When we start a new company or concept, 99designs is the only place we go for design work. We can put our concept out to hundreds of designers at once and whittle down to what we like. Many of these designers have incredibly original and inventive designs. We like being able to "tweak" designs as we narrow down, and always are more than satisfied with the end results. The timeframe is perfect for us - giving us time to make a decision while not feeling the process becomes "stale". And, customer support with 99designs, in my opinion, is TOP-NOTCH. Contacting me when needed but not pushing anything. If I have questions, I get answers quickly and professionally. Highly recommend!
My designer level has dropped, but my graphic design skills are still strong, and my communication has improved, which makes clients happy with my designs, I already have many art school certifications. I have been a talented designer for 12 years. However there are still empty slots on the project browser, and they have stopped working on limited to 15 contests. 99designs is not a good platform for them.
I thought developing my company's logo was going to be fun but I made the mistake of using 99designs. The experience was disjointed and the process seemed rushed and cookie cutter. I did not end up using any of the designs but fortunately I found a great local designer. We met for coffee, discussed my vision, and had meaningful a interaction which (a few weeks down the road) led to a design I am very happy with. And it was FUN.
Save your money and use a private designer. Do not use 99designs
99 Designs from beginning to end was so professional. Their communication is better than most businesses. When I called the company they would call me back immediately.
I bought their logo service. Great price! All the designers were so professional! The designer who won CUBE is an incredibly creative artist. I received rave reviews from everyone I showed it to. If I need anything else done I would honestly just go back to this company.
My designer account was suspended and I received a template e-mail which didn't specify the concrete reason for suspension. Even tried talking to their support but I got only a copy-pasted answer.
An entry I worked hard for and got great feedback from the client was deleted without any notification.
I have not received any answer from them regarding this issue.
I do not recommend this website at all.
Edit: The only design in my portfolio was chosen as a winner by the client, which invalidates quality as a reason for suspension.
Hi Istvan,
Thank you for the feedback and we're so sorry if your designer account got suspended. I was able to check your account and it looks like our team has temporarily suspended it for quality.
I understand how disappointing it is to see your account placed on hold. We certainly did not mean to demean you in any way, shape or form. Hopefully, you can see by our email correspondence that this is not a permanent hold. We only ask that you submit a portfolio because your current entries do not appear to represent our minimum quality standards.
99designs is a professional marketplace, and we are dedicated to cultivating a community of designers who are consistently creating unique, well crafted designs. To this end, each designer account is reviewed personally by a 99designs staff member. In order to remain objective, we do not judge quality on things like education, certifications, or even contest ratings but rather on the actual quality of the entries themselves. We use these basic, universal graphic design principles as our forms of measurement: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204862935-What-are-99designs-quality-standards-
During this period of absence, we encourage you to work on your designs skills. Your suspension is *not* permanent, please make note of this. You will be able to re-apply once we open the application period, so you have a chance to reinstate your account.
Best of luck - we hope to see you in the next application period. Feel free to contact our support team with any further questions: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

The absolute best part about 99 designs is the ability to have multiple talented artists doing their absolute best work to win the contest. This means you get several different creative logos sent to you from across the world. Changes can be made directly with artist while the contest is running. I chose the Bronze package for my car wash logo and I am 100% satisfied with the logo that was created!
Hi Keith,
Thank you for your feedback!
It's awesome to hear that your design contest went as well as you hoped and it was our pleasure to be able to help you find a logo design that you love - with the help of our talented designers on the site.:)
We thank you for trusting in our service and we look forward to working with you again!

99 Designs delivered! I got the logo I was hoping for for my Look Mom, No Leash! Dog training business, thanks to great designers entering my contest; and the customer service was stellar when I needed help.
Everything positive I had read about this company, and the process itself, was exactly as written and frankly I was not expecting that to be so. It's no wonder they are such a successful company.
Hi Kevin,
We sincerely appreciate your feedback! It was our pleasure to be able to help you find a custom design that you truly love and we're happy to always be of help with any of your concerns. Thank you for trusting in the platform and we hope to see you again on the site soon!:)
Wishing you all the best!

