“DoorDash Delivery: Quick Service with Quirks”

guillermo m.
5/1/24

DoorDash delivery offers the convenience of ordering from a variety of restaurants and cuisines. The plus side is the speed of delivery, with orders often arriving within the estimated timeframe. Additionally, their app interface is user-friendly, making it easy to browse menus and place orders. However, there are drawbacks to consider. The accuracy of orders and food quality upon delivery can be inconsistent, with some orders not meeting expectations. Furthermore, customer service responsiveness can vary, with some inquiries receiving prompt attention while others face delays. Overall, while DoorDash offers convenience, improvements in order accuracy and customer service would enhance the overall experience.

Doordash didn't recognize a valid gift card that I applied to an order. OK, I cancelled the order and received an email confirmation of that confirmation. Doordash did not cancel the order with the local company and charged my card. I cancelled for that reason within 1 minute of placing the order and they only refunded me for 75% of the charge and put the balance on credit. I called and reminded them I have used doordash 2 times in the last 5 years and will never use them again...no desire to engage from their side so I will call this out to my bank as FRAUD, which it truly is. Bogus for doordash to rely on draconian "fix the glitch" methods to make money. Wish I could give them zero stars.

Sadly, there's no 0 star rating. I've had 3 orders with DoorDash just never show up, one of which was due to an $#*! driver named Daniel O. Who threw my food away because I asked if he was at the restaurant.

During my latest transaction with DoorDash, I had an $#*! driver named Daniel O. Throw my meal away because he got mad when I asked him if he was still at the restaurant I'd ordered from after I'd been waiting for over an hour and a half. For reference, the restaurant I ordered from is about a 7 minute drive from where I live, so curiosity as to the timing was reasonable.

Here is a transcript of our interaction:

Me: "Are you still at the restaurant?"
Daniel O.: "Whose this"

Now I'm thinking, "Oh maybe I somehow got the wrong number, as I don't think a DoorDash driver would respond this way", so rather than giving out personal information, I simply said that I was a doordash customer.

Me: "A doordash customer"
Daniel O.: "Uhh ok? U got a name?"

Now I'm thinking, "Wow, what an $#*!. All I wanted to know is if the driver was at the restaurant or not."

Me: "Uhh it's Chris. You got a name, wise $#*!?"
Daniel O.: "Ur the one being a smart $#*! and can't say ur name"
Daniel O.: "Say good by to ur jack in the crack"

Sounds like Danny Boy was having a rough day. And it was my fault, apparently. Or maybe the fact that I asked if he was at the restaurant was insane. That's for sure the last time I order with DoorDash.

When I emailed them and explained what happened during this order, here's what their reply said:

"Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about the terrible experience you got from the dasher. We truly believe on customer love and we know this didn't happend on this delivery."

Which translates to: "We know you got $#*!ty service and we don't give a $#*!"

No apology, no incentive to return as a customer via coupon or comped meal, just a blaring disregard for customer satisfaction and common decency.

Thanks for nothing, DoorDash.

You should definitely order with DoorDash if you hate yourself and like paying for things that don't show up.

Tip for consumers:
You'd be better off lighting yourself on fire.

