On the 1st of December I ordered a yard of fabric to make a top that I wanted to wear during New Years and I immediately went to Fabric.com. They are always my first choice. They had a beautiful red and orange snakeskin fabric that went perfectly with my shoes so I ordered it along with a zipper. I got a confirmation from them and Paypal saying the funds went through and on the 3rd the tracking info was done. I kept up with tracking and I noticed after the 7th... NOTHING! I waited a few more days and on the 12th I sent an email asking if I could get information. They go on to tell me the fabric was sold out and they weren't getting anymore and I was honestly so upset. They led me to think it was on its way and the only way I know it isn't coming is because I reached out to them. They would've never told me and since I let them know I was upset and it was unprofessional I got no response. They are now completely ignoring me and I have nothing to wear AND no refund. The website also sent me an email asking me to 'review an item I purchased' and they denied my review because I said they never sent anything even though they took my money. I am done with them!
They take your money and later tell you it is out of stock and refund you your money back. Do not waste you our time review before purchasing.
Completely unethical business, save yourself time and money and stay away! They illegally charged me!
They told me that I had to work out getting my order with usps. They sent it to KY and I live in UT. So ridiculous.
I was looking through the fabric list and found a few that I liked but after reading the reviews... no thanks!
I really want to purchase fabric, but after reading review after review about their business practices and product, I'm looking elsewhere.
After reading many of the negative reviews, I was very hesitant to order from here. But the truth be told is that there aren't very many good fabric stores online (and I scoured online for awhile), and I suppose that might've been because of larger online stores like Fabric.com running smaller boutiques out of business? Anyways, I digress.
I went ahead and placed an order when a 25% off coupon came up, just because they had some fabric I really really liked, and I honestly could not find any comparable fabrics online in terms of price and design. Not to mention that I find Fabric.com's website is much more manageable to navigate compared to other fabric shops sites.
It did take awhile, but I wasn't in a rush to receive it - I usually don't pay for rush orders and try to order things ahead of time. Everything came as expected, the fabric was folded up neatly in plastic bags shipped within a box, and the colors and designs were accurate to what I saw in the pictures on their website.
So overall, I had a pretty pleasant experience, though I want to note that I am just a small-time hobbyist (I was just buying draperies fabric, enough for two windows) and I don't need to order large amounts of fabric and rely on the orders for business purposes. I also have not had to deal with their customer support system seeing as nothing was wrong with my order.
I would probably go back to them for any of my future fabric project needs though only with a coupon or sale price and if they had a fabric I absolutely adored.
It may be cheaper to go to a local fabric store, but I really enjoy the convenience of getting a wide variety of fabric that can be delivered to your door.
Three out of 7 times that I have made purchases from fabric.com, I have ordered fabric that was in stock only to receive an email a few days later (not the next day) stating that the fabric that I ordered was out of stock. If this is the case (which it seems to be quite frequently), you have 24 hours from receipt of the email to make changes to your order. This is a major bummer for a number of reasons.
First, if you still want the fabric on backorder, but don't get the email in time, this means that you will be refunded, but have to purchase it again but have to pay for additional shipping costs. Second, the fabric in your order that is in stock is still shipped to you. That means that you may get some of your fabric, but may possibly be unable to work on your project until all of the fabric is received, some of which will either be on back order or you may have to order another color (which can often times change your whole project).
This is incredibly frustrating. Additionally, processing is VERY SLOW. I'm talking, snails pace slow. From purchase to shipping (or email indicating out of stock), you can typically expect a minimum of 4 business days. So, unless you order on a Monday, this probably means that you should include 2 weekend days for processing. They have poor. Processing. Management. It's incredible.
Apart from how slow they are, the major takeaway is that you can order items that are listed as in stock and find out days later that they were not really in stock after all! Apparently, this is typical for this business. If they would fix this, I could overlook the delays in shipping.
I continue to order from them because they have good fabric options and I don't know of another place online to order. Any suggestions, anybody? As far as I see it, if someone wants to start up online fabric sales, the market is ripe and ready for a better run business.
MY BANK HAS JUST BEEN IN TOUCH WITH ME FABRIC.COM TRIED TO USE MY CREDIT CARD AT 05-36 TODAY, I WAS STILL IN BED THEN. BE CAREFUL, THEY HAD MY CARD NUMBER WITHOUT MY AUTHOUROTY
Absolutely terrible at keeping their shipment dates and LIE when they promise to get your order to you.
I placed a huge order and expected to have it on a certain date. When that date came around and my order hadn't arrived, I called to find out that one item (thread) was back ordered so Fabric.com KEPT MY ENTIRE ORDER on hold. When I called and found this out, I demanded my order (minus the back ordered thread) be shipped and was promised two day shipping (it would be in my hands in two days). On the day I was supposed to have my order, I received a "shipped" notice, my order was shipped on the day I was supposed to have it. My project was pushed back a week and a half (10 days) due to holding back my ENTIRE order and FALSE PROMISES of 2-3 day shipping.
I will never trust Fabric.com again for any of my fabric orders. I am sure the products are great, but I can get the same products elsewhere where the entire order won't be held back until I somehow figure out to call and tell them to send it.
Just found out on line that fabric.com is an Amazon company! Such a shame that Amazon is involved in this trashy company!
They sell quality fabric but the prices are a bit high. If you are dissatisfied, they do allow you to return the fabric.
One spam a day, every day with fabric.com. I don'want to know their products, i only know their methods: nothing to do!
Ordered a floral pattern paper for my craft work. Loved its design very much. Arrived within given period of time and was in good shape.
I order from this site quite a bit because of a great selection, decent prices, and free shipping on orders over $35. However their order accuracy and customer service leaves me unimpressed.