Sadly, I had worked several days on a specific design and on the last day just before I chose the winner, I noticed that they eliminated the design, suspended the designer due to the fact that the designer broke the company's rules of conduct and was suspended. I did not receive any notice or explanation until I called to find out what had happened. In the end I'm just the customer wanting a product and could care less about their internal affairs. I wasted 5 days on looking at designs that were not really an option according to the company and it took them days to figure that out without proper notification.
I got a really top notch, excellent design, among many very good entries. I have tried cheaper design services in the past but got no good designs. I am disturbed to read the bad reviews from designers, as I do not wish to use a service that does not treat its designers well. As a customer, I was very happy with the results. I found some of the instructions confusing, as to timing, which is why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. I would use 99designs again.

We started our project using another platform - it was a bad experience due to the design quality being very poor. We came back to 99designs (which we'd used years ago) and ended up having so many good designs, we struggled to choose a winner. We'd definitely start a design project with 99designs again and not bother going elsewhere. And we're glad we paid for the top-level designers - it really showed in the work quality!
Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for the feedback! Glad to have you back in the platform and we're always happy to help you with your custom design needs. :) We look forward to your next project and should you need our assistance, our Customer Support Team is eager to help you in anyway we can.

Fortunately, I found 99designs. Their process is simple. The designers who responded to my project were quick to react. The final selection was really a hard one because I liked all the designs. I highly recommend using 99designs. Great job and keep it up!

I made the unfortunate mistake of guaranteeing my design and despite telling 99designs how much I was displeased, they never offered me more than "more promotion" of the contest. I wasted $500 and am not even going to use the logo. The customer service was ok; but the designs were totally awful. Very very disappointed and I would not recommend them to anyone I know. I'm in business over 10 years and in the photography industry.
Hi Brian,
We are sorry to hear you have not had the best experience thus far. Our support Team would be happy to take a closer look into your account to see if we can turn things around. As a designer, first it was cool but then turned ugly, at some point you'll feel like the contest holder is your master and you're the slave LOL, i mean too many designers for 1 project and hundred of designs, you could spend hours on your concept and design then the contest holder can simply eliminate it quickly without a single word, or you can spend a lot of time on a concept then he suddenly come and change the whole idea, what a waste of time and designs! Conclusion: if you're a beginner or poor designer it could be useful for you otherwise forget it and try to find clients for you own.
This company has it down pat in terms of process. From start to finish the process is easy and smooth and the submissions we received during our contest (at the lower level) were professional and just phenomenal in terms of the artistic quality and creativity. Honestly, my expectations were surpassed in terms of what I was expecting when I decided to engage in this process. I would recommend 99Designs to anyone who is serious about finding the perfect graphic product at a fair price without stressing themselves out!
Hi Laura,
Thank you for such a thoughtful feedback!
So happy that you find the design process to be easy to work with and glad that we were able to help you with your design needs! With the pool of talented designers on the site, you were able to choose from a number of great designs and eventually, found your perfect match!:)
Thank you for trusting us and we hope to help you again with your future design needs.

At first we had some trouble getting approval, but now we're approved as a mid-level designer and we're looking forward to entering some design contests! This site is great for clients who want to get several high quality designs submitted for a project. We look forward to working with 99designs now and into the future. Chris
Tip for consumers:
For designers: you might have to work with support for approval
For clients: This site is a great way to get several designs submitted for your project