Lyft drivers never have this problem because their job requires them to actually do their job. With DoorDash, I don't know if it's stupidity, laziness, or malicious intent, but 50% of the time the drivers are lost, and I think some of them are genuinely pretending. I live in a small, gated community, so 1), there's a huge sign in the front and the address I give leads directly to the building, which is why no lyft driver has ever had a problem finding it. However, some of these DoorDash drivers take it upon themselves to be as frustrating as possible, driving halfway into the small community and refusing to go further, claiming they are lost though there's a road still in front of them that would lead them to the building then begging me to come outside to get the delivery, blatantly ignoring my phone instructions to just go a certain direction, towards a certain street. This specific scenario has happened several times. Today I ordered breakfast from about 7:30 am and the estimated time was 21 min yet I didn't get the food until 9 am. She circled around the outside of community several times and after I clarified where the building was, I saw that she was there and she refused to go any further until I told her I would not come to pick it up. And on top of that, I was in contact with customer service, and then I called the dasher and it wasn't even a whole two minutes since the last time I had replied to the agent and she closed the chat. What the actual hell? I am never usually this upset over DoorDash, I usually brush it off but this is a pattern and it honestly HAS to be done on purpose. Some may use language barrier as an excuse, but most lift drivers in my area seem to be Hispanic or Haitian immigrants and they've NEVER had an issue finding wherever I was. I'm black and an immigrant myself so it's not racism. DoorDash drivers are blatantly lazy and malicious and they shouldn't make us tip BEFORE service just to constantly have this kind of behavior from the dashers. However I'll give it 2 stars instead of one for the 50% of drivers that actually do their job.

If I could, I would give doordash a negative star review.

Both times now that we've tried to refund our order, we were told we are acting suspicious and then ended the chat 2x.

Let me say this, Rahul, we spent over $2,000 this year with doordash as we had major company events and parties.
I have refunded my own personal order ONE time in the last year and that was because they actually delivered an entirely different order. Just like this time.

We have spent spent thousands with this company and then are told we are being suspicious and to wait 3-5 days for a call.

Well I waited, nobody contacted me.
I then reach out to support and instead of them trying to help, they kept instantly shutting the chat down.

I would re-open the chat and then as soon as a new person came in, they took the chat down again.

I finally talked with someone and they started to help us, once we told them it was for wingstop, they instantly shut the chat down with no explanation on why I'm being "suspicious" or why they can't refund me?

I had photos of the wrong order, proof that they dropped off the wrong order with my RING camera and yet they still want to tell me I'm lying and being suspicious?

Not only that, I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars this year for their services and refunded all but one damn order and this is how I get treated?

An absolutely horrible company with no care for their customers.

Even though UBER is more expensive, I will NEVER USE DOORDASH AGAIN and have told everyone of my 122,000 followers on YouTube as well.

You guys $#*!ed up.

Imagine, all for $37 and you can't refund a loyal customer that's spent thousands.

I have used this app for years. Last night at 7:12pm i placed an order for $16.75 and 1 millisecond after hitting the "confirm order" button, the app had NOT even confirmed the order, it was still processing, i immediately hit the cancel button that was available at the bottom. It was still $7.12pm. Cancellation still didn't go through and it showed "waiting for restaurant to confirm order". I immediately went to Help and canceled again (clearly they make cancellation very hard) and it was STILL $7:12pm. I got an email instantly confirming it was cancelled which also was timed "7:12pm". I had requested refund to cc, not as credit. They did not send email about the amount of refund, then i checked again and saw they kept $10. When i called, i got a rep who said my order was only canceled at 7:39pm when their own email showed it was canceled 7:12pm. She claimed couldn't process any refunds (which they did do in the past), and that some financial team would get back to me and i would get a call from a supervisor. That was yet another way to make you forget about your money. None of the above happened. I had to call yet again. I was told they "couldn't process additional refund" without any explanation. I told them they are already in trouble with the authorities because of thousands of reports showing their app automatically charges higher fees if you have an iPhone (google it). Looks like this is not enough for them. I am disputing this with my CC as FRAUD and submitting a formal report to the CA dept of Consumer Affairs and let them handle it. Wouldn't hurt to consult with an attorney either for blatant theft.

