When we start a new company or concept, 99designs is the only place we go for design work. We can put our concept out to hundreds of designers at once and whittle down to what we like. Many of these designers have incredibly original and inventive designs. We like being able to "tweak" designs as we narrow down, and always are more than satisfied with the end results. The timeframe is perfect for us - giving us time to make a decision while not feeling the process becomes "stale". And, customer support with 99designs, in my opinion, is TOP-NOTCH. Contacting me when needed but not pushing anything. If I have questions, I get answers quickly and professionally. Highly recommend!
My designer level has dropped, but my graphic design skills are still strong, and my communication has improved, which makes clients happy with my designs, I already have many art school certifications. I have been a talented designer for 12 years. However there are still empty slots on the project browser, and they have stopped working on limited to 15 contests. 99designs is not a good platform for them.
I entered 4 contests this week and got rated 5 out 5 stars by the clients for 2 of my designs, a potensial winner in these contests and then I got an e-mail that say "You've been suspended forever". Thanks for the bad experience.
The ammount of people that entered my competition was far less then they predicted I would get. They predicted 60 designers, but in reality I only received 9. Only 2, possibly 3 of these designers were of a professional standard. I ended up with a logo I will not use. My advice,... Go and get a personal desinger you can sit next to and work on the design together. Which is what I'm about to do right now. I'm just $380 poorer... And who wants to be poorer?
The site is full of lawlessness.
I am a designer and participated in the contest. Only my work had 5 stars my work was chosen the winner. But...
After a while, a letter comes that my work was chosen erroneously. What is it like?
About the restrictions in the competition. I know that I still have contests in reserve before the limit is reached - but I am informed that the limit has been exhausted. And I can only participate in 6 days! Why create rules that themselves violate?
Once they withdrew my work from the competition, they said that my work is a copy of the work of a previously successful contest. The only thing that was similar in these works is the color of the logo. Photo and design are completely different. Communication with support led to nothing.
These are not isolated cases, there are many such cases. I have described only a few of them.

I had a great experience with 99designs and I loved running a contest because I received so many designs I would have never thought of. My contest was very successful and I'm very happy with my designer. I even continued to work with the same designer afterwards by doing the 1 on 1 project. I would highly recommend 99designs.
As the owner of an apparel screen print shop, I've seen numerous clients use 99 designs. On average the client's files are crap, they come to use with jpgs, pngs or psd files, often time low-mid resolution. Numerous clients have come to us with a t-shirt design that isn't even designed for screen printing.
Beyond that the creative aspect of the majority of designs is not original. We've seen so many designs that look like that appear to be copied off pinterest AND more than one that was a clear violation of intellectual property. It's sad to see some clients come to us thinking they have a great "new" design and we have to tell the client the file is actually stolen good or complete garbage but I guess you get what you pay for. If you want professional design, don't waste your time with the amateurs at 99 designs. Review portfolios and find a quality designer and create a relationship so you can grow together.
As an interior designer with over 20 years of professional experience in the design industry, I would like to commend you on an amazing experience that I just participated in. Fantastic concept! I felt like I was a participant in a live reality show - Battle of the Designers.
We had a great experience with 99designs. I am not at all graphically inclined, but I wrote a detailed brief, was diligent about giving feedback to designers, and we ended up with a design even better than we could have imagined. Designers were efficient, polite, and all in all great to work with. We are extremely happy with our design and with our 99designs website experience.
The team at 99Designs is excellent. Their customer service is top notch and very user-friendly - even in the middle of the night as I was trying to figure out the next steps. From a design standpoint, I was skeptical of using this process - but it was totally amazing. The quality of the designers - top tier. The quality of the design options - amazing. The work product - second to none. I don't think I will go back to traditional single design options again. Having multiple options just open the possibilities. Excellent process and outcome.

I wasnt sure how this would go. I am a face to face hand shake business owner. This was not my norm, however I am so happy I went with 99 Designs. The process was simple and we had fun picking the designs and communicating with the designers. Im already working on another project with some designers and additional work with my prize winner with the 1:1 feature. Keep up the good work 99 designs team. The process here at 99designs cannot be more simple. I am extremely happy with all of the design choices I had to choose from and the quality of work. All the designers were incredibly professional and super helpful!
I had a wonderful experience working with 99designs. I got so many entries and so many new ideas! It was really hard to choose. It was reasonably priced. I had tried working with a designer one on one, and she just wasn't coming up with things for me. I needed the creative advice of professionals. Those of us that are NOT creative don't always know what we want to see so getting new fresh ideas from our brief really works!

