“Fiverr gave me a refund when the seller was crooked”

Arthur H.
1/1/24

This review began as a 1 star, and I changed it to a 5 star. There is a deficiency in the Fiverr software that made me have to rewrite my complaint every time the seller responded. I thought that the seller had figured out the perfect system to make sure the review never reached Support. However, it did reach support, and support resolved the issue within a few hours after I made the complaint.

“Mike Oliver Pakistan”

New Y.
10/28/24

I hired Mike Oliver from Pakistan on 9/14 with the agreement the work would be done in 10 days. He tricked me into pre-paying by telling me he would be my personal designer so I paid him and he has never done the work. He is a scam artist do not hire him. Fiverr has no actual customer service available, only AI. I have sent countless emails that have gone largely unanswered.

Several months ago I was looking for a memorial tattoo design - and chose someone on Fiverr based on reviews - I'll NEVER trust reviews again. I sent her a couple of artwork designs I found online to help her with what I wanted - very clearly stating they were ONLY to help her get an idea and that I wanted an original design. At first, she said her schedule was full, but then told me she could squeeze me in as a favor. I paid the $50 and eagerly awaited (I don't remember if I paid a deposit).
Well, days later I received the design. Imagine my disappointment when it was the designs I sent her, copied and pasted, and sloppily jammed together. The only difference was that the colors were changed based on my preferences. I Hate confrontations, and so I put off telling her my disappointment. I also did not realize I had a limited time to accept/decline, so the transaction was put thru as purchased. That was on me. I did message her and explain that altho the transaction went thru - I was not happy with the design - calling it for what it was: a copy and paste and basically the theft of someone else's artwork (and hard work). I also messaged Fiverr telling them what happened - and never got a reply at all. I had to just write it off. The photo is what she submitted as her original design - both elements - the swan and the phoenix - can easily be found online and are what I submitted to her to help her with the design.
I would not recommend Fiverr - be prepared for zero customer service and some lazy "artists". But, honestly, the price alone should have been a red flag for me. I now know that authentic artists do charge more. So, keep an eye on the prices.

Tip for consumers:
Be prepared for zero customer service, and other are people who are not artists/designers who simply copy and paste

I have been ordering gigs on Fiverr for almost a year, it is a hit and miss on quality etc, there is NO quality control on this site, I am a developer and I see multiple illegal gigs every time I visit, I went back and forth asking for a refund off a seller in the required time frame where they were saying nothing and submitting resolved messages, the whole time thinking Fiverr would step in, no way, I had to make a formal request for someone to act as a third party and get my refund, even then it took 2 weeks - the resolution center is back to the seller - not to fiverr. - these guys may end up being the next Kim Dot Com regarding the illegal activity that is openly being allowed on the site where the FEDs step in.

Sellers, what they do to stop you submitting poor reviews will either bribe you with "extras" --- "crap extras that may look appealing" or screw you over, most sellers bribe you BUT... I have also had a couple of gigs where I gave an "Honest" review (3-4 stars) and since it was not 5 stars they changed all of their reviews (the gigs were for reviews) to 1 star and screwed us over

Don't get me wrong, there ARE some great gigs on Fiverr from some "Honest" people, but there is a large-larger presence of "SMOKE IN MIRRORS" 1 star gigs that have 5 stars.

Hi,

I want to share quick story and ask for help. Please tell me what to do in this abnormal situation and sh*t fiverr customer support.

I had a customer who asked for an AR app. I delivered the app and he forgot about the order. The order as marked as complete, the money was cleared. He realised his mistake and wanted to open an other order for 5$ just to have something going.

I delivered the project, and he told me its not working, i was trying to fix the bug for weeks, and after he realised that his phone is not compatible with AR, he could not install ARCore because it was restricted in his country. So i was chasing a ghost for weeks in vain. I have sent him a link where to download the ARCore apk to install it.

After 1 month of the first order, which was already crealered and the money was mine, he requested a refund and he got it. I wrote to customer support, which is a pile of sh*t, explaining the situation and could not resolve anything.

Again, he asked for an AR app, i delivered it, he realised his phone is not compatible, and he could ask for a refund. What the hell is this? This is not normal at all, the product is still sellable and working how he wanted, only he doesnt have the necessary hardware for it.

What to do in this situation? Thank you.