I have canceled my account with DoorDash. THEY ARE A WOTHLESS COMPANY. For the past 5 deliveries I have provided specific instruction on "NOT GOING TO THE FRONT DOOR, DO NOT RING THE FOOR BELL, LEAVEIT IN FRONTOF THE GARAGE, I HAVE DGOS THEY WILL BARK" Not a single one listened, when I called DoorDash and spoke with Ingrid and EMs (both customer services specialist) they both told me basically "Tuff $#*!" they did not have a manger to speak with (both provided different excuses) as to why a manager was not available). And both were very rude in the process. I asked for their employee ID (since they obviously lie about the name) and they both said they were not allowed to tell me. HOORIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND $#*!TY PEOPLE WORKIGN FOR DOORDASH. DO NOT USE! POSTMATES, GRUBHUB, FROGGER anything is better then this joke of a service

They are now in Canada and I recently received a flyer in the mail with an add for DoorDash and saw some commercials on TV so I thought I give them a try. I installed the app on my phone and it took some getting used to as I was used to another food app that is much more user friendly. The first time I tried to order was a bust. I was ready to place the order and it didn't go through as the restaurant was closed but the app had not warned me. The second order was also a bust because I had ordered something that was not available at the particular restaurant where the "dasher" was headed so I was forced to cancel the order because there is no way to communicate with them or to modify orders and it said that the store manager would substitute with the "best fit". The restaurants do not give you an option to make comments on the app like "no ice in drink" like I always do. The second order arrived COLD and was gross. It took me some time to sort out how to get to actually "chat" with customer service about this and had to wait a looooong time to talk to someone. I got a ridiculous small refund for 2 whole meals plus some extras that were all spoiled. Who likes to eat cold sweet potato fries, onion rings, burgers, etc.? I WAS ANGRY but because I had a credit I ordered again. And again,... we received cold, gross food and again,... I only got a partial refund for a ridiculous small amount after spending a LOT of time and effort. I am still emailing with them and get the most ridiculously stupid auto generated emails from them saying that because of my ACCOUNT HISTORY THEY CAN'T GIVE ME A CREDIT. Because I had a credit on my account I ordered again last night and low and behold..., we had a gross meal... - the burgers were under cooked (raw) and we had to throw them out. They were the kind of burgers that you buy in grocery store anyway. What reputable restaurant serves that kind of burgers? I rated the order BAD but don't expect anything from this DoorDash and have learned that I am wasting my time complaining.

We ordered a small pepperoni pizza, a brownie and a 2 liter root beer. The driver got here and informed us that he did not have a soda listed on his order and therefore he would not give us a soda. I then pulled up the order on my phone to prove to him that we ordered and was charged for a two liter root beer. He said that he could not do anything about that and he needed to collect $17.19 for the order. He said that we would have to talk to door dash to refund the order. (That in itself was suspicious because we were paying with cash) I then told him that we ordered through Papa John's. ( Which in honesty I had no idea Papa John's had enlisted Door Dash's service) But once I told him that he again said he had nothing to do with it and I would have to call Murphy for a refund. (I had no idea who Murphy was and again we're paying cash). The driver then rudely states that he is cold and doesn't have time to deal with us and suggests that we give him $15 for the order. Okay so, the 2 liter was $2.99 and the total was $17.19. We never received the freaking 2 liter and we ended up paying towards an item we never received. Due to his rudeness, lack of customer service and not showing the least bit of understanding of the situation, I eventually had to walk off from the conversation and my 17 yo daughter went to get the adjusted amount when she returned to give the adjusted amount she had to almost chase the driver for the change from a $20 (as she puts it she had to pay the $15 because he was walking off). I understand it was cold and snowing but all I wanted to do was find where the error was and rectify the situation but he was extremely out of line. I don't know who dropped the ball on this one but I will be posting this review across any platform that I see fit. I use doordash and papa John's frequently and this experience has definitely left a sour taste. Not to mention it's not the first lackluster experience I've had with doordash. I'm starting to think this is the norm and doordash will hire anyone that's willing to drive for them. If I could give zero stars I would.

This company has been rude and misleading! Within the last 24 hours I have had 5 representatives disconnect my online chat without even a word to say they were disconnecting. This is the equivalent of having someone hang up the phone on you while your filing a complaint.