I have been a freelancer in 99d for over a year, and overall I would say it is the most professional site of its sort in all aspects.
I do not know how the experience is for a customer, but judging from its interface and options (brief, examples, engaged designers, etc.) I would say that it is similar with a designer's experience, which is a very high quality service.
Also: good quality-control, good designer (/customer?) support, and some awesome designers!
There have been times that made me frustrated, but if you have a realistic view of yourself, design, and the business vibes its all good in the end.
We used 99d for 2 back-to-back logo redesigns. After the 1st was so impressive, we immediately started a 2nd contest. We knew we wanted complimentary logos for sister companies and the designer really picked out the elements that were specific to each company. We received many more choices than we expected and found it to be well worth the money spent. We will use the site again.
Of course, one has to do a lot of filtering of less than good designs, but there are consistently excellent designs in the mix and the designers are very responsive to tweaks and other ideas. The process of review is fun and well built.
I got an offer for logo design for $19 with two concepts, after a week i was given two concepts, the two concepts did not include the colors i have mentioned or the logo styles i gave as example. They literally remade someones logo, second round came up and same wrong colors and not even close to the concepts i shared. Its a simple logo for a business no fancy icons just text and yet they made them like its 1980's. Asked for refund told me i am not eligible for it. Such a shady place, the first call they gave me is to upsell services before we begin the project. They are so rude in communication...Dont fall for their low prices
The 99D idea is bright. Many possibilities to promote your self as designer for the whole world. Good opportunities to improve yourself as a designer.
I dont like 2 things:
1. Millions of delineates spamming every contest with generic works.
2. Newcomers filter is missing.

American companies have bought a Dutch logo at 99designs without the awareness of the Dutch designer.
After complaint of copyright infringement, they ignore the designer for months now. Is this legal?
I used 99 designs to initially create a company logo, I had so many designers competing, that it made it difficult to reject the designers - the standard was very high from the competing designers.
I've used 99 designs for further work - business cards, company letterheads etc.
I have also recommended 99 designs to others, who have been happy with their work.

They suspend and ban my account for unclear reason, after years of hard works and win many contest they just close my account forever without any warning or tell my mistake. We must provide valid ID/Passport to create account, so closed account mean i will never join the contest forever because multiple account is not possible. If you plan to freelance just find others sites that fair to your original hard work and not just close your account for "doesn't meet their standard" reason or even no reason at all. Even you won a contest you can be banned because you don't meet their standard. Very unjustified reason when the contest holder is interested in your design and you still banned anyway because your work still under standard for 99design's crew

Great to be able to pick from designs and work with the designers. The process gives time to test out the designs with a survey before selecting a winner which is very helpful. It is well thought through. The results were very professional
They are always quick to respond and very supportive with your questions. I've run a few contest using 99designs and I'm always pleased with the designs submitted. Designers are great to work with and will work until you are fully satisfied with the finished product.

I am opening a new business and obviously can't afford to just throw away $500. That is, unfortunately, what I did when I engaged 99designs to draw/create a logo. I received maybe ten half-baked, sloppy "submissions"-none of which I am using. The money back guarantee is a farce, their small print exceptions include any client "guaranteeing their prize" or "entering the final round." Well, theres no other way to sign up for service on 99designs! If 99designs was a capable and confident service they wouldn't need to operate their guarantee in such a murky, nontransparent manner. Once I tried to get my money back, since I didn't even pick a design or winner amongst the awful TEN submissions I received for roughly 500 dollars; I realized that they had no intention of giving ANYONE's money back.
I have been working for them since the beginning, after the first five years the horror began, they used everything that I made for them against me and locked me in institutions, then they stole all the money that I earned there and now they want to lock me forever. When a designer is vanishing and have not submitted their final files its not because they are lazy is because they are locked somewhere in prison or psychiatric institution. They use everyone, clients, designers, they take the money from both parties, they lock the designers and lock the businesses of the clients