This company is a $#*! scam hole. If you are a buyer or seller for many years they BAN you for no reason and take your money and do not pay you out.

AVOID AS BUYER
Bunch of Scam Hole Indians trying to make quick $ for $#*! service
Most use black hat SEO tactics and services that are know to ban you on Google such as AI writing, spam links and other useless $#*!. Either that or you are paying people to LEARN because they do not know what they are doing.

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON EXISTENT
The customer service is a joke. You contact them and they simply repeat your question back to you like the infant child they are. They do not help you even if you been on the platform for several years. You get "randomly flagged" for safety but it is all a ploy to collect your data to keep ripping you off and exploit you.

AVOID AS SELLER
Too many people too weed out that are either looking for cheap Indian labour for $5 for 5 hours of work or looking scam you by getting you to do work for free.

Company run by scumbags to exploit free labour

First, I'd like to start out by saying that I have used Fiverr for a long time. It has given freelancers around the world a platform to find customers quickly. I love the idea behind Fiverr, I like its platform, and sometimes even the customer support.

Recently, I started selling through Fiverr's "Logo Maker" feature which is in the beta. However, after receiving two warnings in quite a quick succession, my account was temporarily disabled while they perform an account review. Both of the warnings were for essentially "pliagiarism". Here's the thing, we have professional designers, who have worked with some of the biggest companies around the world. Not only do we create original work, we check our work for copies via reverse image searches before uploading anything for sale to Fiverr.

Each time we received a warning from Fiverr, we were not given any additional information on what other design exists that is similar or the same. As a designer, you can easily come up with a similar or sometimes even nearly identical design as someone else. As a great designer, you'll have your logo stolen and sold by other designers. There are many different scenarios. However, without knowing what the other design is, it's impossible to tell.

After reviewing our account, Fiverr disabled it permanently citing us as having violated their terms of service.

We are a professional team of designers with a combined experience of 100 years in design. It is possible that someone stole our work and had posted it somewhere and it could've been explained or resolved quickly by letting us know where the work appears.

Additionally, the design was flagged by their automated system. The two warnings were automatic. The system could have made an error as well. Maybe at least 1 of the warnings was not accurate, and thus, our account would have not been closed permanently.

At a time where we relied on income from Fiverr to get us through this rough time we are all going through, we found very little compassion or even effort to try to resolve anything.

We'd love for Fiverr to take a few minutes to discuss how to reenable our account. We want to continue to bring value to the platform and its customers.

I've had an account for a while that has allowed me to make an extra income as a seller. Unfortunately, I ran into a scammer buyer. After providing agreed upon service, of which they highly approved, I was shocked months later when I received a notice that a refund was to me given for the jobs following a cancellation of the order. Turns out this very common and the seller ends up losing. So I followed up with their customer support. BIG MISTAKE! This people are not only unhelpful, not interested in your problem, but also have a hint of malice in them. Should you send a query and follow up on it, they'll take action - just not the one you expect. They'll find any excuse to find you in violation of their precious "ToS" and close down your account. Yet they had no problem with your services earlier. Awesome! Just like magic. Should you find any review complementing their CS please ignore it. It has been probably written by one of their clearly incompetent CS members. All they ever send are pre-written messages that are general and not specific. Should you push with an issue you run the risk of being shut out of fiverr. For those still on the platform, should you ever run into a problem, find an alternate way of addressing it. Else you'll have your hard earned cash locked with your account - very unfortunate. Sellers receive no protection on the platform. You are supposed to tolerate abusive clients, take orders that no longer interest you among a host of other annoying buyer habits that CS should help you solve.
Secondly, they take a huge chunk of you earnings. 20% of each coin made belongs to the platform. This is abit too much. Buyers too complain when you charge highly to compensate for the fees amount as they too pay high fees as the amount increases.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket on this one.

Tip for consumers:
Buyer and seller beware - plenty of scammers here and no protection offerd. Customer support is no help either. Be prepared to bee bullied by buyers and customer support as well.

I consulted a seller about a publishing project. The seller is level 2 with 800 five-star reviews. So I was confident he would be professionally competent. In the course of describing and negotiating the project, he asked me to send the documents. At that point, he dropped communication. This was after he'd been replying within an hour normally.

So, I waited a few days to follow up. No reply. I asked to confirm that he was receiving my messages. No reply. After five days, I contacted customer service. They were friendly and did reply, but when I explained the matter, there was nothing substantially done. Finally, after a week elapsed, there was still no resolution by any party.