I received an order this week. I had ordered 5 yards of a certain home decor drapery fabric. When I unrolled the fabric it was in 4 separate pieces. WHAT? Smallest was 24" and they went up to about 42". How the heck am I supposed to work with this?
Customer service is very hard to get on the phone. They want you to leave a message and they will call you back. I would rather be placed on hold or in a queue so I know at some point I might actually talk to a person.
Unfortunate since this was such a great fabric supplier before they were bought out by Amazon.
Reviewing them yet again. I am on the mailing list, and get emails for specials promotions, sales, etc.
Got an email on 1/10/12 around 8am about a "blowout" sale. Found some fabrics I liked that had good inventory, and place my order by 830am. My Pay Pal payment was processed. They brag about shipping within 48 hours, etc. Today my order goes from "pending" satuts to "on hold" status. So I live chat with customer service. They claim they emailed me this morning because an item is out of stock.
I never received the email. Her excuse for sold out status was they get orders faster than they can update the site, yet the site inventory is automatically updated when you place an order.
I have been screwed by these people before on their "sales" and "deals". I make an effort to only buy stuff that has high inventory to avoid this BS. The CS rep that I chatted with was not helpful at all, and basically ended the chat before it was properly finished and my concerns were addressed. I was not hostile or threatening, just stated the facts.
They are way too big for their internet britches, and really need to work on inventory control and customer service.
I received my order of 12 yards of fabric (worth of $115) 6 months ago but didnt open the box right away, as I am a busy mom of a toddler who has no help during the day. So I opened it a couple of weeks ago when I finally got time to sew my curtains, and I was shocked! I received the fabric not in a solid roll, but in six cuts of different length, and even the longest ones were not enough for the height of my windows! I have no use for this!
I requested a refund, or fabric replacement in one piece.
They got back to me without any apology at first, saying that they ship fabric in one piece unless its more than 8 yards, then they may send it in two pieces. Also, they said they were unable to accept a return because its been more than 30 days.
I emailed back asking to send me replacement fabric or at least punish the person who was responsible for packing, and got no answer.
I contacted Amazon, they said they would reach out to the seller.
The fabric. Coms representative sent me an email after that apologizing, stating they no longer have the fabric (right, you probably sent me the remains of your stock in 6 little pieces) and offering $30 credit in their store. Oh, thank you for your generosity! I spent $115, I will never ever shop at your store again, and you can keep your $30. I feel I became a victim of a bad joke twice, 1st time when some bad person packed the chopped fabric for me, and 2nd when their representative offered me $30 credit in their store. In the end no one got punished.
I called Amazon again, and was told they couldnt do anything else at that point.
My mistake was I didnt open the box and didnt check it right away, because that never never happened in my 15 years experience shopping online in the US. Why would I be suspicious of the order? I assume people fulfill their responsibilities and have human and professional ethics.
Please, dont ever shop with the dirty company, I hope my disappointing experience will save your time and money.
Poor customer service and inaccurate inventory DOES NOT make up for the prices.
This company has gone down the drain since Amazon took them over
Answer: Hawthorne Threads is great.
Answer: Im using them for almost a year but no more... they keep sending me 25 % discount almost every week to gain me back... NO WAY! Yeah i order atleast 2,000 each order... total loss for them... until now they still awe me money for the fleece fabric i order long time ago, when i order it it has 50 yards of it, after 10 days they gonna tell me its out of stock, waited for replacement, until now no replacement... i got a lot of horrible experience with this company,,, dirty fabric that looks like somebody use it to rub on their body... really really sucks!
Answer: My business is making curtains. I have dealt with this company for the past two years and I think the customer service department is doing the best they can with trying to making it look like the company has it together. They do not have it together at all. There is no excuse with the volume of business that they do that they cannot afford a system that can tell you immediately an item is out of stock. I cannot tell you how many times I have purchased fabric from this company only to learn three days later that it is not in stock. Then they hold the rest of your order for another three to four days after you answer an email telling them to continue to ship the rest of the order. I have had fabric arrive to me balled up in a box that they didn't even bother to put in a bag, I have had fabric with shoe prints on it in the middle of the bolt or pieces of fabric missing from a ten yard order that were cut out of the middle of the ten yards. I am trying to eventually not use this company at all anymore as they don't have a clue as to how to treat customers or just don't care. The only problem is they have run all of the mom and pop online fabric stores out of business with lower prices (this was maybe two years ago) and the smaller businesses couldn't keep up with them so they closed. Now that they have the market they have raised their prices because they have very little competition out there. If you leave a good review for this company you are one in a million that have had a pleasurable experience. Just because you bought from them once and don't have a complaint means nothing, consider yourself lucky.
Answer: It's a US website, so they'll take the money in US dollars, but if they take orders from Australia your bank or payment processor will have to convert the currency according to the current exchange rate and I think they may also charge a fee for doing this.
Answer: Thank you so much for your inquiry. Please feel free to send your contact information to edhr@fabric.com, and I would be more than happy to forward it to the appropriate people.
Answer: You would have been better off contacting fabric.com directly. It doesn't look like they even know about this website.
Answer: I would call or email them, including as much detail as you can... order #, what fabrics were ordered and approximately the time of the order. Have never had this happen to me from Fabric.com, have from another online site and was lucky that I got the help I needed. Good Luck.
Answer: As a customer of theirs, almost an ex-customer of theirs at this point, I can honestly say they have made absolutely no changes for the better in my case. They have paid absolutely no attention to any of my issues with them, which is why I'm about to become a former customer.
Fabric.com has a rating of 2 stars from 380 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Fabric.com most frequently mention customer service, business days and credit card. Fabric.com ranks 113th among Fabric sites.