The issue is the dash pass. Let me start by saying that the last time I ordered through doordash, I added a second card for payment of THAT order. The app auto-selected that I wanted this card for my dash pass. I intentionally changed that, indicating that I did NOT want to use this card for dash pass. I didn't get much use out of doordash and wasn't sure if I wanted to continue. On the 23rd, the original card on file was processed and declined. Two days after my original card on file was declined, doordash used the second card to process it. Even after I indicated that I did NOT want it used for dash pass. Why give me the choice if you're going to process it anyway?!

It is implied that I have a choice in the matter when I was given the option to indicate that I didn't want it used for dash pass. However, they gave me no choice when they ran the second card. If I hadn't big given the choice in the first place, which made me believe it wouldn't be used, I would have removed the second card immediately. Why not email stating the card was declined and you'll be running the second card? Then I would remember that I forgot to cancel the account and either cancel or update the card! They want to trap you into their service! I now have a $34 nsf fee for the $9.99 dash pass charge. Why would I want to pay a total of $43.99 for one month of doordash?!

AWFUL SERVICE & HORRIBLE COMPANY! Every representative has been rude, even the supervisor I called in and spoke with today. She said she couldn't do anything to help, so I asked her to escalate it to her supervisor- she said she would. When I asked when I'd get a call, she said, "To be honest, I can't escalate this issue so you won't get a call back." I was shocked and disgusted! She just said she'd escalate it! That means she lied by saying that to me and was just trying to get me off the phone. If I'm not getting a call because you can't escalate it, how are you escalating it?! DISGUSTING!

DoorDash is a SCAM! I've used DoorDash several times and the past two times have been HORRIBLE. One time the food was late by about 10 minutes, which was frustrating, but I get that things happen. My order yesterday was the final straw! I ordered from ChopHouse, which is very close to my office. The estimated time when I was ordering showed 16-18 minutes estimated delivery time. So I went ahead and placed my order... including the tip ahead of time because that's how they are set up, which is RIDICULOUS. When I paid and my order was confirmed, now my order wasn't going to be delivered for 45 minutes (2:27pm). Again, frustrating, but I had an appointment I had to leave for at 2:45 and didn't have time to deal with it. 2:27pm comes and goes. At 2:37pm I texted the driver asking for an update. No response. I go in and try to cancel the order, but I can't because it's out for delivery. I leave at my scheduled 2:45pm time and get a text finally from the driver at 2:49pm that he left it at the front door. I call my co-worker that was still there and asked her if someone delivered anything or rang the doorbell that we have a HUGE sign that says to ring and she said no. She goes on a scavenger hunt and finds it finally. The food (turkey burger and fries) were ice cold. And I had ordered a milkshake, which is now just a warm glass of milk. Obviously since it had all been out driving around with the driver for over 30 minutes and sitting outside for however long. I contact DoorDash and they say that they will only refund me for 50% of the transaction. WHAT?!?! I didn't get my food at all and it was WAY past the delivery time without any communication. They are sticking to their guns of only refunding me 50% of what I paid - that included a tip and fee on top of the food ($26). That is A LOT of money to be thrown away, literally. Plus that stupid driver still gets his tip! And my refund won't come for 5-10 business days. DoorDash is a scam! DO NOT USE THEM! Unless you want to go on a starvation diet and throw money away.