It's very hard for me to understand how a top-ranked seller could behave with such careless disregard and why Fiverr customer service would not swiftly act to settle the matter and to validate the customer's legitimate concerns.

It's reprehensible to ask to review documents sent by a buyer/client and then to show no respect or care for the client/buyer or materials sent. And why wouldn't he seller simply get back to me and say, "Sorry this job isn't right for me" if he didn't want to work on it? Why leave a client hanging? Why create unnecessary confusion? And this is a seller without a single negative review? The interaction raises many doubts.

Though there are no doubt some good sellers on Fiverr and buyers who have good experiences, this interaction (my first on the site) has been a big red flag.

Update: Customer service did get back to finally, once again. I cannot fault them for trying. But they never received an answer as to what happened. I offer this review in case it's helpful to people who are considering fiverr as a buying platform.

Fivver is one of those site where you have to take small steps in using a seller. After using fivver a few times, I relized that $ 5.00 gigs was the bare minimum service for most sellers. The more you want done the more it's going to cost. Yes, there are some sammer on there, but you have to order with caution. When working eith a fivver seller, know what you want. Be able to communicate that in great detail with seller. If you don't give detail of your project the seller want know what your project needs are. Communication is the #1 key factor in using fivver. When a seller doesn't deliver on time or communicate with you, cancel the order and try someone else. It's nothing lost, because fivver will refund your account. You then take your refund and try another seller.
Over the past couple of years since I've been using the service, I have had some good 5 star service and serveal canceled orders. But overall, I have found fivver to be a great business tool for those who work on a small to no budget. With anything shop with caution. Some of the thing I've had done:
1. Business phone line greetings
2. Facebook advertisement
3. Flyers
4. Logos
5. Fundraiser Donation letter
6. Product mockup
7. Product package design
And more

I'm going to post more reviews for this site based on the products I buy. Since everyone here is an independent contractor or freelancer like me, I don't think it would be fair for me to judge based on one or two bad services.

This particular review is based on the logo design. To be fair, I did not purchase any of their so-called "vetted" sellers that they call PRO sellers. These are apparently professionals they hired from all over the world. They charge in the thousands. I don't trust their vetting process and didn't want to spend that much money to discover yet more stolen or mediocre work because of all the bad experiences.

I have spent as high as $150. When I paid the lowest price of $5, I received clip art - okay, that's fair, I get what I paid for - right? No, not exactly, it was downloaded probably from Google. I could have done that myself without paying anyone $6 (there is a $1 processing fee tacked on) and waiting two days. That seller had no legal right to sell me something he does not own. This happened to me 3 times for logos I bought from low as $5 to high as $25.

When I spent the higher price based on really good description on their gig page, it was the same result. It wasn't stolen stuff they gave me but the work was awful, communication was even worse. The only time they seem to send me messages was when they wanted more money. If I pay them, they disappear until they deliver at the last minute.

The products I received were below average all across the board from everyone I bought from. They only care about getting 5 star reviews and getting as much money from you as possible.

If you end up getting a decent logo - google search it because its likely stolen from another designer. If you use a logo that belongs to someone else, it's you who will get sued not the person you hired on Fiverr.

Tip for consumers:
1. Communication is good up until you pay, then they ignore you.
2. Product in this category is horrible. If you pay $5, you may get your money's worth, if it's not stolen.
3. The commercial use license is useless. You get no legal documentation saying you own it. Some sellers try to sell you this even though they stole the design from the website.

Verified purchase

I bought two different services from this site. I paid someone $15 to come up with titles for my story I was working on. I gave them the summary of my story and its themes and told them I was looking for something poetic. They took a few days to complete which I thought meant they were working hard on it. I soon got a list of title ideas. Half of them were titles for books that are already published and don't even make sense for my book. My book was about mothers and daughters and I get a title suggestion that says, "the fastest horse in the race" (not exactly this but the same idea). It's like they just used an online title generator (which I could have done for free). Very disappointed, not sure how they had all good reviews. Next I paid for someone to edit the first part of my book. I wanted them to do a little bit of developmental editing and editing and critique. Well, they returned the word document and their own comments and suggestions were filled with typos! This really bugged me. They wrote down all of their opinions on my story and it had poor grammar/spelling. I thought maybe they were in a hurry. But then I went to edit over my book and I find that it still has some issues. So what did I pay them for? You also cannot go back and edit your reviews. I then wanted to hire a book cover designer. I found a seller and asked if they done any kind of sketch before payment and if they could verify their work isn't copyrighted. Well the only response I got was about their pricing, no answers to my questions. I am a digital artist so I understand the work that goes into creating a design. But they wanted $250 for a ebook cover and $450 for a hard copy book cover! Come on now. So instead I drew up my own book cover which I'm very happy with. But really? I feel like I should become a seller on this site because I wouldn't be charging so much and I'd actually provide better services.

