the simple set-up is completed it is seamless to use.

Verifying myself is never fun - I know I'm me. I thought gaining access to government sites like the IRS would be a hassle and take forever. Not the case at all! ID.me made me feel like a person, rather than feeling as if i were going through an interrogation. The person on the video call was quick and to the point, and professional but still personable - even at 9:30 at night. A very good experience, especially since I was expecting the worst. Definitely changed my perspective.

The experience w/ signing in using my credentials from Apple, was very helpful, as most of us do not want more steps to go through to just sign up to a website. The ease of having this as an option, is outstanding. Thank you.

It took more than one try to get needed documents, some time waiting, and circumventing other things but totally worthy as allowed me to access easily to a needed government portal with sets of solutions and services. Excellent tool.

Such an easy process, just follow the instructions and you're good to go. I set mine up within 7 minutes it tells you everything you have to do. Tip: take a picture front and back of your drivers license or state ID ahead of time. I keep mine stored in my photos. Also close out all your apps. Easy, easy process.

The photo of the ID had to be taken twice because the first time it was on a light brown table and there was not enough contrast. This slowed the process by over 30 minutes. Thankfully an employee discovered that they needed to use a black background.

This makes processes much smoother and I am grateful. Back in the day we would have to go downtown and get in line for most government service matters, while now with this id.me tool we can save time, stress less and be happy.

Through their thorough vetting of my identity, they provided me with the ability to engage in sensitive transactions conveniently online, that would normally require an in person visit to a Federal agency with two forms of valid identification.

ID.ME is a must have app if you're looking for a secure way to verify identity. Your data is encrypted and kept secure. The verification process is extensive but easy to do and only has to be done once. ID.ME is trusted by Federal and State government for access to various departments such as SSA, IRS, VA, and more online. Invaluable in today's information society. I highly recommend ID.ME and guarantee anyone is going to love it!

I use ID.me everywhere that I can. It makes signing into gov and state sites extremely easy and seamless. Verifying your identity quickly with those kind of sites quickly is very useful. I feel like it helps relieve some of the stress that you might feel trying to get things like healthcare records from the VA or a new social nonexistent.

From first contact ( extremely cold weather) my sales rep was knowledgeable, polite, not pushy, and respectful of my wants and needs. (Mike Hopkins) Did NOT ask where my husband was to negotiate the deal! So nice! I'll trade with him anytime!

Had to use it for a government agency and while I felt uncomfortable because it required key documents with personal information after checking, reviewing and trying to find how scam-able it might be, it seemed authentic and ultimately was impressed at how thorough, and security oriented it turned out to be. Just be ready, if you were glasses to take them off and possible encounter frustration going through, be patient. Once through access was instantaneous and that was great.

The process isn't perfect but it works. Our government either has a good internal team or they outsourced to a company that knew what they were doing.
Either way, a great success automating our critical government functions and ultimately reducing our taxes through efficiency.
The online effort to support the Corporate Transparency Act is yet another example of you can interact efficiently with the US Government.
As a former IT Director I know good project planning and execution when I see it.

ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
Identity touches all sectors of the economy. But revealing the information that identifies us can be risky. At ID.me, we’ve changed this paradigm.
It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
Today, we’re building a digital identity network where users verify their identity once, and never have to re-verify their identity again across any organization where ID.me is accepted. It’s just like the driver's license in the physical world. Once you’re verified, proof of your identity goes with you everywhere.