I wish I could assign zero stars. I ordered from a WingStop in the Copperfield area of Houston, and for the first time, I wanted delivery, not pick up. I won't be doing that again for any restaurant that uses DoorDash.
First, the food was excellent (although crushed). The reason it was crushed is that the DoorDash delivery driver placed my food bag directly in front of my storm door that opens OUT. In doing so, I was not able to get my food without pushing the door open, which in turn crushed my bag of food.
I contacted the restaurant, and spoke with someone there, and they said it was a DoorDash issue, because they delivered the food. I thought, yeah that does make sense. So I contacted DoorDash through their online customer service chat. After giving my information, they told me that since I ordered through the WingStop app, and not through DoorDash, it was not their problem. They told me to contact WingStop. You know, the company that got my food order 100% correct. I asked for a supervisor, and was told they couldn't do that. I got off the chat and called the corporate customer service. Got a message saying that because of the COVID-19 virus issue, they weren't taking calls from customers.
So I went with attempt #3, and decided to email them. I even told them that I wasn't looking for a refund for my meal. I just wanted them to know that they had someone working for them that was this careless. Guess what they told me in their response? Not their issue. Yep, same thing.
I am going to tell my friends and family to help spread the word about DoorDash, and a couple of my friends own or manage restaurants. I'll send them the contact info for GrubHub and Uber Eats.
Don't do business with a company that doesn't care about you, and doesn't care what their employees do.

I placed an order from a restaurant that's about 10 minutes away from me at 9:14 a.m. My app told me it would arrive in 41 minutes. At the 35 minute mark, the app's timer all of a sudden went up to 159 minutes. I immediately reached out to DoorDash to figure out if they could contact the dasher to see if this was just an error in the app. The support person just kept giving me scripted text that wasn't relevant to what I had written. When I called him out on it, he finally stopped. He confirmed that there weren't enough driver's in my area to support the orders they were getting so even though my driver had already picked up my food, he was being sent to other restaurants to pick up orders and because of the location of my house to the last restaurant, my food would be last to be delivered. The delivery eta was now 12:18pm. Remember that I ordered breakfast at 9:14 a.m. I advised that as I had ordered breakfast and I would not be here at lunch time to meet the driver because the app did not advise it would take 3 hours. At this time, the support rep (Haggai) advised that to provide the best service I've ever had, he'd be giving me a $5 credit. I of course advised if the food wasn't coming until after I've left he'd need to refund the full order because I wouldn't be here and I'd be paying for him to not deliver food. He eventually agreed to refund the full order but said he'd make sure my food would get to me before I left. About 10 minutes later I had a credit of $10.99 (Not my full order price) and the dasher completed my order without actually delivering it. When I wrote back AGAIN, I chatted with Erika who advised that the dasher could not complete my order as they had refunded me. So in short, it's now 11 am. I have no food. At least I haven't been charged for the food. But... I spent 2 hours dealing with absolute nonsense and talking to useless support staff who kept insisting they were giving me the best door dash experience they've given anyone ever. And hey! If I'm ever feeling masochistic enough to try door dash again, I'd have a $10.99 credit waiting for me! Woo-hoo (Not.) All done. Back to Uber Eats I go.

The 1st experience for my wife's business was Awful.
Just plain awful.
They promised to "help out a new business with the system every step of the way" & DID NOT.
THEN, reps DID NOTHING but make excuses & request the business itself to "fix it".
How is THAT "taking care of it all"?!

Menu & prices COMPLETELY INACCURATE to the business prices...& they try to charge a 20% "fee"... EVEN WHEN NOT USING THE SYSTEM.

Doordash is a 3rd Party Business Leech.

Been dealing with this nonsense since "covid" when 3rd party delivery businesses tried to FORCE THEMSELVES on my wife's café business WITHOUT our consent.

Apallingly RUDE!

UPDATE: October 11th 2023

I guess DOORDASH has "revamped the system" & no longer uses totally remote access...& has better coverage for businesses.
Since these 3rd Party Delivery Services (do not have my trust, firstly) have decided to "strong-arm" businesses into using them & DOORDASH has the "lowest disapproval rating by customers" compared to others; my wife has been economically FORCED into a corner to have to use them.

The rep (Heri) has shown us the difference between scammers & lazy business entities using the company name compared to ACTUAL DoorDash services; my wife has decided a 2nd chance is in order (bless her fortitude...I woulda said "screw off").