At first I thought Fiverr was a great way to earn extra cash, until I started realizing the many frustrations that come from being a freelancer on Fiverr. First, they take 20% of all your proceeds (which is a lot considering the low prices sellers make). I understand that they need to make money but then they take 20% of your hard earned tips! I have received hundreds of dollars of tips and instead of getting to keep 100%, they take credit for sellers going above and beyond! Next, they charge money for you to just withdraw your earnings. If you try to inquire about anything, their customer support is a joke and they never adequately resolve any issue you bring to them. Second, if you are on vacation (and in some cases do not even have internet access), sellers can still contact you if they are past clients and if you don't respond then your response time gets lowered and buyers are less likely to choose your services. Third, and most frustrating, Fiverr can delete your gigs for absolutely no reason without even discussing it with you first. I had a gig up for 1 whole year, received a fair amount of work and a large amount of money from it (which also means Fiverr received a good amount of money as well), had all 5 star reviews, and Fiverr removed the gig without any warning and just said it was a violation. There are 150 other gigs just like mine but somehow they aren't violations. There is no trust with Fiverr and I don't believe they have seller's interests at heart. They favor the buyer over the seller and treat their sellers like garbage. They don't try to keep their sellers happy and I guarantee they have lost a lot of good sellers because of it. I am a level two seller with all 5 star review who generates a good amount of revenue for Fiverr and they are going to lose my business because I'm absolutely fed up.

I had over 800 gigs purchased I had a designer that would work above and beyond what I would ever expect wonderful human. I'm an event planner we have constantly events and invitations and things that need to be done one day I gave him 12 jobs at once BOOM he completed them QUICK! I ended the Giggs the designer sent me the work I sent a review we thought everything was okay. A few days later I get an email from customer service stating that they're going to close my account and his to. WHAT! Not only that they closed my account but they snatched all the money I paid the designer away from him and kept it now that's shady! When I inbox them and ask them what the problem was they refuse to answer so I responded back again with the stronger message then they blocked me REALLY. Their customer service sucks WHEN you question them they will block you. The part that sucks even more I spent two years Gathering all of the people I was working with when they deleted my account I had no access to all the work I had already paid for I had no access to my vendors that I was working with if you do choose to work with these people make sure you keep your contacts because when they delete you lose all your information. What they do to these Freelancers is completely They are scamming their own employees. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Every time I've ordered off this site the orders have not been delivered on time or the work has been completely sub-standard. Their customer service is 100% incapable of handling any complaints. As a result, I find it to be, by far, the worst online platform for people seeking freelancers.
Shortly after opening an account with Fiverr, I was harassed by one of their members, listed on their account as in Australia (but claimed not to be) who, by making highly inappropriate, provocative and deliberately offensive remarks, seemed to want to highlight that he/she was better than me. I am sure that many of you are forced to deal, from time to time, with this chronic disease called 'tall poppy syndrome'. He or she starting making assertions to the point that, in his/her ill-founded mind, I was misleading people to think that I was the CEO of a large company in Sydney when that is not the case. As if all of the medium and small businesses, that form the largest portion of the Australian corporate marketplace, don't matter. No mention was ever made to the size of my company or to the location of the business itself. I correctly listed myself as the director of my own business in QLD.
My first action involved reporting the abusive messages to Fiverr via the appropriate 'abuse button' on their website but the button didn't stop the flow of messages. A message was sent to their "customer service" but it took 3 days for them to respond to it. I was so bored with this idiot that I made him/her waste his/her time with one of my students, who took the time to respond to him so that he could practise his English. The final messages sent by this mentally-challenged individual to my student mentioned something to the effect that a) if I was a CEO I would not be wasting my time with him/her and b) my grammar would need to be revised.