So I began my foray into 99 Designs. What a load of BS. I had a hand drawn horse and rider stolen - could PROVE it was mine with a layered. Pds and the "powers that be" determined it was acceptable for someone to take my horse and rider and use it in their own design?
That, my good people, is the reason you don't have better offerings on contests. Those of us who do our own work are tired of those who don't stealing and getting away with it.
99 Designs... MAJOR FAIL!
I read a lot of reviews before trying 99designs, but was still not confident that I would get a good t-shirt design. The reality was that things worked just as they were supposed to and I ended up with six design finalists that were awesome. The biggest problem was having to pick just one!
I had a great experience with 99designs! I chose the cheapest logo package, so didn't get a ton of submissions, but expected that. However, there were 2 that were great, and the one I ended up choosing, I'm super happy with. I felt like the user experience was easy, especially all the prompts for the creative brief. I am looking into working with my designer on another project.
99designs model is brilliant. Next time I am going out to eat I am going to ask each chef at the restaurant to provide me with their specialty dish, sample everything and only pay for the one I like! Pure genius! Why would anyone ever expect to be paid for the work they do? People should only be paid if they are best of the hundreds competing for my business!
Although I only purchased the bronze package, I expected to work with better designers. Every design was so simple, I could have just done them myself. Even with extensive feedback, the most the designers did was add extra lines here or there or change the color and font. I though it would get better in the final round but it was more of the same. Extremely disappointed. It was not worth the $300 investment.
I joined 99designs, last weekend. I did a few logo designs here and there for a couple of days, then bam, out came the ban hammer. This solidifies that they are a scam and how would you know. My work was awful? I've been designing for 5 years now and did a lot of work for clients. Most of them are happy with my designs. In the end, stay away from this bull$#*! of a site.

The reason for the three month period is that we want to make sure designers really take the time to improve in the principles of typography, visual hierarchy, composition and color, as well as technical skills. We have to remain consistent with all designers in our procedure for portfolio review. As such, our staff will not review a portfolio until three months past the date of your account-hold.
If you feel these designs did not represent your potential, we encourage you to submit your portfolio in three months.
-Rosalie from 99designs
Without a doubt, if you are seriously looking for a logo, or branding images, the designs submitted were creative, beautifully executed and thoughtful with international understanding and recognition. The process was clear and simple, with several excellent, competing designs to select from.
I worked hard for two days on two design competitions achieving 2 and 3 stars, which was the highest that any of the designs were awarded. The guidelines on the site were to be original, not use stock imagery etc, which I worked hard to adhere to, only to find myself surrounded by designs ripped off of the web wholesale, hardly any original thinking. Then on the second day I was 'suspended for ever' as the quality of my work was not up to standard. To be honest I think that I was submitting too many ideas, whatever the reason I think that designers and clients are being royally ripped off, don't touch them, it's a waste of time and/or money.

It's a bull$#*! company with inner connections, just trying to make $$, this is no freelance company they hire their own!
AND if you do win a contest they do NOT pay! Stay clear
STOP replying to people's reviews and trying to defend yourself 99designs you $#*!s!
Dont you dare reply to my new review you $#*! heads or there will be war
Hi there,
Sorry to hear you did not have the best experience. We do not actually hire designers—it is free to sign up and our community consists of several hundred thousand designers from all over the world.
We do always pay the winning designer the prize amount, except in rare cases in which it breaches our copyright rules where we would have to allow the customer the option of choosing another design to legally protect them. You can read more about these rules here: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204761075-What-are-the-rules-for-participating-on-99designs-
Once a designer has won a contest and the design transfer is complete, they are paid in credits, which they can exchange for cash by making a payout request to the payment provider of their choice: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204108719-How-and-when-do-I-get-paid-
Our support team is happy to look into your account to see why you have not yet received payment for a won contest, if you could let us know your username.

A friend told me about 99designs when I inquired about her book cover. I decided to check them out as a possible source for my own cover. It was easy. Fill out the brief and wait for designs to come in. There is no payment until you commit to choosing. 99designs were respectful and accommodating when I asked for time extensions. The designers were patient and respectful. In the end, there were 4 designers I could have gone with but the commitment and willingness to continue working with me when it comes to print time was what stood out. I've already recommended 99designs to our writers group. One is already receiving her designs and is thrilled. It's refreshing to work with a company that is upfront with no hidden agenda. Excellent!

Design you will receive are often copied, use stock icons and stock fonts. Any proactive requests to try and work with 99 designs to get the outcomes you want will be dismissed in the name of efficiency.
Tip for consumers:
Work with a designer individually. The concept of this site should be good but the incentives make it not so.