We shall see. This corporate rep that physically visited (AFTER it went to legal measures) actually came to set things right.
It's from 1 Star to a 2 Star...at the moment.
We shall see

Tip for consumers:
This is a 2nd chance for DOORDASH with my wife's business.
Time will tell & updates will follow.
We shall see

I ordered my food only to
Have it dropped off at the wrong place. When I tried to contact the person who dropped it off, they told me there was nothing they could do. So I called doordash and the person didn't speak English so that I could understand it. They then in broken English told me
They would resend my meal and reassured me that it would be at the right place this time. Well, after waiting 30 minutes they once again delivered to the wrong address. So once again I called and they tried to deliver it a third time but I just opted for a refund. I then decided to give them a second chance a few days later… my dasher called me twice and when I picked up
I could barely understand ANYTHING. I could make out barely that he was asking me
If I had any questions. I did not, because he was the one who called me! Well, when he got to the place he texted me the following-
"There is something wrong whit your Oder."
-"why?"
"They are out of bread."
-"ok, give me a second and I will find something else to replace it with."
"Probably you need cancel this order or call soport doordash. Ok, bye."

I then called support, whom I
Couldn't understand. So I asked for their boss. After being on hold for about 10 minutes, I still couldn't understand them. So I asked to
Him transfer me to his boss
Well, then a woman picked up
Who sounded very annoyed that I interrupted her Netflix show.
From there, I told her my complaints and kindly as I could and she told me that
" she can't help
It if the restaurant is out of bread."
I told her that, that wasn't what was bothering me but the lack of professionalism displayed.
She then told me
"That she wasn't sure what part wasn't professional, because she can see the text he sent and it was professional to her.
‍‍‍.
So I
Told her to have a nice day because she clearly wasn't going to help me…
I then ordered grubhub and got my
Meal with in the small amount of
Time that I wrote this review and had no problems….

I would give these people zero stars, were that an option.

My order was supposed to cost $70.20. After I authorized the order, that number inexplicably increased to $71.12. When it arrived, it was missing one entree. I returned to their website to seek remedy. What I wanted was for someone to deliver the missing portion of the order immediately. They did not make this option available. I settled for the "give a credit for the missing portion" option, since it was literally the only option they made available. (They did have a link for "ask for a different remedy" - but when I clicked it, it simply spun forever without opening, while my family's lunch grew cold.)

In clicking this link, I believed I was requesting that they credit my *credit card*. However, after I clicked the link (and *only* after I clicked the link), the page indicated that it was giving me $14.34 of credit on future Door Dash orders. I feel this is a deeply unfair business practice: I should not have to spend more money at Door Dash to be refunded for an order that their organization screwed up.

I then received an electronic receipt indicating that they had only refunded me $12.22; not $14.34. Furthermore, the receipt indicated that they had credited that to my card. A quick check with my bank revealed I have been charged the full $71.12, with no refund. I wonder if even the incorrect $12.22 credit actually exists for future orders? I very strongly doubt it, given that the receipt falsely claims to have already paid it to my card.

My dissatisfaction with this company only increased as I attempted to file my complaint. The two contact phone numbers for Door Dash (one of which I could only find on WikiHow) offered only a recording indicating that they would not speak with customers by phone, and that I should use the chat feature on the website or the app. There is no chat feature on the website, nor the app.

So, I searched and searched on the website until I found a buried customer service form. I filled out that form, checked the "captcha" box -- and discovered that what looked like a "submit" button at the bottom of the form was actually just a *picture* of a button, and could not be clicked. The form was a sham.

So, I returned to WikiHow to find an email address. I attempted to contact them by this method. When I sent the email, I received an automated reply -- telling me to use the same customer service form with the fake "submit" button.

It should not be this difficult (indeed, literally impossible) to contact a company, particularly given the massive surcharges they append to orders -- surcharges should which fund, in part, a system to handle the inevitable order screw-ups that will happen with a delivery service. No one expects them to get the orders right every time. But their customers should be able to reasonably expect better access to a solution when things go wrong.
